Their Shade is book four in the Daughters of Olympus series by Charlie Hart and Anastasia James. Charlie Hart is a pen name of Frankie Love’s. In this installment we meet the fourth sister, Tennyson, the Daughter of Hades, the God of the Underworld. Also, things start to come together in this one in preparation of the final book.
Tennyson has been in Styx since she was four years old. Styx is the great in-between, sort of like Purgatory. It’s not Earth and it’s not the Underworld. It’s where souls go before they travel to their final resting place. When most people arrive, they stay maybe a few hours or days. But Tennyson’s been there for seventeen years. And she has actually aged since she arrived which has never happened She has no idea why she is different than everyone else there.
“We’re four lost souls, but we’ve found the way home in one another.”
Tennyson’s best friends are Hawthorne, who has been here as long as she has, and South and Lennox. They do everything together. She loves all three of these men but hasn’t allowed her feelings to be known. Lately she has seen them fading, meaning they are leaving. She can’t risk a broken heart. Only now they have proclaimed their love for her, that they want more from her. They have ruined everything.
“I won’t hurt the ones I love with all my heart. I can’t bear to be with them as we all lose each other.”
One of the three men has been keeping a secret from Tennyson. A secret that could change everything. How can he proclaim his love when he’s been lying all this time?
“I don’t even know what I was before you, before us. I just know what I am when I am with you. Yours.”
A stranger arrives in Styx and needs help. As soon as Tennyson touches him, she feels a connection, that he is somehow important to her. He tells her that her sisters need her help, tells her she is the daughter of the Underworld. That without her, the Earth will certainly perish. That she must save their birth mother.
If you remember, Tennyson was Lark’s sister from the previous book. Everything is coming together now and in the final book, Their Goddess, we will get their mother’s story.
This is book #4 chapter in the tales of the Daughters of Olympus. If you haven’t already, I’d recommend you read the other books before starting this one.
Okay, let me just get this off my chest right away! When I'm wrong I don't mind admitting it, so here we go: I WAS WRONG I actually thought their mother would be Aphrodite. Yes, all that talk about love fooled me. So a big thank you to Charlie Hart & Anastasia James for creating such a clever spin!
Plot: This book focuses on the fourth sister, Tennyson, who lives at the river Styx with 3 friends: South, Lennox & Hawthorne. Unlike the others, Tennyson has basically grownup at the river and doesn't straight away remember her past. We quickly learn, that Tennyson shares her sisters stubbornness, and fear of opening yourself up to others. However, after meeting Eric (Harlow's lost love) Tennyson is forced to re-think her priorities and sees that it's better to have loved and lost, than live in regret.
Personal view:The only reason I won't give the book 5 stars is that, awesome as it is, it feels like something is missing! The sex scenes seem very rushed (okay, they are on a timer set by Charon,to catch the ferry) but also forced. It seems more like an unrehearsed forced act, than an act of love and desire. It's also a bit over and done with that the daughter is a stubborn heart guarding virgin, who looses her v-card in a steamy orgy. Lark and Tennyson has been a bit different, but at the same time their stories are all very much alike.
I can't wait for the "epic conclusion" Their Goddess but I am kind of thinking if this is just her story, it's a big of a let down. Personally, I want to see all the sisters together. I want to see Lark and Tennyson reunited. So here's hoping! :-)
3.25 Stars I liked this installment in the Daughters of Olympus series. It was fast paced and the time just flew by while reading it. There were a few plot twists that I did not see coming and that completely shocked me. With that being said, I did have a few issues with this book. Mainly being that it was entirely too small. This was the smallest installment yet and there was just not enough time in it to provide a good and thorough story. This book felt rushed and there were barely any details at all. Every time a scene would start, it would change within a few paragraphs and there was never enough time to get invested in what was happening. I felt like the character development for Tennyson was not there at all. Tenny is mentioned in Their Phoenix and after reading the brief glimpse of her that I got, I was expecting her to be the most interesting female main character that we've had yet. Instead, Tennyson was completely flat and I was extremely disappointed with her development. If I am being completely honest, I felt like Tenny's men were more developed than she was even though the majority of this book was spent in her point of view. We even got full scale insights into each of the boys' backgrounds. I understand that most of Tennyson's life has been spent in Styx and she doesn't really have a background before that. That is completely fine and I am okay with that. If Charlie Hart and Anastasia James couldn't provide a background on Tenny, they should have made her personality very interesting and unique. Instead, Tenny was very flat and her character was just disappointing. She had a lot of potential being who she is and I felt like she was portrayed in a way that was a complete waste. Overall, I enjoyed this book. While I was disappointed with it, there were still parts of it that I really liked. I will be reading the next and final book, Their Goddess . I just hope that is developed more than Tennyson was.
