The newest novel from New York Times bestselling author Emma Chase.

Head of the class...

Garrett Daniels has this whole life thing figured out.

The cocky, charismatic former high school star quarterback is an idolized football coach and "cool" teacher in the hometown where he's not just a golden boy — he's platinum. He has good friends, a great house on the lake, and the best damn sidekick a man could ask for: Snoopy, the albino beagle.

Then...Callie Carpenter comes home.

And knocks him right on his tight end zone.

Back to school...

Callie has a pretty sweet life herself...on the other side of the country. But circumstances — that she'd prefer to never speak of again — have brought her back home, helping out her parents and substitute teaching at her old high school.

Now she's facing bickering, raging hormones, constant gossip, awkward weirdness, and drama galore...and that's just the teachers.

Just like old times...

When Garrett offers to show his former high school sweetheart the secrets of his winning teacher ways, Callie jumps at the chance - and then has to stop herself from jumping him.

Good friends are all they can ever be.

Or...these teachers just might end up getting schooled — by love.

Getting Schooled is currently an Audible exclusive (will be available on other platforms this June), and I love my audio books, so the second it went live I picked it up. Not only was the story amazing for me, but two of my favorite narrators (Zachary Webber & Andi Arndt) narrated the book.

Callie Carpenter is coming home to take care of her parents, after being across the country in California for years. She ends up getting a temporary job at her high school in the theater department, and none other but her ex boyfriend and first love Garrett Daniels works there as coach and teacher.

Callie is the only girl Garrett has ever loved. Ever since they split, he’s had no real relationships. Now that she’s back, he can’t stay away. Callie needs a little help navigating the school and the students, and Garrett is just the guy to help her. I adored both Callie and Garrett. I thought they had amazing chemistry and a fabulous connection that never died, even after all those years. I rooted for these two to make it work and get back together!

Another fantastic thing about this book was that it took place in the high school. I loved the relationships they had with the students, the other teachers hilarious banter, honestly- there was nothing I didn’t love about this one!

There is something about both Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt. They bring their characters to life in every book that they read. I love their narration, and I would definitely recommend giving the audio-book a go, even if it’s not your preferred method of reading.

Emma’s writing is always on point. Her characters are a lot of fun, witty, and charismatic. And her male POV is one of the best I’ve ever read! This book was no exception! Getting Schooled was just the book I needed right now. It made me laugh, made me tear up at one point, and overall, it warmed my heart and left a huge smile on my face. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a second chance romance!

Narrator: As soon as Katerina finished Getting Schooled, Brain started some complex mathematical calculations, while Heart was suspiciously quiet.

Brain: *mumbles* One, two, three, four –
Heart: Brain, are you talking to yourself again? I always said you’d go bananas someday…
Brain: *ignores the jab* I’m counting the stars for Getting Schooled! Four are appropriate, don’t you think?
Heart: I am not so sure, why four?
Brain: Well, one for the humor, two for Snoopy
Heart:

Brain: - three for the sizzling chemistry and the abundant sexy times, four for all the feels!
Heart: Ahem, in case you forgot, I’m the expert in this department, and I’m disinclined to acquiesce to the latter.
Brain: Fancy vocabulary, Heart, did you watch Pirates of the Caribbean again?
Heart:... That’s not the point! I wasn’t overwhelmed with emotions, I’m afraid. I couldn’t feel the emotional connection between Garrett and Callie, it was a case of “tell” and not “show”, I was told about a supposed deep bond between them, but I couldn’t detect it.
Mouth: The physical connection was there, though, I drooled until I was parched!
Heart:

Brain: Are you alright, Heart? I'm getting signals that your pulse has quickened!
Mouth: Heart’s fine, probably can’t handle the -
Heart: STOP STEALING MY THUNDER, Mouth! What happens next, will Ovaries cut in stating that they exploded or Lungs that they couldn’t breathe with all the heat and –
Lungs: Actually –
Heart and Brain: Shut up, Lungs!
Mouth: Now I’m wounded, I’m off to consume a bucket of ice-cream.
Brain: Don’t you dare!
Heart: Already gone.
Brain: So, you were saying?
Heart: I was saying that Getting Schooled was an ultimate beach read -
Brain: We didn’t read it on the beach.
Heart: The way we keep working, I guess we’ll never see the beach this summer, but that’s a story for another time. What I mean is, it was funny and sexy, it featured hilarious and sweet moments with the kids at school, Garrett was cocky and hooot, but...
Brain: But?
Heart: I think that the story focused on the physical aspect of their relationship - not that I complain, Mouth was right about the drooling - but the feelings between them where not well depicted, I guess.
Brain: Well, they were high-school sweethearts, so the feelings were there all those years.
Heart: Fair enough, but what about now? Garrett’s mind was always in the gutter, and I expected more swooning, more moments to make me sigh and dream and see, with my own eyes, that they belong together, but it never happened.
Brain: You have to admit, though, Emma Chase writes the best male POVs!
Heart: Of course she does, she’s a Queen and we’re her loyal subjects! Getting Schooled was an entertaining, lighthearted second-chance romance, and we had a blast, didn’t we?
Brain:

