Can the Thornheart witches solve the kissing curse and their tangled love lives?
Ivy and Bryony Thornheart are talented witches who fight a powerful kissing curse, to save their client Agatha Graytooth from repelling every man she kisses. Human lives are put at risk by this curse, and the witches have to race to save the feeble red bloods and break the curse.
K.E. O’Connor is the author of the Witch Haven mystery series, the Crypt Witch cozy mysteries, the Lorna Shadow ghost mysteries, the Holly Holmes baking mysteries, the Zee Town paranormal cozy series, and the Old Sarum mystery series, along with other titles available if you cast the right spell. She can imagine dragons, taste cookies when they aren’t even there, and hear the crack of a witch’s broom at a hundred paces.
K.E. (the K stands for Karen) lives in the United Kingdom (it isn’t very united, but that’s a mystery for another time) among the mystical stones and fairy creatures of Somerset. She graduated from the Universities of Southampton and Reading, where she received degrees in Archaeology and Cognitive Evolution (both highly entertaining to take part in, but with the career options of a ground witch’s toe bone.)

My Review: ✰✰✰⭒
I thought the cover of the Kindle book I got from the author’s newsletter was really cute. The elements all came from the book and the artwork fit the vibe of the book. BUT, when I started putting this review together I discovered there is a second cover for this book and it looks like it will be used for the series rather than the one I have. I just don’t care for it anywhere near as much as I do the other one, though I do like the old typewriter font that was chosen for everything but the title. It seems to be a popular font lately. What do you think of the two covers?
This was a fun read, but it had no real depth to it. The writing was pretty good but needed smoothing out in some spots to help the flow. The pace was fast for the most part but got bogged down towards the end with incidentals. I came away with questions that I assume the author is saving for future books in the series. Like what is the curse on the Thornheart women? Who put it there? What’s the story behind Bryony’s and Ivy’s fathers? One was an angel and one was a demon.
Agatha comes to the Love Cauldron to get the sisters’ help getting rid of the kissing curse and to find out who put it on her. Once you get into the story a bit, it’s easy to figure out who had it put on her, but the surprise is who actually laid it on her! I was rolling on the floor laughing over that part! But Ivy handled it pretty well.
The pairings are fairly predictable, too. There’s Gabriel who is a failed angel. He works for the Charm Police. That’s the local police force that keeps the humans safe living around the magical folks. He has a real soft spot for Bryony. And then there’s Kristoff. He owns the Demon’s Den, a bar. Guess what he is. Yup, he’s a demon and trouble. And he’s got his eyes on Ivy. There’s no sex and the only violence is the fight between Ivy and Kristoff at the Demon’s Den.
I really liked this story. The curse on the Thornheart family is definitely different and most interesting. I get a real charge out of Ivy; she is such a kick-ass witch. Bryony is sometimes a little too nice, but she balances Ivy nicely. The other characters in the book are well rounded and well thought out. The stand-off between Ivy and Kristoff is hilarious in a way. I can't wait for more books in the series and hopefully the curse on the Thornheart family will be ended and they can have their HEA's. I was given an Advanced copy of this book and am freely and voluntarily writing this review.
Witch Kissed is the first book in the Old Sarum Witch Cozy Mystery series. What's a little kissing curse? Well, apparently it's killing people. Ivy and Bryony work to save Agatha from the kissing curse and in turn save others. Oh, and don't forget the curse of sibling versus love. This story was different and interesting to read.
Ivy and Byrony Thornheart go on spree to help Agatha Greytooth, who has a particular curse on her. Agatha kissed the wrong person and now is cursed to repel men when she kisses them. The girls are hard pressed to fix this because red bloods (humans) are involved. As the two girls and their family are also cursed, they understand the situation. The Charm Police, in the form of Gabriel is also trying to find out who cursed the red bloods, and why. Can they find the one who did the curse and reverse it? Will Agatha ever be able to kiss a man again? Can the girls avoid love because of their own curse? This was a funny book with contrasting sisters as sleuths. I will be reading more stories from this world. I want to find out if the girls ever break their own curse.
A cute, not-too-long story with an interesting setting and characters. Ivy and Bryony are sisters, witches, who live in a magical community separated from the world of ordinary humans by a magic barrier. They run their own magic shop and help their customers with various problems, both real and made up.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review This was a feel good read. Full of magical, mystical creatures with several mysteries thrown in. There's also several pending romantic issues pending and a dry sense of humor throughout the story. The characters are endearing, smart, protective, and above all unforgettable
I was given a free copy of this for an honest review. I really enjoyed reading this book and learning about the character. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author as well as this series. The kissing curse was something different and I was shocked when we found out who set the curse. The characters were great and the story was a fun read.
A cute story about two sisters, both witches, who are under a family curse. In this story they work with a client to determine who cursed her and try to find a way to remove the curse.
I loved the dynamic between Ivy and Bryony. Ivy was such an interesting character and I really enjoyed how the romance in this book was portrayed. The case was pretty fun as well.
Received this free from author for a review. It is a cute cozy mystery with witches, magic and a curse. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoy a cozy mystery and witches.
What a fun filled mystery! I like that the sisters, Bryony and Ivy, are such opposites yet get along so well. Full of mischief, mayhem and curses, this is a great new series by an incredible author!
Old Sarum is a magical village cloaked from red bloods (humans) near Stonehenge. Witches Bryony and Ivy Thornheart own Love Cauldron, a magic shop for all the residents magical needs. They help remove curses from customers, yet their family has been cursed for hundreds of years. If one sister falls in love, the other will get very ill, and if one marries the other will die. Their mother and most of her sisters got pregnant by men they did not love, just to keep the family line alive. They are hit with their hardest case of a black magic cursed witch, who repels any man she kisses, and has gone out into the red bloods world and kissed 3 men who immediately fell into comas. they must work as fast as they can to help remove the curse. while still running their store.
