The author totally nailed the young adult feel and her dialogue was written to perfection. As for the storyline, it’s captivating and unique and I think the love that Milo develops for Mercy is truly special landing this book on my favorite of the year list!

"She’s a living Rorschach test. The inkblot. What people see when they look at her tells more about them than it does to define what she is.”

Milo Vega is fantastically written I mean I have to remind myself that he only lives inside the pages of this story. This hero feels so darn real and I adored his fall for Mercy the new foster girl who moves in with this son of a gangster/super senior’s foster family.

If you are looking for a well written book that has a bit of extraordinary this is the book and Milo and Mercy are the couple! P.S. to my surprise this book is not a standalone as the conclusion is to come.

KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

GHOSTGIRL: is a full length contemporary romance novel by ‘J.B. Salsbury’ In this we meet Emilio aka Milo and Mercy.

I wonder if many like me went into this thinking it was a paranormal read? No one?? All righty then!! So it was a bit of a surprise realising that it in fact wasn’t a paranormal read.

Every box was ticked!!
The cover, luv it, it's unique and stands out!!
the synopsis, sounds amazing
the reviews, hooked me in further.

I've only read one other by this author before which I really enjoyed and this book was just as good if not better!!

Mercy is a bit of an enigma, we don’t really know much about her, her names not her own it was given to her by caseworkers, and as far as we know she has no family, even her age is unknown, she was found barely alive in the desert, a girl who fell out of thin air. But as you progress further into the book small facts pop up about Mercy, things that made for a gripping, suspenseful read.

She's been placed in the same safe foster home as Milo. When these two meet Milo is shocked by how white she is, not only is her hair bright white but her skin is whiter than he's ever seen before.
If she were in the sun, she'd practically glow like some kind of mystical fairy. She barely leaves her room.

It's not until she's enrolled Washington High, the same school as Milo that you see these two becoming closer, she's drawn to him, at first it was because of his Virgin Mary tattoo on his throat but then it became so much more. She's more mature than any of the girls at their school and they have such a unique connection, he tries to help her fit in, to have a normal teenage life.
He wonders how he ever lived life without her.

I didn't notice before, but she really is pretty-different, but still gorgeous once you get past her ghostly colouring.

Milo was born into a notorious gang 'The Latino Saints', and at the age of fifteen he became a LS soldier, gang affiliations cover most of his body, no greater loyalty existed in his world than that of the Saints, but that all changed, and now at the age of twenty he's trying to disassociate himself from that life and is striving to make a better life for him and his brothers, when he's of age he wants to get legal custody of them, get a good paying job and an apartment. I'm twenty years old, with the responsibilities of a forty year old man with two kids.

But that all changes in the blink of an eye.

This is where we're all wanting to jump onto the next book to see how things unfold because Milo sold his life to the devil to save an angel and now he's out seeking revenge. If your'e after something a little bit different then look no further than this book.

“An extraordinary girl who longs to be ordinary.”

From the moment I saw the cover to Ghostgirl I knew this was one story I had to read and pronto. This artistic cover is positively breathtaking, and I know you should never judge a book by its cover, but I couldn’t help it with this one. It called out to me to be read and I loved it. I haven’t read a J.B. Salsbury story for such a long time, and to be honest, I have no idea why. This woman can seriously write with a prose that seems so effortless and this story was unlike anything I have ever read. I relished in the fact it was so unique and unexpected.

Mercy is unlike any character I have read to date. She is a complete mystery and nobody knows anything about her or where she comes from. She is the epitome of a ghost, with her hair and skin whiter than the whitest of snow. One of the things I loved about Mercy was the fact she was a complete puzzle, it just added to the suspense of what I was to discover and the more I read the more I wanted to know.

Milo has not had an easy life by any stretch of the imagination. He has lived a life ruled by gangs whilst trying to take responsibility for his brothers. Milo has come to a point in his life where he wants grow up, distance himself from the gang world, get a good job and be awarded custody of his brothers. He desires to be a good role model and wants more out of this life for his brothers than gangs and violence can ever provide.

