Sheila Kell's HIS series is easily one of my favorites.
The first two books in the series were amazing and put the author on my auto read list.
HIS Return is Jake's story.
After one confusing night with the one woman he's always wanted but never could have Jake's best friend tosses him out, sending him away while he's still trying to come to grips with what happened.
He ends up taking a dangerous job that takes him away for four years.
Four years of his life wasted.
Four years missing the woman he loves.
Four years without his best friend.
Now he's back and he intends to get Emily back. She's all he's thought about for years and he's not going to let her go a second time.
Emily always loved Jake, even though he's older she doesn't see that as an obstacle. She followed him and her brother around like a puppy when she was younger but he never looks at her the way she does him, moves on to another girl and each time it breaks her young heart. On her 18th birthday she goes to him. Finally she sees that the attraction is mutual she thinks she's finally going to be his only things don't quite work they way you want them to.
Her brother storms in and throws Jake out telling him to stay away from his sister.
Emily tried to protect him, tried to explain but for some reason Jake just looked lost. Now he's gone and it's ripped her heart out.
Fast forward four years and suddenly he's back. She doesn't know why he never fought for her just that he didn't and that's always hurt her. But she's got more to worry about than Jake, she stumbled onto something at work that puts her life in danger, and the life of someone she loves more than anything. Jake's in for a shock when he finally sees Emily again but he refuses to give up on her. No matter how much she tries to push him away she still loves him.
When she finds out the truth about why he didn't come back sooner will it change her feelings for him?
Then we have the ending. I'm heartbroken and contemplated yelling at MS Kell. I'm not giving anything away but Les & Trent. My heart is broken and I'm hoping the next story intends to fix this for me!

4.5 Coming Home Again Stars!!
This was my first book by Ms. Kell and I was a little concerned that I would be missing part of the story since this is the third book in the HIS series. I'm happy to say I had no problem whatsoever following this story without any real history of the Hamilton family and specifically Emily and Jake's history as the author did a wonderful job of getting me up to speed.
Jake has been gone for four long years and with no explanation of where he was and what he was doing. This devastated Emily because she'd always had feelings for him and when she finally gets the courage to take what she wants from Jake, the after effects of their night have resounding consequences for everyone in their circle.
When these two see each other again, it doesn't go as smoothly as Jake would have hoped and in fact highlights the danger Emily is in. Talk about keeping me on the edge of my seat...there's danger from an outsider that no one really is sure about, and then the chemistry between these two is still sizzling and there's only so long they can ignore their pull towards each other.
As the book progresses we get clues to who and/or what is the threat to Jake and those he holds dearest to him. We also get to spend a lot of time with the entire Hamilton family which I loved because it truly did give me the background I was looking for.
This book has it all.... suspense, second chance at love, excitement with secrets being revealed, and a precocious three-year old that captured my heart.

After having read and loved both HIS Desire and HIS Choice, I was excitedly anticipating the arrival of HIS Return. It was well worth the wait! We read a bit about Jake in the previous books, and knew he had disappeared after a heart-breaking family altercation. Fast-forward four years ... Jake has been located, having barely survived harrowing experiences. Everything has changed back home, and he must fight to reclaim the girl he abandoned. Will Emily welcome him home with open arms or has she and her young daughter moved on with their lives?
Fast-paced and full of angst and steamy chemistry, HIS Return delivers thanks to Sheila Kell's great writing and character development. If you've been missing Jesse & Kate, as well as AJ & Megan, they all make several 'guest appearances' in the third novel. I look forward to more of the HIS Series. Luckily for us, there are several Hamilton brothers just waiting to star in Sheila's future stories!

I was pulled right into this story. The story flowed well and the story kept you interested. The story has laughs, suspense, pain, and heartbreak.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first

This is Emily and Jake’s story. Jake regrets running from Emily. It’s been years but he is back and hoping to face her. But she is in the middle of a ton of danger with a surprise. Can Emily let go of the pain she feels about Jake? Can she let him not only protect her but back into her life? Can he forgive her secrets? Can these two build a relationship without the past getting involved? Or will the danger surrounding her prevent that al together?
I felt I was able to connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story in this series.

