She should be used to his rejection by now. She really should be. But she wasn’t, damn it. No, David Ashton still had the power to hurt her, more than anyone else she knew.
FINALLY! After what felt like the longest wait ever, we get the story for Ash and Cate, and Sully and Liam. And while you can read this book as a standalone, I highly recommend reading the series in order to truly appreciate the many intricacies, plot and character developments. A lot of the characters are introduced early in the series and while the author gives plenty of background in the book, it still has a much better effect reading in order.
Midnight Target was the perfect conclusion to easily one of my all time favorite romantic suspense series. Talk about high octane action! The bullets were flying, the suspense was spine tingling, and the romance was toe curling! So much love!
Being the only daughter to the head honcho and badass mercenary Jim Morgan means two things for Cate; an overprotective and borderline overbearing existence where her father would rather wrap her in plastic and lock her away in a safe tower, and having the only man that she's ever wanted, completely off limits to her. She's had feelings since she first met him when she was 17 and he was 25. Now, years later, his easy dismissal of her still grates.
Ash has been lusting for Cate just as long. She's not just too young but she's off limits to him because her father is the only family he's ever had that mattered. He knows a mercenary is not what her father wants for her. But when hard headed Cate lands herself in major trouble and finds herself in the crosshairs of a ruthless Cartel, he knows he'll stop at nothing to protect her.
The entire team finds themselves back together in a mission that puts all of their lives at risk and the danger is enough to make a few of them re-evaluate their life choices along with their hearts...
On the backdrop of the non-stop action, we get a secondary romance plot line for Sully and Liam. Years in the making, these two men finally face what's been in front of them...an undeniable lust and an undercurrent of something much more...
“Suck me.” His voice rang with anguish, his throat tight with desire. “Please, Boston, suck me off.” With a dark chuckle, Liam lowered his head again.
There's so much happening in this book that it was completely impossible to put down. This series reminds me of some of my top favorite RS series from Lora Leigh, Stephanie Tyler, and Pamela Clare. I love the secondary romance storyline we get in each book but I have to say this one was my absolute favorite in the series. Between Sully and Liam, and Ash and Cate, I thought my kindle would catch on fire from the sizzling chemistry.
This series couldn't have ended with a better book. I laughed, I cried, I swooned, and I was kept on the edge of my seat from beginning to finish.
Did I mention Sully and Liam? Because SULLY AND LIAM!!!!!

What a thrilling, action packed ride!!
Midnight Target is about Cate, the daughter of a famous mercenary. When she was seventeen she met her father, and while he would do anything to protect her, he doesn’t want her in the same life as his. Cate has since dropped out of a college and become a freelance photographer. She’s working for a reporter on a story in South America when she captures something dangerous on film, and then finds her life in danger.
Cate’s father comes to save her, along with one of his coworkers Ash. Cate can’t stand Ash after he rejected her advances on his years ago, leaving her humiliated and alone. Cate isn’t happy to see Ash, but he’s hopeful they can at least be friends. With tensions high and a criminal psycho after them all, things get rough and heated.
I’ve really only read Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus series, along with her MM books and Erin Watt; I hadn’t picked up any of her Killer Instincts books before. But I love her writing style and trusted she would deliver a good story and a fulfilling read. This book was such a fun and fast paced read. It reaches almost 450 pages and didn’t feel long at all, it just flew by! Technically this is the eighth book in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. I personally can vouch for this because this was my first time reading this series and I was able to navigate the novel easily, even with all the background players.
Despite this being about a couple that cannot be together (due to age difference in the beginning and daughter of the boss issues) there was only mild angst. I prefer a bit more, but it fit the tone and theme of the book. I really liked spitfire Cate and southern boy Ash, the two just made sense, even when they were friends only. I wish things had progressed a bit faster for the two of them, but enjoyed it very much once they did.
The best part about the book though? The surprise MM plot mixed in between Liam and Sully. That was my favorite aspect of the book, I found myself waiting impatiently for their POVs because I just wanted MORE. Elle Kennedy is amazing in general, but when she writes MM I want to use the worship hands emoji all the time.
Once my reading schedule opens up a bit more, I know for sure I will be going back and reading other books in the Killer Instincts series ASAP! And if you haven’t you should too!

4 Last Action Pack Stars
Midnight Target is a standalone and is part of the Killer Instinct series. You really can read these books out of order. I read the last three and I will go back and read the others.
These are action based, meaty books with alpha Heroes and sometimes (most of the time) alpha Heroines too. Think strong, independent women!
Midnight Target is the last book in the series, so it kind of ties out the ENTIRE series. There are a lot of characters in the book, but it only makes you want to go back and read the other books. This is Ash and Cate’s story with a side story of Liam and Sully! YAY for MM reads.
If MM isn’t your cuppa, don’t worry, it’s not fully mine either. I can read MM reads, but it’s not my first pick. I can say that even though I’m not a mega fan of MM reads, I enjoyed Liam and Sully’s story a lot. Maybe a tad (just a little bit) more than Ash and Cate’s story. **GASP**
Ash has always been attracted to Cate, but he’s Jim’s daughter, a man he respects, therefore Ash will not touch Cate. Cate has always had a crushed on Ash, but after several advances on her part, nothing will make Ash take that leap into … well her bed.
The book begins with a bam (like most of the books in the series) and Cate is in a lot of trouble. She needs her Daddy, Jim, to bail her out. Jim enlist the guys and the crazy adventure begins!
I have to say this story was EPIC. A few times I cringed and bugged my eyes out. It’s graphic and Elle Kennedy knows how to set up a story. You really do a get a feel of the characters motivations, passion and drive. And the villain is SUPER evil. This is something I like too.
The thing I really enjoyed most about this book is the love the characters have for each other. I’m talking about the bros. All the characters are willing to support, help and throw themselves in harm’s way to protect their loved ones. It’s touching.
The story is intense, the characters are wonderful and Midnight Target was a good last book to the series. If you are a fan of the series, you will not be disappointed.

Such a brilliant story!Midnight Target is an incredible mix of plot twists, action, suspense and two hot romances with the perfect amount of angst.
We have Cate with Ash and Sully with Liam!!I loved that Elle managed to fit perfectly the two romances. Both romance are hot and intense.
I find it addictive,and now I'm more eager to read the rest books of this series!!If you are looking for a fast paced,hot with action read this book was perfect!