As the story unfolds Milo and Mercy become close and have a profound connection with one another. Mercy is unlike anyone Milo has ever encountered before and discovers there is a lot more to Mercy than just her ghostly pale complexion and hair. He wants to help her fit in and live a normal high school teenager’s life. Everything comes crashing down around Milo when he is faced with the possibility of not seeing Mercy again. He is determined to risk everything to save her.

“I sold my soul to the devil to save an angel.”

Ghostgirl is part one of a two part series and I am itching to get my hands on book 2, Mercy, to discover how Milo and Mercy’s story concludes. If you are wanting to read something so unique and unlike any of the other YA books on the market, then I urge you to check out Ghostgirl because you are sure to become addicted from page one.

Talk about being out of my comfort zone!!! I loved that this was remarkably different with an intense need of wanting to know more. The characters, the setting, the writing, everything was just different and it felt like a breath of cool air on a warm summer night. Ghost girl is a unique YA story that made me fall deeply in love with the power of the unknown.

Milo Vega has been through the ringer in the past few years in his personal life. Going in the system along with his younger brothers into foster care, was no easy feat but they made it. Now three years later and finally being able to graduate high school, Milo can now feel like his head is above water. With a plan in place to adopt his younger siblings after graduation, things cannot be any better for the Vega brothers. But things are about to get complicated when a new foster girl arrives and she’s unlike anything he’s ever seen before.

Mercy is a uniquely extraordinary girl. Being called different and special her entire life, was a blessing and a curse to her. Now in foster care with some memory loss, Mercy is now trying to fit in and be a normal teenager. But that’s going to be extremely difficult based on her looks and her having a problem being around more than person. Little does she know, her temporary family is going to be the best thing that’s ever happened to her. Particularly Milo Vega.

Let me just get this one thing out of the way and say how much I freakin loved Milo!!!!! I feel like I need to write that in all caps or scream it from the rooftops because that man? Was fucking AWESOME! I loved the fact that story was mostly told in his pov so we knew every emotion he was feeling and let me tell you, I was right there with him. My only complaint was that I felt like he wasn’t pushed enough and I wanted to see more of his past life but I think this author is going to give us our wish in book two.

If you’re looking for an extremely different young adult romance, then this one is for you.

Please note: this is part one of a two part series.

"Ghostgirl" is about a heroine that is a albino which i found very different.Don`t think i have ever met a albino character ever since i read the paranormal trilogy about Angels. The heroine Mercy Bernadette was brainwashed into believing that she was an Angel with the destiny of sacrificing herself for the humanity. She is found drugged and unconcious near the Mexican border, but a very nice psychologist decides to adopt her.Her adopted mexian sons Milo,Julian and Miguel gets surprised when they get to know that she is a albino girl, and Milo Vegas calls her Ghostgirl for that but can`t help but be drawn to her shy, vulnerable beauty.

Most of the book is through Milo`s pov,and i found him a very confident, tender, selfless and badass hero.He was a gangster to the core, all the other guys in High-school was wannabes that tried to act like him.I love the slow-burn but oh so intense romance between Milo and Mercy.Salsbury know how to tell a story and she did it so great in this book. The sacrifice Milo did for Mercy in the end broke my heart, because i have no idea how they can live past all this danger after them.I am off to the sequel now!Oh i also got to mention that i swoon everytime Milo calls Mercy romantic endearments in spanish!

Wow! This was really good! I wasn’t expecting it to be a slow burn but it worked so well for this story. The author did an amazing job building up the relationship between the MC’s Milo and Angel it made it more believable. I also liked that this was Milo’s POV which at first I thought I wouldn’t like but he was such a interesting character. There is flashbacks of angels past which I’m not a fan of but without them I know it would of been hard to understand Angel and her past.
Overall this story was sweet and emotional with some intense moments and I’m definitely reading the next book. Hopefully the next one is Angel’s POV or dual. ❤️

“I sold my soul to the devil to save an angel.”

Ghostgirl is our favourite JB Salsbury book to date, no question. We love when an Author takes the plunge into writing something different, writes the story they want to write and takes a chance whilst believing in themselves. When an Author does exactly that, the reader feels their heart and soul threaded into the words.

