Whiskey Undone

Rate this book
Two best friends follow a dangerous and seductive path in the final standalone novel of the bestselling Whiskey and Lies series from NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan.

Ainsley Harris has always kept a secret from her best friend. She’s stood by his side, helped him raise his daughter, and tried to keep her distance even though she’s been in love with him for years. She knows he has secrets of his own and she’s not willing to chance what they have on a possibility.

Loch Collins has hidden himself and his past from the world for good reason. Darkness always comes back to haunt those who fight against it, and he knows better than most. One night of temper, however, forces him to realize his true feelings for Ainsley—for better or worse.

But Loch’s former allies aren’t on his side anymore, and now not only is his life and the life of his daughter on the line, but Ainsley is in the crosshairs, as well. Together, two best friends must fight for each other and their small town, because Whiskey has never burned brighter. And danger, it seems, is ever lurking.

You can see this and other Reviews I have written along with various cover reveals, excerpts, and giveaways here Nadine's Obsessed with Books

As you may already know, if you follow my reviews, I am a fan of Carrie Ann Ryan's Contemporary Romances and this book, Whiskey Undone, is a perfect example of why. This is a Friends to Lovers story which is always a fun trope for me, I guess it's because I married my best friend so I can relate to it on a more personal level. While this book can be read as a standalone, it is the last book in the Whiskey and Lies series and will contain spoilers for the two previous books so I would suggest reading the books in order.

Loch and Ainsley have been best friends for years and Ainsley has been helping Loch raise his daughter, since her mother took off shortly after her birth. They have always said they were "Just Friends" but honestly you could feel the chemistry between the two in the first two books so I knew they were bound to get their HEA and I am soooooo happy they did.

This story had more than the romance between Loch and Ainsley, it had a Murder in the small town of Whiskey PA, it had break-ins, car crashes, and so much more. This story kept me on the edge of my seat and it wasn't only from the great writing I believe it was also from the great narration of Maxine Mitchell. I received an Advanced Readers Copy eBook version, but I purchased the audiobook and I am really glad I did. Maxine did a wonderful job with narrating the audiobook she definitely added another layer to the storytelling.

This book is easy to recommend to just about everyone, lovers of Contemporary Romance, Romantic Suspense, the Friends-to-Lovers Trope, even those that enjoy the DILF Trope. Happy Reading!!!

This is the third and final book of the series. Finally! We get to see what is going on between Loch and Ainsley. Both profess they are best friends and nothing more. What happens when they decide to cross the lines. Wow! Explosive!

Loch is so reserved. He doesn't feel like he deserves happiness and he really doesn't want to loose his best friend. Ainsley has had a soft spot for Loch since they were teens but her heart knows that he is the only one she could ever love. Loved how she found the courage to not only go for what she wanted but to encourage Loch to let down his barriers and do the same.

Lots of suspense and action in this one. A sweet little girl pulls on the heart strings. Lots of family time and an awesome eplilogue! Perfect wrap up of the series.

ARC REVIEW

Whiskey and Lies #3, YAY!!! Ainsley and Loch finally! This can be read as a standalone as with most of her Contemporary Romance. Loch and Ainsley have been best friends for over ten years, she's helped take care of Loch's daughter when Misty's mother abandoned her and she has always been there content to be his best friend always hoping she could be more. Loch has kept Ainsley in the friend zone because he always feared he never deserved a happy ending, always assuming that sex would ruin everything and she'd not only leave him but Misty too. But Loch can't stand the thought of her with anyone else and one night changes their entire relationship the night they give in to their desire. Unfortunately sex fries their brains, especially Loch's, and they became unable to communicate with each other and they start fighting. It wasn't the only life changing event to happen that night a dead body was discovered behind Loch's gym and now his past is coming back to get him.

Overall, another outstanding book by Carrie Ann Ryan. I love the Collins and the town of Whiskey. The book had a great epilogue, very nice HEA wrap up for the family. Third person perspective that switches between Ainsley and Loch so you do learn what Loch's deal is and understand where he's coming from. This is a very emotional story it does deal mostly with Ainsley and Loch's relationship and Loch's emotional issues. The external conflict is a doozie it was really intense there at the end, wow. As sad as I am to see this series end I am anxious for the upcoming series Ryan has planned.