Brain: ...
Heart: Earth to Brain, what’s going on?
Brain: I just realized that we switched parts! Usually you’re the one who insists on the higher rating and I am arguing about it!
Heart: Are you saying that I am the mature, wise one and you’re frivolous and spontaneous and ruled by your primitive urges?

Brain: And just like that, we're back on track.

Narrator: Some things don't change, after all.

STORY OVERVIEW AND REVIEW:

Reading (or in this case, listening to) Getting Schooled by Emma Chase is like watching a person fit puzzle pieces perfectly together. There's a sense of fulfillment and content in listening to this story, one that warrants a sigh of pleasure. It's full of wonderful characters, humor, emotion, and depth. The voices of her characters spoke loud and true, and you will love them for it. I have always loved Emma Chase's words—it's smart, witty, and addictive. Getting Schooled has all of that in spades.

Garrett Daniels and Callaway Carpenter fell in love in high school, and thought they would be together forever. You'd look at them and know it's not puppy love. But distance and time apart put an end to their relationship, and they both move on with their lives—Callie in San Diego trying to make her way into the theater world, and Garrett back at home coaching his old school's football team to the top.

An incident Callie would rather not think about ever again makes her move back to her parents' house in New Jersey. She takes a temporary job at her old high school as the substitute teacher, and there she reunites with the love of her life. Garrett Daniels, golden boy and former star athlete of their school, is now the football coach of the team. They finally get their second chance more than a decade later at the very same place where it all began.

I knew from the moment Garrett and Callie talked to each other again that they were meant to be. Without a doubt. Everything about their relationship felt real to me. It was so heartwarming to see them feel and act so at ease with each other even after being apart for so long. They are each other's person. Whether they're laughing, making love, or breaking apart, it brought a tug to my heart that rarely happens when I read books. And I read a lot. I loved this couple that much.

While Garrett and Callie's reunion was central to the story, I love that Getting Schooled also highlighted what it's like to be a teacher. It was interesting to see their train of thought, the efforts they did to reach their students, their frustrations and hurt, and the joy of seeing their students grow and learn. It added so much to the story without stealing the spotlight from the romance.

WHAT DID YOU LIKE ABOUT THE AUDIOBOOK?

Aside from the story, the narrators were fantastic! I'm a huge fan of Andi Arndt, so it's not really surprising that she did a wonderful job here. I've only listened to Zachary Webb a few times, but it still blows my mind how amazing of a narrator he is. He's amazing in acting out not just Garrett, but every single person in this book. I've never been so entertained by a narrator as much as Zachary Webber.

These two wonderful narrators brought to life a story that is already strong on its own.

This is definitely one of the most enjoyable audiobooks I've listened to. The emotions and imagery were so vivid that I felt like I was in their world. I saw the football games, sat with the students in class, watched front row as Garrett and Callie got their second chance. I laughed out loud, smiled like a complete idiot, and cried. By the end of it, I felt so full. I was ready to burst with love and emotion.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND THIS AUDIOBOOK TO A FRIEND? IF SO, WHY?

Absolutely! Romance fans will enjoy this wonderfully written second chance story. It has everything I could possibly want in an audiobook, and I'm sure audiophiles and audiobook virgins alike would agree.

I ache when I look at him. Ache to stay, ache for him to follow…ache to keep whatever this is between us long after the end of the school year. But does he want that too? And if he does…what does that even look like with Garrett in New Jersey and me in California?