‘Who knew I’d have such a bleeding heart for the freaky girl.’

This was a highly emotional dark romance with elements of old-school in a new and original style. We absolutely loved Milo and Mercy’s heartbreaking story and found it utterly compelling. Each of them had a journey to make; both coming from tragedy trying to find the light.

‘No matter where I end up, whatever obstacles I face, I will always remember what I am.’

Mercy is an enigma; where has she come from and what hell has she lived through? The snippets from her past had our hearts breaking and fearing for her truth. Mercy is different, a gentle innocent honest soul who’s very being has been destroyed by a power and money hungry evil. Her battles are just beginning and it’ll take someone incredibly special to find the truth, find the angel behind the pain and hurt. If we’re told that we are something often enough, eventually we’ll start believing it ourselves. Masked in deceptive brainwashing; evil thrives.

“Do you know what it’s like to live your whole life being told you’re one thing, only to find out later that…you’re not?”

Milo and his younger brothers are living in foster care. He has a plan, a plan for a better life for his brothers, as far away from the gang he grew up in and his manipulative father. He wants nothing to do with the violent and criminal life which took his Mum away. Sometimes what we want and what we get are two different things.

‘I’m the school’s charity case, the twenty year old senior, the gang member- only got to wipe the floor…’

Milo is intrigued yet dismissive at first when his foster parents bring home a girl who is like no other. She behaves and looks like nothing he’s ever seen or experienced before. Little by little, Mercy wins Milo’s attention and heart, however, this was never going to be a walk in the park when you have one Hispanic tattooed ex gang member and one ‘child like’ ethereal innocent who’s been forcibly removed from ordinary society her whole life.

‘He made me believe in things like hope.’

We completely and utterly devoured this book in one sitting, unable to look away as JB Salsbury wowed us with a story and characters written with such vivid imagery, such depth and incredible honesty, emotion and realism. This is definitely a favourite of 2018! We do wish though that we’d known there was a second book to come as we would’ve waited to read them together in one serious reading binge, however, without spoiling it let’s just say we weren’t left in a crying heap on the floor. Though we have a feeling it’ll break us once more!

‘My kind is desired by many, but when caught, seldom kept alive.’

***3-3,5 "Mi alma!!!" stars for me***

“This is just my life, the regular life of an abnormal girl who tried to be normal.” {Mercy}

God, i feel like an a$$hole now!!! And i don't have the time to explain all the reasons why I'm feeling like this!!!
The truth is that i liked the storyline a lot... It had some intriguing things inside, but at the same time, i was a little bit bored with the pace and the development of the story!!!
Yep, from one hand was a really good story, but from the other hand, it bored me very much!!!

The characters were good, especially Milo, but i'm not sure that i liked Mercy!!!! But i understood her in a way, since i was reading about her past...
The romance between them??? It was lacking connection, i think!!!
But i have to admit that the story was built very good and that at the end of this book, i was hunging like a fool with so many questions that needs to get the answers.
So yes, i will read and the second part in some point, because i have to know!!! Bahahaha...

Sorry that i'm not saying more about the plot, as i'm usually doing, but it's probably for the best for you to just read the blurb, because I might say too much!!! Thank you!

OMG!! I loved this book!! Ghostgirl totally blew me away in a way I wasn't expecting! This story follows an albino girl named Mercy who's just trying to be normal after an entire lifetime of being brainwashed into believing she's an angel with healing powers. Foster home life is a constant reminder that she's not what she thought she was. But, in the harsh reality, she finds Milo....an ex-gangster who's trying to get his life together for his brothers. Their connection is anything but normal...it's unique and innocent and beautiful and powerful. This book is wonderful and I highly recommend it! I'm excited to read book two! You'll fall in love with these characters! Five MERCY AND MILO ARE MAGIC stars!!

