It’s said you never forget your first. She was my childhood best friend. We were inseparable. We kept each other's secrets and grew up knowing we would always be there for one another. In the most devastating moment of our lives, we shared our grief--and found comfort in each other's arms. Somehow, the worst day became the best night. And then she left. I've never forgotten her. I've tried but couldn’t. My only consolation is the memory of one perfect night. Now, ten years later she walks back into my life, a grown, gorgeous woman and I'm ready for a second chance. The look in her eyes says I'm still what she wants, now I have to convince her to trust me with her heart. I’ll never allow anyone to toy with her again. Toying with Her. With me? Yes, please!!

This was my second Lane read. It was very different from the first book I read by her. And I loved it. Rorke stole my heart. And my panties. He wasn't perfect but he was mine. So dear Sterling, you can keep your toys, I'm keeping Rorke.

Snarky judgments have made Sterling a loner. Her sin? To develop a sex toy. Tired of feeling alone, Sterling goes back home to her Southern roots. To the family that still loves her-sex toy maker and all. To LOVE.

Smart. Sexy. Unique. Sterling was born to shine. She was not your typical heroine. She invented a sex toy for Gawd's sake. She was brilliant. And I ADORE her.

"She is the one that got away. We never got our chance. Now she’s back, and she thinks we can be friends? I spent my entire childhood and teenage years being 'friends' with her. She wants to be friends? That’s fine. I’ll be her friend. But I’ll be damned if that’s all I am."

Rorke Weston. Sighs He wasn't perfect. He let his ego control his emotions, messing up things with Sterling, but he was able to see behind the wall... behind the money and scandal, he could see the woman, not the sinner.

"Society judges us left and right. Women judge each other based on our clothes, how we raise our children, our bodies..."

And if you are the vibrator's queen... you're a sinner. To hell with that. Many women think our sexual pleasure shouldn't ever be discussed or explored. And that's bullshit. Our pleasure is our own. It's important. So if you want to use a sex toy. Use it. No one should judge you for that. Love the way Prescott Lane addressed this topic in the book. Sadly, this is a very real problem in our society and it definitely needs to stop.

"There's a woman for every man. And Sterling is that woman for me, always has been."

Seriously, Sterling & Rorke...

In addition to this superb couple, you have a blend of supporting characters so loveable and funny. I just wanted to live there and be part of the book club.

I adored my trip to Fall Springs, Alabama! It was full of music and book quotes. I had so much fun with this incredible group of people and I wish I could get more of them.

Toying with Her was a joy to read. Prescott Lane combined all the right ingredients for a successful romance: heart, swoons, teary eyes, smut, love, and best of all, LAUGHS. So if you are looking for a romance that has second chances and a winning love story, then I recommend you give this book a try.

"If love is dirty, I want to be dirty with her. If love makes me blind, I want her by my side, leading the way. If love is patient and kind, it’s because so is she. If my love is stubborn, it’s only because I won’t let her go. If love makes me drunk, I want it to be on her kiss, her taste. If love makes me stupid, what more do I need to know than her? If love makes the world go round, I only want to take that trip with Sterling. She is love. Stupid, drunk, patient, stubborn, kind, hopefully, all kinds of dirty—Love."

Don't tell me you didn't swoon all over the place with this quote... because I did.

I enjoyed Toying With Her thanks to Rorke. Damn, he was dreamy and one hell of a man. Head over heels in love with Sterling and did everything to make her know that and made her feel comfortable with who she was. The real Sterling and not the woman who created the bestselling vibrator.

I really hoped for more background story since they'd known each other since the were kids. I felt the focus was on Sterling's occupation and the attention especially the negativity that followed it. She was guarded because of her fame and wealth. It was all about people's assumptions and judgments because she'd made a sex toy.
That came in to play regarding their relationship.

I expected and wanted more of Rorke and Sterling. More of them as kids, more of Rorke, his brother and Sterling. There was so much potential.
When Sterling and Rorke were together it was great and again I felt the scenes ended too fast. The same can be said with the pace of the story. They rekindled their friendship after ten years and it moved too fast. All the sudden marriage was in the picture.

Overall I liked Toying With Her because of the characters. Also the secondary characters especially Rorke and Sterling's parents were fabulous. So much sass from their mothers and their fathers the rocks of the family. This was my first book from Prescott Lane and I'm excited to read more.

This is only the second book I've read by Prescott Lane and I gotta say, she keeps surprising me at every turn. I absolutely ADORED Sterling and Rorke's story! These two characters are SO FEISTY and I LOVED it! TOYING WITH HER is a second-chance, friends-to-lovers type romance that pushed all the buttons for me - heavy attraction, insane chemistry, and amazing banter. I couldn't put it down! Ms. Lane mixes the heavy and the light-hearted perfectly, rounding it out to make a damn good romance.

ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

Toying with Her was much more than I expected it to be, I definitely wasn't prepared to laugh so much or fall hard for all the characters. It's a sweet Southern romance wrapped up in a sexy bow. Sterling is a beautiful, stubborn woman who isn't quite as city girl as she leads everyone to believe. I really enjoyed that she was a sweet girl through and through, just protecting herself from the backlash of judgement. She's faced with judgement and ridicule for her career, which felt so accurate with the small town setting. Rorke is the handsome teacher, the one-time-thing guy for Sterling, except he's held onto his feelings for her all these years. They go far back, there lives shared together since childhood and all signs point to forever. Told from their dual POV's, Toying with Her reads like a second chance romance, but with all the butterflies of a first date.

"This is what trouble looks like. It's disguised in a white lace dress with green eyes that shoot all the way across the yard."

I loved the mix of sweet and smut, Prescott Lane really convinces you that a sweet, homely girl can make millions with a vibrator and still be her wholesome self. It's charming and refreshing and all sorts of swoon worthy. I have to hand it to Prescott Lane though, Toying with Her was more than just about romance and the booming sex toy industry. She was authentic in her depictions of a small, Southern religious town, of men, and in the acceptance of others. While Sterling is embracing everyone her parents are busy giving things up to protect her. It was sad, disheartening, and real. At the same time, Sterling has blocked out anyone interested in getting to know her, accustomed to those who want her money and fame, but can't accept the reality. Her parents, their friends, and Rorke do their best to convince her otherwise and that's where the laughter and tears come in. It's so emotional to read a character be broken down and have meaningful dialogue with other characters that lift them up. It was like a movie, something you dream about happening to you, and it makes love so much more than a fairytale, especially for Sterling.

"My heart worries. Worries that for one reason or another, this won't work out. And while it hurt to lose past relationships, this is different."

Toying with Her is a fun release from Prescott Lane, it has all the things about contemporary romance that readers love with a unique twist that will keep you reading. It was impossible to put this book down and when I was finished I had a happy smile on my face. It wasn't what I expected, it was better, and I absolutely recommend reading it.

Toying with Her by Prescott Lane
4 stars!!!

“I think I was made to love you.”

Prescott Lane delivers a hilarious and extremely cute read with Toying with Her. This book contained one of the most hilarious lines I have ever read, I had tears rolling down my face and got a stitch. I loved the Southern sayings, I loved Momma with a passion and I fell in love with our hero and heroine. The South’s small towns are well known for being stuck in the dark ages, where the bible is the be all and end all, small minds are rife and pack mentality is ever present and our heroine’s home town was no different.

“Sterling…You deal with clits, not c*nts. Let’s go.”

On the outside Sterling had everything, she had her own business, she was a multi-millionaire, she had fame, a life that most would be enviable of, but at the end of the day her material wealth meant nothing. Sterling was incredibly lonely, she invented the most famous dildo, men either wanted her money or were emasculated by it, some were intimidated by what she invented and the fact that they could never compare. No matter what, she had no success with the opposite sex. Sterling’s job had even alienated her from her home town. Anyone who got close, got hurt and so Sterling stayed alone.

“Put wishes in one hand and shit in the other, and see which one fills up first.”

Only one man had made Sterling feel anything, he was her best friend, her first and the only orgasm she had ever had without using one of her own inventions. Sterling graded all men against him and none stood a chance, going back to her home town would put them on a collision course, but a summer spent at home is just what the doctor ordered.

.“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” ~ Emily Bronte

Rorke was simply adorable, he has only ever loved one woman…Sterling, she was his first, she was his best friend and no woman had ever compared. Rorke wasn’t perfect, but he was honest and relatable. Rorke was your typical southern man with an ego the size of Texas, where a man is the provider and he looks after his woman. However, when these two come face to face once again all those old feelings come flooding back and while many years have passed that chemistry hasn’t forgotten.

“My dad said love has to be stubborn. Love makes us drunk. Love makes us stupid. Love makes the world go round.”

A story of second chances, of compromise, of adjustment. It was cute, it was hot, it was hilarious, it was swoony, it was romantic, I cried tears of laughter and tears of sadness but most of all it was full of love. Absolutely loved it, another winner from Prescott Lane.

“You may be the woman on top, but I’m the man holding you up there.”

Prescott Lane has done it again she has a way that draws you in until you are hooked and wanting more , story line , characters , love affection from not just the hero and heroine but all the characters that are truly lovable like the heroines mom she is a hoot , and also upset to see how some people could be so judge and mean but they get theirs in the end . Rorke and Sterling are just so adorably sexy together love every thing about them with their supper intense connection that goes back to when they were young and dealing with a painful loss to adult hood , they had their experiences but never forgot the one night they shared together it all comes back when they happen to run into one another on the day the heroine arrives home and I must say was delighted with the way that scene went , Rorke and Sterling share such a strong respect for the other and they are really protective and would have the others back no matter what . Sterling is such a incredible heroine she just made me have a girl crush on her she is strong, beautiful , caring , talented and would do anything for the ones she loves . Rorke is absolutely swoon worthy everything about him just made me feel warm inside he has a lot in common with the Sterling and I found that quite amazing felt so bad with all the loss he had to face . I feel for all the warm characters that would do anything for the ones they loved and respected can't wait to read more by this author and were could I found me the toy that is mentioned would love to have one (wink) .

