John ‘Griff’ Griffin is a man who plays by the rules – always and forever. No exceptions, no extenuating circumstances, no way and no how. This was his attitude in the navy and in the SEALs, and it’s his attitude now as he works as a bodyguard at Solid Security. No straying outside the lines, no getting creative with protocol. Definitely no crossing boundaries where the subject of a honeypot op is concerned. After all, staying safe in dangerous situations is all about staying in control – and Griff knows first-hand that life is full of dangerous situations.
What he doesn’t know is that in his life, the most dangerous situation by far is Claire Worthington.
A spoiled, selfish rich bitch who helped her ex-husband run a billion-dollar Ponzi scheme, Claire is hiding out from the press and angry former investors. Except – she’s not living like a woman with a massive escape fund stashed away in offshore accounts. She’s also not living like a woman with one foot out the door. No, she’s living her life in Denver like… she means it. Like she’s happy. Like she’s starting again, but humbly and on her own terms.
When Griff decides to break his own rules and fall for Claire, it’s the best, most liberating decision that he’s ever made. It’s also the riskiest, seeing as he’s lying to her about everything: his name, his job, the fact that he’s been sent to get close to her and gather information. If he told her the truth, would she forgive him? Should she forgive him? And what if she’s a criminal on-the-run after all? Will Griff care? Or will he turn on and turn in the woman that he’s come to love?

I liked it, but wanted Griff and Claire's story fleshing out a lot more. Whilst it was great to catch up with the other couples in the series, I felt they detracted from what could have been an amazing book.
#8 and final book of series and I'm sorry to see it end. I'm a huge fan of Marysol and have read all her books. The best are the ones that aren't in the series. Enough editorial, onto the review.
Griff is my favorite male in the series. He's strict, by the rules and follows to the exact letter. We met him with Selena in an earlier book, if you haven't read, please do.. gives you some insight into Griff as well. Although he's not that complicated. Enough to say he is strictly by the book. When he is cleared to return to work his first case is that of Claire Worthington whose ex ran a Ponzi scheme that bilked people out of billions, including the woman who hired Dallas' firm to get the goods on Claire after she spots her in Denver, "looking happy" which this woman felt she had no right to look happy. I had my reservations about that meeting with this woman, Dallas and Griffin, but let them go. Griff goes on assignment and watches Claire who is using a different name,as is he.. All Claire wants is to put the past behind her, including her degrading, demoralizing piece of crap ex. Claire in happy with her new start in Denver, loves the mountains, making her own friends and gaining her self esteem back as well as getting a new business off the ground. I should add here that while then men assumed Claire would be living large, she doesn't have a pot to piss in or a window to throw it out of. Griff soon sees this side of Claire and he violates the one and only rule, "don't get involved with a client" He falls hard and so does she. And then the inevitable happens, things blow up in their faces, Claire discovers he's lied and runs away, yet again. Just disappears. I liked how Marysol let months go by, not days or weeks. Months. And then after they meet again, more months. I was annoyed with Dallas for taking Griff's resignation..he should have seen that one coming. But it wasn't my story to tell. I loved how Marysol caught us up with all the other characters in the previous books and how they were doing and where they were at in their lives. We get just enough to know that all is well. We meet a new character who will be a lead into a new series in the future. I love how Cole was so protective of Claire. This was a great read. I am sorry to see the series end, but I am not beneath rereading the old books again. Yes, they're that good. Marysol tackles the tough parts of life in many of her books. I appreciate that about her writing. Read this book... read them all. I read them out of order and has no trouble following the people and stories, each are stand alone while the characters reappear in most of them. Nice work Marysol! I loved it!
I enjoyed this book. Although there were some flaws, overall it felt less rushed than some of this author's other works. I did enjoy the plot, and both Griff and Claire were interesting characters. Even though their relationship started out on a lie, I liked how it progressed. I did like catching up with the other characters (although it has been a while since I read the rest of the series so sometimes I was trying to remember who people were).
There were a few things I didn't like. First, I was confused about that brief scene in the beginning with the receptionist--was there a point to that? For a second I thought she was going to be the heroine, but then we never saw her again. Not sure if she will show up in a future book and that was the reason for that random scene?
Also, I was annoyed with the initial meeting with Griff, Dallas, and the client. They automatically assume Claire is guilty because she is happy? I mean, I get the client thinking that, but why are the professionals automatically assuming that because she looks genuinely happy in some pictures she must be guilty? There were so many reasons for her happiness (maybe she was having an affair, always hated her husband, already had a new guy, etc.) so I'm just not sure how they all automatically jumped to that conclusion.
While I did like catching up with the other characters, it would have been nice if those scenes could have been worked a little more seemlessly into the plot. The wedding made sense where they were all invited, but the initial scenes with Emma, Olivia, etc. did not. I understand that there are a lot of characters in the series at this point making this really hard to do, but that would have been me preference.
Overall, these annoyances knocked off a star for me, but it felt like the writing was better than previous installments. Maybe it is just because it has been a while since I have read some of her works, but I remember finding the dialogue and writing awkward at times. I didn't find that nearly as much with this book, so that was a plus. I am looking forward to more from this author.
I have really enjoyed the Enemy within series. I like how the author keeps updating characters from precious books, although if you hadn't read the whole series I think that the little bit of back story about characters might not be enough to allow the reader to understand the significance of this characters. Reading the whole series brings this family of characters to life and allows you to see into their world.
First off I just want to say that I love Marysol James and I’ve read and enjoyed every one of her books. I’ve loved every book in this series and it was great to catch up with all the previous characters, however I felt this overtook the book. Unfortunately for me that took away from Griff and Claire’s story and I felt this needed to be fleshed out a lot more.
I really enjoyed Griff and Claire story, so sorry it's a goodbye to the series, but nevertheless the book was awesome. We not only got to see Griffin and Claire fall in love, but we get to see and say goodbye to the other couples in the series.
Loved this series.....Loved the way the characters from Book 1 stayed throughout the series. I loved the strong women and how they complimented their hot. Hot love scenes and positive powerful messages through the women.