Ghostgirl was very refreshing, unique and a book I couldn't get enough of. I loved that the author had me guessing to what was going on throughout the story. I also enjoyed all the plot twists I didn't see coming. This book started out as a YA/NA book, with characters that you don't see a lot of in books. However, the author decided to take a different direction the last quarter, which I loved. JB took her time to really develop the story and the connection between the characters Mercy and Milo. Which was really essential. Especially, Mercy needed all the time to get used to her surrounding, and I loved that the characters gave her enough room to grow. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that this was not a stand-alone, because I need more of Milo and Mercy. This book wouldn't have been enough to tell their story, so I am really happy there will be another book.

❝I may not be an angel, but even ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things when faced with the life and death of those they love.❞

GHOSTGIRL was a unique, beautiful, unforgettable romance from the brilliant mind of J.B. Salsbury ♥.

At first, I went into this thinking it was a paranormal read, but surprise, surprise it was not. Ghostgirl was not just another story, but a tale that was unlike anything I have ever read.

I absolutely loved Milo and Mercy’s tale. They were two souls brought together and destined for more together, so that's why I am itching to get my hands on the next book to discover how Milo and Mercy’s story ends.

I loved every second of this equally emotional and unexpected story. Definitely a story you do not want to miss!

Coming from one of my top 5 go to authors, JB Salsbury delivers in this poignant story of love, family, friendship and forging your own path in the world. Born to inherit a life of crime, can Milo break away from his violent past while trying to build a better life for him and his brothers? And with Mercy being brought into the picture, will bringing this new girl into his family with her own turbulent demons be a blessing.... or a curse?

This story was far different from any JB Salsbury reads I've read thus far. It felt more raw, turbulent and even emotional than the author's other novels, not to mention, the mind gripping background stories and the chemistry between Milo his "Ghostgirl", Mercy's, were unbelievable. Definitely one of those that the sparks are there right away but the friendship and romance is a slowburn which I greatly appreciated. It's NO insta-love at all.

Ghostgirl, was by all means, one of the most unconventional reads and love stories I've come across in a while, and once you start to unravel Mercy's origins, it becomes more and more daunting and yet exciting. Aaah!! The suspense of what's to come will reel readers in and have them pining way for more.

I loved not only seeing the love and friendship aspects of Milo and Mercy but also their coming to grips with their predicaments and seeing them learn and grow from trials and each other. Not to mention, Milo's protectiveness over Mercy!! Aww, it was adorable seeing him trying to save her while trying to in a way redeem himself throughout the story.

Didn't like that popular girl thing though. Ugh. I hate that gimmick of high school stories but heh that's just me. lol

This was my first J.B. Salsbury experience, and I am completely smitten. Honestly, this book was everything I've been looking for, and didn't even know it.

The story starts off with a bang, and the writing pulled me in immediately. No, seriously. I opened the book and then suddenly it was a couple hours later and I was just coming up for breath, already totally in love with every single thing I was reading. I was drawn to both Milo and Mercy's stories and loved them so much in all their furiously flawed glory. I loved how Ms. Salsbury straddled the line between YA and NA and somehow managed to capture all the best parts of each.

Ms. Salsbury is a masterful storyteller and the story she's woven for us here is compelling, fascinating and filled with feels. Like, all the feels. It's powerful and emotional, yet also sometimes light and easy. My heart raced and swooned, and nearly overflowed with the aching tenderness between Milo and Mercy whose chemistry burned so slowly and sweetly that it was impossible for my heart not to wrap itself completely up in them. My mind flit about, frantic to unravel all the mysteries nestled between these pages. It was enthralling, and enchanting, and one of the best things I've read all year.

I don't want to give anything (not anything) away, but suffice to say that I'm positively starving for more of where this came from! In the end, this exciting, stunning, gritty and so exquisitely original story is an absolute must read! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

A unique and heartfelt YA romance with the story of two unique foster kids from very different lives coming together and finding something unexpected. I’m a huge J.B. Salsbury fan and, as I have come to expect, this story is beautifully written, and I was captivated from start to finish by the honest and emotive storytelling. I loved this one.