Cate, Morgan’s daughter, quit college and moved onto photography, taking her all over the world, much to Morgan’s disappointment. He wanted Cate to stay in college, graduate, meet a nice (boring) man, and settle down. Morgan didn’t want his mercenary soldiers anywhere near his daughter. Unfortunately for Mogan, years at the compound meant that Cate formed a friendship and powerful attraction to the youngest merc of his team: David “Ash” Ashton. They got each other, connecting as friends before the attraction ever came into play. But every time Cate would see the heat creep into Ash’s eyes, he’d shut it down and run for cover. Finally, when Cate laid herself bare, Ash turned her away and broke her heart. Two years later she’s out on her own, loving her work and trying to forget she ever met Ash. That is until Cate snaps a photo and all hell breaks loose. Now Ash is back in her life trying to protect her whether she wants him there or not.
Ash has had it bad for Cate, Morgan’s daughter since she was seventeen and very off limits. She’s now of age at twenty-one, but Morgan, his boss, has made it clear that he wants better for his daughter. Maybe if it were any other man Ash wouldn’t care, but Morgan accepted him into his band of men, became like a father he never had, so his approval means a lot. What is and isn’t important quickly clarifies for Ash when Cate’s life is at stake. He burns for Cate, especially at the thought of losing her forever! Will she take a chance on him after the way he treated her?
Liam and Sully have been dancing around each other in several books. Their story has been quite tumultuous. Every time I thought the walls would come down, some wrench would get thrown in the works. Engaging in several threesomes over the years, they’ve got a look at each other in the height of passion and their attraction just grew and magnified from there. The sexual tension between them was palpable! Liam’s traditional upbringing was an issue. He didn’t know how his family would take the news that he’s bisexual. Sully, on the other hand, had past demons that made committing to a relationship seem impossible. I was thoroughly ready for these two to finally sort everything out and come together, and it was lovely!
Oh, unrequited romance! Both are filled with longing and pain from perceived rejection! With Elle Kennedy you just know the payoff is gonna be really hot, and really good! She definitely knows how to turn up the heat! In between the adrenaline rush from the life and death situations these two couples face, they manage to get some very sexy alone time!
I was really worried for the team, hoping none of my favorite characters would bite the dust, because everyone was a target to this psycho killer! The suspense part of this romantic suspense kept me on the edge of my seat at times!
I’ve loved the Killer Instincts series from the beginning, so I have bittersweet emotions knowing this is the last book. On one hand, I’m thrilled to finally get Sully and Liam’s and Cate and Ash’s romances, but I’m sad to say goodbye! Midnight Target was everything I wanted, especially in Sully and Liam’s case, and the epilogue was wonderful! If you haven’t had a chance to read this series, this is the perfect time to pick it up! All the books are out! Each couple had an exciting and passionate story, and who doesn’t love a good series binge read?!

Non-stop, heart-thumping action and emotionally nuanced romance involving not just one but two couples made Midnight Target my favorite in the series. Elle Kennedy has outdone herself again.
Sully & Liam -- Ugh. Emotionally satisfying and just the best in terms of emotional rewards. Readers of this series have been looking forward to their story as I was. I was a little worried that they might not get the same page time as Cate and Ash or that their story might get lost in all the action. But all those worries are for naught because Elle Kennedy did right by them. She gave them the story they deserved. And while I do still want a solo Sully and Liam boo (a novella, maybe?), I am satisfied with their HEA in this book...but I still want more.
Cate & Ash -- Man, these two have come a long way from when they first met to where they are now at the start of this book. Cate is now a photojournalist who just uncovered the biggest scoop of her life. When trouble finds Cate, she has no choice but to call for help from her father and his team. This puts her and Ash in the same place once again and the sexual tension just about killed me.
Between the action sequences and the emotional confrontations, readers are taken for a ride from the team's compound in Costa Rica, through the streets of fictional Guatana, to Boston...the action doesn't let up. Readers are given a bit of time between action sequences to get a feel for each characters, letting them in on the emotional stakes between the couples involved. Even then, the emotional intensity remains high. I'm not even going to go into the sexual tensions that ignited into steamy, sexual encounters that will have you fanning yourself because Elle Kennedy...wow! Just wow! Those encounters are not just sexy but so emotionally nuanced that you just can't help but feel more emotionally invested than ever.
I can't recommend this series highly enough. If you're looking for non-stop action with high emotional stakes, this series is for you!

4.5 stars. What a perfect ending to this excellent series!
Cate is the perfect replica of her badass father Jim Morgan, stubborn and feisty and with a love of adventure and adrenaline. She’s only 21 but the first 17 years of her life wasn’t easy, raised by her criminal grandfather and spending years seeing her mother, bedridden and brain-dead but kept alive by machines until Jim found her. There’s always been something between her and her father’s newest mercenary David “Ash” Ashton, but he always acted like just a friend and two years ago he broke her heart when he painfully rejected her. Since then she’s kept her distance, until now when working as a freelance photographer Cate snaps a picture of a notorious drug lord that was supposed to be dead and her father together with his team goes to rescue her, only to be critically wounded. Now Cate needs to spend time with the one man she never wanted to see again, and although she wants to hate him, her body and heart continues to betray her.
With Jim in critical condition, all of Jim’s operatives are called in to help with the revenge mission, which means Liam MacGregor and Sullivan Porter will have to face each other again after being apart for two years. Two couples trying to deny their hearts’ desires while fighting with the cartel, not knowing who will make it home alive.
Her stupid heart still thought he was the best thing she’d ever had the misfortune to lay eyes on.
I really liked Cate and how hard she fought for her independence to live the life she wants to live, full of risks and adventure and to not the protected in a glass cage like her father and Ash wanted.
He wanted to dirty that girl up until all she saw when she closed her eyes was his face, his body—him.
He wanted her to look at him with that undisguised desire and worship because he had the same feelings churning him up inside.
I loved the sexy Ash and how hard it was for him to keep his distance from Cate. He’s wanted her since the first moment he saw her but his loyalty to Jim and believing that he wasn’t good enough for Cate kept him from her. He hated the way he was forced to hurt her in the past and although I wanted to slap him for being such an idiot, it was so romantic that he loved her so much that he would do anything to protect her.
“I’ve been waiting years for you to get your head out of your ass and say those words to me, David Ashton.”
“Aw shit. You’re double-naming me again?”
“I wouldn’t have to do that if you weren’t so dumb. I think you do need me around. And of course you love me. Duh.”
Their romance was emotional and intense and I loved how they clashed wills and how they finally succumbed to their pent-up desires.
… he wanted to know if Liam was in the same depressing place as he was. If their friendship, that fucked-up attraction, had ruined him for everyone else too, or if it was just Sully who lay there at night, jerking off to the image of Liam’s sexy mouth around his dick—
I have been waiting for Liam and Sully’s book for what feels like forever. These two have been dancing around each other, driving themselves and me crazy. After Sully was so broken by his kidnapping and torture and then unable to cope with the things done to him, leaving the group and Liam to sail away on his boat, I was very worried that these two wouldn’t get their HEA. Luckily circumstances forced them together again and their reactions to seeing each other again was so sad, but also so hopeful.
Sully’s eyes shone with emotion. “You don’t belong in Boston. You belong in a jungle or a war zone or the middle of the ocean. You belong with me.”
Liam arched a brow. “That so?”
“Of course it’s bloody so. You and me, Liam. That’s how it should be. Nah, that’s how it is.” Sully offered a look of challenge. “You telling me I’m wrong?”
Sully was still determined to keep his distance from Liam, even though he was pining for him, and Liam didn’t want to risk his heart again on Sully, not with how he rejected him before. I loved seeing them try to fight their feelings, but unable to ignore the intense chemistry between them. And when they finally gave in… WOW!! The sexy times were SCORCHING and their romance passionate and raw. We learned so much about Sully’s past, which explained so much about him and I loved that he got jealous when he met an old flame of Liam’s. I really loved everything about their romance in this book
As always the plot was action-packed and gripping, but also with some sad moments. I loved seeing the whole team again and how they have all been doing.
I must admit at first when I heard this book was going to be two romances in one book, I was afraid that this author wouldn’t be able to do justice to both of them, but Elle Kennedy showed once again just how brilliant her writing is. I loved both romances and how emotional they were written and that epilogue was simply wonderful and perfect for this series. This is one of my favorite RS series’ and a must read for all fans.