If you’re looking for a book to pull on your heart string along with solving a good mystery then His Return is that book.
Jake has been out of contact with the Hamilton and the woman he loved for four years. Now, Jack is back. With Jakes return, there are burning questions that must be answered.
Emily never knew that being an Accountant was so hazardous to your health. When Emily uncovers a Ponzi scheme at work. Emily is the way she was, tried to report the misdoings. But, she sooner learns that honesty may not always the best policy. Especially when you have someone other than yourself to worry about.
With the assistance from HIS, she must unravel the mystery and save her daughter’s life before it’s too late. But, she must also confront her past when her foster brother makes HIS Return.
His Return for a suspense thriller really played on one emotion. All through the book Sheila Kell pulled you in and made you one with the story. In a way, it was like reading Romeo and Juliet all over again, just with a different outcome.

My first experience with Sheila Kell was when I read ‘HIS Desire’. I fell in love with her writing and since then I have been following the HIS series. ‘HIS Return is book #4 and can be read as a standalone. A note of warning though after reading one of these books you are going to want to read the remaining books.
This installment tells Emily and Jakes’ story. Emily had a crush on Jake since she was six years old. As she got older, her crush gradually grew into something more meaningful. Jake had found her crush amusing at first, but as she blossomed into a beautiful young lady he realised that what his feelings towards was not brotherly. On her 18th birthday, Emily decided that she would seduce Jake, however, this would lead to her and Jake being separated.
Fast forward 4 years later we see Jake contemplating his decision to run away that fateful day. I guess when you are faced with the prospect of death, it causes you to evaluate your life choices. This is the situation that Jake has found himself in. He realises that Emily was the only woman he ever loved and he may never have the chance to tell her how he feels. Fortunately, fate would step in and provide him with a second chance at redemption.
Emily has gotten the pieces of her life together since that night when Jake rejected her. She is a forensic accountant and works with a prestigious firm. She discovered that there were illegal financial dealings taking place within the firm. This discovery would place her as well as her family in danger. Added to this she had to deal with the emotional upheaval caused by Jake’s return.
Their reunion was bittersweet. Emily was glad to see that he was alive and well, however, she was not willing to trust that he was here to stay. I understood how she felt. Rejection is a hard pill to swallow, and to be rejected not once but twice by the person you love can be devastating. It was this devastation that Emily wanted to avoid. Jake would have to prove that he was worthy of her love, and she was not above making him jump through hoops to demonstrate it.
This installment took a different angle from the previous books. The focus was more on Emily and Jakes’ relationship. The attention that was given to the incident that placed Emily in danger took up about 30% of the story. It was not the fast-paced and suspenseful read that I was expecting. The story moved slowly, but I believe that this was a deliberate move by the author. I believe that her intent was for readers to be totally invested in Emily and Jakes’ journey towards healing, forgiveness, and new beginnings.
It was more on the emotional side which intensified as the story came to a close. There was a particular scene that brought tears to my eyes. For me, this was a great display of the ultimate sacrifice that a person could make for the ones they love. Shocking secrets came to life. I certainly did not see that coming but it certainly answered questions I had while reading the previous books.
VERDICT:
Although this was not what I had expected, it was still a good read. I loved this book and I am hoping that Tristan’s story will be next. I can’t wait to find out more about him.
RECOMMENDATION: For fans of emotional second chance romance.

I have longed for Jake and Emily's story and, as such, was a tad nervous about whether or not Sheila Kell could deliver to my high expectations based on her previous books. There was absolutely no need to be nervous as Ms Kell not only delivered, but surpassed my expectations!
This story packs a powerful, emotional, punch that will leave you breathless as you wipe your leaky eyes! We hear the totality of Jake and Emily's story, about who they were then, who they are now, and what has happened to them both during the four years they were apart.
I will not mention anything about the story itself as I don't want to spoil it for anyone else. Suffice it to say, that it is adorable, hot, laugh out loud, heartbreaking, and will definitely leave you wanting more. With an excellent showing from the whole family Hamilton, this is an amazing addition to the HIS series that I would highly recommend. I will leave you with "Gulf Bravo" as I get a fresh box of tissues.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy of this, the third book in the series. First, let me be clear, this is NOT a serial or cliffhanger (one of my biggest pet peeves). This book has some serious "feels". I sat down to start reading it and stayed to finish it.. in one day. I just didn't want to walk away.
This is Ms Kell's third book and her story telling is obviously becoming smoother and more natural with each new book. It is smooth, well developed (and not just the main characters), and more importantly...interesting. This story seems a bit more complex than the first two but yet easier getting there. It also does a very nice job of keeping readers connected to and invested in the rest of the family.
I felt for Emily but fell in love with Jake... and I refuse to tell you their story! You'll just have to read it for yourself ;)