Milo Vega and his brothers were born into a dangerous life. Their father was the leader of a Mexican gang, and it wasn’t until the disappearance (assumed death) of their mother that they were taken from that life and placed somewhere safe. Milo is now 20 and has aged out of the foster system, but the couple that took him and his brothers in invited him to stay and be a part of their family, so he is settled and working hard to finish his senior year in high school, while working as the school janitor at nights. He is still covered with the gang tattoos that he got as a teenager, but he has no contact with his father and wants nothing to do with the life, and is committed to graduating, getting a job and providing a home for his brothers.

And then Mercy arrives. His new foster sister is different – with a genetic abnormality that makes her look just as unique as she is. She has lived her life as a brainwashed captive and is closed off, inexperienced with pretty much everything, and has strange beliefs about who she is and what she is capable of. But there is something about the mysterious beauty that draws Milo in. Though their backgrounds couldn’t be further apart, Milo and Mercy develop a friendship which gradually becomes something more, and I was captivated as it all played out.

She tilts her head so slightly that I am pulled deeper into her gaze, as though she’s trying to tell me something or maybe trying to pull something out of me, and in doing so, she’s drawing me in. her glare probes deep, and I’m incapable of looking away. Her pale eyes search mine and hold me hostage.
Not until she changes her focus to my neck do I blow out a breath from the freedom of her release. “Holy shit,” I whisper.

I loved Milo! Salsbury has written him perfectly, and I love that the book is written mostly in his POV so we get to explore so much about him. He is strong, smart, funny and brave with a huge heart. He’s matter-of-fact and incredibly self-aware, completely owning his flaws and making no apologies for himself or his life, and he, and his narrative, make this book. Seriously.

Mercy is a mystery whose story unfolds slowly as the story progresses, and her innocence and naivety are wonderfully written. And together they are so beautiful! Milo’s sweet heart and protectiveness is a big part of why I love him so much, and the care he takes with Mercy is gorgeous! However, and I hate to say this, but I did have some issues with their relationship…. But as part of their journey together, it was beautifully written, and it was gorgeous to see the tough guy fall so hard and so completely .

“Be with me.”
“I don’t understand.”
“Be my…”
Girlfriend? Fuck, why is this so awkward? Probably because you’ve never done it before, shitface. “I want you to be mine. Only mine.”

But when danger arrives on their doorstep, everything will change for them. They have a battle ahead. What will they be prepared to risk to save the ones that they love?

This book was unexpected in a lot of ways, and Milo and Mercy’s journey is beautifully written with lots of heart and intensity, with twists and turns and an ending that I was in no way expecting! I was panicking as I read, knowing that there wasn’t enough time left in the book for everything to happen that needed to happen, only to discover that this book is merely part 1 of Milo and Mercy’s story. Honestly, I was initially annoyed because I was expecting this one to be a standalone, but the next book, Saint, will be released later this year, and I’m really excited to see where it all goes from here.

4 stars.

JB Salsbury has once again delivered with an intoxicating, riveting love story.

Ghostgirl begins with an absolute BANG...Milo Vega's life is in a downward spiral. Throughout the years him and his brothers have been put into foster care. They have been put through absolute hell but finally things are starting to look up. Milo has a plan, graduate high school, and adopt his younger siblings. Everything is falling into place, until new girl shows up.

Mercy is unique. Born with an extraordinary gift, which is a blessing and a curse.
She wants to be normal, like the other kids... fit in.... but with her abilities.. its too much to bare.
Until she meets Milo.

Lets just put it on the table now, Ghostgirl was a story based on two lost soles looking for that special someone. When Milo and Mercy meet, sparks instantly flied. They understood one another, their pasts wouldn't overcome their future. What made this story for me was, that they were complete opposites... and that's the best love story out there.

I absolutely love JB Salsbury's writing, and Ghostgirl takes the icing to the freaking CAKE!

Absolutely fucking awesome. Hooked beginning to end. This book is incredibly intoxicating, tender yet gritty, and completely refreshing. The character dynamic keeps you committed, the dialogue (and often lack thereof) is utterly mesmerizing, and through it all, the thing that keeps this story sewn perfectly tight, is realism.