Bullets and love go hand in hand…
I couldn’t wait for another instalment of Killer Instincts! Sully and Liam had me at the edge of my seat and my heart a mess. And then they just left me like that. Just left me! They’re back now though, along with Cate and Ash and the rest of this amazing family of the heart! A unique mix of suspense, nail-biting excitement and love means each story in this series has been a knock-out punch to the heart and the stomach… And this was stellar!
“He’d missed the camaraderie.”
And so had I. This series is all about family, loyalty and unconditional friendships. Even if individuals don’t agree – and they often don’t, quite loudly in fact – when the chips are down, everyone comes together for the sake of those unbreakable bonds. They curse, they laugh, and they squabble, just like any family or circle of friends. What makes them a little bit different is this may happen at home or within a life and death situation. To be so confident under pressure is a sign these men and women are special… And a bit crazy really – a good crazy though!
In this outing, more than double a standard book length, these two couples are dodging bullets while having a second chance to resolve their relationships. In some moments it is hard to tell which situation is more dangerous!

Cate and Ash are separated by a few years and even more by family ties. Loyalty and love go head to head when one can’t be separated from the other and the two aren’t on the same side. I couldn’t wait for another instalment of Killer Instincts! Sully and Liam had me at the edge of my seat and my heart a mess. And then they just left me like that. Just left me! They’re back now though, along with Cate and Ash and the rest of this amazing family of the heart! A unique mix of suspense, nail-biting excitement and love means each story in this series has been a knock-out punch to the heart and the stomach… And this was stellar!

And so had I. This series is all about family, loyalty and unconditional friendships. Even if individuals don’t agree – and they often don’t, quite loudly in fact – when the chips are down, everyone comes together for the sake of those unbreakable bonds. They curse, they laugh, and they squabble, just like any family or circle of friends. What makes them a little bit different is this may happen at home or within a life and death situation. To be so confident under pressure is a sign these men and women are special… And a bit crazy really – a good crazy though!
In this outing, more than double a standard book length, these two couples are dodging bullets while having a second chance to resolve their relationships. In some moments it is hard to tell which situation is more dangerous!

Well, we have come to the finale of the Killer Instincts series and we are finally going to see resolution for two couples that we have followed for several books. In what might be the team's most important and dangerous operation to date, it will require all hands on deck.
Cate Morgan and David "Ash" Ashton...
Cate has been in love with Ash since she was seventeen years old. And despite their eight year age difference, Ash has always had feelings for her as well. But she is the daughter of his boss, one of the baddest mercenaries around and a father-figure to him. So even if Ash really thought he was good enough for Cate, he respects her father too much to make a move and has hurt her by rebuffing her advances. Cate may be younger, but she is a vibrant, outspoken, free spirit. She won't let anyone else lock her away and keep her from pursuing adventure and the things she wants. But no matter how much her father and Ash want to see her safe, that might now always be possible.
Liam Macgregor and Sullivan Port...
These two men were best friends who shared everything. But when things got hotter than they expected and lines began to blur, they went running scared. And Sully has had some serious issues to recover from after an op went wrong. So they have not seen each other in a couple of years. Boom! Lust, longing, regret, fear, pain, and emotions are swirling around these couples in the middle of a treacherous op.
I adore these couples even when they frustrate me to no end! Ash has had his reasons for holding back and pushing Cate away, but it is still hard for him to resist her. And Cate has been disappointed by him and had her heart broken so does not trust it. Sully is so afraid of really being attached to someone and losing them that he has put up guards. He is good at avoiding, disappearing, and pushing people away. And Liam is still figuring out who he really is and what he really wants out of life. But neither men are sure of where the other stands and how their lives would be affected if they did take the risk. So in the middle of danger and chaos, there is plenty of romantic angst too.
This is a suspenseful, tense, emotional, action-packed, and painful ride. But there is also humor, steam. and romance. It brings back the entire team including some we have not seen in awhile, and it puts them right in the middle of one of their riskiest wars yet that becomes very personal. The team will be tested to its limits and there are no guarantees that everyone will emerge unscathed.
This finale had all the action, passion, danger, lust, love and drama that I was expecting. My only complaint was how a few things resolved that seemed a bit inconsistent of the characters and there was a situation I wished we got to witness first hand. I have been invested in these two couplings for so long that I was anxiously awaiting their stories. But their path towards finding their happy endings and redemption are not easy. There are plenty of frustrations, communication issues, hurt feelings, road blocks, and threats along the way. Not to mention all of the life threatening situations. But like with any of the novels in this romantic suspense series, it is worth the ride.

Midnight Target was the eighth book in the Killer Instincts series by Elle Kennedy.
Cate Morgan was the beautiful, strong willed, feisty and smart daughter that Jim Morgan had searched for seventeen years (Midnight Action, book five). They finally had a father/daughter relationship and he wanted only the best for her, which meant he wanted her to have nothing to do with his mercenaries for hire company that he ran with his wife. He wanted her safe, always. But Cate wanted the thrill seeking lifestyle that he had. It was in her blood and the mercenaries were her family.
David “Ash” Ashton was still the newest and youngest mercenary on the ops team. He respected Morgan’s wishes for Cate, although he lusted after her from the moment he met her. Not only was she eight years younger than Ash but Morgan forbid the relationship, so for years, Ash pushed her away at every turn.
The stage had been set in previous books, five through seven, with Midnight Target opening by Cate defying her father as a photographer on assignment in an impoverished crime ridden area, Guatana City, Guatana. Through Cate’s work, Cate was being targeted by a deadly Cartel. When Jim Morgan’s ops team came in to extract her, Cate’s dad was critically injured in the process. The team, including Ash, remained in Guatana to exact revenge. The storyline then focused on Cate and Ash’s interactions while revolving around the suspenseful plot.
Midnight Target was told in multiple POV’s. Cate and Ash were the primary but the other POV’s came from the various ops team members. It was well written and well developed with complexity, depth and dimension.
Kennedy also included a secondary storyline for Liam and Sully, two other ops members that had been battling their friendship and attraction for several books. It finally came to a head in Midnight Target.
Kennedy also included a killer epilogue that rounded out most stories, past and present. I’m not sure if there are more books on the horizon for the series, but I’m hopeful as Killer Instincts has been one of my all time favorite series to date. Either way, Kennedy remains one of my favorite authors and I look forward to everything she has to offer.