Their Shade is the fourth book in the Daughters of Olympus Series and it focuses on the fourth sister, Tennyson. Tennyson lives in Styx and has known since she first arrived that she’s different. Since arriving when she was four, she’s found three best friends who own her heart, and apparently she owns all of theirs as well. But things are changing, and they are fading... fast. With the arrival of a stranger, her day quickly changes her entire course of her life, with her three men by her side, truths shining through, and questions answered. But will her quest allow for true love to conquer all?
Oh my goodness, this series has been so unique and amazing, and this book did not disappoint! I loved Tennyson, Hawthorne, Lennox, and South! Their dynamic was friendship first which lead to love, with a strong dose of lust and add in a bunch of respect and admiration. I loved some of the secrets that were revealed, such as who their mother was and how Hawthorne had been with Tennyson the whole time and never faded. I loved the special guest from a previous book and the important of Tennyson’s sacrifice for her sister. Her men were just as courageous and loving, supportive and protective as Tennyson was of them. I loved reading this book and can’t wait for the final book in the series!
Book 4 of the daughters of Olympus and wow I didn't realise it could get any better than the other three. This book is about Tennyson, shade, a young women who finds herself in the Styx or pergatory at a young age, along with Hawthorne who meets her as a 4 year old, Lennox and young man who died from cancer and south who was shot from a street crime that he wasn't involved in. These are her men but she is scared and they have told her they love her. I teared up when I read about Eric from the first book finding Tennyson and telling her of the mission she needs to go on.
This book had me with tears in my eyes, awwwing and thoroughly enjoying this read from start to finish. My heart was in my mouth as we find out that Hades is her dad but what will he do? Will he try to kill her like the other dad's did with their daughters? I definitely can't wait for book 5 to see what having her four daughter back together and their men is going to do. A magnificent book and fantastic writing. I received this book as an advanced reader copy
I received an ARC copy of this book. I read this all in one sitting and I have to say... This series keeps getting better with each book released. I think this was my favorite out of all the Daughters of Olympus books. There was so much love between Ten and her guys. This book was just as fast paced as the previous three, but the characters proclaiming their love didn't feel as rushed or instantaneous as the other ones because they had known each other for a while beforehand. It felt more natural. A certain someone from book one showed up as well and it made me so happy. If you were upset about how things at the end of book one went down, this book will make up for it. Harlow, Remedy, Lark, and Tennyson's mother is also revealed in this installment and I can't wait to read her story (the final book) and find out how she and her daughters ended up separated.
This was the fourth book in the Daughters of Olympus series and I really enjoyed it. Quick note, this series does need to be read in order so if you haven't read the first three yet do that first. Its a great series! This one is a bit different in that it almost entirely takes place in the underworld. This daughter is up against something more difficult any of the others have faced. Plus, we finally found out who their mother is!! Great book and I CANNOT wait till the next book. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book. Hero, Hawthorne, Lennox and South = 5/5 Heroine, Tennyson = 5/5 Chemistry = 5/5 Sex = 5/5 Plot = 4/5 Mystery = 4/5 Action = 2/5 Darkness = 3/5 Humor = 2/5 POV = all four mains Would I recommend this book = yes Would I re-read this book = yes Would I read future books by this author = yes
This is the fourth book to this series. In this book we meet the final of the daughters Tennyson. She is a sassy character and quite different from her sisters. That could be because she has grown up in the Styx away from all the humans earth-side. We also meet the three loves of her life Hawthorne, South and Lennox. Each is different in his own way and each has a different back story but they all love her the same way.
We also have get a twist in the story which I didn't see coming but am happy with the outcome. Plus we finally find out who exactly their mother is.
If you haven't yet to read the other three books in this series you will need to do so or the book wont make complete sense. Looking forward to seeing what unfolds in the final book and how it will all end for these goddesses and their loves.
I liked the story of Tennyson a lot, and I was waiting for it as I was really curious what happened when she disappeared. She already is at the company of her men, but in the beginning they all seem to be only friends. It is really great - and quite emotional - how they find each other and how their feelings develop and become stronger and stronger. The story takes a turn when the misterious stranger arrives and brings some news from the upper world. From there things get faster, very exciting and even hot. I really liked the whole story, all the boys and Tennyson. I can't wait to see the end but in the same time I wish the series would be longer. I reviewed an ARC copy of the book voluntarily.
I received this book as an ARC for my review. Tennyson shows the reader what acts of love truly are in a couple different ways.
I do enjoy reading this series, but I do find myself lost with all the men for each sister. Each sister has a man named after a direction, which I thinking must have some sort of meaning.
I found it interesting that it wasn't Harlow, Remedy, and Lark that find the fourth sister Tennyson, but someone from an earlier book. And that it is Tennyson on her own who rescues their Mother. This one is also different in the fact she doesn't encounter her Father Hades, so there is no fight between them. No inprisioning of her Father like the other Sisters.