Fabulous!
I have loved every book in this series so far, and this book was no exception. I loved Jake and Emily's story. Just like the other books, it draws you in hook, line and sinker and keeps you on the edge of the seat. I love the whole Hamilton family and that love grows through each book. I can't wait to go on to read book 4.

In books one and two of the HIS series, we found out that the Hamilton family had a foster brother, Jake. They took Jake in when he was 10 years old, and he and AJ became best friends, as close as brothers, and although Senator Hamilton (the patriarch) never adopted Jake, he was still classed as part of the family and was treated as such. We also found out though that he had been missing for 4 years since AJ threw him out after finding him in bed with his “baby” sister, something that weighed heavy on AJ’s conscience and made him act the way he did in his book, the second book in this series: HIS Choice. Jake also happens to be Emily’s daughter Amber’s father.
This is all stuff we found out as back story in the previous books (In book one Jesse was upset he couldn't find Jake, and book two AJ was still upset he drove his best friend, someone his sister loved, away) and this book starts with Jake, having been undercover in a terrorist cell for the FBI for the past 4 years, getting rescued by his brothers just as he’s about to be killed live on the internet, after being captured and tortured for months. He needs time to recover before he sees Emily, and apart from telling him that Emily left Baltimore to go work in New York, he doesn’t find out anything more about her.
The only sister of the family, Emily Hamilton had been in love with Jake since she met him when she was just 6 years old. To the brothers she was their cute, but annoying, little sister who kept telling Jake she was going to marry him one day when she was grown up. She’d even tried enticing a reaction out of him when she was 16 but, despite the desire she saw flash in his eyes, he didn’t react and so she waited. She knew his issue was her age, he was 4 years older than her after all, and so she waited until midnight, the night she turned 18 to try again. That night resulted in her daughter Amber, but it didn’t work out quite how she imagined and once AJ found them together, he chased Jake away, leaving her behind and he never came back.
Unable to handle the memories of Jake, Emily takes a now 3 year old Amber and heads to New York to make a life for them now she is a qualified accountant. However, Emily discovers a possible scam going on at her work, but when she tries to do the right thing and report it, things suddenly get very dangerous. When Amber is kidnapped, and someone comes for Emily, she arrives home scared out of her mind but with an unexpected saviour, literally sitting on her doorstep… Jake.
From there it’s a story of getting Amber back, keeping her and Emily safe, finding out just who is after them and what is it they want? All the while, Emily has to deal with Jake’s return and introducing him to the daughter he didn’t even know he had. It doesn't help matters that one of the first things Jake says is him telling her they are getting married. No one tells a Hamilton what to do and how can she trust he's asking her because he loves her, and not just because he thinks it's the right thing to do because of Amber?.
Jake has to come to terms with the fact that none of his brothers told him he was a father during the time he was recovering, and his boss, someone who knows the whole family, knew all about it and didn’t say a word for the past 4 years. He wants Emily, he always did and has thought of no one else for the past four years. The night that created Amber, he thought it was a dream, so to be woken by his best friend furious with him, and Emily looking devastated, naked in his bed, had him running away, unable to face the family he loved. He's back now though, he's not going anywhere and Emily will be his, just like she always should have been, but how will he get her to believe him and trust him when she feels he abandoned her after the night they spent together?.
This was a good story, more drama than action like the first two, but still very enjoyable and the last few chapters… wow, some shocking, tearjerker moments had me welling up. A proper OMG moment. I can’t wait to read book 4 and give HIS Return 4.5 stars.