GETTING SCHOOLED is a sexy and funny story about two high school sweethearts who after nearly two decades apart, get a second chance to get it right. Emma Chase has been one of my top favorite authors since I read ”TANGLED”. Her writing and sense of humor is the bomb dot com! If you read this one you’ll get that little joke. But seriously, if you’re a huge fan of this author as I am, then you’re going to fall in love with Garrett and Callie’s story.

Callie Carpenter finds herself back in her hometown of Lakeside, New Jersey, after having lived out in California for nearly twenty years. She was accepted to the University of San Diego and right after High School, she moved to the west coast which is where her career has kept her. She had to put her career on hold and rush back home when both of her parents were injured in a car accident. She ends up getting a job as the substitute theater teacher at her local high school in order to be able to pay her bills back home. On her first day, she will run into the one man who her heart hasn’t been able to let go of in all of the years she’s been away…Garrett Daniels.

Garrett was the high school’s star quarterback and he and Callie were the ”IT” couple. They were inseparable and when life took them in different directions and put them on opposite ends of the country, they decided to part ways. It was a heartbreaking decision and nearly two decades later, neither of them has found a new love to move on with. As luck would have it, they’re both single. The two strike up an easy friendship as if no time has passed. Before they know it, Garrett and Callie are picking up right where they left off back in their high school days.

The end of the school year is fast approaching and when it does, Callie will be returning to her life in San Diego. Garrett is the well respected and loved high school football coach and history teacher. Twenty years later they’re both faced with the same dilemma. Their lives are on opposite sides of the country. But this time around they know what they have is a once in a lifetime type of love. Will they be able to say goodbye this second time around?

No rating, I didn't finish but also, I feel extremely bad because Emma Chase is one of my all time favorite authors and I don't think I've ever rated any book of hers less than 5 stars...

This book certainly is well written and has laugh out loud funny parts, something that I come to expect from this author, but I lost interest in the two main characters somewhere at 80% mark. These two reconnected sexually but I've never felt an emotional connection. Things were "told" to me and not "shown" when it came to their relationship.

I'm sure a lot of readers will like this book just fine but for me, the best part was the high school setting and the interactions between students and teachers, while I, unfortunately, struggled to connect with the mcs.

She was the love of my life, before I had any idea what love was . . . and then, still, even after I did.

Oh my heart! My cold black heart! It's so full right now. I don't know how to even begin to describe all of the ways I loved this book! I laughed, I swooned, I cried, and I fell head over heels for Garrett and Callie's story.
You were always my girl, Callie. Even after you weren’t any more.”

I love a second chance romance, and Getting Schooled delivered one heart felt and steamy story full of humor and plenty of feels.

Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts and then life happened and they went their different ways in college. But now that Callie is back in her hometown following her parents' accident, they discover that old feelings didn't die, but with the right chance have bloomed into something much bigger.

When Callie gets a job as a teacher at the same school they once both attended and Garrett teaches at, it's not long before they bump into each other. With their breakup being when they were still kids, it's not difficult for them to re-start their friendship as adults. And it's also not long before they both realize that their not so long forgotten feelings are so much more potent when they're older and understand exactly the love that they once shared.
And that’s how we start. That’s how we begin. How we become us . . . again.

I loved the secondary characters in this story. With Callie's quirky parents, the other teachers that they work with, the students and Callie's friends, it was absolute perfection. I felt like I was inside their lives. They practically jumped at the pages at you and it just engrained you that much more in the story.

Beyond that, I absolutely adored the progression and pacing of Garrett and Callie's romance. It wasn't full of angst and miscommunication but it wasn't perfect either. It was real, and wonderful, and oh so swoony. It brought all the feels and I couldn't' get enough of it.
My memories of loving Garrett are pale and flimsy compared to this. This is real and solid . . . and us. How did I breathe without this? How will I exist without it?

There were so many notable moments in this book; with one particular one that had me sobbing with emotion one minute and then crying happy tears the next. I loved everything about this book. I originally listened to the audio version of this book (which was fantastic) and then reading it just made me realize how wonderful this story really was. I was glued to the pages and completely captivated all over again. I can't recommend it enough and can't wait for more in this brand new series!

Review & Excerpt at Of Pens and Pages.

There's no awkwardness, or hesitation. We've been here before. Our lips, our hands, and our hearts remember."

Like Garrett and Callie, my reunion with Getting Schooled by Emma Chase was sweeter the second time around. I listened to the audiobook a few months ago and loved it, so it’s not really a surprise that I loved the book just as much. It’s smart, witty, addictive, and full of wonderful characters, humor, emotion, and depth.