Elle Kennedy can write in any genre and I'm going to read it. I fell in love with her Killer Instincts series when I picked up Midnight Pursuits and I have devoured every book since. I can't believe this is the end of the series and I couldn't wait to see what would happen with my favorite mercenary crew.
Cate has grown up watching her mother suffer as she was kept alive by Cate's grandfather. Four years ago, though, Cate's life changed when she was united with her father Jim Morgan. As the leader of a mercenary team, Jim is just a bit overprotective of his only daughter. Cate is tired of being forced to live a normal, sheltered life by Jim and wants to make a difference as a freelance photographer. When Cate takes a picture of someone who is supposed to be dead, she finds herself having to call her dad in to help protect her. Jim ends up getting hurt while protecting Cate and his whole team reunites to protect Jim and Cate and the only family they've ever known.
I was dying to read Cate and Ash's book ever since they met. There was an age difference when they met and Cate was too young for Ash to make a move on, but now that Cate is in her twenties, there is no excuse for Ash not to act on his attraction. Well, except for the fact that Jim Morgan would personally torture and kill Ash for touching his daughter. It was so sad watching how conflicted Ash was over his feelings and loyalty to Jim while Cate couldn't understand why Ash would continuously reject her when he obviously had feelings for her. There was just so much emotion among the main characters, especially when Jim is critically wounded and they don't know if he'll make it. I have followed these characters for so long and have become so emotionally invested in them and I just wanted to see them all happy and healthy! Oh, and we finally got Sully and Liam's story, which we've been following for sooooo long. We really got two romances in one, which I really loved!
As always, there is intense action and heart pumping moments that had me praying everyone would end up okay. They dealt with a seriously dangerous man in this book and I had no idea if someone was waiting around the corner to hurt them at any minute. It was heart crushing when Jim got hurt and you didn't know if he would make it out or not. Every member of his team did not hesitate to run to his side and show the loyalty they've felt towards one another throughout this whole series.
If you have read and loved this series, you have got to pick up this concluding novel. If you haven't started this series yet, you must! Elle Kennedy is a master of addicting action and hot romances with characters who are kick-butt and insanely loyal to one another. I couldn't have asked for a better ending to an amazing series!

The final book in the series. Finally get Liam and Sully's story. Sigh... could not wait. Cate and Ash? Okay, sure, I'm game.
Now that I've read it, I really do wish these two stories were given separate books. Sadly, the only reason I took much enjoyment was because I was desperate to get the culmination of Liam and Sully's story. Ash was pretty good as a hero, too. Cate... more on that in a minute.
This is a book that really doesn't work well out of order. It's wrapping up an exciting series about a group of male and female mercs all finding their romances while out on dark and dangerous jobs. A big traumatic event brings back the large cast of characters in a reunion of sorts and also wraps up two story threads for the remaining single members of the group.
As I said, this is two romances for the price of one. One, I have been long anticipating, and the other, was a bonus story that I wasn't opposed to getting. That is until I discovered that they weren't going to get equal billing and the dominant story drove me nuts.
I will seriously end up on a rant about Cate if I'm not careful... oh never mind, who am I kidding, I'm going there.
I'm pretty sure I would have DNF'd this book on her alone if it hadn't been for the other characters getting their stories here. She is an immature brat and it was literally the waning pages of the book before I saw an ounce of maturity start to kick in and I do mean just an ounce because even in the epilogue she wasn't impressing me with adult behavior.
I wanted to feel she had extenuating circumstances because of her tough situation in which, Jim, her dad, rescued her from when he brought her home to be with him after her maternal grandfather hid her from Jim. But then she gets bogged down in daddy issues and her deep-seated need to prove she's a bad mama and can swim with the big fish (though what gives her this idea I never could figure out- she's had a little - a very little training from the pros at Jim's compound, but no experience and she's a beginning photographer). It was laughable. This is all going on while she is between the ages of seventeen and twenty-one. She tries to seduce one of Jim's mercs (Ash) from when she's seventeen to nineteen when he is in his mid-twenties and he does the right and honorable thing. He tries to make it easy on her by not accepting her overtures but trying to be friends still. Explaining about her being too young for now and to give college and college guys a chance, but she won't give up and it comes to a point when he has to tell her to get her clothes on and get out of his room. She spends the next few years claiming he is a jerk, etc etc.
At twenty-one, she still doesn't see that Ash was the mature person back then or even now. She doesn't see her dad's need for her safety (because hey, every parent is thrilled to death to have their kid refuse college education to run off and take pictures in a third world country run by drug cartels and in the midst of massive destabilization) is reasonable as to want her to head off to Africa to take her pictures-which is where she lied and said she is going. Jim is no more and no less than any parent who loves their child. He wants her to go to college and he wants her to see a normal, healthy life since she is still very young.
She isn't there a second it seems before she ends up the target of a cartel and gets her dad shot and everyone else in a bad situation, but instead of seeing reason or culpability, no that would be too much, she continues the brattiness even blaming Jim for all the trouble (because you know dad, you are responsible for the dirty cartel mole in the DEA where you sent my picture because that's what I high-handedly demanded). She gets lucky rather than because of skill and knowledge and runs with it.
At this point, I might add that her step-mom, Noelle, was not winning points with me either because she fed into the brattiness and immaturity by reinforcing it to Jim and the others and validating Cate. The excuse is 'little Catie is never going to be normal and will always be an adrenaline junky so we should just let her do unsafe things and get other people into danger and possibly get killed. Oh and Ash, you were so wrong not to want to take advantage of jail bait and disappoint her father who trusted you with his young daughter'.
This romance did not work for me. I saw nothing in Cate to admire or even like. Ash was a great guy and he wanted her, but I ended up pitying him for this more than cheered him on toward winning Cate.
I really wanted Liam and Sully's story and it was all I hoped for. Their road is not easy. Liam has acknowledged that he is bi and has taken steps forward even while he and Sully end up estranged for two years. Sully pushes everyone he cares about away because he as deep abandonment issues and he also believes Liam will always prefer to pretend to be a straight guy. Liam is well beyond that and ready for something with Sully, but he is tired of being pushed away and scared to put his heart out there again to get it smashed. I loved seeing them work through the anger, fear, and toward what can truly be.
The big situation with the drug cartel and the trouble there was a strong piece that had some interesting dynamics all its own with the two parents and children who ran the cartel. I liked getting that side of it. The ending came fast and was more an afterthought to all the other things going on in the book, but it worked, too.
So, I'm really not sure how to wrap up my thoughts on this one. On one side, I couldn't stand half the story, but the other half was all I could have wanted. Fans of the series will want this story and I would even go so far as to say that many probably won't react so strongly to Cate so it will be a much more satisfying read for them.

Liam is well beyond that and ready for something with Sully, but he is tired of being pushed away and scared to put his heart out there again to get it smashed. I loved seeing them work through the anger, fear, and toward what can truly be.
The big situation with the drug cartel and the trouble there was a strong piece that had some interesting dynamics all its own with the two parents and children who ran the cartel. I liked getting that side of it. The ending came fast and was more an afterthought to all the other things going on in the book, but it worked, too.
So, I'm really not sure how to wrap up my thoughts on this one. On one side, I couldn't stand half the story, but the other half was all I could have wanted. Fans of the series will want this story and I would even go so far as to say that many probably won't react so strongly to Cate so it will be a much more satisfying read for them.