In books one and two of the HIS series, we found out that the Hamilton family had a foster brother, Jake. They took Jake in when he was 10 years old, and he and AJ became best friends, as close as brothers, and although Senator Hamilton (the patriarch) never adopted Jake, he was still classed as part of the family and was treated as such. We also found out though that he had been missing for 4 years since AJ threw him out after finding him in bed with his “baby” sister, something that weighed heavy on AJ’s conscience and made him act the way he did in his book, the second book in this series: HIS Choice. Jake also happens to be Emily’s daughter Amber’s father.
This is all stuff we found out as back story in the previous books (In book one Jesse was upset he couldn't find Jake, and book two AJ was still upset he drove his best friend, someone his sister loved, away) and this book starts with Jake, having been undercover in a terrorist cell for the FBI for the past 4 years, getting rescued by his brothers just as he’s about to be killed live on the internet, after being captured and tortured for months. He needs time to recover before he sees Emily, and apart from telling him that Emily left Baltimore to go work in New York, he doesn’t find out anything more about her.
The only sister of the family, Emily Hamilton had been in love with Jake since she met him when she was just 6 years old. To the brothers she was their cute, but annoying, little sister who kept telling Jake she was going to marry him one day when she was grown up. She’d even tried enticing a reaction out of him when she was 16 but, despite the desire she saw flash in his eyes, he didn’t react and so she waited. She knew his issue was her age, he was 4 years older than her after all, and so she waited until midnight, the night she turned 18 to try again. That night resulted in her daughter Amber, but it didn’t work out quite how she imagined and once AJ found them together, he chased Jake away, leaving her behind and he never came back.
Unable to handle the memories of Jake, Emily takes a now 3 year old Amber and heads to New York to make a life for them now she is a qualified accountant. However, Emily discovers a possible scam going on at her work, but when she tries to do the right thing and report it, things suddenly get very dangerous. When Amber is kidnapped, and someone comes for Emily, she arrives home scared out of her mind but with an unexpected saviour, literally sitting on her doorstep… Jake.
From there it’s a story of getting Amber back, keeping her and Emily safe, finding out just who is after them and what is it they want? This is a story based on confusion and a second chance that is filled with danger, excitement, thrills, action, romance of the hottest and drama, humor, heartbreak, passion and very steamy. I really liked Jake in the other books in this series. As we already know if you read them he had an altercation with his family and disappeared for a few years. He is back with his feeling in line and the women he loves in his sights only to find her in a big pickle that could mean life and death to so many.

Ok, someone once asked what makes a book four stars and not five, well this book is the perfect example of it. There's just something about a book sending you through multiple emotions that makes the difference. Being written with almost zero errors in it is another thing. This book, for me, is perfection. Five stars!

As with all the books in this series, this can be read as stand alone but is a bit more enjoyable in order since some previous characters are mentioned. Emily decides to confront Jake on her 18th birthday with her feelings for him but it doesn't work out. Her brother walks in and kicks Jake out and he doesn't stay and fight for her. Now, it's 4 years later and he's back. Can Emily forgive him when she finds out why he left and why he's been gone 4 years? She's also in danger after stumbling onto something at work she shouldn't have. So we get the romance and the suspense.
It was another great story but the left ended a but sad for a different couple. I hope we get that worked out in a future book. I'm definitely off to get that book right this second!!

His Return rocks. I love 2nd chance at love stories especially ones that keep you on the edge of your seat trying to figure out what will happen next. When the hero is a true alpha male and feels like he's has broken the trust of his brothers he walks away from the family he loves and makes some really stupid decisions. Jake truly didn't really realize how much he loved Emily until he walked away. After his capture, torture, and return to America he has to see Emily again. The story of their reconnecting and all the secrets they have to get through will stop your heart from beating and you will not be able to put this book down. Sheila Kell is a phenomenal writer with a way with words. She spins pictures in her readers minds and they are totally enthralled by her talent.