An incident brings Callie Carpenter back to her hometown, and back to her high school sweetheart’s path. While in town, she takes a temporary job at her old high school where Garrett Daniels, golden boy and former star athlete of their school, is now the football coach of the team. They finally get their second chance more than a decade later at the very same place where it all began.

It was such a joy to read this book! Second chance romances, when done right, make my heart go a-flutter. This one definitely did. I liked that the angst wasn’t too heavy (don’t get me wrong, it had its moments) and I love love loved the maturity between Callie and Garrett. They know what they want, how they feel, and they’re not afraid to talk about it. No unnecessary drama here, thank you very much. As amicable a break up can be, there can be lingering hurts waiting to surface, and honestly, that’s what I enjoy the most in stories like this.

These two are perfect for each other, and I believed every second of reading this that they were meant to be. It was in the way they interacted with each other—like a decade of being apart didn’t pass at all—looked at each other, and leaned on each other. Cue lovesick sighing.

This story does not just highlight the beauty of second chances, but the colorful life of being a teacher, mentor, and guardian as well. It was interesting to see their train of thought, the efforts they did to reach their students, their frustrations and hurt, and the joy of seeing their students grow and learn. It added so much to the story without stealing the spotlight from the romance.

I can’t recommend this story enough! Getting Schooled has characters you’ll fall in love with, great chemistry and banter, equal shares of sweet, funny, steamy and tear-jerking moments, and a romance that will warm your heart.

➳Such a funny and cute story, filled with lots of fun times and a chance for a second chance at getting back your one true-soul mate...

➳As my very first audio-book, I found this one interesting since I adore her writing but I guess I am not used to audio-books so I couldn't enjoy it one hundred percent. The process of listening to this audio book actually took me longer than the average of a regular book read from my kindle. but overall I enjoyed it and hopefully I can read the actual ebook or PB once it comes out!

“And welcome to the jungle, baby. Just when you think you’re out . . . your parents’ BJ pulls you back in, amiright?”

What can I say about the new story that Emma Chase has offered us?

FUNNY
ROMANTIC
SWEET
ADORABLE
SEXY

A typical romantic comedy like only Emma Chase can write. I have to admit that there is no book by this author that I don't love. I know that when I want to have a great time and to laugh and experience light-hearted feelings, then her books are the best.

I loved that the story takes place at school premises and most characters are teachers. Besides the teenage hormones of the students, the teachers also behave like adolescents. They goof around, they gossip, they hide from the principal. Good times.

Garrett Daniels and Callie Carpenter.
I loved the two main characters. When they were younger they thought that they would be together forever. But then life happened. They got separated and now the former high school star quarterback has become a teacher and coach at the same school. And his former sweetheart now lives on the other side of the country.

“You were always my girl, Callie. Even after you weren’t any more.”

I loved the secondary characters. Callie's hippy parents are adorable. And these two and their little car “accident” will become the reason for Callie to come back to Lakeside as a teacher and meet Garrett again. The old sparkle and flame are still apparently there.

Now Callie and Garrett are older, wiser, more ready than ever to be together again. Maybe they needed some time apart to realise that they belong together.

“I have feelings for him. I always have … But these aren’t just left over echoes of a sweet first love. This is something new. A throbbing, breathless attraction to the amazing man he’s become. I want to be near him, to know him, inside and out all over again.
And he feels the same way. Garret wants this version of me as much as he always did. Maybe even more.”

Let's celebrate second chances! Enjoy!

Getting Schooled is second-chance romance at it's finest. Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts and thought they were destined to be together forever until life came in and proved them wrong. Now years later they're back where they started, in the towns high school, but this time as teachers. Even after years of not seeing each other, though, their connection is still there and Garrett is determined to not let Callie slip through his fingers this time.

This book was a little bit of everything. We got that High school angst which, while I'm usually not fan, I actually liked what it added to this story since it wasn't really involved with the main characters, and then we got the sweetness of Garrett and Callie falling back into each others arms after so long. I really liked the combination of everything and how it came together. There were a few things that I just didn't see the point of being in the book since they didn't add anything to the story, at least not for me, but they didn't bother me too much and didn't take my focus away from the main characters.