This book was incredibly realistic. From the inner monologue to the dialogue. At no point did I huff and puff or roll my eyes at any overused tropes or purple prose. There is no cloying, sickly sweet YA nonsense here. It’s raw and bold, while still managing to be poignant and warm, tugging at the heart in the best way and melting you into puddle of feels without losing any of its grit.

There’s no point going into details as to what this book is about, the blurb is all the information you need, believe me.

I inhaled this. Easy 5 stars.

I had the pleasure of reading the ARC for Ghostgirl. I couldn't get through the pages fast enough. I've been reading non-stop since it hit my Kindle. Sneak reading at work and staying up late trying to finish because I had to know LOL. Ghostgirl is so different from what I’ve read previously in JB Salsbury books but don't let that deter you. I'm totally IN LOVE with where this is headed. It's going to blow your minds and I can't wait to see everyone fall in love with it too!

Milo is covered in gang affiliated tattoos. A twenty-year-old high school “super” senior and working as the school’s janitor. His life hasn’t always been this way. His father is El Jefe, the boss of the Latino Saints (LS) and his goal was to groom his sons into gangbangers. Milo became a LS soldier at 15, slipped away from the life when his father disappeared the day he ran to Mexico, nine days after his mother disappeared. Abandoning Milo and his two younger brothers they we’re placed in foster care.

Mercy was born with a rare genetic condition. She was held captive and brainwashed into thinking she’s an angel with healing powers. She was picked up by border patrol unconscious and taken to the Los Angeles Psychiatric Health Care Facility.

When Milo and his brothers are told another foster child will be joining their family they have doubts. Changes will have to be made in the house with the younger boys sharing rooms again. The foster parents don’t share whether it’s a boy or a girl and shocked when they first meet her. Milo doesn’t know what to think of the new girl he calls Ghostgirl.

At first, Milo avoids being around Mercy until he gets to know her. Once he does, he starts protecting her especially at school when she’s anywhere near Carrie. The most popular girl at Washington High and the one he’s taking to prom. Carrie feels threatened when he’s close to Mercy and when she sees them together she tries to get in between them.

Milo and Mercy have a connection he can’t explain. He starts to fall her not knowing she feels the same until they have their first kiss. Gahhhhhhh this FIRST kiss…MELT!!!

“I take my time, slowing things to a crawl in order to memorize every dip and curve of her mouth. Her lips are warm and pliant, and if I could curl between them and live there forever, I would.”

“Her cheeks are flushed and her lips swollen and the color of a raspberry, probably from sucking all the blood to the surface. I wonder what other parts of her pale body I could make flush with color.”

Ummm this right here ^^^^ YES! This is just a sample. Bonus - the kiss is long and hot.

As innocent as the first kiss went, it caused further problems. They wanted to be around each other all the time but their foster parent Laura didn’t agree because Mercy is still under 18 and Milo is 20.

Something tragic happens and it flips Milo and Mercy’s world upside down. Things from their past resurface. They have to make decisions and sacrifices that will alter their life forever.

An extraordinary girl who longs to be ordinary.

The tagline on the cover of Ghostgirl is the perfect description. It sums up a book, that is almost impossible to give justice with words in one sentence.

I'm going to do the best I can to explain what this book meant to me, without giving away any spoilers. ;)

Mercy's life as she knows it changes in the blink of an eye when she wakes up in a psychiatric facility. Questions come to fast, and answers she gives make it obvious that she was not raised in a traditional sense. Being led to believe she's something much more than the "ordinary" girl she truly is. Her outward appearance, though beautiful, is different. So when she winds up at a foster home that includes three other fosters whom have problems of their own, her world is flipped upside down and life lessons of the everyday teenager come at her faster than she can sometimes handle. She wants to blend in, wants to belong, but beliefs and teaching ingrained in her from childhood keep knocking at her mental door.

Milo, the eldest of the three boys at the same foster home is son to a notorious Latin American gang leader. The one who should rise up to be the next "king." But when opportunity strikes, and he's able to free his brothers from the chains that bind him to the life, he takes it. Which means it's time to clean up his act and set the example for his younger siblings. That's how Milo Vega ends up a twenty-year-old high school senior, covered in tats, and working as the school janitor. Gotta do what ya gotta do, right?