OMG, and this book was even better. I had to stop multiple times throughout the story and go, this is a book, these aren't my actual feelings. And wow does that not tell you how amazing a writer Sheila Kell is. I love these Hamilton boys something fierce but I think Jake Cavanaugh might have taken first place. He was so swoony, and made me fall in love with him. And Emily is such a strong women, and truly the best person for Jake. I loved these two together. Once again, amazing book that drags you in and has you refusing to put it down until you have solved the riddle that is currently on the pages. And this one, had a few good twists. Off to number 4. I know these stories will be re-reads!

Sheila Kell has done it again! I couldn't put this book down! I loved getting to see Jake as we have only heard that he is the Hamilton's foster brother!
I love Jake and Emily's story! They have been through so much and deserve to face what happened 4 years earlier. This book had me in tears often and when I think about this book I still want to cry.
I like how we get to see Reagan and Jason in this book. I would have loved to see more of Jason :)
I can't wait to see what Kell brings us next!!

His Return was similar the other books in this series. The book had the bit of suspense you yearned for from the other books in the series. Their was suspense and mystery where HIS comes in to investigate and keep Emily safe. This book had more of a romantic side with Emily and Jake. There wasn't all hot and steamy sex in this book as there was in the others. It was definitely an easy read. I'm looking forward to reading His Chance next in the series.

Heartbreaking
Me and Jake's story has sadness written all over. It didn't seem like they would ever catch a break. Even though they finally get their happily ever after, there is so much sorrow overlaying this happy time. Still a wonderful story with angst and suspense, but mostly love.

Jake and Emily's story is a second chance romance full of emotion, heat, humor, drama, secrets, angst, romance and danger. As with the previous titles in this series, there is a strong focus on love, loyalty and family. As I've come to expect from Ms Kell, this book is well written, entertaining and quite captivating. I had difficulty putting this book down, I was thoroughly engaged with Jake and Emily's tale.
Jake disappears without a word for four years after an altercation with his best friend and foster brother. When Jake is finally re-united with his family and Emily, the chemistry and feelings that never went away are re-awakened, but the path to finding their happy ever after is far from smooth.
Their story is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. This title focuses more on the budding relationship between the hero and heroine, rather than on the danger they are facing. The twists and turns, and secrets just keep coming, and kept me completely captivated with the story.
I loved how much the other members of the Hamilton family appeared in this title, and found the banter to be very fun and engaging. I look forward to reading the next title in this series.

Suspense, love, humanity
I love this series. This book had great suspense and warm characters with plots and subplots. I couldn't avoid tears in the scene near the end. Well written and enjoyable.

The mystery of Jake is finally resolved! The introduction to Jake in this story was fabulous. Emily inadvertently ends up in a dangerous situation at the same time as Jake's return. Their reunion is an entertaining ride. The story is action packed and has a lot of highs and lows. Sheila Kell has a great action romance here. It makes me want to read more!

I balled at the end. So much has happened in this book and so many emotions play out throughout the book. I have to say first Emily shame on you. I so was not happy with you at the beginning. At first she didn’t want to even hear Jake out, yes you just had a scare with your daughter but after when things settled you were really cold towards Jake. I mean you really can’t blame him leaving all those years ago after what your brother said can you?
When we see Jake at the beginning of this you are in a nailbiter wondering what is going to happen. when the Hamilton’s show you wonder what that will be like for him especially AJ. I was ticked at AJ because the whole situation of Jake leaving was because of him. So hope he felt guilty. I loved how they all though took everything in the way family would and they considered Jake family.
Jake was in love with Emily and was scared before to show it but not now. What we get though is emily pushing and pulling at him at first. She closed herself off thinking he was only saying he cared because of their daughter, than it was because she was afraid, another was a misunderstanding and the fact that all the Hamiltons thought what they did with that girl shame on them, when she finally accepted Jake’s love it was a very intimate emotionally powerful moment and we get more sexy times as the book goes on.
Their story wasn’t the only one though. We have Emily and her accounting firms misuse of funds, the Hamilton secret of the senator’s, the retribution towards Jake from the situation he was in before found and all the fallout when the secret is revealed. I also wonder about Brad’s anger and temper. What is the story there. and Les that just had me crying.
The story is just as explosive, fun, and full of danger and intimacy as the other two. We have the stubborn Emily and her snarky and witty quips and Jake with his eagerness to have Emily but also him battling demons and his past. Such a dynamic story with characters that draw you in and have you on your toes wondering what they will say or do next. A wonderfully story that is fast paced, explosive sexy and filled with danger and mystery while watching Jake win over Emily and a family try to find a way to heal once more. A great next book in this series and has me excited for the next to see who we learn more about and how they will fall in love.