Overall this was a pretty light read without an overabundance of drama and instead Emma Chase gave the perfect amount of page time to these characters with not too many distractions from them. It was very enjoyable to be able to just sit down and read a well written romance with some great characters and a good dose of intrigue.

I got this one on release day, and when I found myself stuck at an airport 8 hours from home and eventually had to rent a car to drive home I knew exactly what I would listen to during my drive!

You can’t go wrong with Emma Chase, her books are always the perfect balance between funny, sexy and romantic with a little angst thrown in the mix. Her stories are always original, solid and highly entertaining and will definitely keep you hooked all the way through. And her male POVs are hands down some of the best. And who better to bring this audiobook to life than the amazing Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt! They both simply shine in this one. I’m a huge Zachary fan, I mean, that voice is pure Audio Porn. I’m convinced that if he narrates it, I will listen.

This is a second chance romance with solid characters, no unnecessary drama and adults acting like adults, in other words, my jam. Loved it to pieces and absolutely recommend!!!

Oh my heart, I loved this book so freaking much. Every single thing about it gave me deliciously giddy feels. My heart smiled the entire time, except in those moments when it ached and when it cried. The romance in Getting Schooled is absolutely EVERYTHING. It's so heartwarming, so satisfying, so joyful. It made me want to pump my fist in the air as I read. But there's so much more to this story than just the central romance between a football coach and the newly hired drama teacher who also happens to be his high school sweetheart. It's a heartfelt story of what it means to coach and educate, to guide a future generation and instill confidence in them while they're struggling with teenage angst and social issues. It's about family and friendship and the humor and heartache that connects all of them. And, of course, it's an unforgettable love story between characters that I just adored.

I loved every facet of this book, every layer, every side character. And I loved how much I was made to feel through the powerhouse narration of Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt. We've been saying it for years: Emma Chase writes the male POV like no one else around. The voice she gives all of her characters is utter perfection, but the voice she gives her heroes has placed her on a pedestal since the days of Drew Evans. But the added perk of this book being released first as an audiobook is that the already vivid voice she gives her characters through her lush writing style are ratcheted up exponentially by what these narrators bring to the table. It's just PHENOMENAL. A marriage made in ROMANCE NOVEL HEAVEN, that's what this is.The stunningly superb writing of Emma Chase meeting the wholly intoxicating voices of Webber and Arndt? What's born from that union is an unforgettable, all consuming reading experience that I NEVER WANTED TO END.

I loved the love story between Garrett and Callie. It's a second chance romance between two characters who are so obviously made for each other but whose lives took them in two different directions after high school. But years later, they find themselves brought back together again by a hilarious course of events, their reunion evolving against the backdrop of the very same high school in the same small town where they fell in love as teenagers. It's so smart and incredibly refreshing what Chase creates with this premise. What I loved most about it was how much I related to it. Not only can I easily relate to the joys and frustrations of working with students that are sometimes selfish, sometimes unkind, often insecure, sometimes troubled, but I laughed out loud throughout this story and furiously nodded with understanding as Garrett struggled to call his old teachers by their first names now that he worked alongside them. This book is a beautiful depiction of what it's like to work with students, how your heart both soars and breaks for them, how frustrating and rewarding it can all be, but it's also warm and funny. This is everything you want in a feel good romance.

Getting Schooled is DELICIOUSLY sexy, full of heart and humor, and it's peppered perfectly with just the right amount of angst and uncertainty, breaking my heart and putting it all back together in the most unexpected ways. Callie and Garrett are so right together, so sweet, so good. I loved them and I felt every nuance of their love and their longing through the superb narration in this audiobook. Exquisite storytelling and wickedly smart writing is elevated by the PERFECT voice of these narrators and it all comes together in this magnificent package of romance and palpable emotion. Getting Schooled is a new favorite of the year for me. It's so well done, so unforgettable and I'll be listening again and again. I absolutely LOVED IT.

“She was the love of my life, before I had any fucking idea what love was . . . and then, still, even after I did.”

description

Some of my favorite things:

1. Books with teachers as an MC
2. Second chance romances
3. Basically any hero Emma Chase has created or will ever create
4. Garrett freaking Daniels
5. THIS BOOK

Garrett presses a kiss against my ear, my jaw, my mouth—gentle now—and my heart feels swollen with tenderness for him. “We’re so fucking good at that,” he whispers.
“We were always good at that,” I tell him.
His lips slide slowly into a cocky, arrogant smile that also happens to be gorgeous. “We got better at it.”
I laugh. He slips his hands beneath my head, cradling me in his arms. And it’s perfect.