Ok, so here's the skinny... When you take these two, Milo and Mercy, two souls - VERY unlikely to ever cross paths in reality, what happens is nothing short of divine intervention. This book isn't just a story. It's a journey of learning and healing and breaking down walls that both of them have built. It's incorporating themselves into a world neither ever thought they would live in, and following rules that hadn't applied before. On this journey, Mercy and Milo hit a lot of bumps, but to see these two work through friendship and eventually find love is an experience that will leave your heart pounding and hope rising.

It's beautiful and honest and when put to the test, it withstands the beatings. I hope if you're reading this review, you'll go and grab this book, because I can guarantee, that you'll be getting something you haven't read before, and when you finish, you'll be rooting for this couple and begging for more.

My first JB Salsbury read Fighting for Flight was also my first "dark" love story. In my experience she always delivers twist and turns, and her characters have a certain depth so that you feel them, feel what they are going through. Ghostgirl has this effect and is an entirely unique story. It's a YA "first love" story, but it's built on characters that are unlike any I've read. Mercy and Milo and their plight is heartwarming and their connection sweet and mystical, but there's much that comes between them. Salsbury is a gifted storyteller provider the audience more than just a read, it’s an experience that left me on edge.

As a twenty year old high school senior fighting his working towards gaining custody of his younger brothers, Milo is a bad boy with good intentions. Told mostly from his perspective, we learn about his life as the son of the leader of a gang who Milo suspects killed his mother. But he is devoted to his brothers and staying away from the gang life is a key motivating factor to keep his head down and stay the course. His life is complicated by the attentions of a high school princess, Carrie, intent on a prom date with Milo and possibility of becoming his girlfriend. When the foster family taking care of his brothers brings in a new foster child, Mercy, everything changes. There’s a bit of a mystery as Milo tries to keep Carrie away from his family and himself from the trouble she’s sure to cause.

As Mercy’s story starts to unfold, the story takes on a new tone. We’re left to ponder if Mercy who and what she thinks she is? As an outsider and outcast, her life is complicated by Milo’s interest in her. The more we see the two together, building a friendship inching towards something more, the need to understand her past becomes all consuming. This is a slow-burn love story that takes a turn I didn’t dare imagine. I should have known J.B. Salsbury might throw a curve ball at these two. There’s a bit of a cliffhanger- hinting at a promise of more Milo and Mercy.

This is the story of Milo and Mercy. It is more NA to begin with, which isn't usually something I read, but I absolutely adore everything J.B. Salsbury writes, so I stuck with it and I am really glad I did. I am not going to go into too many details, like I typically do in my reviews, because there is not a whole lot I can say without giving out spoilers.

Milo is in a foster home with his two blood brothers, he is saving his money up so that after graduation he can get custody of them and move out. The bond between he and his brothers is a beautiful thing. He lives with Chris and Laura even though he "aged" out of the system, they allowed him to stay because it was the best things for his brothers.

Mercy ends up with Chris and Laura as well, after she is found dumped outside of the Border of US and Mexico.

Mercy is not your typical female lead character. And I absolutely LOVE that she is not the status quo, she is the exception to every rule.

I laughed and I had a few tears fall during this book. The more Mercy's situation became clearer, the more stabby I felt and I can't wait to see what Mercy reins down on these people in the next book.

Hopefully I have not gave anything away. To sum it up, YES this is a definite one click for sure.

I will possibly edit my review after release day when I don't have to worry about spoilers so much.

I have only read perhaps a handful of J.B. Salsbury’s novels, but I have loved every single one. My personal favourite being SPLIT. I loved the uniqueness of the story, it was like nothing else out there. It was clever and gripping, I did not want to put it down. Ghostgirl had the same effect on me. From the moment I read the blurb, I knew I had to get my hands on this book. Also don’t get me started on that cover!! Whooeee!! That is one stonkingly gorgeous cover!! Again, another reason for me to be desperate to get a hold of it.

