Crush on Your Brother's Best Friend

Rate this book
Tantalizing and too hot for his own good, Dylan is every girl's fantasy. Too bad he’s off limits.
Eden
Falling for my brother's best friend? Bad idea. Not only is he too old for me, but he’s also leaving in a month to join the Army. When Dylan rescues me from a party gone wrong, I know I don’t want him to forget about me when he leaves. I’ll make sure he doesn’t.

Dylan
Eden. My best friend's little sister. Too young. Too adorable. Too tempting. I knew I should forget all about her. I was leaving for Basic Training soon and she didn't even have her driver's license. I tried. I really, really did.

Bad message to send to teenage girls

Th was such a cute story and I was enjoying reading it right up until about halfway through. Where it turned into a “she asked for it lecture strait out of a 1950s abstinence only sex ed program... There was a situation where a girl went farther with a boy than she she meant to. Ok, understandable. It happens. The problem is that the author did almost a whole chapter where character was introspective and lecturing/slut-shaming herself at how she had allowed it to happen. Not in a rape victim guilt way, but in an actual literal self lecture. Examples of the harmful message to teen girls? Character reflects the “message “ she had sent the boy by how she had dressed... ok, welcome to 1959. Boy tells girl she had been throwing herself at him, girl mentally AGREES that she had been throwing herself at him. Well if that’s the what the author was trying to convey, then she missed her mark. How is an almost 16 year old girl walking up to a guy, going to a party with him, and kissing him (when HE initiated it) “throwing herself” at said guy by any stretch of the imagination??! What a way to ruin a cute story.

Loved the story! Very different from the first but equally enjoyable.

•Eden and Dylan were great. Real characters with real emotions and issues.
•I loved that Allie and Connor were part of the story. Eden played a big part in getting them together, so it was great that they played a part in helping Eden.
•I liked how Eden's sophomore story started. I think it was very authentic as many girls in the position just want a boyfriend and will do anything to get one. I hate that Marshall had such an impact on Eden's high school life, but I totally get why.
•I loved that Dylan was there for Eden, even when Josh left. Even for the little things like driving to school, but especially for the big things.
•I think they way Eden and Dylan's relationship progressed was very realistic. They started as friends and slowly developed feelings. I think it was right they kissed before Dylan left. It was unfortunate, but authenic.
•Just like Dylan was there for Eden, she was there for him during Basic. Even if it was just writing letters, she was a good outlet for him.
•Part of me thinks the way Dylan handled their letters was good for Eden, but at the same time, I wanted to see their relationship grow. At the same time...
•Eden needed time away from Dylan to grow up emotionally and come to terms with sophomore year. And time to forgive him. They were at different points in their life and I don't think they would have worked out while Eden was in high school and Dylan was not. No matter how much they may want it, high school is it's own world and it would have been hard for Dylan to relate to Eden and Eden to relate to Dylan.
•Josh's response to Dylan admitting his feelings was GREAT! It was very grown up and the way a big brother should react. His reasoning for being okay with Dylan and Eden was fantastic. Likewise, Eden's father was great.

Great, GREAT story. Real and different than most YA/high school stories.

Wasted read..should be titled "Perks of being desperate"

Right at the start, I did not like the FMC. She was self centered and clueless. I mean she wanted a boyfriend so she approached this guy who basically just used her. Everyone was telling her he was not a good guy and the guy didn't even treat her like a girlfriend. The worst was she lost her v-card to said guy - not a nice way too. Oh yeah it wasn't rape. I mean the guy was 18 and the FMC was 16. I can't believed the author decided to write about such unpleasant non/rape incident. There was no warning on the book summary that the book will cover underage non rape sex incident. Can't recommend this book.

The title should be the perks of being desperate since due to the heroine desperate want to have a boyfriend, she ended up having sex with a jerk who only wants to have sex with a 16 year old. The worst was the actual mc h was still in the picture when this happened. What a wasted read.

Adorably addicting!

I sincerely hope the author reads this! For me, any book that touches on military is normally a no go because the author fumbles everything... the amazing author got all her terminology correct along with a realistic capture of basic while creating a truly adorable love story.., also I would like to beat Marshall to a pulp...