Can Emma Chase write a bad book? I think not. And what I love most about her work is her heroes. Always funny, always romantic, always perfection.

This book world is saturated with dark, angst-filled romance. And while that’s fine and well, sometimes you just need something that’s a fun, uplifting romance to brighten your mood or day. Something that puts a smile on your face from page one that doesn’t go away until you finish. I personally think a REALLY GOOD “light” romance is actually hard to find. I don’t always need conflict, angst, build up, etc. Sometimes I just want a sweet story with realistic characters I love.

Emma consistently writes these feel good books that always stand out. I’ve yet to read a book from her I didn’t absolutely adore, and I’m already craving whatever she has coming up next!

“They say you can’t go home again . . . but they’re wrong. I did. I came home and found the love I never really lost.”

It's ok, I kind of liked it.

It is definitely a very sweet and cute book. However, it is not exactly the kind of romance I want to read.

The first 50% of the book is mostly detail after detail about the 2 protagonists' lives, about their families, them being teachers at their high-school, about their students, futbol practice, theatre classes, and such. Personally, that is not the kind of story I am looking for. I wanted more about their relationship, their romance. There is basically non of that until maybe the las 25% of the book. There is no getting in love first part, because the characters are already in love from the past, and what they do is rekindle that love. I really like to read about the falling in love part, but I didn’t get to here.
The same with emotional conflicts. Not until that last part, do we get any emotional aspects, ant it is not really related to their actual romance and relationship, but to other aspects of their lives, except for a short conversation that we get about their past and that is in no way sufficient enough. There is no angst or drama, and I am a deep level emotional junkie, so I couldn’t get my fix in this book.

Because of all of the above, I can't say this is my kind of novel, and thus I wound't really recommend it. I struggled with the first half of the book and I almost DNF it. All through that first 50% of the story there was too much information I wasn't interested in.

Then there is the resolution. The book ends with a very textbook, sweet HEA. The whole book is very ideal, the characters are very nice people, their love is very smooth, the guy is super sweet and perfect, and the end is idilic. It is all very cute.

I think many readers would find this story comforting, light and sweet. Personally, I need my darkness and juicy bits to fully be satisfied with a book. This was way too seemly for me.

P.S: I don’t think the cover fits this story or genre. It is way off.

GETTING SCHOOLED: Is the first romance book in the ‘Getting Some’ by Emma Chase. In this we meet Garrett Daniels & Callie Carpenter. Spoken in dual perspectives.

You were always my girl, Callie, even after you weren't any more.

Amongst the urban legends in Lakeside New Jersey Garrett Daniels resides and he's one big deal, not only is he a history teacher at the local school but he's also the head coach of one of the best football teams in the state. Life's good, he's got his trusty dog Snoopy, the albino beagle by his side, whose his best friend, what more could a guy ask for? He's happy just to coast through life without attachments.

Then we meet Callie Carpenter, she'd just gotten her dream job as the new executive director in San Diego, but all that flew out the window when she got a phone call from her sister begging her to come home and help take care of their elderly parents who had each broken a leg.

Callie is that girl, the one girl that Garrett let slip through his fingers, now she's back in his home town taking a temporary job in the theater department at the same high school Garret teaches at.
They were the IT couple back in highschool, he was the star quarter back and she was the theater queen. They broke up when she went away to college and he stayed behind, their relationship didn't survive the distance, and their relationship suffered because of it, but it was an amicable break up.

Things should've been awkward between these two, but that's where I was wrong, it wasn't, the same attraction they had for each other back in high school was still there many years later.

"I missed you," I whisper.
"I didn't even know how much...
Until you came back."

That undeniable bond they had back then, that connection, that true love they felt, that was just simmering away in the background waiting to ignite and ignite it did.

For a second chance romance this was one of my favourite ones, I giggled so hard, swooned harder, but loved more, this book brought out all the feels, but the giggles just kept coming and coming. A light fluffy book that had me hooked from the very first page.

Highly recommend!! 👍

READ MY REVIEW ON THE BLOG

I read Tangled a long time ago. I remember loving it and that it was written solely from the male character's point of view. So I'm a bit at a loss why I never picked up Emma Chase again. Audiobooks make it so much easier to catch up on your TBR so I figured, with two of my favorite narrators, Zach Webber and Andi Arndt, performing GETTING SCHOOLED I had no excuse to not read another book by this author.