MIDNIGHT TARGET is a book a lot of fans of the Killer Instincts series have been waiting a long time for. And Kennedy didn't disappoint. Having dropped out of college and separated herself from her father's influence, Cate travels to Guatana as a freelance photographer with a journalist-friend. And it's there that she ends up taking a photograph that necessitates the need for her father's contacts and aid. It's there that this one photo sets off a chain reaction of horror, loss and betrayal as the mercenaries go to war with a presumed-dead leader of a cartel. The phrase "and shit hit the fan" is basically a good pitch for this book.
Ash always had an urge to cup himself protectively when she was around, but he refrained because he knew, as with any predator, that you couldn't let them know you feared them.
This is one giant dose of a novel in the sense that everything feels bigger. The time jump was my first clue that things had not gone well for our heroes, and heroine, after the ending of book seven. We knew Sully and Liam were parting ways after Sullivan's terrible ordeal but couldn't know how long that would be. Not until the synopsis came out. It was sad to see it play out but so so necessary. Especially now as I reminisce over the course of the story for this review.
Morgan had spent hours with her to ensure she could take care of herself. Target shooting, tracking, self-defense. Why had he bothered with all that if he was determined to lock her up in a cage like a helpless little bird?
In addition to resolving Sully and Liam's arcs, we had the bonus of a second couple in MIDNIGHT TARGET. And for them that time was spent much differently. Instead of hearing about it, we were taken back and forth throughout the timeline, jumping one year, two, four, all over the place, in regards to setting the scene on Cate and Ash's story. It would've been one to thing to hear about the interactions between them that brought them to where they are in book eight but it was better to see it play out. That did mean things got a wee bit repetitive but it wasn't annoying in any way.
"I might not be a man whisperer like Noelle's chameleons but since when do men want to talk when they can be naked?"
As for Liam and Sully.. good. gravy. They were the highlight for me. Angsty, sexy, tortured, hopeful.. I definitely have a weakness for m/m, it's true, but their journey was so so good and felt so deserved. Which isn't to say I was disappointed with Cate and Ash. There was a lot of frustrating dancing around in the present-day scenes, making me enjoy the flashbacks a little more, but the gradual shift over the course of events therefore felt very natural. I almost tore my hair out near the end but thankfully Ash didn't disappoint me. Also, I really enjoyed the parallel to Jim and Noelle's situation which worked as a nice wake-up call for both of them (well, Ash) at a certain point and their hot and heavy times were.. damn. Same with Sully and Liam. But I mean, this is Kennedy. She knows how to wrangle a wicked sexy scene.
That was Sullivan Port's MO. When shit got too real, the man shut down.
When it came to the plot itself, I'll say this : holy damn. I mentioned that things felt bigger this time around and to hammer that home Kennedy did not pull any punches. The stakes were high, forcing Jim & co. to call in the reserves, those who had gone off the grid -- everyone. And it was so nice to see everyone interacting and get the little updates on their lives along the way. But of course it wasn't all rainbows and snark. The body count was shockingly brutal and, well, shocking, and as per the course of these high-stakes and intense books, things went to a dark place at times. Which is why I was kind of disappointed by how quickly the Big Bad plot was resolved. It didn't feel rushed but neither did it feel true to the rest of the story and the lead-up. Everything else though? I laughed, I was tied in knots, I swooned, I was frustrated. This book had me hooked.
Chris, if Ash thought Jim would castrate him for looking at Noelle funny, that punishment would be a birthday party compared to what Jim would do if he knew who starred in Ash's nightly -- and daytime -- fantasies.
MIDNIGHT TARGET is an absolute must-read for fans; I couldn't possibly recommend this installment to someone wanting to give this series a go because while these books might more or less stand alone, there's so much history for the banter and the interactions in this installment and this feels almost like.. a culmination for the series. I don't actually know if it's all over for these characters, for this series, but if it is.. that was one hell of a ride. And if there's more? I'm here for it.

I honestly was worried… how would Elle Kennedy give us the two full stories in one book and make them as amazing as the previous seven books in this series? I honestly didn’t think it was possible.
Consider me wrong.
I have been waiting since I started this series to get Liam and Sully’s story so when I found out it would also be Ash and Cate’s story, I felt slightly cheated. Like why can’t we just get two more books? But all my worries were mostly for nothing.
Cate, Jim’s daughter, has been living in a protective bubble for all of her life, and her father is determined to keep her safe, and if that means sending her away to college (whether she wanted to go or not) then that’s what he’ll do… and it also means his men, especially Ash, are off-limits. Jim’s the only person who ever gave Ash a second chance, and no matter how he feels about Cate, he can’t forget the debt he owes him… not even for the woman he loves and a chance at happiness.
Sully and Liam haven’t spoken in years… parting barely as friends they both have tried to move on. When the full team is called together the tension between them is thick, but when things come to a head, neither can deny their attraction… and yes love for each other, but the demons they are both fighting could be more than they can overcome.
With Jim critically wounded, the team must join forces and put emotions aside to protect not only Cate, but their entire families. With emotions running high, Cate & Ash, and Liam & Sully need to do whatever it takes to take out the Cartel leader who is determined to get his revenge while not letting the issues between them cause any distractions in order to make it out alive.
While I really liked Ash & Cate, I wasn’t really here for their story... maybe that’s not entirely true, but seriously I was waiting forever for Sully & Liam and I felt like this full book should have been theirs. I thought Kennedy did a great job of giving us the two stories, but if I’m being honest, I felt like Sully and Liam got cheated a bit here. I kind of feel like their story took a backseat to Cate & Ash. Now don’t get me wrong, both are wonderfully developed, but I just feel like Sully & Liam were a secondary story that we didn’t get as much of. Also… while I adored the ending for them, it felt so incredibly rushed. I wanted more!
As always though, Kennedy does an amazing job with the action in these books and of course it’s super steamy! I think Kennedy does a really great job of balancing both the suspense and action with the sex and romance!
There were times that Cate kind of bothered me… quite often she came off as a young girl just whining to be trusted as part of the team and yet did nothing to prove that she could be trusted to be a part of the team. I completely understood her desires so that wasn’t the problem, I think she just went about things the wrong way and as a reader that was slightly irritating. I did really love that there was a slight parallel for Cate/Ash to Noelle/Jim, and how they both kind of came to a realization about it.
So yeah, overall, a great addition to the series. Yes I wanted separate books, but Kennedy did a pretty great job of making this work. If you are a fan of steamy, romantic suspense, do not miss this series. I’m sad it’s over, but very excited for whatever Elle Kennedy is writing next!

