Life is a series of events, one leading you to another. The hell I lived through with my drug-addicted parents led me to the Marine Corps. Committing my life to my country was easy. My brothers were my family--all I had and all I needed. I wasn’t looking for her, but I should have known life had other plans.
It led me to her.
From the moment we met, I knew he was different--I just didn’t realize he'd change my life. He was a guy on leave, an acquaintance. Until he was something more, something unforgettable. I never imagined he'd leave ten days later, taking a piece of me with him. Then again, maybe I did know. I just didn't care.
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author Kaylee Ryan has been crowned the Queen of Swoon by her readers. With nearly fifty romance books under her belt, she’s known for penning happily ever afters with heart. When she's not writing, you can find her with a book in her hand or hanging out with her family where she resides in her home state of Ohio.
Not my usual read at all but I got sucked in and swept away by Kaylee Ryan's writing. This read like a true story, no over the top drama or unrealistic plot twists just a beautiful story written perfectly.
Some may say it was cheesy and naïve, I say better this way than ‘sucking dry’ one of the typical romance tropes dancing around double standards.
Both virgins. Equal. One of the best played virgin storylines. They were 100% devoted to each other.
No unnecessary drama. Decent characters, family values, sweet and warm moments.
Good side characters. Light manwhore-shaming – color me surprised *lol*, it comes never, almost never! They gladly trash experienced women, but never dwell on manwhores. It was a long time I read a book where the hero was not only a true gentleman, but also didn’t drop his, IMO, right attitude due to the jokes of his buddies and, IMO, silly believing that a man needs to play the ground before he settles down.
NA is not quite my genre, but hell yeah to writing it with good and poignant values! Well done! Very well done!!!
My only small complain – the ending was a bit rushed and wrapped up without much insight how their ‘issues’ were solved. Sweet epilogue, but what about side characters? What about his BFF, who served as a marine, what about his injured buddy? 20 to 30 pages with more explanation would make this story whole.
This is a great story to read after a highly intense or dark book.
The heart doesn’t know distance.
Slade, a Marine scarred by a turbulent childhood, finds solace and purpose in the camaraderie of the Corps. Life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Austyn during a brief leave.
Austyn senses something special about Slade. She knows he is leaving in a few days, but their connection is very genuine.
Both virgins Military/college romance Very safe story Slow burn Found family Texting/letters No ow/om HEA
Has the feel of an all-American, Christian romance, but there is graphic intimacy. There is some tragedy near the end, and I felt the author left a few loose ends, but overall it was a safe and gentle story.
“I love you, Austyn. If I'm honest, that’s really not a strong enough word for what you bring to my life, for what you’ve given me.”
This is a sweet story that beautifully explores themes of healing, family, connection, and the enduring impact of love.
Wow, this book!! I have loved quite a few of this author’s books but this one is definitely near the top. This to me is a true love story, a true romance. It’s low on angst. It’s REAL. Slade is one of the sweetest heroes while also having that alpha possessive side to him. He’s perfection. I also adored Austyn the h just as much which is rare for me. There’s no crazy OTT drama in this one. It’s just a story of two people that were meant to be together finding each other and falling in love. It has a great cast of secondary characters that add to the story. And an amazing epilogue 10 years out. I want more of these two along with their BFFs Brandon and Savannah.
Dual virgins and each other’s one and only No ow/om drama at all She is his first kiss but he isn’t hers although she never did anything other than kissing and isn’t even something mentioning it is just that when he told her about it she was surprised and he doesn’t reply saying he is her first kiss too. She is inexperienced but I can say she had already at least try dating someone. No drama though, is just a mention about her kicking some boy to the curb once he was jealous about something stupid
I really like this book but I was tired of Savanah and Brandon interruption them and I was also a little pissed because we had to read about their relationship a lot but in the end there was no mentions about their HEA.
