New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

Love it! Love it! LOVE IT! Do you get that I really liked this one? This is such a fun, cozy mystery series and it never fails to deliver humor, quirky characters and a mystery. This book has all that and more, so much more.

As summer draws to an end, so does Fortune's time in Sinful. LA. Having to relocate is not something Fortune wants to do. Unfortunately, Fortune is no closer to being safe than she was when she came here. Ahmed, the arms dealer threatening Fortune's life, is still on the loose and Fortune is pretty sure she doesn't want to return to the CIA. Her options are in short supply and I just hope she doesn't make a really foolish choice.

Fortune doesn't want to continue her life in limbo, waiting for the CIA to find, capture or kill Ahmed. She is ready and determined to end this with or without CIA assistance. Bait, Fortune is ready to offer herself up as bait in order to entrap Ahmed. But Ahmed isn't the only living creature on the loose that belongs in a trap. Godzilla, Gertie's pet alligator is menacing Main Street and sent Celia up the nearest light pole. Celia has vowed to kill him and wants everyone arrested, of course. Godzilla needs a safe wildlife refuge and fast. While waiting for the CIA to set a plan in motion, Fortune, Gertie and Ida Belle have a thief to catch. Someone is stealing food from the diner and our girls must solve the "Case of the Missing Morsels".

As Fortune, with a little help from some unexpected places, prepares to face off with Ahmed, she and Carter realize that as different as they are, they want to see where this relationship goes. The only thing in their way is Ahmed and since this is a really nasty, mean, tricky SOB he is a very big obstacle.

Change of Fortune by Jana Deleon was fun from page one to the end. I laughed and I cried as I watched Fortune, Ida Belle and Gertie once again try to solve a small town mystery and attempt to save Gertie's pet alligator. Fortune's neighbor Roland had me rolling with laughter. I love this series and am eagerly waiting for the my library to get me the next book.

The eleventh book of the Miss Fortune Mystery series by Jana Deleon. Someone is taking food from the local café so the gang is on the job to find out who. Then there is Godzilla who is terrorizing the neighborhood and Fortune and the gang must catch him before someone kills him. And then, of course, it's time to force Ahmad's hand so Fortune puts herself up as bait to get him.

Another excellent addition to a fun series. Fortune and Carter are becoming more involved. Loved it!

Change of Fortune by Jana Deleon is the 11th book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series. Fed up with hiding out, Fortune sets up a trap for Ahmad, while also dealing with Celia and Godzilla, and the case of the missing food from the cafe. This has to be one of my favourite books in the series as Fortune contemplates making changes to her life and her relationship with Carter develops. Plenty of laughs as usual and a lot of fun.

This is book 11 in the series. And it's the best one yet!

So much happened in this installment. And I absolutely cannot wait to see what happens next!!

I've given all the books in the Miss Fortune series a 4 or 5. This one should have been among the best because the back story takes a big jump.

I found it deflating. Most of the "humor" revolves around making fun of Celia, the towns woman cast as the villain. The meanness of Fortune and her sidekicks, Ida Bell and Gertie towards Celia came across as school yard bullying by the in-crowd. It was always hard to imagine Celia as horrible as she is portrayed in prior installments. After all, if she was nearly elected mayor in a small town where everyone had known her for decades, how bad could she be? But then, to pile on poor Celia and make fun of her unfashionable clothes and weight, well, it made Fortune and her buddies look worse than Celia.

The other aspect of this installment that was hard to bear was the author's repeated use of certain phrases. Characters "sigh", lips "quiver", and "eyes widen". A lot. Over and over again. I was starting to wince every time someone's eyes widened.

Oh, well. Lots of back story threads are wrapped up in one book, which made me wonder whether it will be the last. I hope not, but I also hope that, if the series continues, Celia is retired as the evil demon and Fortune and friends become a little kinder.

Another great book in the series!
When I grow up I want to be like Fortune Redding, tough, resilient, loyal and courageous - when it comes to be past she steps up and makes the future she wants a possibility.
Ahmed didn't stand a chance against this woman, which he learns.
But what can of worms has she opened with Big and Little? Only time will tell.
Lucky for Carter he's met his match and I can't wait to read what happens next.

When I want laugh-out-loud humor, I pick up a Miss Fortune book.

In Sinful, Louisiana, CIA assassin Fortune Redding continues to hide out under another identity from bad guy Ahmad. Her best friends Gertie and Ida Mae both used to be spies in the Vietnam War and Fortune's sweetheart is the local deputy. All of the other regulars are back -- arch enemy Celia, who is determined to run the ladies out of town, weird next door neighbor Ronald, and local mobsters Big and Little. Fortune has decided she would like to stay in Sinful which means she needs to set up a sting to kill Ahmad. New Orleans, lots of guns, and CIA operatives are involved.