'Toying with Her' was a second chance romance that was sweet, had me laughing and oh so heartwarming.

Sterling is a sassy, takes no crap badass. She owns her own company, and the inventor of the very well-selling sex toy. She's made quite a name herself. But it doesn't matter how rich she is, because no amount of money can make her happy. She needs to be surrounded by love, so she decides to go back home to Alabama and spend her summer vacation with her parents. What Sterling doesn't realize is that her past is just around the corner.

Rorke Weston has always loved Sterling. Ever since they were kids he's always had a crush on her. The last time Rorke saw Sterling was moments after they lost their virginity to one another. Years have past and he hasn't stopped thinking about her or that night. He'll stop at nothing to show her how he feels. He just hopes she feels the same.

Rorke and Sterling were two characters that had to fight for one another. Fight through the judgment of others. Fight for their feelings. And especially fight for love. The end result was something special.

I adored this story and these characters. Rorke especially, he was just so swoon-worthy. The way he loved was exceptional. Can I keep him? For my first Prescott book, I'll say it was a winner. I'll definitely read more from this author.

Favorite Quotes:

Nestled along the shores of Mobile Bay, the pace here tends to be a little slower, the tea a little sweeter, and the sun a little hotter.

So no friends, no boyfriend, and no dates in almost three years, because men were either turned off by my profession or turned on for all the wrong reasons. I was feeling pretty desperate. And mansperate, too.

“Let’s make some babies.” Good God, he’s out of control. We went from one baby— singular— to babies— plural— in a nanosecond. “How about we just practice?”

My Review:

Despite the book cover and the title, Toying With Her was not erotica, although several breath-stealing steamy scenes occurred as part of a long brewing and blossoming romance. I was engaged by Ms. Lane’s smartly written tale from beginning to end and adored her alluring characters, entertaining storyline, and especially the clever use of humor sprinkled throughout and tucked into amusing descriptions and colorful observations. The premise was relevant and her storyline and writing style was interesting and appealing. Written in my favorite dual POV, I enjoyed this couple and their second chance at romance and had a proud fist pump-moment for Sterling’s resourceful and clever use of strategy.

Rorke had been in love with Sterling since they were small children growing up in a small rural community in Alabama, although he had been too reserved and timid to ever express his deep feelings for her. They had been friends who had finally shared one special night before returning to their separate college plans and regretfully, never crossing paths again over the following ten years.

I adored Rorke; he was insightful, patient, sexy, and sweet, although he also came with side-orders of proud and stubborn. I cherished Sterling as a smart and successful businesswoman with sass and savvy. However, her well-deserved wealth and marked success caused unexpected difficulties for her private life, as well as complications for her parents who were still living in their narrowed-minded small-town community in Alabama. A much-needed summer vacation spent with her loving parents had been her plan. Although the little Southern homespun community was not exactly the same as she remembered.

It's interesting story, which is at times very funny, while also very sad. It points out some of the problems in our society, people's inability to accept what is different, to cherish change, and their cruelty towards those they deem 'immoral'. Also it's a romance novel so there is that too. I loved both Sterling and Rorke, and I think their story is a perfect one.
Sterling became a millionaire by inventing a sex toy. Unfortunately, people don't always treat her well because of her occupation. Some people are downright disgusting, and their behavior extends to her family and friends too. This why it has been very difficult for her to get close to people. She doesn't date and she stays away from anyone who might get hurt because of her. She is visiting her hometown for the summer, and it's becoming more and more clear to her that her occupation is disrupting her parents' life as well. But there are also people who don't seem to care as to what she does, where she comes from, or who she is. They love her all the same, and these are the only ones who matter. Soon she will learn that and also learn to open up to people, and let them in.
Rorke has been in love with Sterling for as long as he can remember. He can't believe that she is back in town. Now is his second chance, this time he must tell her how he feels. He can't let her go once again or it might break is heart forever.
It's an interesting story, unlike any other romance I've ever read. I liked how it combined the good and bad together and made it something worth reading.
P.S. I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Sterling is the successful inventor of an extremely popular sex toy. From the outside looking in it seems like Sterlings got a good happy life but with her feeling more alone than ever, she decides to go back home to Alabama for the summer. I loved Sterling. She's come so far in her life but she hasn't had it easy. Coming from a small town where everyone knows your business and that frowns upon inventing sex toys, Sterling knows going back she's going to have to put up with the talk, but she's no idea how bad it's going to be. She's got a thick outer shell but she's super sweet inside and she soon won me over made especially easy as you find out her background fairly quickly.