There is something immensely attractive and endearing about a cocky guy with the reputation of a women connoisseur who is head over heels in love with his high school sweetheart. That's exactly what Garrett is. He is the history teacher you always wanted to have. He has charm in abundance, is smart, not just in life but with the kids he is teaching and he has a warmth I found incredibly alluring. Garrett is one of a kind and I fell in love from the first moment. How he held on to his love for Callie over the years, that he never forgot her yet lived his life...he just amazed me.
They say you can’t go home again... but they’re wrong.
I did.
I came home and found the love I never really lost.

Callie is his female counter piece. She was thrown into a situation and didn't just make the best of it, she shone.

This story has so much warmth, love and humor - I totally felt at home in Lakeside, New Jersey. I wanted to be part of this charming small town and I can honestly say, if I could go back to school I totally would if it had teachers like Garrett and Callie. With them comes an array of pretty wonderful side characters - especially Dean, Garrett's best friend was a hoot.

The depth of emotion and the strong connection the two main characters had came really through Emma Chase's words. While Garrett and Callie's relationship was basically drama-free it wasn't without a little heartbreak along the way but that's what made it more real, even more relatable. My heart totally broke for them although I knew that soon they'd have their happiness back soon. Because that's  the way these two were. And there wasn't any other way around it. They were perfection!
My memories of loving Garrett are pale and flimsy compared to this. This is real and solid . . . and us. How did I breathe without this?

Zach Webber and Andi Arndt have done an outstanding job performing these two main characters and all the side characters. They really brought them to life and I have to say there is a constant growth with these two. They just get better and better with each book they narrate.

If you love a great second chance romance, stories that make you feel good and laugh, swoon, and get the tiniest bit teary-eyed you can't go wrong with Getting Schooled. It left me with a goofy smile on my face and my heart full.
She was the love of my life, before I had any fucking idea what love was... and then, still, even after I did.

Off I go to read Totally Screwed!

5 steamy second chance stars🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

This fabulous book is currently only available as an audible exclusive..... so if you are late to the audio party this is a fabulous chance to get started.... brilliant narration from both Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt two of the best.... A fabulous sexy second chance love story from Emma Chase The queen of the male point of view.... although I would strongly recommend earbuds if your young children are around... or any of your children for that matter....

Garrett is a hometown hero, the exstar of the high school football team in a small town and now back coaching a winning team...Callie has returned home from California, to help take care of her parents while they recover from an amusing accident.... Garrett and Callie were high school sweethearts.... who broke up due to distance... neither has truly got over the other or had any type of other serious relationship.... the spark is still there, but what will happen when Callie goes back to California?

Garrett and Callie were such fabulous characters, you just really wanted things to work out for these two.... Garrett really was the perfect guy, just the right mixture of cocky and kind....Callie is the kind of girl you want to be friends with, she is fun, sassy, and smart.... The attraction between them was so strong.... something Emma Chase does very well is she doesn’t just tell you she makes you feel....

Another part of this book I truly enjoyed was the setting in the high school.... I thought the teenagers were so well portrayed... and the relationship between student and teenager was so spot on... and positive and that was nice to see.... oh yeah forgot to mention that Garrett is also a high school history teacher and Callie is teaching theater for the year that she is home.... so the students play a very important part in this love story....

Absolutely recommend to all lovers of romance💕 and I strongly encourage you to listen on audio🎧 Zachary Webber and Andi Arndt Bring such life to these characters💑*** i’d like to thank the author and audible for a copy of this book ***

They both have other partners during separation, but the first girl he sleeps with is the heroine's nemesis. Ughh, yuck! That's a big no in my romance novels. I wouldn't/couldn't get past it. He is a douche-bag!

In this contemporary romance, Emma Chase makes ample use of high school lore to craft a delightfully sweet, fun and sexy second chance story.

Not only does Garret Daniels love his job as an adored high school football coach, he has his life figured out. Stay single, enjoy his awesome house with his best friend Snoopy. That is until he spots his old flame walking across the school parking lot and his life tilts sideways, both literally and figuratively.

Callie Carpenter was celebrating her new dream job when she received news about her having to help parents recuperate from an awkwardly embarrassing accident. Flying back home across country wasn’t in her plans, neither was substitute teaching at her old high much less rekindling her feelings toward Garret. Youth, time and distance crushed their love once. They’ve grown now, but can their love survive geography?