We are pretty much thrown right into the story as soon as you open the book, which I am a huge fan of. The book is written in dual point of view, and we jump from past to present occasionally, without it being confusing. The past and present moments were a great touch and very much needed to get an idea of what the characters had gone through, to get where they are now. Although the author doesn’t give too much away when it comes to Milo’s past, we do get an idea. Most importantly the book is focused more on Mercy’s story, so there are plenty of flashbacks of her past.

I really enjoyed Ghostgirl, it wasn’t like anything I had imagined when reading the blurb. I got enthralled with Milo and Mercy and loved the chemistry they created when together. There is a scene in Mercy’s room that gave me goosebumps, because I could really feel the connection these characters had with one another. My heart was racing, and it actually brought tears to my eyes, it was a beautiful scene.

Although I did enjoy the book, there were moments when I was desperate for answers. I understood Mercy’s condition, I knew how inexperienced to life she was, but I felt like I was reading the same thing again and again, without receiving any more information. I won’t lie, I did find myself skim reading a time or two, only to get answers to questions that the characters, and myself, so desperately needed. And when I say I skim-read that’s what I did, I didn’t miss anything out, because it’s all crucial to the story.

Now I didn’t realise when going in, that Ghostgirl is just part one of Milo's and Mercy’s story. So those answers I so desperately wanted, I didn’t actually get! I am going to have to wait for those in the next book.

Now I want to make it clear, I am an impatient person. I want all the facts right away. I am that annoying person who goes searching for spoilers for her favourite shows, but I do NOT share them; just to make that clear. My point is, I am not going to blame this book, just because I’m a brat. Milo’s and Mercy’s story was beautifully panned out, and it made sense for them to be a little hesitant on what secrets they had hidden. So although I wanted them to blurt them out like right away, the build up made this book just that bit more special.

A wonderful read about two broken souls, who need answers from their past, connecting in such a way that even they can’t explain. I very much look forward to the next book to find out more about Milo’s past and what life has to throw at him.

Sooo I stayed up all night finishing this and I have to say, I can’t wait for the next book! I love how Milo loved Mercy, it was so sweet. 4.5 stars

Though as much as I want to rate this a full five stars, I just can’t. There was an ow, who the H had never had sex with but would continue to make out with even after he meets the h, and the H and her were going to go to prom together and planned to have sex that night. The only reason they hadn’t yet and were waiting until prom night was because she was 17 and he was 20, and she would have turned 18 by the time prom came around. After the H kissed the h, he still had his plans to sleep with the ow although he felt sort of bad about it because of the h, but if I’m remembering correctly never kissed the ow again after kissing the h. Eventually, the H breaks the plans off and is never with the OW again.

I was so close to dnf’ing this because the scenes, well not really “scenes”, but the time he spent with the ow just seemed to drag on. After around 50% and she was still in the picture, although the H grew tired of her and closer to the h earlier than that, I was getting really irritated that she was still involved with the H throughout half the book. He breaks it off with her officially at about 66%. The only reason I didn’t DNF was because the never did anything beyond kissing, if they had I would’ve immediately Dnf’d because that is a major pet peeve of mine.

But other than that annoying drama I really loved this books. It felt really different to me, I’ve never read about a h like the h in this book, lol I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be a secret or not about what she is because I didn’t see anything about it in other reviews I read so Ill keep it a secret, but she was very unique and I loved it!

I would definitely recommend this book to everyone and if you’re a safety gal like me, I would say if you can push through the annoying slight ow drama like I did, I think you would truly enjoy it!!

This is one of those books that you read and you know it will stay with you long after you’ve finished the words on the page. I was not prepared for the journey that Salsbury took me on but was completely captivated by Milo and Mercy’s story. A riveting story of love, of acceptance, of sacrifice; I didn’t want it to end.

I don’t want to give away too much detail as I feel that the less you know beforehand, the more intense the experience will be. This is one of the most unique and gripping stories I’ve read in quite some time. Two extremely different people, from completely different worlds, somehow find their way to one another. Beautiful, emotional, profound, I devoured every word and felt every feeling. Ghostgirl stands apart from the rest of Salsbury’s work. I am loving the direction she has gone in and I’m eagerly awaiting more!