There are a few aspects that bothered me a little, like a few mentions about how different she is from the girls from his town depreciating the other girls. Also some shit like “men are jealous/possessive”. She apologize for being mad at him being super protective but really the hole scene was unnecessary. This is a very pro militar book and I have mixed feelings about how I feel reading it. His trauma could have been handled better.
I felt like this is not a short book but she took sooo long going on with their story without any big think happening. I wish more things would have been shown.
Slade was a great hero and she is also a nice heroine. I like how he had mommy and daddy issues but guess what? Becoming a manwhore wasn’t his solution. His grandma took him in and he was very busy talking care of her and guess what? He didn’t relieve his tension by fucking around. His only family died and he again didn’t become a whore to “deal with the pain” or “numb his feelings”. He is a loner but tananan he is truly lonely, he is those kind of lovers who are alone 22 hours a day except by the couple hours they spent fucking someone. I’m tired of authored finding any bullshit excuse to justify the hero being a whore and at the same time using similar excuses to justify the heroine being a virgin/celibate. Fuck that shit
I liked but it could have been more. I loved how her family took care of him though. He truly deserved being loved.
Though it was a bit dragging in the beginning, this was probably one of the best dual virgin storyline that I’ve read.
•This book’s packed with sweet and heart warming moments. •MCs and side characters are likable. •Heroine’s family was amazing. It melted my heart that they took H in and treated him as their own. •Ending was a bit rushed that left me question what’s happened to hero’s military friend ?
Safety : Dual virgin they are each other’s first and only. No OW/OM drama. HEA. 10 years married with kids.
I received an ARC for an honest review. The quote was taken from an ARC is subject to change upon publication.
Kaylee Ryan has done it again! If you ever want to know why she’s one of my favorite romance authors, its because she writes awesome books like this. I was hooked from the very beginning.
I don’t read military romance too often so I didn’t really know what to expect when I started reading. This was so damn real! I really didn’t expect to feel emotional and so drawn into these characters. Once I started reading I kept saying “One more chapter” but I couldn’t put the book down.
This book is about young love and the troubles military couples and families face. I don’t have a military family so I can’t say that I relate, but my heart does go out to those who do.
I wouldn’t say that Slade and Austyn have insta love but they do have an instant connection. They take their time to get know one another even when Slate is away at training and nothing was rushed between them. These two were so sweet and they made this book amazing. Especially Slate! He never failed to show or tell Austyn how he felt about her.
“No matter what happens, I need you to tell me you know what you mean to me. You’ve given me life Austyn. I had nothing before you. I’m leaving you with my heart, my soul, and I’ll be back to get it.”
Like how can you not get emotional or root for someone who says that?! Well, I sure did. I kept hoping that everything would work out for them in the end. It had to because I was too invested for it not to work!
This was an extremely sweet romance that tugged on my heartstrings. This is definitely worth a read!
What a truly beautiful story that exceeded my expectations, yes it has a military background but it is so much more.
Austyn and Slade meet unexpectedly and it changes both their lives in ways they never expected forever. This is a slow build gentle love story that charmed me from the start. The story deals the impact military life has not only on the soldiers but on the loved ones who are left at home when they go on deployment.
Two very relatable characters one who has had the perfect childhood and one who has had the exact opposite. Slade stole my heart he was everything I look for in a male lead, strong but vulnerable, loving and tender.
The author writes characters that are true to life and I'm sure this story will resonate with lots of military families. reviewed by Sweet Spot Sisterhood
I started reading Pull You Through with little knowledge of what the story was about. I was delighted to learn that it was a military romance; Marines are always a winner for me and this novel didn't disappoint.
Innocent, young love is explored in depth with Austyn and Slade. The development of their relationship isn't rushed. They fall quickly for each other, yet their love feels authentic. I felt a deep connection with both these characters; Austyn a sweet college girl and Slade a new Marine recruit. As with all military stories, I was on edge waiting for the heartbreak I knew must be coming and I will admit that I shed a tear or two.