Book 3 of whiskey and Lies series by Carrie Anne Ryan.
Loch is the typical older brother over protective and takes on a lot of responsibilities.
Ainsley is Loch BFF and has had a unrequited love for him for years until thing heat up between them and they both realise there’s more to them then friendship.
I really like that when things heat up between Loch and Ainsley they don’t just come together and fall into a happy pattern. They struggle with the change and Loch try’s to fix things but messes it up more between them.
I loved that Loch and Ainsley thought of Misty and she was always the main important fact between them.
I love this big hearted family and how close everyone is, great story and HEA.
I do think that the audio was better than reading book. The narrator Maxine Mitchell was ace and loved her expression of each character.

I have been waiting for Ainsley and Loch's tory since the beginning of the series..you could feel a story there and I couldn't wait to get my hands on this.
Loch is a growling, stubborn and very private man. He does his job and everything to support his family and his baby girl. He needs Ainsley in his life..but as a friend, safe and at a distance..until one night everything changed.
Ainsley has been in love with him for years but she is resigned to her role, that doesn't mean he gets to walk all over her. I love this woman so much.
This book is even more action packed than the other two and you get to find out about Loch and Ainsley's pasts and the threats that happen in the present.
At the end I was on the edge of my sit and my heart was pounding..I don't think I breathed there for a while.
Awesome finale.

I so enjoyed these two together, but their story touched me emotionally, it was so moving! Warning there you will need your tissues handy! As usual Carrie Ann Ryan has written a story that pulls at your heartstrings, holds your attention and reaches deep inside you. You can not help but be moved by this book.

Ainsley and Loch are best friends, they have been for ages, neither one of them thought they would ever be more than that. Then the mother of his child decided that she didn't want to be involved with Loch or their precious daughter anymore and signed over all parental rights - how can a mother do that? Loch basically became a single parent and Ainsley became even more involved in Loch's life. She was always there to help him with his daughter in any way she could. Ainsley had always loved Loch but was afraid to tell him, she feared she might lose her best friend and Loch was very afraid of changing things between them because after his experience with the mother of his child he now has deep-seated issues regarding relationships.

Then, things come to a head, we get to see how wrong Loch's fears and thoughts regarding a future with Ainsley truly are, and how determined Ainsley really is. I loved the way that she fought for what she wanted and finally made her best friend see what they could really have together if he would just let go of this fears.

These two are made for each other the chemistry between them is palpable and hot, and because of their familiarity and friendship and trust built up over such a long time they really do know each other better than most and they deserve to have their HEA but they will have to fight not only their fears but forces from Loch's past.

I didn't think Carrie Ann Ryan could top the two previous Whiskey books, but she did. This one had so much going for it. Loch and Ainsley were BFF's and both wanted to be more, but had never acted on it. When they finally did act on it, things popped up in Loch's life that made him push her away.
I will add more later after it is published, but I couldn't have enjoyed this book more. Kudo's Carrie

Wow boys can be stupid! Pushing away to protect, doing and saying the wrong thing for the right reasons. Well at least it isn't for long and common sense prevailed. I love that the other two brothers with all their infinite wisdom since they're in relationships now, butt in at the best times. Family dynamics are at their best with Whiskey Undone and can't wait for more from the Montgomery Ink World.

I loved this story!!! Loch and Ainsley are so perfect together and both so insecure in how they are in able to manage a relationship. When danger shows up all Loch can think about is keeping those he loves safe. Ainsley wants to be strong and she is stronger than she realizes when she fights to get back to those she loves and the family she has chosen. The Collins family is amazing and this book is a fabulous conclusion.

Another amazing read!!

Carrie Ann has done it again with this book! You will absolutely fall in love with Ainsley and Loch. Two friends who try to keep their distance and not let the other know how they actually feel about them all in the face danger and while Ainsley helps to raise Loch’s daughter. This book kept me up all night, I couldn’t put it down!!

I love Lock and Ainsley!

Actually, I've loved Ainsley since the first Whiskey and Lies book and I KNEW she belonged in that family. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out why the two of them didn't just get on with it! What had happened to cause them to friend zone each other? In fact, I was afraid that some new hussy would swoop in and steal him! But then I reassured myself that Carrie Ann Ryan wouldn't do that to us ... would she?

Loch had always been a bit of an enigma. I knew that he had a past; he was more than just a gym owner/physical trainer/security guy. But I didn't dream that his past was so dangerous that it would cause such a scary situation for Whiskey. A murder and a kidnapping? And who could have imagined our little teacher being such a beast! All those self defense classes really paid off for our Ainsley! She's my shero!

But the love between those two is the best kind. Full of liking and respect in addition to the physical attraction, that makes a lasting relationship. Real best friends in addition to lovers, once Loch got his head out of his tail. I get that he thought that he was protecting her, but I was reading to strangle him!