Rorke has lived in Fall Springs for forever. Now a teacher at the local catholic school, he's no longer the shy, chubby kid from Sterlings childhood. I adored Rorke. The guy knows who he wants and he's not hiding that from anyone. He goes all out to show Sterling he's in it for the long run and I loved him.

I adored Sterling and Rorkes story. There's a sweet dependability about Rorke and he's exactly what Sterling needs. A really enjoyable romance that's low on drama and had me swooning over Rorke.

MY RATING: 4/5 STARS
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Toying with Her by Prescott Lane tells the story of second chance love between Sterling and Rorke. After losing their virginity together in a barn during their lust filled teenage years, they both go their separate ways, missing the opportunity to declare their feelings to each other. Fast forward a couple of years and Sterling returns back home to a small conservative town that doesn't want anything to do with her and her new sex toy invention.

This was my first Prescott Lane book and I found it simply refreshing to read. The writing style was easy to get into, filled with short sentences, dialogues, and short descriptions of the past, allowing readers to be caught up. I also really enjoyed the intricate plot and the constant moral battles both characters suffer.

Let's start with our heroine, Sterling. She's smart. She's sexy. And she owns the fact that yes, she created a sex toy to help her orgasm after not being able to orgasm at all since her first romp with our hero, Rorke. Sterling is a super star but she's also a wall. She doesn't want people to be close to her because she knows that her invention and her business comes with a price. People around her are usually shamed for knowing her in the small town she lived in. People lose jobs because of her and people get into a lot of cat fights because of her. All these factors make Sterling want to push Rorke away for very good reasons. Also, not to mention the fact that they didn't work out the first time and risking the chance of having your heart broken again doesn't seem so fun either.

Related image

Moving onto Rorke. What can I say except he's kind of a hypocrite and it kind of really annoyed me towards the end. See, Rorke supports Sterling and her business. He's basically a feminist. If she makes sex toys for a living, she makes sex toys. If she needs to stay in New York to complete a great business deal, he's supporting her every step of the way. He's never intimidated by her business woman alter ego but he's definitely intimidated by the amount of money she puts into the relationship. His ego wouldn't allow him to stomach the fact that Sterling may pay for a date here or there. Or she may purchase some plane tickets for both of them so they can both explore Sterling's second home New York. And when the time came where conflict arose, Rorke wouldn't let Sterling extend a hand to help.

Related image

While I admire Rorke's resilience to stand on his own two feet without favors, it bothered me because he kept making it seem like because he's a man, he should be the one providing and he won't accept his love's money. He was too arrogant and his male ego was too big for my liking. Put it another way. I wondered if Rorke would offer to take a loan from a male counterpart. Or would he go to the bank to take a loan. What really is the difference is that he couldn't stomach this idea that he, as a male, had to ask his girlfriend for money. And I think it was this that made me take a star off my rating. I wondered if it would have been better if Rorke just financed the loan, offering to repay her back through time if he really couldn't get over receiving a hand out.

Related image

Overall, I liked what the message conveyed. It wasn't the novel I was expecting. To be honest, I thought it was going to be straight erotica, some fluff, and a little bit of angst but I didn't expect Prescott Lane to discuss the prejudice and shame that usually happens when it comes to talking about sex. Prescott Lane does a wonderful job of replicating our world, conveying the message that yes, a lot of times, sex is a taboo subject that not many people look fondly over of. I enjoyed this and hated it because I felt so constricted for the character. To be so oppressed and to be publicly shamed for it, Sterling was a much stronger character than I could have ever imagined. Because really? What is wrong with touching yourself?

Toying with Her by Author Prescott Lane is a friends-to-lovers and second chance at love story.

"She is the one that got away. We never got our chance. Now she’s back, and she thinks we can be friends? I spent my entire childhood and teenage years being 'friends' with her. She wants to be friends? That’s fine. I’ll be her friend. But I’ll be damned if that’s all I am."

Sterling Jamison and Rorke Weston grew up together and were best of friends. Rorke's heart has belonged to Sterling since that time, but the timing was never right to let her know. Now she's back, and better than ever. He sees her. She sees him. And their worlds are viewed in a whole new light.

“I think I might have always been waiting for you to come back.”

Do you love the sugary sweet southern charm of Sweet Home, Alabama and the sass of The Help? Then you will LOVE Toying With Her. Set in the state of Alabama, surrounded by nosy neighbors, half-wit townspeople, and narrow-minded snobs, Toying With Her is a definite dive into the world of love in a small town. Being from the south, this novel was a warm blanket on a cold day. Comforting and feel-good.

"I know you’re used to being in control of your pleasure. But that ends right now. When you need an orgasm, I’ll provide it. When you want a kiss, I’m your man. You may be the woman on top, but I’m the man holding you up there.”

Strong-willed but tender hearted, Sterling Jamison did not take anyone's crap. She was smart, educated, witty, and quick. She definitely gave Rorke a run for his money. He was stubborn and wanted to be the man she deserved. But, he loved her with every fiber in his being. When he turned on the Rorke charm, every heart throbbed and burned with delight. There was no doubt in my mind that from page one until the last word that Sterling and Rorke's life-connection was written in the stars.