I enjoyed the detailed description of base life and rules in Pull You Through. Having met and married a military man myself, the author's account of the life made me feel as though I was there again.
This story may be a bit slow paced for some, however, I enjoyed the journey of Slade and Austyn's love story.
Being a Marine is one of the toughest jobs anyone can have. It's a brother hood that never ends..Semper Fi all the way. Training is truly hard physically and mentally. BUT then the really hard part is when your deployed. These men and women see things that we only read about. Slade and Brandon really stole my heart in this book. Both are truly brave men. They wanted to be selfless and serve their country. They knew it would be hard on them and Brandon's family, plus the two women they both love. And those women were brave too. Smiles on their face as they watched them leave to go on their mission only to fall apart when they were alone. Being in Afghanistan, the desert and the unbearable heat makes the reality of this mission even harder. BUT you have to be aware, because out of no where fate says GOTCHA!!!! And your life changes forever. What you went through never truly leaves. Kaylee really gutted me with this story. The Military isn't for everyone. But Slade and Brandon really are heros
Pull You Through by Kaylee Ryan is the story of Slade and Austyn. Slade had nothing and no one so he joined the military to make his life. But things changed when his friend took him home on leave and he met his sister...Austyn. They started a slow friendship to more relationship. With Slade in the military it added to their slow build. Austyn had her life planned out but meeting Slade made that plan change....all for the better! Enjoyed reading their story.
Maybe it’s because I’m an emotional bitch🤡 but I cried like 5 times reading this book. Probably one of if not the best military romances I’ve ever read.
It's hard to believe that this is only my fifth book from Kaylee Ryan, but I think that it may very well be my most favorite read of hers to date! Her books just keep getting better and I cannot wait to ONE DAY fo back to read them all because her stories are extremely addictive from beginning to end!
Pull You Through is a powerfully captivating and emotionally raw story about young love. The moment Slade laid eyes on the beautifully sweet Austyn be was a goner and it didn't take her long to follow suit. Their chemistry was undeniable and their love burned bright for all to see. He was a young marine who had no one to live for until she came into his life. The last thing he ever expected was to fall in love at probably one of the worst possible times...right before he's about to leave for months of training.
Like Slade, Austyn never anticipated finding the love of her life at only 18 and she certainly didn't expect him to be a marine. Suddenly her entire world is shifted upside down when he shows up in town with one of her childhood friends. The attraction is evident and the feelings develop fast, but their love is one of a kind.
Will their love continue to blossom or will distance ultimately come between them? To find out make sure to pick up your copy of Pull You Through on June 12!
This is what I get for trying my luck with a sweet and wholesome romance.
My biggest issue with a lot of romance books is that there is too much going on and not enough focus on the romance. I tend to prefer relationship-driven stories. But this one had the opposite problem. It was 99% dialogue and correspondence. There really wasn’t much of a plot, and there was very minimal drama. Everything was sunshine and rainbows throughout the entire story, and the only difficulties that did pop up were glossed over. This is the definition of a light and fluffy read. If that’s your thing, then I would probably recommend this as the writing wasn’t terrible and the characters were likable enough, if not a bit bland.
One thing that struck me as so odd, as an adult reader reading an adult book with explicit adult content, is the scene where the heroine, the heroine’s parents, and the hero discuss whether H and h should spend the night together in a hotel. h seems scared of sex, and they all act like it’s totally normal for a young ADULT woman to have a group discussion about this in order to make a decision. I might expect this out of a clean book, maybe of the religious variety, but this book did contain smut.
I did throw in some points for dual virgins because I am a sucker for that. I also enjoy heroes that display a more silent and threatening type of possessiveness. I thought the hero was just the right amount of possessive that was believable while still showing some inner caveman.
I don’t think this is the author for me, but that’s just because I need more toxicity intensity in my romance books.
Pull You by Kaylee Ryan was a beautiful and emotional romance and with this author, you can expect no less. She quickly became a must-read author for me and stories like this is why. This was a story of true love, choices and life in the military and it tugged at my heart.
