Forget all those other roommate romances you might have read.
Heather and Chris don't hate each other... very much. And they don't have sex all the time... at least not at first. Chris doesn't go around shirtless, flexing his muscles and driving Heather wild... too often. And he doesn't get jealous and possessive every time she goes out with another man...well, maybe occasionally.
But they definitely don't fall in love... right away.
When Heather comes back to her hometown, she plans to take over her father's historic restoration business and move into a beautiful converted apartment in Preston's Mill. Then she finds out she'll have to partner up with the one man she can never forgive. Chris Dole, who abandoned her father and betrayed her trust three years ago.
It gets even worse. They don't just have to work together. They have to become roommates for six months to prove they can get along. That means Heather will have to play nice with Chris and put up with his obnoxiousness, his drop-dead sexiness, and his ugly recliner named Flo.
She'll do what she has to do out of loyalty to her father, but she isn't going to like it.
Noelle handwrote her first romance novel in a spiral-bound notebook when she was twelve, and she hasn't stopped writing since. She has lived in eight different states and currently resides in Virginia, where she teaches English, reads any book she can get her hands on, and offers tribute to a very spoiled cocker spaniel.
She loves travel, art, history, and ice cream. After spending far too many years of her life in graduate school, she has decided to reorient her priorities and focus on writing contemporary romances.
Yikes! My first read by this author and while I enjoyed the storyline, Heathers character completely ruined the story for me. She was annoying, very judgemental and just flat out pathetic. She got worked up over small trivial things and was one of those females leads that says one thing but does the complete opposite! Doesn't want a relationship with Chris, due to some misguided anger...idiot, but is pawing him every chance she gets, of course the man is going to be confused! She kept sending mixed signals! This fucking girl was crazy!
Chris was sweet, though his constant need to please Heather was frustrating as hell! When he finally broke down and cussed her ass out, well hell that was the best scene in the book! Of course he apologized afterwards...moron...and the all mighty Heather was happy once again. Her trust issues really should not have been issues at all. Her momma left when she was little but she still has some semblance of a 'relationship' with her, whatever. You have your dad who was quite frankly a perfect father and while I understand that a girl needs her mother, at the end of the day you grew up just dandy without her. The problems were between her and your dad, if she was fucked up enough to involve you by leaving then that's on her. Her leaving and Chris leaving after his mum passed were two completely different scenarios! Why she kept Chris in that same box was beyond me!!!
"If you're not willing to take a risk, you'll never get to experience love."
This was a cute, fun and lovable read. I really enjoyed the story and it kept a smile on my face the entire time. It's a quick read that you can read in one sitting.
In Preston's Mill first book we get to know Heather and Chris. They know each other forever but, after a rough year, Chris takes off leaving she and her father out of the blue. Heather's father never held a grudge for that but she was another story. She hated him for what he did, despite knowing the facts for what made him leave, and, when her father proposes some weird arrangement, she finds herself having to live with Chris for six months, to prove that they can be civil with each other.
But, you know what they say about hate... it's only a step from love. Heather didn't trust Chris and he was there trying to prove to her that he was there for good.
"How the he** was he supposed to show her that they could be in love and that he was looking for something permanent? With her."
Chris will do everything in his power to prove to her that he is trustworthy and that he is all in with her. Heather will try to deny her feelings and fight her trust issues to see if the boy she knew for so long was really the one for her.
It's a funny, entertaining read, it's really enjoyable to read and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. <3
He'd been strong before, but it looked like he'd been tearing up trees by the roots for the last few years.
As an act of preservation, he picked the dog up and cradled her to his chest - certain that if Heather was going to do anything to him, she'd reconsider if he was holding the dog. He was perfectly fine with using the dog as a shield. And being a coward.
Something is going on. I've been feeling vibes. Your young man has been stalking around brooding for a couple of days, like a bear who's lost its honey and you look as jumpy as a rabbit who wants to get a carrot but is too nervous to cross the fence.
I don't consider naked Saturday a way to cut back on water and laundry.
My Review:
Roommating was a quick and NA light rom-com that was easy to follow. Heather was a newly minted MBA and primed to take over her father's business. However, her plans were soon dashed and she was crushed when her father presented her with his plan of bringing in a different partner. While I initially had a difficult time appreciating Heather as she seemed immature and emotionally shallow and stunted; I grew more empathetic with her as the story progressed. The story was sprinkled with a bit of steam and the nosy neighbor consistently brought welcome hits of levity.
I say about a 2.5-3 - not bad for a free book from bookbub though - it was cute in some parts and funny in most parts -though the strife and issues in here kind of made me want to eye roll a lot - it's repetitive and just, bland, but overall put together it wasn't bad - and damn Lucy - I could just have an entire book about her because she's darn adorable - I think she needs to find herself a husband HAHA
Instalove one day. Didn't really like hero or heroine. Heroine was actually pretty obnoxious. Even if she has issues about secrets, that doesn't entitle her to know everyone else's secrets. She just struck me as spoiled and pushy.