We've come to the end of the Killer Instincts and I'm not going to lie. There might've been a tear or two shed about that. I still remember picking up the first book on a whim when it first came out, having never read this author before, and falling for both the group of men and women in it. Badass all around. And one of my favorite romantic suspense series nowadays, one I always recommend. And it's all coming to an end. Reading MIDNIGHT TARGET was bittersweet. It's the final chapter, even when I was hoping it didn't have to be. But I think Elle Kennedy has done it in a way that ties up all loose ends for us.This one is special because it's actually two romances. The first is Jim Morgan's daughter and the youngest man in his team. This pairing had plenty of friction because Cate is younger than Ash. He met her when she was still a teenager and he's dealt with his own attraction for years. Mostly burying it because if it wasn't the fact that she was younger than him (not by much, though) then it was the fact that he wouldn't feel deserving of her and he needs the approval of Jim Morgan more than anything after he was the one that gave his life purpose again. Lots of emotional struggles before they can come together and I think the author did so very well. I thought they were the "cute and sweet" of this story.
Cate is trying to do what she wants in life, much to her father's disapproval. She doesn't want to stay behind in the "safe" zone and runs into trouble while on a freelance photography job by taking a picture of a politician and a drug cartel lord that was believed to be dead. When news about this picture is leaked, her life is in danger and Jim and the whole team go to her rescue. I loved the action packed plot of this because it's not a quick and easy fix. There was plenty of meat and danger to this story and that kept me interested throughout. Meanwhile, the Cate and Ash drama was playing out in the background as well. Pacing for their romance was slow burn perfection. Even if with a bit of spoiled brat heroine thrown in for good measure.
But here comes the best part. Cate and Ash were cute and all that but I really needed to read this because of Liam and Sullivan. Yes, the two members of Jim's team that have been in love with each other and playing around this fact for way too many books. They've been through a lot. There's a lot of feelings that need to be dealt with. Life altering ones that call for changes and decisions. Lets just say I lived for the moments when these two were on the page even as they were gutting my heart. The yearning, the heartache. I was expecting something completely more explosive from them and it's not what Ms. Kennedy went for here. And as much as it's not what I was thinking it should be, it was still beautiful and I was ultimately happy to see them together.
MIDNIGHT TARGET managed to be packed with action and danger but keep a slow and steady pace. Not so much an edge of your seat read, but still captivating and a page turner. There were a few heart stopping moments and some that even drew a tear. Job well done for Ms. Kennedy on closing out a series in such a way.

I think this is the first book of the year I have given five stars to. This book tied two couples, as well as the original team perfectly. We had double the romance, double the mystery, double the action. I really couldn't have asked for a better book. This one sounded like the last one of the series, which I'm so incredibly sad about. I hope she continues but there's no more characters really to further the story, BUT I'M STILL GOING TO HOLD OUT HOPE BECAUSE DAMN. No one writes about a group of assassins/mercenaries quite like Ms. Elle Kennedy.
The story begins with Cate while she's working as a photojournalist in Guatana. She's looking for a break of the century and she finds it in the background of one of her photographs. She didn't know that it would serve as the catalyst that would render her father near lifeless from a few gunshot wounds, bring together Liam, Sully and Holden who hadn't worked with the team in over four years, and kill those around her... All while she deals with her conflicting feelings for David Ashton. The man who broke her heart and tossed her away a year prior. She all but laid herself bare but his fierce loyalty for her father appears will always lay between them, no matter how hard she tries to convince him otherwise. Ash, was everything I wanted him to be, although he was a minor character in the previous books, we understood that he was a good ole' southern flirt. Throughout this book, we see another side of Ash. Dirty-talking, loves-to-fuck, Ash. Which by the way, was incredibly awesome. Almost as awesome as how Ethan reacted to Juliet that no one saw coming. I don't want to give too much away of their relationship but damn, Cate was the heroine I could relate to, in every way. As a daughter of a super soldier, the need for adventure thrives in her blood, but Jim's protective. My favourite advancement during the story is that Ash trusts Cate to be the woman she knows she is despite the danger it might put her in.
ON THE OTHER HAND, we see what Liam has been doing for the past four years. Working a dead-end job that doesn't inspire the lust for violence, dating a woman who does't heat his blood like Sully did, and still closeted from his family. Although, he's still afraid of coming out to his catholic family, he's accepted his identity as bisexual, not to Sully's knowledge that is. When they come face to face, lust takes over and Sully kisses Liam but Liam pushes him away, pissed. Sully takes this as Liam is in denial about how he feels, when in reality, Liam is angry because Sully thinks he can just come back four years later, and throw caution to the wind despite the entire reason Liam and Sully didn't take the next step years before was because Sully didn't want to risk their friendship. As their relationship progresses, there are realizations and some intense moments.
The grouping of these pairs matched the story so damn perfectly. Both pairs stuck in a limbo they can't escape because of cowardice and fear that once they move forward, they can't have what they had before.
ULTIMATELY, the only thing I have left to tell you is READ THIS BOOK. READ THIS FUCKING SERIES. One of my favorites of all time. Up there with Harry Potter and the Mortal Instruments. READ IT, LOVE IT, FEEL WHAT I'VE FELT. There's nothing better than an arising romance in the midst of chaos.

To say I had high hopes for Midnight Target would be a ridiculous understatement. THIS is the book I've been waiting on since I really started to pick up on the spark between Liam and Sully. After being teased book after book, after having them apart, I wanted, no NEEDED, the payoff in this book. And it needed to be damn good. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. While Liam and Sully were the pairing I was really waiting on, I have to say that I was so happy to see Ash and Cate get a chance at love, too. I thought (and hoped) there might be something brewing between them in previous books, so I was thrilled to finally watch that come to fruition.
I'm not going to get down into the plot and details on this one. It's truly best if you just experience it on your own and I don't want to ruin a thing for you. What I wills ay is that this book was HOT. But, it was more than that. The suspense had me more or less on the edge of my seat, literally biting my nails (a habit I quit more than a decade ago). I never once assumed that everyone would make it out the other side in one piece... and I actually might have intentionally spoiled the book for myself because I wasn't sure my heart could take all the action, not knowing if everyone would survive. There were also a fair few feels mixed in the suspense and sex this time. Total package, y'all.
I'll admit, at first I was a little sad to learn that Liam and Sully wouldn't get their OWN book because I had waited so long for the climax (pun intended, haha) of their story. My sadness was quickly assuaged as I realized how perfect the pairing of Cate and Ash was. The two couple's stories complemented each other perfectly. It was kinda like a bonus — getting two amazing love stories in one book. I can say I honestly think Killer Instincts series fans will love this book. Liam and Sully, Cate and Ash make for the perfect wrap up to a series I've been obsessed with since I started bingeing it about a year ago. And the epilogue? Total fucking perfection. Just like the rest of this book.

To say I had high hopes for Midnight Target would be a ridiculous understatement. THIS is the book I've been waiting on since I really started to pick up on the spark between Liam and Sully. After being teased book after book, after having them apart, I wanted, no NEEDED, the payoff in this book. And it needed to be damn good. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. While Liam and Sully were the pairing I was really waiting on, I have to say that I was so happy to see Ash and Cate get a chance at love, too. I thought (and hoped) there might be something brewing between them in previous books, so I was thrilled to finally watch that come to fruition.
I'm not going to get down into the plot and details on this one. It's truly best if you just experience it on your own and I don't want to ruin a thing for you. What I wills ay is that this book was HOT. But, it was more than that. The suspense had me more or less on the edge of my seat, literally biting my nails (a habit I quit more than a decade ago). I never once assumed that everyone would make it out the other side in one piece... and I actually might have intentionally spoiled the book for myself because I wasn't sure my heart could take all the action, not knowing if everyone would survive. There were also a fair few feels mixed in the suspense and sex this time. Total package, y'all.
I'll admit, at first I was a little sad to learn that Liam and Sully wouldn't get their OWN book because I had waited so long for the climax (pun intended, haha) of their story. My sadness was quickly assuaged as I realized how perfect the pairing of Cate and Ash was. The two couple's stories complemented each other perfectly. It was kinda like a bonus — getting two amazing love stories in one book. I can say I honestly think Killer Instincts series fans will love this book. Liam and Sully, Cate and Ash make for the perfect wrap up to a series I've been obsessed with since I started bingeing it about a year ago. And the epilogue? Total fucking perfection. Just like the rest of this book.