Stupid, drunk, patient, stubborn, kind, hopefully all kinds of dirty—Love."

Throughout the novel, Author Prescott Lane invited us on a journey of second chances, but did so in various settings. The change in scenery added a freshness to Rorke and Sterling's relationship, as they discovered each other and themselves in a new manner. I was enthralled, thought at times also saddened, by how the past and places so deeply influenced the present. This, coupled with the delightful and devious side characters in each locale, infused the story with the eccentricities needed for a shot of reality.

"I’ve got two arms that will always hold and protect you. Two eyes that will always see you as the most beautiful woman in the world. Two legs that will work hard to give you the life you deserve. And one heart that has and will always love you."

Toying with Her made butterflies take flight throughout my entire body. Or maybe they were fairies. Because, honestly, everything about it just felt so special and enchanted. It warmed my insides, in more ways than one, playing with constant themes of commitment, love, family, and fate.

“The universe wants you to have it.”

Prescott Lane is a fantastic author and one of my go to authors when I want to engross myself in a chemistry laden romance book. And that is what I have here in this second-chance, friends-to-lovers romance story. And again, Ms. Lane has hit this out of the park with another hit story with a story that has it all- Southern Gal, sex, angst, 2nd chance love, spicy, family angst, and an amazing banter between the main characters and also involving secondary characters.
What you have is the main characters Sterling & Rorke- Sterling became a millionaire by inventing an awesome sex toy for women. Sadly for her, most people treat her badly for her phenomenal brain and her great job. They think she is a loose woman and treat her as such and because of this, their behavior has now extended to her family and friends. She cannot get close to anyone or really have a real relationship because she fears getting hurt.
She finally decides to go home for the summer and when she gets there it becomes very clear that her job has disrupted her parents’ life in their home town. Sterling thinks no one likes her but soon comes to find out there are people who don’t care what she does for a living and like her for who she is . Sterling will have to decide if she will let them in or keep them out.
Rorke has been in love with Sterling since they were in HS together, maybe even before that. After they lost their virginity together in a barn years before, they went their separate ways. Now that Rorke hears that Sterling is back in town for the summer, he realizes that he never stopped loving her. Rorke knows this time he will get his girl and prove to her that never stopped loving her. If he can’t, it might break is heart forever.
This story is set in Alabama and you will love every southern sweet moment. There are light and heavy moments but that is how Ms. Lane rolls. I love it and loved this story. Sterling is a sweetheart of a woman who doesn’t take crud from anyone but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt her. She is sassy, sweet and very smart. She wants to be loved for who she is, not for her money. Rorke is definitely an alpha male. He is sweet, strong, stubborn and is ready/willing to prove to Sterling he is THE man , the only man for her. There is a past between them and I loved every moment that was shown. There is some moments where tissues will be required and that is why I loved how deftly Prescott wrote this story. It was with a beautiful heart and lovely words…She took me on a journey that involves family, and true love, a journey that shows love is always there, no matter how far you go or where life takes you.

My Rating: 5.0 stars *****

"That's the thing about women. When they push you away, it means you need to love them harder"

Sound advice from Rorke's dad.

I loved this book, not only did it have a character that created a sex toy and made millions (go Sterling) it had southern charm and Witt, I loved the plot and I loved the characters harder.

Sterling and Rorke had been friends forever, their parents are best friends, they all lived in a farming town were everyone knew everyone's business, before you reached your destination it was town gossip where you were heading, what you were doing and who with, it was that kind of town.

Right at the beginning of Toying with her you are thrown into Sterling story, how she left her town after college, one thing lead to another and she became the inventor of a new sex toy that took over the market and made her millions. Boyfriends are either with her for money or they are insecure. Sterling is lonely, unhappy and needs the love of her parents. Living in New York, Sterling is still a country girl at heart and decides to return home for the summer.

Sterling has quite a few surprises on her return, she discovers because of her occupation which is very much frowned upon in her judgemental town, that things have changed around her parent's, who were once well respected and a part of the community, things started to change and there's one vindictive gossip normally at the source of it.

What hasn't changed is her childhood best friend Rorke's ability to make sure he is in Sterling's life through the good and the bad. Rorke was her first, he was also the last man to truly bring her pleasure on a night they won't forget before she left town.

Rorke has loved Sterling since he was five years old, only his brother truly knew his feelings for Sterling and on her return to town Rourke who is now a school teacher isn't letting the woman he still loves get away again, sex toy inventor or not nothing will stop him from getting his woman.

Sterling's return is nothing short of scandalous in the eyes of some town folk she's the devil for inventing such a thing as a sex toy in some eyes.

Toying with her is a story you can get lost in. I was moved, I laughed, I loved the hot moments, the sad and happy moments. Rorke had me swooning with his determination, stubbornness and abundant love for Sterling.