I really liked Chris, “exactly! And the only one who is allowed to think of you naked is me.” It seems in most cases Chris had some good answers, "...unless sex is involved. Then we don’t need any space at all.” He rolled her on top of him and slid his hands down to cup her bottom." I really liked this book, Heather and Chris could both be pretty stubborn.
I really enjoyed this (FREE via Barnes and noble) book! I’m planning to continue with the series; the characters are verrrrrrry relatable - anxiously so for this reader! Lol solid 4 stars. Cheers! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🔨🛁🪑🐾
I am a little under the weather, and I wanted to read something comforting. A nice love story wouldn't hurt, I thought. Against my better judgement, I picked this title. I know. The title was shouting at me that it can't be the kind of romance I prefer. I went ahead anyway.
The first 20% was very promising. The writing is simple, and lucid, and easy-going. There was humour in almost every line.
And then it went downhill.
I mean sure, our hero is just too charming, but they cannot keep their hands to themselves. Just too much of that. And the length of the story is a little longer for that.
As for the 'conflict' of the story, there was almost nothing. Except that Heather has a trust issue, for something very trivial. If the authors wanted to just highlight that something so small can repeatedly screw up relationships, the a job well done. Otherwise, just nothing except a lot of x-e-s backwards.
I am so shy you see, I don't even say it. :D
I really liked the writing style though. Simple and to-the-point.

Chris and Heather used to be friends. Chris was even closer to her dad. Something happened and Chris disappeared from their lives. Years later, Heather’s father requests for Chris to return and help out with the family business.
There’s nothing strange about that. It actually sounds pretty good. Until...Heather’s father forces her and Chis to share an apartment for 6 months. What father would make their daughter live with a guy?
Everything else was just Meh. There were some cute moments, but overall it was predictable and a little cheezy.
this book left me so discontent. the plot was practically non existent, there was 2 pages worth of drama and the events skipped around so much. the author didn’t explore the chemistry nor tensions surrounding the mcs. AND THE DAD! he forced his daughter to live with someone just to prove that she deserves the business?? he was practically setting them up that’s so wrong. he had no right to abuse his power like that. as for the resolution, it lasted literally 1 page. all that happened was chris apologising to heather in one sentence AND HEATHER FORGIVING HIM 🤬, them kissing and then happily ever after (what a shocker). not to sound horny or anything but the smut was so so bad. it was so anticlimactic, barely exploring the 2 mc’s attraction towards each other. my least favourite thing about this book though, was the jumping around. something slightly out of the ordinary would happen, and suddenly it’s two weeks later. they decide to start dating, cool. i want to read about their first few days as a couple, not 2 weeks later. omg dad collapses! rather than focusing on the emotional trauma that event caused, everything becomes about chris and heather. it was always about their problems towards one another, and their newfound conflict. and then voila! dads suddenly recovers after like two weeks and there wasn’t a single interaction between the dad and either of them. the book was solely focused on them and absolutely no one else. i hated heather and chris’ personalities cos the author portrayed them as selfish beings, worrying only about themselves. and lucy the dog… i don’t know what type of dog she is, how fluffy her fur is, nor her size. all i know is lucy classifies as a small dog. she was more main character than the main characters. everything revolved around lucy and normally i wouldn’t complain except half the book was her on walks, her eating, or her whining. AND THE ENDING! i was so disappointed. there was barely any declarations of love, and guess what? there was no tension, no blatant show of happiness nor excitement. they’re engaged!! i should be overjoyed for them but rather i felt bored.
i’m so sorry but i didn’t enjoy this 😭

My Thoughts Refreshing to read a book that doesn't involve exes or anything over the top. Really engaging and well written.
What is this crap? First, it's in third person which I don't particularly like but will read. The heroine is just dumb and acts like a doormat. Her father tells her she has to not only share the company she has been prepping to take over since she was 10, now she has to live with her new partner who happens to be the guy that betrayed her father 3 years before. Then, she lets this guy take the room she wanted in her apartment. I finally stopped reading at the end of chapter 3. I had zero connection to these characters so it's a DNF.
I picked up this book for a couple of reasons. This was a free book in my online book group so I scooped it up. But the main thing that got my attention was the fact that it was roommates. I love the “OMG they were roommates” trope and I liked the idea of these people not wanting to be roommates let alone anything more. I went in thinking that this would be enemies to lovers romance with the roommate trope and it didn’t hit those marks the way I wanted.
I knew of course that this was going to be like all of the adult romances circulating with more sex scenes than necessary, but I had expected more from this novella (196 pages) than I should have. I felt like all of the characters were flat. Even our main couple. The dog drove me nuts by the end, but I know that everyone loves their pets an obscene amount. And I didn’t like the progression of this relationship. They’re supposed to be enemies. She’s supposed to be harboring this huge grudge. But it feels like they spend five minutes together and all of this past hurt is just water under the bridge. And it felt like they were way to willing to open themselves up to this relationship. I want a real slow burn enemies to lovers where they don’t even realize they’re falling in love. I want them suddenly acknowledging their feelings and freaking the fuck out about it. And this wasn’t that at all. Part of that is just the length of the novel, but part of that is just the pacing that the authors put into it. Nothing progressed the way it felt like it should have.