As with my review from last year, this book effing rocked. The balance of "oh hell no" and "aww" moments was great. Sheila has a way of making you go from one emotion to another and back again. Top Notch and so worth the time to read!
I laughed, ooh and aww' and of course cried a couple of times. Always great to reread a. lol that takes you through the entire emotional ladder!!

Okay, dudes, its a Sheila Kell book... that alone is enough to say "yes please' I want that." It's as action packed at the first two in the series but the emotions in this one are enough to rip you apart, glue you back together and then she rips you apart again. LOL I do love this series hardcore. It's simply one of my favorites. Those Hamilton boys and now Jake by default, are just yummy. #Fact
Jake, oh man the poor man has gotten a bad rap from the beginning. Being best friends with AJ has always put him in a delicate place. Add to that the feelings he's always had for Emily, AJ's younger sister... and yeah. Fly meet sticky place. One drunken night his dreams come true.. and literally the poor schmuck thinks he's dreaming.. but he wasn't. He deflowered the sweet, but sassy Emily Hamilton. And the next morning he was tossed out of her life.
Fast forward four years and a helluva lot of worry, anger and stress later.... and all hell is about to break lose again. Why? Because Jake's back. He's been tortures over the years and just recently quite figuratively. But his love for Emily has never faded. Even if he thought she deserved better. She has always been his. Emily can't fight that attraction either.... and when the unthinkable happens... trouble strikes it sets off a roller-coaster of ups and downs that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

Although these stories are stand-alone, as in separate events, I feel they DO NEED to be read in order so please for the full benefit and to not spoil the other 2 books that are already out, read book 1 His Desire and book 2 His Choice first.
I gave this book a full 5 stars, although I am not that keen on the cover (sorry Sheila) but the cover does not fit my imagination's version of Jake. But in saying that the story was fantastic! the best one yet, and I have the next waiting to read, as soon as I finish my current Review Read.
Jake is mentioned in both the first two books, Jake the adopted son who left mysteriously (we find out why in AJ's Book - His Choice. Jake was a strong character that had a lot to deal with, leaving the family at a young age he chose to go undercover when his emotions were too mixed up for him to think clearly, immersing himself into a world, far from the one he grew up in.
But now he is back, he has been through hell and now when he finds out the truth he is going to have to deal with the fallout, that on top of the trouble Emily finds herself in means this book is action packed and will have you turning pages long into the night.
There are secrets in HIS, more than you can imagine and the author did a good job in weaving this intriguing tale into its dramatic conclusion. AND I did cry!
I have questions... hopefully they will be answered in the upcoming His Chance and if not I do hope that Sheila Kell will give the person who is named in His Return a book also after all he has been through, I think his may be the last book to be written but I hope he does get one. A True Suspense Romance!! This series just keeps getting better!! Jake and Emily's story is one of love and tragedy. After 4 years of searching for their foster brother, the Hamilton brother's finally get a lead and rescue Jake, but will the one person that he has loved for years be willing to let him back into her life? This is a wonderful story and one you can't put down!

This is the 4th book I have read in this series and as usual it was everything I expected from this author. Once I began reading this series, I became fully invested in the Hamilton family. Each book features a different family member's story. This book is the story of Emily, the only female in the Hamilton family and Jake, who she has loved since age 6. After a misguided one night stand, Jake takes off and does not return for 4 years only to find the love of his life, Emily has a daughter from him. This is a story of second chances, deep love and family loyalty. I found it to be both heart warming and thrilling. This story has HEA and is a stand alone story although, as always, the other Hamilton family members feature prominently in the story. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily and happily leaving a review for it