Toying with her really does contain everything I love in a romance read.

Sterling is ballsy, witty, fun and adorable. Rorke is charming, hot, funny, bossy and stubbornly in love.
Prescott Lane had me captivated with another plot and had me falling in love with characters that I absolutely adored.

No angst or heavy drama, cheating or anything cringe-worthy, this is good old fashioned romance with hotness thrown in and brilliant captivating writing.
Looking forward to the next book.

I LOVED this friend-zoned second chance romance, Toying With Her, by Prescott Lane! I found myself smiling, laughing out loud, and tearing up throughout this story. It definitely has a Sweet Home Alabama feel with Sterling leaving her NYC life and returning to her hometown in South Alabama for a summer.

"So I'm heading back home to my family that still loves me---sex toy maker and all."

One of my favorite parts of the story is that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE how Prescott Lane created Sterling's character being a successful vibrator creator and making millions off her little toy invention!

description

But with being a successful female, Lane describes perfectly Sterling's relationship disasters and how being at the top can be very lonely with the opposite gender not handling well not being the breadwinner.

"Perhaps I should send thank you notes to all the boys who couldn't get me off. I could title it..."

Rourke & Sterling's love story is full of stubborn and romantic moments that I just fell in love with them as a couple!

"When she pushes you away, you have to lover her harder. Be stubborn."

If you love a Sweet, Steamy and Southern romance with plenty of discussion about a vibrator toy business this story is for you!!! Prescott Lane also includes tons of great book quotes and popular songs throughout the story that I found myself highlight so much as I was reading. I read this book in one day, because I could not put it down! I LOVED this story and cannot wait to read Prescott Lane's next book!

When you read the title and the blurb you think this book is going to be one of those laugh your ass off books where you will have tears running down your face so much and that you could possibly even pee your pants from laughing so hard! Right? Right? Well guess what I cried all right, yes quite a few times actually and none of it was from laughing so hard either. No it wasn't it was from feeling as if I had my heart ripped from my chest. Like the pain that Sterling was feeling was my pain or the pain that Rorke was feeling was my pain. Now don't get me wrong I did laugh, yes I did and I laughed a lot to. I also got all hot and bothered and turned on that I needed to take a cold shower after I finished this book. So you definitely go through the emotions in this book so there is no harm in this book being stale or stagnant at all!! Sterling and Rorke are actually made for each other and Rorke knew this when he was 5 years old. So they did grow up together but hadn't seen each other in ten years. You get each other's past of them growing up together and what they had done apart so there is nothing missing from this story at all. The parents are amazing and funny and I actually love that it's set in a Southern state. The other secondary characters some you will love and some you will hate but each play that important role to bring the entire story together. I do hope we get a book from a certain secondary character from New Orleans but I guess I'll have to wait and see. But this book pulled me in and surprised the fire out of me in the best possible way ever. If you thing this is just going to be a romcom same ole same ole book that you've been reading well then you are in for a surprise!!! So I highly highly recommend this book! - By Tina

This book is hilarious and swoon-worthy! Sterling is in a tough position. She's the creator and CEO of Paramour - a female sex toy company. Which being a woman in charge has got to be challenging but then being one in charge of a sex toy company with the toy she created has to be 1000% harder.

Sterling heads home to Alabama for the summer, where she learns her livelihood causes problems even for her Deacon dad and mom. While they don't care, Sterling is acutely aware of how her profession gives off a stigma about her.

Sterling runs into her old friend (and 1x fling) Rorke. Rorke was a fool for letting Sterling go but he's not this time, not without her knowing he loves her.

This story is a lot about misconceptions, preconceived notions and overcoming those. With a lot of sweet added in "I was born to love you".

I loved Toying with Her, a second-chance, friends to lovers romance peppered with humor and emotion that shows us more than one side of life in a small town.

"But I want to know what it’s like to be with someone who loves you as much as you love them. I’ve only felt it one time—that night with Rorke. And God help me, I want to feel that again. And for more than one night. And that scares the piss out of me."

I adored everything about this book from the main characters Rorke & Sterling to her parents. This story was not only sexy but funny too. I love humor in my book and this had it abundance.

Sterling needs a serious break and decides to come home and spend some much needed time with her parents what she didn't count on was how her hometown would now react to her given that she's now a millionaire due to the fact that she designs very in demand sex toys. While home she's back in her Rorkes orbit who isn't just her friend but, her first love who let her go when they were kids but, refuses to make that mistake again.

I loved how sweet, tender & protective Rorke was over Sterling and he was determined to knock down every single defense she had. My favorite part of this story however was it was the woman who was the self made millionaire and was able to afford any help Rorke needed, it's normally always the other way around so I loved the change.

I really enjoyed this cute little second chance romance. The story is more than a woman who became a millionaire from creating a vibrator. The whole story was too cute and Rorke was so sweet and swoonworthy.