For me, the only thing that would have made this story better was if Tabby and her Alex would have come to visit. I'm sad to see this series end, but look forward to the next arc set in the Montgomery World.

Welcome to Whiskey, where everything happens. In this book we have murder, kidnapping break ins, busted up property, love & sex.
I've been reading this book on & off for a couple of days then I got to the break ins & couldn't put the book down.
I love the way Carrie Ann keeps us in our toes with her writing!

This is a terrific story that I did not want to put down. Ainsley and Loch have been best friends for a little no time. I enjoyed following along on their journey as they navigated a difficult path towards happiness together. This will pull on your heartstrings, and have you on the edge of your seat in suspense and anticipation. A truly wonderful book.

What a fabulous story. There is nothing better than falling in love with your best friend. This book shows a man who wants above all to protect those he loves, even when he does not admit the extent of his love. The tension and horror him and his best friend to through will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest!
It was a great book!
Ainsley + Loch have been friends for forever.
They are also very attracted to each other, but will they take the risk ?
Ainsley stood by his side thru thick and thin.
Loch always knew that Ainsley will always be there for him.
However, will they give love a chance ?
It has all the ingredients that you need for a great book!

Whiskey Undone
(Whiskey and Lies #3)
by Carrie Ann Ryan

I have to admit I haven't read this authors work in a long whiles and I was hesitant to start this as it was the 3rd and final one in the Whiskey and Lies series.

Loch and Ainsley are or have been best friends for 10 years or so, and I'm assuming that to get a better feel of that you should read book 1 and 2 in the series, but I didn't. I didn't feel lost, or if I was missing out on something. Though I think if I had read them ones I would have felt the chemistry between our two main characters more then I did when I read this one. I love that they all ready had this kick ass foundation of a friendship so moving to lovers wasn't weird.

When danger shows up from Lochs past, all he wants to do is keep who he loves safe and out of danger, Ainsley has been secretly in love with him for years so she is emotionally confused and it doesn't help when they have really hot sexy times.

I really enjoyed the suspense element to this romance. Action, and romance with the right amount of drama is a win in my book. It made me want to go and read the first two in the series.

Overall I would highly recommended, 3.5 Stars

The Final book in the Whiskey and Lies Series is the one that will have you coming undone. Loch and Ainsley have been best friends forever, she has been there by his side every time he needed her. As things get tense and danger lurks in the shadows from Loch’s past, he may just have to push the one person he needs the most away to keep her safe. As jealousy, hurt, fear and frustration come crashing down these two may have to finally face that they don’t just love each other but are in fact in love with each other. Their story is angsty, witty, emotional and seriously steamy. A friends to lovers romance that is nothing short of being like top shelf whiskey. You will fall hopelessly in love with these two and hoping that they offer you a sticker. The epilogue gives us a sense of completion to this family of characters that we have grown to love.

As this is the third book in the series we already know and love all the characters and have just been waiting for Loch and Ainsley to realise what everyone else already knows, that they make the perfect couple. This is a romance but there is a lot of suspense mixed in and of course no good romance is complete without a little heartbreak. I cried but there is a happy ending, and it is nice to catch up with all the Collins family members and see how they are getting along.

If I could give Whiskey Undone more than 5 stars I would do it! I have been waiting forever, or it seems like it, for Loch and Ainsey's story! It was well worth the wait. Carrie Ann Ryan is a Master at bringing so much emotion into her stories and I had to have the tissues handy! I loved it. Amazing! I love the whole series but Whiskey Undone is my new favorite! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Whiskey Undone is the exciting conclusion to Carrie Ann Ryan's Whiskey and Lies series (a Montgomery Ink spinoff). This series definitely went out with a bang and this story is one of Ms. Ryan's best yet (which is no easy feat!).

Even though this is Book 3 and I think it would probably stand fine on its own, I'd still highly recommend picking up the first 2. That way you can see what everyone else has seen, the tension and heat building between Loch and Ainsley right from the start!

This story was loaded from start to finish with action, adventure, suspense and tons of heat! Great characters and an edge of your seat plot, drew me in from the start and I didn't want to put it down! One of my all-time favorites!

Ainsley Harris has been in love with Loch Collins for years, but she's contented herself with just being his BFF, if it means staying involved in his life. One fateful night, the two hook up, and it stresses them out. That and a murder in Loch's gym changes everything. With a past in the security business, Loch left that behind when his daughter Misty was born. But now, it appears his past has come looking for him, and the threat level in Whiskey has become downright deadly. When his woman and his daughter are threatened, there's no length Loch won't go through to keep them safe.