Slade’s early life was a difficult one. His entire life, only one person truly cared about him. After high school his commits his life to the marines never expecting to find his other half. When on leave with a friend, he meets Austyn and everything changes.
This was a slow burn romance. I loved how Slade and Austyn shared friendship, love and growth together. I loved the support she had in her family. They were young but knew what they could have was special. Their chemistry and connection was instant, but they took their time and it was so damn sweet.
I loved everything about Pull You Through by Kaylee Ryan. A story about young love and hope. A beautiful and romantic story to get lost in and one I highly recommend!
Loved it! Read and reviewed for Sultry Sirens Book Blog.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to get when I started this book but it was a super sweet, really low drama read that warmed my heart. When it came to Austyn and Slade, the author pulled me in. I’m not one for YA-ish type books and while this was more new adult because of their age it still had that cleaner feel to it. There was sex in it but it was sweet. It was love making. Seeing this couple navigate a new relationship and come out on the other side even given their circumstances, I couldn’t put it do. I devoured the book. I’ve read a lot of military romance in the past but I will admit that this one warmed my heart the most. 4 stars #2OCCJD
What a sweet, emotional read. Military romances are one of my favourite types of romance, and this one did not disappoint. Slade had a pretty rough past and was dealing with the death of a loved one at the beginning of the book. He was so broken and feeling lost. He visits a marine buddy’s family and meets Austyn. Their connection was instant! Loved all the sweet moments between them while they navigated their new relationship and how to handle it while being in the marines. When Slade comes home for his first deployment Austyn is so strong and really shows up for him. Anybody that wants a sweet contemporary read needs to pick up this book! 5 stars!!!
I'm struggling to finish this book . I'm 85% in and i just have to finish it cuz i spent too many days on it ! i loved the first chapters . but after that the story got old and repetitive real quick . and the I LOVE YOUs were too much for my taste . also , the book so far is corny and cheesy . i mean the cheesecorns are real people . here's to hoping I'll be able to finish it . but with all that said . the story is very well written . and i appreciate the author's effort . maybe this book just isn't my cup of tea .
I wouldn't recommend this I was literally bored but I refused to dnfd...either way it was cheesy, cute and bla bla bla dual virgins, insta love 😒 Didn't do it for me
Slade and Austyn are baby-faced teenagers, barely legal adults when the story kicked off. Most characters in this story are still living with their parents—something I wasn't expecting, and honestly stories that I typically shy away from, but I was hooked by the first page.
Slade had a shit life. The only family that mattered was his Gran. When she passes abruptly, Slade finds a new purpose—the military life. Slade is damn chivalrous, protective of what matters, the real strong-n-sexy-silent-type that goes with the flow.
Slade's military path crosses with the young Brandon Combs. The two become fast friends and military brothers for life. Brandon brings Slade to his home town.
Slade is humbled by the welcome home and yet envious by Brandon's tight family relationships—in those subtle moments, you can see the young boy underneath the Marine, abandoned, Slade learned to expect disappointment and always longed for a loving family of his own—those raw-rip-your-heart-out emotions are beautifully captured throughout this book.
In small town middle of nowhere, Brandon introduces Slade to his childhood friend Ausytn—Boy meets girl in bo-dunk diner and a warm and flirty Summer romance blooms over Merry-Go-Rounds and deep fried Oreos.
Austyn is your small town, blonde-haired, blue-eyed Southern beauty. Austyn is a good girl, she loves her mama, loves Jesus n' America too. She's a hard worker, busy college student and grew up behind that white picket fence.
They weren't expecting on finding each other. Right girl. Wrong Time. Slade's time is limited.
Their friendships becomes about stolen touches, a physical pull that keeps pulling them together—something they agree is worth exploring...something worth waiting for.
As a reader, you follow Slade and Austyn on this journey.