This second chance, friends to lovers story was absolutely unputdownable! The characters Sterling and Rorke were so well developed, so likable, I wanted to meet them.
Their chemistry was off the charts sexy, charming, and romantic. Their banter was fresh, smart and funny.
What made this story truly stand on its own is the poignant story of acceptance. Can't say more without giving up spoilers and this is one of those reads that's better enjoyed going in blindly!

I love second chance romance, even though Sterling and Rorke were only together for one night you would never think they were ever apart. They seem to fit so perfectly together. I hated that she was judged so harshly for inventing a sex toy I myself thought it was a good profession. I hated the small minded town people who thought Sterling had no morals and compared her to a whore I found those moments very hard to read because I didn't think she deserved that kind of treatment at all luckily Rorke was there for her.

5 amazing stars

As I'm writing my review, I'm trying to remember if I've read any other book by Prescott Lane and that's when I reautd that it simply doesn't matter because after reading Toying with Her, I just know that I'll be catching up on her library very, very soon- I'm not quite sure what I expected when it came the adult toy maker Sterling and Catholic sch english teacher Rorke, but I was surprised more than once at what I read.

4 breath taking dreams

It was witty, sarcastically humorous and all kinds of adorable as these two tried to find their place in each others lives while ideating with the unexpected grief they didn't see coming. I enjoyed my moment of this story and tried to drag it out as long as I could, which is very rare for me. I can't wait to awe into another of Prescott Lane is stones and look forward to it!

Sterling Jamison is a twenty-eight-year-old woman, she developed a sex toy. A millionaire several times over, infamous for a very sought after invention, with a high probability of achieving multiple orgasms...she’s virtually a household name. She’s on her way to spend her summer in her hometown of Fall Springs, Alabama. A simple Southern girl from Small Town, USA, a sex toy empire maven.

Men could not accept her and her success, unless to use her to elevate themselves. They were unable to handle what she did for a living or the revenue it generated. She had her share of freeloaders, and her share of men unable to handle her making more than they did.

She expected her girlfriends to be accepting since they had similar toys. Within the first year, she no longer got invitations to go out with them. Apparently, she made meeting new people uncomfortable. The inevitable question of “what do you do?” caused embarrassment for her ‘friends’. I’m heading back home to my family that still loves me—sex toy maker and all.

The journey from Fall Springs to vibrator expert wasn’t a smooth one. I’d go to class studying in New York, to be an engineer then schedule appointments for a urologist with men with erectile dysfunction. I swear, at least fifty percent of the patients’ chief complaints were that they couldn’t get it up anymore. And I’m not talking about just older men, either.

This is a fact::: In the 1800’s, most men believed women could not have orgasms. Women were taught to suppress their needs and keep their men happy. Men thought women’s bodies existed for their pleasure only. The amount of sexual frustration in those generations of women must have been off the charts. Needless to say, women started complaining of a myriad of symptoms, which doctors classified as “hysteria.” The treatment of this disorder was to give the women hand jobs. I bet the women lined up in droves to go to the doctor for that. Anyway, the downside of the treatment was that the doctors performing said hand jobs got cramps from performing so many treatments. Thus, the vibrator was born. Consider that the history lesson of the day!

Slowing her car to a crawl, she opened the sunroof, letting the warm southern sun shine down on her fair skin.

I haven’t had a decent tan in years; Daddy used to get so mad at me when I’d sunbathe in the backyard sans bikini top. I figured it didn’t matter because I couldn’t fill out the smallest cup, anyway. Hips and booty, I got covered, God forgot me the day he handed out boobs. It’s funny because my momma has great boobs. She used to tease me that she could tell what kind of day she was going to have based on how her breasts looked that day. She’d wake me up, bouncing on my bed, and say, “Sterling, I’m having a good boob day! It’s going to be a great day.” Yes, my mom is “that” mom. God, I’ve missed her. Missed home.

It’s comforting being at your parents’ home that sense of warmth. Her family is ‘cray-cray’. Well, correction—the women in her family are characters. Maybe that’s why all the men die first. Her daddy oftentimes says he’ll go to the grave laughing at her momma.

Her parents have been married almost thirty years. In fact, their anniversary is in a few weeks. Daddy retired from his landscaping business a few years ago, but his real calling is being a deacon in the church. He’s been one for as long as I can remember. But the most important thing to know about Daddy is that he’s a man of few words. And Momma is a hairdresser and never stops talking. They are perfect together. The backyard is Mobile Bay. And the house could easily rival the graceful mansions of the Hamptons. With a huge wraparound porch complete with rocking chairs and windows to let in the natural light, it was a dream growing up here. The house has been in my family for a few generations. Growing up, everyone assumed I was rich because of the house, but we were middle class all the way. So it’s nice now that I’m financially secure to be able to spoil them, sending them on vacations all over the world. That’s how I love to spend my money. Pulling my car alongside the house, I step out, letting the bay wind hit me, the smell. “Gone to church, sweet tea’s in the kitchen along with a list of things for us to do. I don’t care if you are a millionaire. You can’t sit on your butt all summer. Idle hands do the devil’s handiwork”. Momma.