I can always count on an Elle Kennedy book to get me out of a reading slump! Midnight Target was SO GOOD, I was finding it hard (*snickers*) to put it down. These books just keep getting better and better; fans of this series will love this one.
The Killer Instincts books are perfect if you're looking for something action-packed and steamy, with well-written characters that will keeping you eagerly turning the page.
Even if you're not normally a reader of romantic suspense, you'll find that these books have a little something for everyone. (And that something is SEXY AF.)

Midnight Target hits the ground running and never lets up. Emotions are high, sexual tension runs hot, and the action is top-notch. As the final book in the Killer Instincts series, the stakes are bigger than ever with the full force of Jim’s mercenaries and Noelle’s chameleons all out for blood when Jim is critically wounded. Elle Kennedy definitely knows how to send her badass heroes and heroines off in style, and this is one hell of a satisfying end to the series with almost all of our favorite characters getting a moment or two to shine and not one, but two sexy-as-sin romances taking center stage.
Cate Morgan grew up in a gilded cage, a prisoner of her maniac grandfather until she was found by her father, Jim. Cate’s cut from the same cloth as her father. She’s a thrill-seeker, someone who – even as a teenager – knew she wasn’t cut out for a normal life. But Jim wants her wrapped in cotton, and his overbearing protectiveness pushed her away. Now a photojournalist on assignment in South America, Cate’s life takes a turn when she snaps a photo of a supposedly dead drug dealer. With killers hot on her heels, she has no choice but to call her father. And when Jim’s wounded rescuing her, Cate is forced to work with David “Ash” Ashton – the one man she wants nothing to do with. Ash broke her heart, and nothing makes her madder than the fact that she’s still attracted to him.
Ash has had it bad for Cate for years, but he knows he can never have her. Their difference in ages and the fact that he’d never do anything to lose the respect of Jim, the man who gave him a chance, a job, and a home, makes her off-limits. But with blood running hot and danger around every corner, the sexual tension between them is about to boil over. Cate and Ash are two people clearly meant to be together, and I loved the flashbacks that showed their history, built up the tension, and had me rooting for these two to get together. It isn’t easy for them. Ash’s loyalty to Jim means he tries to push Cate away, and he hurts her in the process. But readers can see how completely head over heels he is for her, and the fact that he’s so totally in love with her just melted my heart. They come into their own both as individuals and as a couple in Midnight Target and their growth is fantastic to watch.
As previously mentioned, there’s a second romance in this book and it’s the one I’ve been waiting for: Liam Macgregor and Sullivan Port. For the past few books Ms. Kennedy has been ramping up the tension between these two smokin’ hot mercs and I’ve been dying for their story. It’s been two years since Liam and Sully last saw each other and when they reconnect…holy smokes. Attraction, longing, anger, fear, and love are all intertwined and bottled up in each of the men. Their confrontations are insanely hot and you could power a whole village with the emotional charge from their scenes. Every minute Ms. Kennedy made us wait for their love story was absolutely worth it because Liam and Sully rocked. The angst, raw desire, and pure want between them packs one heck of a punch and I stayed up way too late reading Midnight Target because I could not put the book down until Liam and Sully got their happily ever after. Nobody can mix passion, anger, and love together quite like Elle Kennedy, and Liam and Sully are perfect examples of her talent.
I could spend pages going on about Liam and Sully because they rank right up there with Jim and Noelle when it comes to favorite couples of mine, but it’d be remiss of me not to mention the action outside the two romances. The mission is personal this time for all the characters and the upped stakes definitely kept me engaged. Ms. Kennedy isn’t afraid to make things dark and gritty, and with a drug lord targeting first Cate, then the entire team, the suspense is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. The world these mercs and assassins live in is bloody and grim, but it makes the characters and romances shine all the brighter in contrast.
Midnight Target has raw passion, high stakes, boundless energy, and two powerful love stories. It’s a stellar read fans old and new of the Killer Instincts series are sure to enjoy. Every obstacle the protagonists face is worth it when there’s an ending as satisfying as the one in this book. I loved Midnight Target and I cannot wait to read it again and again!

Unequivocal five stars!
Oh wow! So often the final book in the series is a leetle bit of a let down, too much of an ensemble curtain call and not enough plot - not this time. Elle Kennedy has knocked it out of the park with the finale to what has been a fantastic series.
We get not one but two romances, both of which have been brewing for some time and both of which are totally perfect.
We get a totally evil baddie who scared the c&%p out of me, he was really vicious and nasty and so were the rest of his family.
We get to see all the old characters again in a mission in a war-torn part of South America.
There is terrible tragedy, sadness and loss. Some great characters die.
And, because IT IS Elle Kennedy, there's also explosive, fan-your-face, hot-hot-hot sex and lots of it.
So, the plot!
Cate, Jim's Morgan's daughter that he only discovered a few years ago, is a photographer working in Guatana City, Guatana with a journalist who is writing a piece on the rapid decline of Guatana as rival drug cartels have overthrown law and order. Cate is trailing one of the corrupt politicians trying to find evidence of a hush-hush meeting involving former General Aguilar, however what she discovers when she reviews her photographs later is a picture Mateo Rivera, the head of a drugs cartel who everyone believed had been killed in a car bombing. Cate sends the photo to Jim for verification, who sends it to his source in the DEA, the next thing Cate's hotel is under siege and cartelists are killing women left, right and centre. There's a mole in the DEA and Rivera wants Cate dead.
From the very start this is classic Killer Instincts, fast and furious, big action pieces, war rooms and flashy toys.
Words can not express how happy this book made me, it was everything I love about this series.
If you have read the others, you will love this one. If you haven't, why on earth not? There's hot DEA agents, Navy SEALs, Marines etc. There are scary assassins, drug cartels, international travel, espionage, hot sex and romance.
Goodbye Jim Morgan and your team, I'll miss you all.