I had mixed feelings about WHISKEY UNDONE. On one hand, I loved the connection and chemistry between Loch and Ainsley. Their deep friendship made a great friends to lovers storyline. And Ainsley's relationship with Misty was beyond sweet and completely awe-inducing. On the other hand, for someone with Loch's background, he didn't seem to have a good grasp of the situation he was in. He didn't trust his gut, didn't make the obvious connections to his past, putting Misty and Ainsley in danger. Ms. Ryan did a good job building a backstory and fleshing it out, but then made Loch seem stupid and blasé about it. It didn't make sense to me, given that a man with his background should've been all over it instead of waiting for the local small town police to figure it out (and yet not giving them all the info he had), especially when his loved ones were intimately involved. That said, Ms. Ryan's books are always filled with the feels, and book 3 in the Whiskey and Lies series was full of them. Fans of this series will most certainly want to pick this one up.

Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; mixed condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; no violence/murder.

I love all things romance. But I absolutely adore romantic suspense. I enjoy a sweet, light hearted love story, but add in a mystery to be solved, suspense, and secrets? I am in heaven. And this author does that better than any other I've read. Whiskey Undone rates as one of the top ones she's written, IMHO. Not only do I get my romantic suspense mystery fix, but a good lovers to friends romance thrown in for good measure! This story was so well written, I was on the edge of my seat throughout most of the book. I was so immersed in the characters lives, that my emotions were bouncing from one extreme to another. This book will appeal to so many readers, regardless of whether they are new to the CAR worlds or if they've read everything she's written.

Ainsley is Loch's best friend. They have been best friends for so long, their lives are completely intertwined, and there is no separating them. But it's always stopped there, despite Ainsley's secret feelings for Loch. Loch, on the other hand is a complete enigma. As much as he loves his family, as close as they are, there are parts of his life that no one talks about, that I'm not sure anyone really knows about. And he holds himself apart from everyone, to a certain extent, because of that. When things start going awry in Whiskey, nothing is as it at first appears.

The story of Loch and Ainsley, despite the many secrets and the abundance of suspense, is an amazing blend of romance and mystery. I love how close the family is, how they don't hesitate to jump in to help each other, despite the possible danger. I love the writing style of this author, how it seems to flow smoothly, even when there is a lot going on in the story. I might not understand why things happen the way they do when it's going on, but it always makes sense in the end! This book is a must read!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader’s Copy of this book.

I am always a bottle of mixed emotions when it comes to the last book of a series. Happy because “Yay, a new book”, sad because “Boo, it’s the end of the series,’ and as Loch Collins and the rest of the Collins Family have been around for a while this one being the end is especially hard.
Loch is the last single man of the hunky Collins men and I believe the grumpiest and hunkiest.
Ainsley Harris has been around the Collins family for years; went to school with Loch’s sister and as adults she and Loch became besties, she also has a little secret that she has been keeping from him for years.
Ok seriously there is something about a growly man that gets my motor running and boy does Loch get my motor running. Loch owns a gym and security company in town, he runs his businesses and raises his daughter that is all the man does. OMG, Ryan just wrote the perfect man pumped, awesome with kids, protective, and growly!!!! Swoooooooooooon!!!!!!!
The push and pull between these two is amazing. Change is never easy and when it’s a change in a relationship it’s even harder. Loch is afraid what the change will do to his daughter, not to mention no one he has ever been with has stayed and now that there has been a murder in town he’s afraid that his past has comeback to hurt his family and that means Ainsley too.
He pulls her too him because he can’t help himself when she’s around, but he pushes her away to try and keep her safe.
Ainsley is own strong woman because if my man was so damn wishy washy I’d have to hit him with a frying pan!!!
Ryan has once again wrote a beautiful love story with heat, passion, danger and family. No matter what the love story she writes is about one of her main themes is family has always got your back, always there when you need them, and love you for you.

This is the 3rd book in the Whiskey and Lies series and I would absolutely read the first 2 books before this one so that you can understand the main characters relationship before this book. This one is the last in this series and it's about Loch Collins and Ainsley Harris. Loch and Ainsley have been best friends for years. Loch has secrets that he keeps from his family and friends in the hopes of keeping them safe. What he doesn't understand is that when he gives in to what he considers his own weakness while he is angry, it will change everything in his life. Ainsley has her own secret she keeps. The fact that she has loved Loch for years but she doesn't want to say anything in case it forces her to lose him for good. But after they both make a choice one night, now they have to decide what is truly best for them and whether to fight for each other as well keep everyone they love safe.