Told you—crazy! Smiling and rolling my eyes, I make my way to the yard, my old tire swing still hanging from the tree. The tire is still old and ragged, but the rope looks new. Had to be Daddy’s doing. Giving it a little tug, I stick my legs through the middle. While I’m not a little girl anymore, it still feels perfect. This is why I’m home. I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be loved, to be surrounded by people that love you. Not pretenders. That’s the real reason for my trip home. Daddy and Momma think I need a vacation, a long rest. And that’s true. But what I need more is to fill my belly with my momma’s good cooking, for my daddy to call me “Sugar,” to sleep in my old bed, to sit on my tire swing, and to soak in their love. I’ve never known love like the kind in this house. I hear my momma’s voice screaming, “Sterling’s home”.

“Hot damn, my baby’s back home,” Momma says. Did I forget to mention my momma cusses like a sailor? “Let’s celebrate! I’ll whip us up some Mint Juleps.” Oh, and she can drink anyone under the table. An odd combination for a deacon’s wife, but Daddy doesn’t seem to mind. He says she’s the best person he knows—booze and swear words included. “Amy,” my daddy says tenderly, causing my momma to step aside. It’s his turn. He doesn’t need to say anything. His eyes tell me everything I need to know. “Daddy!” “Sugar!” he says, wrapping his arms around me and picking me up, my feet dangling in the air. Even in his sixties, he’s still as strong as a horse. “Keith, put her down before you throw your back out,” my momma says. Daddy places me down and wraps one arm around each of his girls.

Rorke and Sterling were each other’s firsts...he was the chubby boy, she was the quintessential popular girl. It’s so easy being together, like no time has passed at all. I guess that’s what it’s like with old friends. No matter how much time you spend apart. I’ve known Sterling since we were at least that young, so no matter what she’s been doing, I know her. Our lockers were across from each other for four years. But those ten feet felt like miles. She was so out of my league. Sterling was always kind to me even though we ran in different circles, but it was my brother who she took a special interest in. You’d always leave him sticky notes on his locker. Sometimes two and three times a day,” I say. “Those damn pink heart sticky notes.” Smiling, she reaches into her purse, pulling out a stack. “I’m still addicted to them.” Exactly the same girl. The same girl that didn’t look at my brother’s bald head and tease him. The same girl who left him stupid knock-knock jokes on pink heart sticky notes.

A.A. Milne ‘Winnie the Pooh’
“‘If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.’ Winnie the Pooh said that.”

How does one resist a man that quotes Pooh and clearly states his intentions. “How about Friday? I’ve got to turn in grades by noon. Then I’m all yours,” he says, pulling me into a hug then whispering, “Just like I’ve always been”.

Rorke loved her, he’s always loved her and has a second chance to prove they’d be good h together. He feels insignificant that on a teachers salary, he is unable to compete financially...but he eventually gets past this hiccup. One sad moment when he loses his father.

Her mother and father were ostracised because of her profession.

Alabama has had a long and litigious history with sex toys. Back in the late nineties, the state law banned the sale of vibrators. Apparently, the Constitution of the Great State of Alabama does not protect the right to orgasms. Sex is scandalous and she is a tart according to the sanctimonious prig, Mrs. Quaid. She deserved a prompt shove off a short pier.

Sterling Jamison is the woman on top. She’s a young woman living in New York who owns her own business. A great business that has made her successful and millionaire, but with success she’s discovered it’s lonely at the top. It is the unwavering loneliness that has brought her back home to Alabama for an extended summer vacation with her parents.
Rorke Weston is the town’s hottest bachelor, a friend and the man she lost her virginity to 10 years prior. He’s now a teacher at the same HS they attended and he knows, since first laying eyes on her, that he’s still harboring feelings for Sterling.
Second chance love is one of my favorite kind of reads and this one didn’t disappoint. If I’m being honest, it took a while for me to warm up to the story. I cried and laugh, but had only a lukewarm feeling to it until I started really feeling the story and it hit me in all the right places.
Sterling and Rorke complement each other beautifully. She is in desperate need to be loved, to strip herself of the barriers she’s placed around her heart and be vulnerable, to relinquish control to someone else while Rorke is the perfect southern gentleman and more than anything, has been in love with her almost his whole life. He’s a man with principles and values who will not let her money or her chosen career path to come between them. Theirs is a love for the ages, same as their respective parents’ and it’s worth fighting for.
I loved almost every character in this book, except the one, of course. I loved the story and the storytelling, most especially the use of the quotes and I wondered about Pierce. This was my second time reading a book by Ms. Lane and once again her writing took me on a great ride with a beautiful story of soulmates finding their HEA with each other.

“That’s the thing about women. When they push you away, it means you need to love them harder.”