Gertie's alligator provided a couple of the most hilarious scenes in the book although Ronald came a close second. Parts of this book were serious as Fortune has to take out an old adversary in order to avoid looking over her shoulder forever. I wonder where the author takes the story now. I know I'll be right here watching.

In Change of Fortune by Jana Deleon, Fortune Redding has grown tired of waiting for the CIA to catch Ahmad, the arms dealer who has put a million dollar price on Fortune’s head after she killed his brother for trying to sell a girl into sex slavery. So she has decided to put herself up as bait to draw him out of hiding. Neither Fortune’s CIA boss nor Deputy Carter LeBlanc, Fortune’s boyfriend, is happy with the plan, but they realize this may be their only chance to catch the dangerous gun runner. With summer’s nearing an end, Fortune has only a limited time before she will have to leave Sinful or lose her undercover identity. Enlisting the help of their local mafia friends, Big and Little Hebert, Fortune gets things set up to catch the man out to catch her.

In this 11th book about Fortune and her summer in Sinful, Louisiana, instead of enjoying the antics of the locals, Fortune has decided it is time to be out from under the threat of Ahmad. That is not to say she is too busy to try and catch Godzilla, or help Francine find out who is stealing food from the restaurant's panty. It's just that it is time to lure Ahmad to Fortune and end it once and for all. It will be her final mission, and the most important one of her life. When she enlists help from some dubious acquaintances, Fortune finds out she is respected in her career, and has more friends for life.

Gertie and Ida Belle are up to their usual standards of mischief and avoidance of Carter, who has become a little more understanding of the women and their antics. Or perhaps it is just his perpetual shock at having to deal with Cecelia.

There are plenty of surprises as well as some predictable moments. The author, however, has everything under control as the reader can't help but rush to the end if the story. Best news of all was the announcement that the next Miss Fortune Mystery will be out later in 2018! As always the book was fun from beginning to end with circumstances that funny and filled with witty dialog. Don't miss this book!

Free time and energy are two things I was short of and wanted a quick read, and the Miss Fortune series is one of a few that I reach for knowing that it's formulaic and sometimes exactly what's needed. Other cozy mystery authors seem to think that murder is the only option for crime in their stories and that makes me like Jana Deleon even more because she doesn't subscribe to that idiocy.

As usual, Jana Deleon doesn’t disappoint. With her laugh-out-loud prose, Jana weaves another chapter of Fortune Redding’s life. Everyone I know who reads this series wants to be friends with these people...except Celia, of course. I eagerly await the next book. These are great on audio, too. The narrator gives distinctive voice to each character, and delivers the dialogue with the personality and, yes, sarcasm, that you expect from these colorful characters. A must read...the whole series, not just the book.

2020 bk 99: Fortune is tired of living in hiding. With Ahmad doing work in New Orleans, he is too close to her, suggesting a move to a new city with a new identity or.. Fortune gives Harrison an ultimatum - set her up as bait to take down Ahmad. When Gertie, Ida Belle, and Carter insist on a role, Fortune has to figure a plan to keep her loved ones safe and still be able to take care of Ahmad. One of the more tense of the Miss Fortune titles, but still with fun.

6 Stars! Change of Fortune is book 11 in A Miss Fortune Mystery series. The series is set in Sinful, Louisiana, USA and follows Fortune, who is a CIA assassin in hiding, and old ladies Gertie and Ida Belle, who are lifelong Sinful residents and ex-spy war veterans, as they help solve a string of various crimes and murders.

This series is the first series of Cozy Mystery books that I have read. This is a new-to-me genre and I am really loving it. Once I listened to the first book, I couldn't stop. So far, I have been listening to all of the books back to back and I'm not quite ready to stop.

I recommend reading/listening to these books in order since each book builds upon the prior book's story and it makes it much more entertaining and enjoyable to go in order. However, if you choose to start with this book, there is a very brief introduction at the beginning that explains the series. This is the first of the books to do that.

There is humor throughout, but the first chapter was so funny, that I had tears from laughing. Change of Fortune has a little bit of everything and so much is happening. Gertie's pet alligator, Godzilla, is terrorizing the town in search for baked goods. Things have finally come to a head with the Ahmad situation and Fortune decides to offer herself up as bait in an attempt to end Ahmad and his threats once and for all. Amongst all of that, the ladies are trying to solve the mystery of missing food from Fancine's diner. Once again, Fortune teams up with Big and Little Hebert and their head bodyguard, Manny. We learn a bit more about them in this book too. We get more of Fortune's partner, Harrison, in this book and get to watch them working together. Harrison to Carter: "The woman sitting next to you is one of the best we have and have had for well over a decade. She's an awesome human being and a she's also the deadliest person I have ever known. If anyone can handle Ahmad, it's Fortune." I really like Harrison. I wish we could have had more of him throughout the series.

If you like books with a big dose of humor, this is the series for you. I have found myself laughing out loud too many times to count.

The same narrator reads for the whole series. She does a good job and I really like the fact that the character voices are consistent from book to book.