I absolutely loved this one! I had wanted to know why Loch seemed so serious and repressed, and reading about why in this book definitely made me understand. But it also makes you sad for him. To understand just how much he went through and what his hopes for his own future had been at one time. And then learning about Ainsley and what happened in her past? That was heart breaking! Watching them both fight things out and actually learn what will bring them peace and happiness in the long run was beyond great! And then you throw in the suspense part and you will be on the edge of your seat! Another great read in this series! I am sad to see it end but maybe we can have some off shoots from it!

Oh I really loved these two together, but man oh man, did they bring the water works with their story!

Ainsley and Loch fell into being best friends without any rhyme or reason. Then, once Loch's daughter was born and her mother signed off rights to her, Ainsley became an even bigger part of Loch's life, helping him out with his little girl. Ainsley has always loved Loch, but didn't want to lose her best friend. Loch is ridiculously afraid of changing things between him and Ainsley, because he has issues about relationships

Then, everything bubbles up, and we get to see how silly Loch's thought process truly is, and how kick-butt Ainsley really is. I loved that she fought for what she wanted and took no guff from her buddy. I smiled at his confusion, and railed at his actions he took in that confusion.

They are electric together, and all the familiarity from being friends for years, only ramps up the wattage!

I've been intrigued since the first book to see if Loch and Ainsley would end up together. I honestly thought there might be more of a fight against their feelings. Sure Lock did a bit, but it was more fear of safety, not being sacred of starting something with Ainsley. I was glad that things were addressed quickly and they provided a united front, it was something they needed. I loved how the rest of the family found out, about the only thing better was when Misty found out. Nothing fazed that little girl and her advice to Lock was great!

I was glad when the drama was over, glad that Collin's ended up on top, it made for a sweet ending when the family all gathered together.

Loch and Ainsley!! Just wow!! They have been best friends for years and nothing more they help each other through the highs and lows. Example when Misty was born Loch’s daughter and her mother abandoned her Ainsley stepped up and helped, but that’s what best friends do for each other. However something changed along the way friendly feelings shifted and now something else has taken place neither are sure what is happening or if anything should because their friendship and Misty are what matters most. Overall, loved this story it’s a page turner and keeps the reader invested to see what’s coming and what will occur. Definitely a must read!! Highly recommend!

Whiskey Undone by Carrie Ann Ryan
“Pieces falling into place, 5 stars”

Loch is and has been Ainsley’s best for the last ten years. During that time, she’s been with him through it all and silently loving him along the way. One-night changes everything between them and they are now fighting to stay together. Will they make it out on the other side stronger than ever or will they lose each other along the way?
Years ago, Loch and Ainsley fell into a friendship seamlessly. She became the one solid woman in his life aside from his family, stuck by him when he had his daughter and helped him without saying a word. Simply put Ainsley is his best friend and he doesn’t want to do anything that may jeopardize that. Then one night everything changed, and his past is coming back to haunt him. Will he be able to keep Ainsley safe or will he lose her in the process? Only one way to find out…
I loved Loch and his alpha tendencies. Ainsley was like my soul sister and was feisty as all get out. She wouldn’t take Loch’s vagueness and pushed for the truth. These two were together before they even realized it but once it clicked, man did it click with a bang! Ryan knocked this one out of the park and I cannot wait to see what she does next.

OH YOU'RE IN FOR ONE AMAZING TREAT

It's official - I'm in love with Ainsley's spitfire spirit and her stubborn attitude

I loved Ainsleys character. Her ballsy attitude and even if it takes her a minute, an hour or a day to go away and think about what she wants to say - when she gets back to Loch, she gives him what for with both barrels right between the legs!
Misty stole the show. She's utterly adorable.
Loch tries to do the right thing - he fails spectacularly - and Ainsley doesn't let him get away with it....but at least he tried, bless him. And yes at times he's a bit of a 'Tommy Tanker' but his heart is in the right place and he's going in circles so much that he's doing doughnuts and making himself dizzy, not to mention making stupid, idiotic, crazy decisions but bless him he meant well.
I've cried so much that I've used all my tissues and I'm on the kitchen roll now
I adored this book - Carrie Ann manages to extract so much emotions out of this cold, dead husk of a heart. The saying is you can't get blood out of a stone - Carrie Ann manages to get so many tears out of this old fossil. The characters are amazing and I so want to move to Whiskey.
I voluntarily reviewed this book for an honest review - to be absolutely truthful I turned off my TV, silenced my social media and grabbed this book with my hot and sweaty hands and I devoured this book.