I am definitely looking forward to their Mother's story. So many questions I need answers to.
This is an interesting book 4. I think that book three was my favorite so far, but I did like it. Tenny was an okay main character. She was a little underwhelming as a character and wasn't my favorite of the sisters introduced, but I feel like she could grow on me. I like the guys in the story though. I like the loop that is given to you when it comes to Hawthorne and the past for the other two. Since the guys are dead and young, explaining how they had died. I think was vital and the ways that they did added so much complex detail to the guys. I have really enjoyed this series and look forward to the next book in the series. check out the complete review at underthebookmark.com
Things are getting good as we're getting closer to the conclusion of The Daughters of Olympus series. While the first 3 books had a wonderful sense of destiny to the love affairs, Tennyson's story is one that develops after a lifetime of friendship. Still steamy, and fast paced, I devoured this book in 3 hours. We finally find out who the girl's mother is and it gave what was needed to see that an epic conclusion is in the cards. It'll be a tough wait til book 5!
Just when you thought you "knew" your Greek Mythology, Charlie Hart & Anastasia James kick it up a notch! Olympus as you knew it, was just a fairytale, this....this is the "real" deal. Never mind the daughters, the Siren, the Wolf, the Phoenix, the Shade, and their men, Mom, Persephone, had 4, count them, four Greek Gods!! Poseidon, Ares, Zeus and Hades!! I COULD NOT PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! Truth!!! This was book 4, and book 5, Their Goddess is the clincher.......OMG, I can't wait!!!
Another amazing book in this series. This one is my personal favourite so far. I loved Tennyson along with her doubts, fears and determination. The whole underworld setting really appealed to me, I loved the take on Styx being a sort of purgatory, no Heaven, just the underworld with Hades or the Elysian fields..... The adaptation of greek mythology in this series is extremely well done. This one had me gripped all the way through.
This series loosely based on Greek mythology continues to be amazing. It's not deep and complicated, but there's just enough world building to get a good picture of the place these people live in. It's a little spooky, and very intriguing and steamy hot. I loved Tennyson's story and would love to see more. The other books in this series should be read in order so that you can follow the story better.
Their Shade is the fourth book in this series. This book follows Tennyson who is the sister we were introduced to in Theor Phoenix in flashbacks. This story resolves things from the previous books and we get to finally find put who the mother is of these four powerful women. You want to know who? Get to reading!!!
The fourth book in this amazing series, this is Tennysons story and it is rather touching, I love how it ties in with the previous stories and we are heading towards the final instalment of the series
Set in the afterlife this story is a little different to the others, I really enjoyed this story and am loving the series
This is the fourth book in the series, and it just keeps getting better. As before, this book was gripping from the beginning. I read this book in one sitting: I just could not seem to be able to put it down. I really enjoyed this look into Tennyson and the men who love her. The men especially were very interesting to get to know. Overall, this book was fantastic, and I cannot wait for book 5.
loved this latest instalment and meeting Ten and her men. Found out what happened to her in her past and why she is where she is now. Would love to say more but don’t want to ruin it for others. Can’t wait to read the next book as so much is being revealed.
I Could not get enough f this Series and I Love all the Stories. Their Shade is the Fourth Book in this Series and It was Awesome. You keep on wanting more of reading the amazing stories.
I Cannot Recommend this Book Enough to Readers. Leave everything and pick up this book right now.
Fourth book in this series and I loved it plenty going on in the story mystery action chemistry all in this book can't wai for the next one this series is so good and it's best to read in order I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book
I've marked every release date on my calandar 😉 We all wonder about what else the Universe has in store for us but the Daughters of Olympus are what letting go of fear and living life on your terms looks like! Looking forward to the final book. Great series!
Two stars for loads of grammar mistakes. I was excited to continue reading about the sisters' journey, but I found the numerous easily-avoidable errors distracting from Tennyson's overall story. Shame on the editor!
I really did like, but I'm confused about the ending. It seems like there should be a second books because somethings were left floating in the air, but the rest of the series are about other characters. So, was that the ending? It felt like we ended at nothing.
This series, just when you think it can't get any better you get Their Shade and Tennyson, Hawthorne, Lennox and South bring it back from hell and smoke it. Their story is tragic, it is emotional and heartbreaking. It also is beautiful and shows strength. This was a brilliant addition to this series, especially with the inclusion of Eric. I cannot wait to read book five and see the mother's story and see why the fathers have such rage against their children.
This series keeps getting better and better. I truly couldn't put this installment down. If you loved the first 3 books, you will truly love this book.
Absolutely fantastic, loved this instalment of the daughters of Olympus. Only thing I would have wanted is a longer book, like its predecessors, I didn’t want it to end.