I did enjoy the setting a lot and it was definitely a quick and easy read. I would be surprised if it had taken me longer than two to two and a half hours to read. If you’re looking for a quick contemporary to break up all the fantasy (or whatever your favorite genre is), this could be just what you need.
Loved this book...Funny, Sweet..Laugh out loud... A whirlwind romance..When Heather thinks about her father's idea of living with a man who left when her father needed him. It's insane. 6 whole months living and working with Chris Dole. She wasn't sure about it, but that's what her father wanted to she went along with it. She's make the best of it.
Chris knew exactly why he was doing this. Tom Carver aka Heather's dad was important to him. He'd try making the best of the agreement. He was also keeping something from her. The only thing he didn't like was when she went out with other guys. That was so much fun. (Laugh out loud a lot).
As the time goes by Heather and Chris learn to respect each other. But something happens along the way. Will they give into it, or will past feelings stop her?
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is a cute read in which the girl has a chip on her shoulder in regards to the guy, however in order to get a partnership with the guy of her fathers business, they have to share an apartment for six months.
Chris is sweet and has a little fun in teasing Heather, but teasing and arguments soon lead to steamy make out sessions.
The father is a coy man in pushing these two together as it is definitely planned on his part. But the partnership goes well.
The neighbour next door to them (Estelle) is funny in her own meddling nosey way, quite a character to live next too.
We also get a glimpse of another neighbour who may well be thinnest character in the series to have a happy ever after.
Holy smokes? Who is worse? Tom, the dad for basically pimping his daughter out or Chris, a giant jerk of a guy who was such a jerk and needed to have his lights knocked out. What kind of father does that? He knew Heather went to school and was planning on taking over the family business for the entirety of her life and then refuses her the business unless he brings in a man. No, just no. Unless you were born in the 50's and thinks a woman can't be in charge this book will just make you mad. I hated Tom and Chris. What the heck was the author thinking? Not even a good premise as ridiculous and out of date.
I can't give this one star because I actually did manage to finish it (although I think thats because there was only 100 odd pages). The plot was just the worst, so bad I that even Chris (who was the only saving grace) couldn't save it. It felt contrived from the beginning when they became roommates and then carried on that way throughout. It was just bad.
Enjoyed this book so much! Been a while since the last time I read Samantha Chase's book and I quite like this one. Sure it's not as dramatic as I thought it would or eventful, but in writing, they're pretty good. I was hoping for more power in this book though. The lack of drama and twist, definitely made this book easy to forget. But overall I liked it. Look forward to read more!
I loved Noelle Adams books when I first started to read them. But the last four books, including this one... has no plot except for there being one of the two main characters having emotional drama that they bemoan constantly, they react immaturely and become childish and petty because of said emotional baggage, and then the rest of the book is filled with ...insta-lust sex.
This story came across to me as a tv comedy show instead of a romance book. The writing was very simplistic at times too... especially when the author starts to describe the setting... for example: (the heroine) walked out of her bedroom in pink sweatpants with a white stripe down the legs and a tight black knit tank top to go to the kitchen to get a water bottle. (I am not quoting at all! but this is how it reads)
So too simplistic, too much insta-lust and in a hurry to get the characters to start having their sexy times, instead of drawing out the falling in love and having real emotions play out.
It was better than others books and this was very different of the books with this kind . Heather was a very complicated character. But Chris was very cute . .
When Tom Carver sets his daughter Heather up as half owner of their family business and former family friend Christopher Dole as her partner the young woman is horrified as well as stunned.
However that is only the first half of the equation.
The other half is that Tom expects Heather and Chris to share a two-bedroom apartment for 6 months to see how their partnership can withstand not only working together but living together also.
The pair will either kill each other or predictably fall in love.
a sweet quick read for me ...love the cover. the one where they are standing in the kitchen and just legs. i kind of prefer that when you wanna visualize what each character looks like yourself. love these characters. I think my favorite is Estelle. such a sweet older lady ... look forward 2 more in this series when i have some free time. ( :
a short and unexciting story. A bit predictable and the characters weren't really complex enough to engage me. I got through it but I wasn't wowed by it. The writing was good if not very descriptive. I actually thought the characters were going to evolve into more interesting people but they stayed pretty flat and simple for me.
It wasn't an bad book it was just that it felt like it could have been much better
A cute Frienemies to Lovers story. I alternated between the audiobook and the ebook and was able to get through the book in a few hours. Looks like a fun series, so I can't wait to read the rest in the series.
Our heroine has trust issues. The people in her life kept small secrets, so that makes her sound spoiled because she feels entitled to knowing and it makes them feel inconsiderate because they are hiding things that are not a big deal. And when they finally all talk, it sounds like a Dr. Phil show.