The long distance military life. Relationship Firsts. Difficult Adult decisions. Living for Stolen moments. Heartbreak and Duty of Deployment. And the ultimate Sacrifice.
So Why not 5 Stars? What I lovingly call a short n' fluffy read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the slow burn. The love scenes were realistically innocent, well-written and a real learning curve? Austyn's family dynamic had that small town family feel that I love. The secondary characters all added to the plot, and it all came full circle in the end.
Check. Check. And Check.
However...the dialogue was quite juvenile and repetitive at times. But then again, the characters aren't even old enough to drink. The plot wasn't that intense, their relationship was obviously the forefront. There weren't a series of big moments leading up to the climax. You kinda stumbled into it there at the end. Truly a dialogue driven story, not a lot of description/narration. As a reader, it was difficult to imagine the setting and characters at times.
The whole sit down thing with Austyn's parents still makes me chuckle when I think about it. Do people really do that? Austyn wasn't a prude, but c'mon...sometimes you gotta put your big girl panties on and deal with it...Anyway
Typical romance cheese that I'm a sucker for—manly over-protectiveness, a bit of a jealous streak, sweet n' innocent like Southern tea, with the overly attentive and flawless lover.
The worst part for me—the pet names. * cringes * The cheese level was off the charts. I forced myself to mentally block them out in order to continue. More of a personal preference, not thatbig of a deal in the grand scheme of things.
Overall, an enjoyable light-hearted read. Slade's family emotions hit me in the feels. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.
⭐️ 4 "His Angel & Her Knight" Stars ⭐️ Kaylee Ryan always crafts the best slow burn romances. In Pull You Through, she once again brings all the sweetness possible with a charming first love story that is butterflies in the stomach worthy.
While on leave from Marines Corps' training, Slade Reeves meets beautiful Austyn Wilson in his buddy Brandon’s small town in Kentucky. They connect on all levels right away and their romance is beautiful. Slade is this sexy guy with a heart of gold and he treats Austyn like his angel! She's a mature girl for her age and meeting Slade brings her the kind of love she’s always dreamed of. She knows want she’s worth and never settled for anything less than the feelings she finally gets to experience with her military man.
I love how they express everything they feel to be on the same page and surpass the obstacles of distance and their unknown future. Through text messages, phone calls and letters they keep their new relationship thriving!
While I enjoyed this story greatly, I felt it was a little too long. With no real drama happening until the very ending, I was just expecting a little bit more to keep my attention completely. Overall, Pull You Through is really about the building of a gorgeous relationship between Austyn and Slade and it definitely put a smile on my face.
** ARC received in exchange for an honest review **
Every once in a while, you read a book that completely turns your world upside down. It happens every so often, and when it does, your heart is so full you feel like it could burst. I wish I could express how much this book impacted me, how much I felt while I read it, but the words to convey just how wonderful it was aren’t going to be enough. It’s one of those rare books that I want to give all the stars too! I loved it so much. Kaylee is a favorite of mine, and when I heard she had a new book coming out I jumped for joy! I love her writing so I figured it would be a great read. I didn’t realize just how good it would be. I didn’t realize it would be the kind of book that moved me and captivated me.
Kaylee Ryan is one of my favorite authors. This is by far her best book yet. These two characters and their story are completely unforgettable. This story was heartbreakingly beautiful, but by the end, I had the biggest smile on my face. It isn’t a book you want to miss out on. This is going on that list of one of my top favorite books EVER! If you haven’t read it yet, don’t miss out!
Smooth and sweet! I loved the way Austyn and Slade, slowly and meaningful, got to know one another. Slade made a life for himself in the Marines because he was literally alone in this world. As a member of a large family of siblings, in-laws and a few out-laws, lol, I can't imagine not being connected to someone else sharing your lineage. So the Marines along with Austyn's loving family became Slade's family. Nevertheless, Slade and Austyn demonstrated what true love is suppose to look like! Slade did everything possible to protect and support Austyn in whatever decisions she faced. What an awesome story!