I thoroughly enjoyed Dylan and Eden's story. I could relate to Eden's naivety, I remember what that was like as a teen, though I was disappointed that she ignored so many people around her when it came to 'he-who-shall-not-be-named'. I soon got over that though, because I fell for Dylan's protective and endearing ways. So much angst to be had! I'm really enjoying reading Stephanie's work. Bring on some more!

*Eden and Dylan
*Brother's Best Friend Romance

What were her parents thinking letting Eden out of the house looking like that? She might not have any idea what kind of thoughts a guy had when a hot girl dressed in short skirts and thigh-high boots, but I did.
Oh, man, did I.
I about had to scrape my jaw off the pavement when I first saw her walking out of her house, she looked that good. Don’t get me wrong, Eden’s always been pretty. Gorgeous. Adorable. And so tiny, you wanted to put her in your pocket and take her home. But today she looked like a goddess.

I nestled my head on his broad chest, deciding it was a lovely place to be, even better than my bed. Maybe I should stay right there instead.

Dylan's outraged reaction to the way I dressed, showing off more skin than I ever had before, was because he cared about me. He respected me.

He did it. Before I could finish the word, his lips were on mine. At first, I was too stunned to register what was happening, but this was no school yard peck on the lips. No. Dylan kissed me and by the time I caught up, he was still there. His warm lips moving against mine. And it was-everything.

Had I been attracted to Eden for a long time? Sure. But this? These freaking feelings? No. That was all new. Or at least I thought they were. I'd wondered, though, I hadn't just been deluding myself.

DYLAN: "You make a beautiful maid of honor, Ed, but I think you'd make an even more beautiful bride. My bride. I've loved you as long as I can remember, Eden. Will you please, finally be mine forever? Will you marry me?"
EDEN: "Yes! Yes! Yes!"

*spoliers* It was like

Watching a train wreck. Eden's behavior at the beginning of the book. You saw it coming, you wanted to look away, but you couldn't.

Everyone tried to warn her. But she was too stubborn and foolish to listen. And it's heartbreaking what it cost her. (She may not have said it was rape, but she didn't enthusiastically consent. And that is rape.)

This author has absolutely no problems dealing with big issues in her books. It's nice that she doesn't shy away from them, but I feel like they aren't very well explored either.

What Marshall did to Eden was horrible. We saw the aftermath. We saw her hide, and we knew that from the first book too. But she didn't really grow. She suppressed. And that kind of trauma isn't going to go away. Also, the author pushed the limits of consensual sex, but didn't even touch pregnancy and STDs. I feel like that's just not practical. Was Eden already on a contraception? Did Marshall use a condom? How was Eden not concerned about this? It just doesn't make sense that there wasn't any thoughts on this from Eden. Or Dylan. I mean, he knew enough to consider the hospital.

There's a lot of heartbreak in this one. It gets a HEA, but not easily.

I gave it only 3 stars because I really feel like the author should have included thoughts on pregnancy/STDs. Even counseling for Eden. It feels disingenuous to leave that out.

I think the characters were really interesting. I liked the way that Eden know whats she wants and just do it (my girl!). I also liked that a theme about abuse was introduced. Yes, she got with the guy and she wanted it, but it doesn't diminish that she was not ready and the he was just using her. I loved the part that Dylan took her broken pieces and cared for her, he was really sweet.

Now, let's talk about Dylan. Ok, what is it about military man (or wanna be) that make them so hot? OMG! Hahaha Dylan was really the big-bro-type that need to protect-girl-because-he-is-too-much-for-her. Kind of “blah” with all this “i am too old for her” and “she is my best friend's baby sister". Although it was was well pulled, I just wanted to shake him a few times! Nonetheless, I think it was really sweet of him to want the approval of her family before doing anything.

I would recommend it for a easy reading and maybe some eye-opening about a few jerks that we find and real life (not Dylan, of course)

Ughhhhh okkay. This book is really 4 stars. There were some grammatical errors that stood out but I related so much to this book. I really did love it. I loved The Perks of Dating You (Allie & Connor!) but I think I loved this one even more. I love the falling-in-love-with-older-brother's-best-friend trope and this didn't disappoint. What surprised me was that it also had the main love interest going into the army and when things finally start happening between Eden and Dylan, he was set to leave for basic training in a month and then stationed to who knows where. It's something I'm kind of going through now and reading the hardships of knowing that they're leaving and having this long distance relationship through letters, ughhhhhhhh, I just kept on crying. Aside from all that, I really enjoyed the development of Eden in the story and Dylan ... I just love Dylan so muchhhh!