From the moment they set eyes on each other you could feel the pull between them, the familiarity only developed through shared experiences and the love that grows with time come back as making time and space irrelevant. Throughout the novel though, they re-introduce themselves to their new grown up selves and fall in love deeper than they ever would have imagined.

Chase also delves into the world of high school teachers effortlessly, accurately showing teenage self-doubt and their desire to be heard and understood and the importance of having good role models to help them on their way to adulthood.

Getting Schooled is a book about friendship, first love and second chances. Both Garret and Callie are loveable protagonists and their romance was addicting. Every page is rife with humor, swoon worthy romance and heartwarming moments.

Getting Schooled is a second chance, small town standalone contemporary romance by Emma Chase. It’s a great feel-good addition to your romance collection. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.

Garrett and Callie’s second chance story was beautifully written. The plot was interesting and funny. The MC’s personalities were fleshed out well. The felt distinct and unique with just enough flaw and vulnerability.

I enjoyed Garrett’s perspective on his students and the way he balanced being a cool teacher with being an authority figure in their lives. I enjoyed Callie’s building passion for teaching and how she found her calling while rekindling their love.

I found myself engaged by the story and characters. The epilogue was super cute and overall I got to experience a great story. Safety: There were others while they were apart but none that engaged their heart. No others while they are together. No rape or abuse.

Complimentary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.

Wow! but that was good. I would like to say my favourite from Emma, but damn I love all of her books, so I can't. But so very very good.

Small town second chance romance with high school sweethearts after 16 years apart.

Sweet, swoony, cocky, funny, sexy hero and super cool ( as I want her for to be my BFF) heroine.

Wonderful, warm and fuzzy love story. Delicious. Do yourselves a favour and don't wait for an ebook, get it on audio cause Zachary Webber... duh...

I finished this 7 hrs plus audiobook within two days.
I don’t have time to read any books but I can listen audio version while I was working.

It was a pleasant story, it wasn’t boring but nothing special either.
However, the way Ms. Chase wrote his male characters made her book stand out a little bit.
Unfortunately there are very typical stereotypes that made me give this one 3 stars instead of 4 stars rating.

After they separated, off course the hero banged absolutely everyone included the heroine high school’s friend/enemy, yuck!! 🤢
Yes, she had other relationships too but at least not his friends/enemies 🙄.

But what made me really pissed off, why she, the one who have a fantastic career have to give it all up for him who have a cozy career?
Especially after he didn’t mind to leave it behind for her?
What’s wrong with him following her then return to their hometown sometimes in the future after she enjoyed her fabulous career first? What’s is wrong with that? It looks like those teaching career will always there for them anyway, while her career is kind of one in a millions?

I don’t bloody buy any explanation about why we should share the heroine’s happiness in leaving her fantastic career behind at all.

My goodness me she fight for 18 years for it and now when she just got it she leave it all behind for him? While he didn’t mind to following her?

What the hell Ms. Chase?

I don’t want my girl read Ms. Chase’s book when she is grown up! Urgh!! 😠😤

Getting Schooled is a sweet second chance romance story about former high school sweethearts Callie Carpenter and Garrett Daniels. They're known as an "it" couple in their small town, both were very much in love and inseparable. However, Callie and Garrett broke up during college and took different paths in life. It's a mutual breakup and both of them focused on their careers.

Things have changed over the years. Garrett's injury ended his career in football but he found love with History. He's now a high school football coach and a teacher in his hometown. While Callie was newly promoted executive director in a theatre company at San Diego. Until a situation calls for Callie to return home and take care of her parents and takes an opportunity in her high school as a part-time teacher. As fated, she and Garrett crossed paths again.

Their love story was more beautiful for the second time around. Garrett and Callie matured since they've split up. In spite of changes and realizations, these two are just meant to be. They're still in love after all these years and this long overdue reunion was more sweeter and more romantic. GOO-GOO EYES AND ALL. I SWOONED. OMG I LOVE THEM.😍😭

I admire these two as teachers too. They're passionate, career-oriented and influential byeaching their students with great values and help them bring out their best potentials. The most fulfilling moment of a teacher was to see their students successful. Overall, this is another hit from Emma Chase. Simple, cute and romantic.

This is my first book for #Smutathon: Second Chance Romance