I wanted to love this book because I love this series and I've been looking forward to Liam and Sully's story for so long and that's probably why I ended up really disappointed. I've really enjoyed almost all of the characters in this series but there was always something special about Liam and Sully. read the book with the beginning of their relationship before I'd every even thought of dipping my toes into the M/M world and yet I loved them and really wanted more. In fact I think it was because I was so drawn to these two guys that I eventually read my first M/M book. Their relationship broke my heart and I waited patiently for this book so that we could see them again and finally mend what was broken. Unfortunately Liam and Sully took a big backseat to Cate and Ash. When I said earlier I liked almost all the characters in this series the exception would be Cate. She came across as a spoiled little girl trying to convince everyone she was a woman. She made some bad decisions and then refused to take responsibility for them. When she whined that is wasn't her fault her dad was shot I wanted to smack her. When she wouldn't let go of her anger toward Ash because of the way he finally got her to stop trying to seduce her I wanted to smack her. She was 17 and he was in his 20's surely she could see in hindsight that he did the right thing. I can understand some of her frustration with her dad but she isn't a highly trained agent and so she isn't on equal footing with the rest of the team. In fact if this wasn't also Liam and Sully's story I just might have DNF'd this book. I wanted more Liam and Sully - they didn't see each other until almost half way through the book and then they only had a few critical scenes together. Even the epilogue which should have had more Liam and Sully was centered around Cate and Ash. I give this 3 stars because I did love what little I got of Liam and Ash and I enjoyed seeing how the rest of the team was doing and there was a lot of suspense and action. I even liked Ash but Cate basically ruined this book for me.

Midnight Target was one of my most anticipated reads of 2017 and this book met every single one of my expectations. I absolutely loved this book and it is one of my favorites of the series. This book delivered everything I have come to love about this series.
Cate and Ash had fantastic chemistry and I adored them together. Cate has become such a formidable force and I adored her. She is strong and feisty and takes no crap from anyone. And Ash is just sex on a stick. He is so easy to fall for and I loved him. These two together were incredible and I loved their dynamic.
But let’s be honest here… Sully and Liam are the ones who stole the show. Their story has been building for what feels like forever and it was so wonderful to see it all finally come to a head. I absolutely adore those two and they ripped my heart to shreds. The tension between them is ridiculous and I just love them. These two have been my favorites for a while and I was so glad to finally see their story come to a close. It broke my heart in the process but it was wonderful.
Midnight Target was great in that it brought the whole gang back together. Almost everyone makes an appearance and I loved catching up with everyone. I have loved this series and I loved seeing everyone again. Elle Kennedy has created such a great cast of characters and I am so sad to have to say goodbye.

O-M-G!! I can't believe it's over!!! Hands down this is one of my Top 5 favourite series of all time. And now it's all over. Damn you Elle Kennedy! I want to live my life forever in Jim and Noelle's world. If you haven't read the other books in the series I suggest you stop reading. Back track and catch up. Every damn book I fell more in love with each character. And now that it's over I feel bereft and sad. Damn you Elle Kennedy!
Ms Kennedy said from the get go this would the last book in the series and she would do both Cate and Ash and Liam and Sullivan's story in it. I couldn't fathom how she would give both of these couples the stories they both deserved but I should have never doubted her. She had a fine balance between the two and I gobbled up every page just to see what happened next. As usual there was the action pack drama of drug cartels and a 3rd world country on the brink of a revolution. This time round Cate finds herself in a spot of trouble, forcing her to contact her infamous merc father Jim Morgan. This then rallies the troops to come to her aid and the action ensues. The descriptions of the fighting and bloodshed was realistic and gruesome at some point. Elle Kennedy does a fantastic job of depicting man's vices in the worst form and even though I'm looking for that perfect fairy tale, it was not to be. Heads up: people die. People you don't want dying, die.
If you've read the other books you will know that both couples have been building up to this. The story line alternates between the past and present between Cate and Ash. And Liam and Sully are dealing with their own issues of trust, commitment, family and love. Their build-up and eventual explosion was hot and intense. Cate and Ash had their own hotness factor but on a different level.
I loved that we got glimpses of the other members of the team. With so many characters in any given scene, Kennedy did a great job in making sure the conversation flowed nicely and you weren't confused. Out of all the characters, Derek Pratt was my ABSOLUTE favourite. Glimpses of him and the changes that occurred made me smile like a fool. Amazing what the love of a good woman and a kid can do to you.
Kennedy did a great job in tying up all loose ends. I was completely satisfied with the ending and the summary of each person. I HATE that this series has ended but am content that nothing was left on a cliffhanger.
Trust me when I say this series is worth it. Every book was well written and thought out. You can't help but fall in love with each character. This last installment brought the whole gang back together and gave the perfect ending to a wonderful series.
Ms Kennedy said from the get go this would the last book in the series and she would do both Cate and Ash and Liam and Sullivan's story in it. I couldn't fathom how she would give both of these couples the stories they both deserved but I should have never doubted her. She had a fine balance between the two and I gobbled up every page just to see what happened next. As usual there was the action pack drama of drug cartels and a 3rd world country on the brink of a revolution. This time round Cate finds herself in a spot of trouble, forcing her to contact her infamous merc father Jim Morgan. This then rallies the troops to come to her aid and the action ensues. The descriptions of the fighting and bloodshed was realistic and gruesome at some point. Elle Kennedy does a fantastic job of depicting man's vices in the worst form and even though I'm looking for that perfect fairy tale, it was not to be. Heads up: people die. People you don't want dying, die.
If you've read the other books you will know that both couples have been building up to this. The story line alternates between the past and present between Cate and Ash. And Liam and Sully are dealing with their own issues of trust, commitment, family and love. Their build-up and eventual explosion was hot and intense. Cate and Ash had their own hotness factor but on a different level.
I loved that we got glimpses of the other members of the team. With so many characters in any given scene, Kennedy did a great job in making sure the conversation flowed nicely and you weren't confused. Out of all the characters, Derek Pratt was my ABSOLUTE favourite. Glimpses of him and the changes that occurred made me smile like a fool. Amazing what the love of a good woman and a kid can do to you.
Kennedy did a great job in tying up all loose ends. I was completely satisfied with the ending and the summary of each person. I HATE that this series has ended but am content that nothing was left on a cliffhanger.
Trust me when I say this series is worth it. Every book was well written and thought out. You can't help but fall in love with each character. This last installment brought the whole gang back together and gave the perfect ending to a wonderful series.

It was nice seeing all the characters from this romantic suspense series in the story about two favorite couples and when there was action is was exciting but most of this book was about the angst within the couples and it got repetitive. The flashbacks could have been left out. All of Jim Morgan's team including Liam, Sully and Ash come together to save their leaders daughter Cate.

Cate finds herself on the run, in a country overtaken by a drug cartel, while on a photography job and calls in her father for help. He and some team members race to her rescue with tragic results. The mission becomes chaos forcing the rest of the team in to assist. This was exciting from the beginning with non stop action and danger. It seemed darker, with more violence and heartbreak than the previous books. The author took risks in this one which totally paid off. I loved that this book included everyone, even one former team member who has been MIA and Liam and Sully who quit at the end of the last book. We get two couples and their quest for their HEA. (With assist from Noelle and her hilarious, not so subtle attempts at matchmaking). Cate and Ash, in which flashbacks are used to explain what caused their friendship to derail, and Liam and Sully. Both couples are HOT. I am so sad that this is the last book in the series but I'm satisfied how it ended. I can honestly say that this is my favorite RS series that I've read to date. 5 stars for the book, and 10 stars for the series.