The book was ok. Although there are a few things that did put me off. First of, if a girl feels uncomfortable in a situation she ALWAYS has the right to say no and change her mind. It's HER body. I feel the boy Marshall should have gotten a bit of a bigger problem than just a beating. He was an almost grown man taking advantage of a naive barely sixteen year old girl. And then with Dylan, it feels almost like, now that the military is kicking him out now he wants her back? What would have happened if he wasn't in the parachute accident and stayed in the military? Would he just continue on with his military and let her be by herself.

Loved!

Such a fun, long journey! I loved that the story spanned more than a year, it made me really eager to find out what was going to happen next. I also really loved the honesty about some of the relationship/high school aspects or the story, especially the things other people glaze over or nobody ever wants to write or talk about. They're important.
It was a really unique read and I highly recommend

To be honest, this one was a bit painful to read. I felt for Eden and Dylan, and watching them make some truly cringeworthy decisions made me think about how everyone does things they probably regret later. (And no, that doesn't only apply to teenagers.)
That being said, I'm happy how things turned out for these two - even if things might have gone a lot faster/smoother, if only Dylan had talked to his best friend sooner...

I really enjoyed getting a look at things from Eden's perspective. I was heartbroken when Dylan told her he wasnt going to talk to her anymore. Then the didnt talk for like 4 years, that's was also super sad. I will admit that I enjoyed reading about their date at the shooting range. That date was definitely for them. Before I finish my review I wanted to say I loved the proposal. It was my favorite part of the book.

Could have been 4 stars

I really liked this book, with the exception of two glaring issues - the constant repeat of entire scenes I just read in book 1, and the way Eden just stopped her life for Dylan and then just accepted everything. I needed her to be stronger and grow herself, without her life revolving around a guy. I still really enjoyed the book.

I liked Eden and Dylan. I was worried about a happily ever after at the start of the book, but the author does a pretty good job of summarizing the gap time in the middle of book. I could have done with out the curse words. The author does a good job showing the bonding of the characters.

I am so mad that i do not remember what exactly happened in the first book because Allie and Connor were a significant enough part of this book as well! However, this was slightly different from general teen books with age differences and such. I liked the characters and they clearly loved each other. No idiotic drama but probably not all that memorable either.

SO GOOD!

Stephanie took us on quite a journey with these two and I loved it... the joys and pains. I love how realistic Eden and Dylan’s journey was. The length of time apart, the way life had to happen for the both of them before they could reunite- very realistic, IMO. Highly recommend!

Great read for before bed

This book can control your emotions if you let it, and the characters feel so real. I fell in love with Eden’s personality, especially when she was snarky with Dylan. Who could blame him for falling for her and vice versa?

Good book!

3.5 stars
It was a good book but I prefer the first half. The second half felt rushed. But I finished it and that a good sign.
Now I usually can’t get passed a few chapters when I get bored.

Good characters, not so good plot

While I liked Dylan and Eden as characters the plot was a little bit of a let down. I kind of had to force myself through the second half of the book.

Love it

Book two in the series is just as good as the first book if not even better. I loved both Eden and Dylan and how their relationship evolved. If you liked the first book in the series you won't be disappointed with this book.

The timeline actually starts a year before the first book and finally gives more insight about Eden's secret which Allie hints at in her story. The story itself had many parallels to the first book which was a bit boring but it's still a very cute story to read :)

I liked this book a lot. It was cute and sweet. Perfect for a mood booster. I just wish it had a little bit more towards the end between Eden and Dylan. More of them together. But it was a great book!

Whoa.

That wasn’t as fluffy as the first one. There were some heavier topics broached, for sure. It explained Eden’s actions from the first novel, which I appreciated. I was really happy to see Allie and Connor from the first book, that was fun.

4 1/2 stars.

Wow. This was a lot heavier than I was expecting. My heart broke for Eden. And a bit for Dylan as well. Stephanie Street got real with this book. I think it would be good for teenage girls to read this one if they are thinking other fluff romance books are reality. This was a tough read.

Fourish stars

I enjoyed this book but gave it only four stars because I didn’t like it as much as the first in the series and her handling of the main character’s racial heritage seemed very pre-2000s.