Eureka! The time has come for the initial plot device to wrap up, and although it didn’t take too long, it was totally worth it. Fortune has decided she’s had enough of this hiding out crap, and she’s ready to bring the fight to Ahmad. Although it’s a toss up as to who is more frustrating, the Middle East gun dealer, or Celia and her bat shit crazy machinations to sully Fortune’s reputation.

I love the bond Fortune has with Ida Belle and Gertie. A couple of peas in a pod those three, and her feelings for Carter are cause her to question what she wants out of life. It’s a great story, with two other subplots (Celia and Godzilla, and the missing inventory from the cafe) weaving in and out of Fortune’s plan to get Ahmad.

Like all the other books in the series, Change of Fortune is fast paced and action packed, and I adore it. Definitely going to be buying the paperbacks.

Miss Fortune Mystery: 11
It's been a week since the previous book, and Fortune's reluctance to have a serious conversation with Carter about making their relationship work being the kind of people they are still hasn't happened, which means the two are still in a holding pattern with benefits. When the CIA lose sight of Ahmad for the nth time, Fortune has had enough. She talks to Harrison and her boss to hash out a plan to take out the arms dealer once and for all. These books are like candy - short and sweet, and you know you'll enjoy them while they last. As always, strong characterization and character development, even with supporting characters. Fortune is a very likable main character - sensible, no-nonsense except when it comes to Ida Belle and Gertie, and willing to do what needs to be done. The background threads of what goes on in town while Fortune is having her zany adventures are solid and add to the continuity through the books.

I don't know what it is about this series, but I end up laughing about things that, in other series, would probably make me roll my eyes and consider dropping the series. Gertie's bottomless purse and her attachment to Godzilla... Ida Belle's obsession with her SUV... Celia's never-ending efforts to get everyone else arrested... and much, much more :)

There are a few puzzles to solve along the way, but the main plot of the story is the build-up to the confrontation that Fortune knows she has to face. She enlists some unorthodox help along the way, and I love those extra characters as much as I do the Sinful regulars. The face-off ended in a very satisfying way, but I wasn't quite as satisfied with the way the book itself ended, even though it leaves things open for the next book/s in the series.

I have all but the newest couple of books from this series in my Audible library, and I'm eager to return to Sinful to see what new adventures Fortune, Carter and the rest encounter next.

This one fell flat for me. I am not sure why, but I think it tries too hard. Though the series continues, the main arc of Fortune's journey up until this point ends here. She starts off in book 1 fleeing an angry terrorist. Now she tackles him head on.
Exciting, right?
But instead of tackling terrorists, she spends most of the book trying to locate a rouge alligator, figuring out the "mystery of the missing morsels" (her words, not mine), and having an emotional breakdown because she loves Sinful and her new friends so much.
And honestly, it is boring! By the time the climax came around, I wanted Ahmed dead just to end my own misery. Despite efforts to create tension, the entire take-down left me unmoved. (Maybe if I did not know there were more books in the series I would have felt more tension?)
Not my favorite in this series by a long shot. But, of course, still filled with the series signature flair and humor that makes it worth reading anyway!

It is always great to catch up with Fortune and her friends in Sinful and this one was another giggle from start to finish!

Fortune is getting a little worried, her time in Sinful, masquerading as her boss's niece, has been .... interesting .... to say the least and quite frankly she doesn't want to leave, for the first time she has friends in the shape of Ida-Belle, Gertie, Walter and Ally and more than a friend in Carter.  So the only way to stay is to get rid of Ahmed once and for all and then she can stop being Ms Morrow and start being Miss Fortune Redding and have a life again!

So she starts to run an idea past her boss, her contact at the CIA and ... oddly a couple of local mafia people, a sting will be happening in Louisiana and this time either Ahmed or Fortune won't be coming back.

Another good laugh and light read from Jana Deleon. They never fail to entertain. The original premise of the series is wrapped up in this book as Fortune will begin a new life.

The characters are well developed and the settings well described so i feel as if I am there. I get excited every time I see a new book has been added to this series.

This book felt very different from the others. There was still some of the crazy you come to expect from residents of Sinful. But there was definitely less of it. I think this was an important part of the story and needed to be said, but it is a very different type of book.

Hopefully this will be a turning point in the series and not the end of it.

Still had me laughing

While I know a lot of their antics are not probable, maybe that is why it is still so funny?

This book had a good solution to the conflict and I expect the series to take a big turn now.

I can't wait to read what else is on store for these characters

This one definitely was a change of pace. Everything slowed down, I thought that ending with Ahmad will never come and then it went down in 10 pages or so. It s a damn shame, we waited 10 books for it but instead we got a book about chasing a gator for whom I couldn't care less.
This doesn't mean I'll stop reading Miss Fortune, these books are the ones I read when I need a pick me up. They are usually filled with funny stories which, of course, include Gertie and Ida Belle alongside Fortune but this one was simply disappointing.
