It was an ok read. Nothing new here. I didn't love this book, nor did I hate it. Anyway, this was my first read from this author and I'm impressed by her writing style. Moreover, these Cunningham brothers are all swoon-worthy so I will continue this series for certain.

Oh, by the way, this book's hero is amazing! Yeah... Ryker alone made it worth reading!

Awesome start to what I hope to be a great series. We are introduced to the brothers in Ryker's family (future hero's)

Second chance stories can be iffy. There is always the question of if they waited for each other, is there someone in their lives now etc....

Ryker and Mary Ann were extremely young when they were separated (13 years old). Distance and intervention from a meddling family member kept them from keeping in touch. They happen upon each other again when Mary Ann needed him the most.

-great hero who loved h unconditionally
-heroine who was finally standing up for herself
-no ow drama (no real mention of other women in his past and he didn't come across as a manwhore)
-om drama -
-short, but sweet epilogue. I hope we get more from this couple in future books.

also, something that some might want to be aware of....

This was a short and sweet one. The H was almost too good to be true and there were many cliché scenes but overall it was enjoyable.

No character development. The verb tense changes constantly, even in the same paragraph. All of her physical injuries are forgotten about as soon as she leaves the hospital except for her broken foot. I can suspend disbelief to an extent for a well written story, but this one is beyond unbelievable that she would heal both physically and mentally as quickly as she did. I wish authors would stop using domestic abuse as a plot crutch when they are not willing to explore the consequences for the victim and healing process along with it.

K. Langston tricked me!! When I signed up for this I didn’t realize it was a novella intro into her new series. I don’t really care for novellas especially as an intro to a series. They typically don’t pack enough punch for me to believe the couple are “it” for each other. I do have to say that I really enjoyed Maryann and Ryker’s story.

The Officer’s Promise is a second chance story centered on Maryann and Ryker. They were together in their teens and were deeply in love; now I hear ya, 13 year olds in love? What do they know? I really loved the flashback scenes with Ryker and Maryann. The author really made you feel their love; they were very sweet and Ryker was a pretty swoon worthy teen.

These two are separated but reunited years later when they cross paths at a deli. Ryker can see that Maryann is in a dangerous and abusive situation. I liked Ryker; he is very sweet, protective, and he becomes the friend she desperately needs. This is one thing I really loved about the story. You see Maryann struggle but she has to come to her own decision to leave. Maryann has work to do and I liked that Ryker stood by and waited while she found her footing. Nothing frustrates me more than an abuse story where the Alpha hero comes in and all of a sudden her issues are gone. I think the author did a fine job of taking Maryann down the path of finding herself.

I would say that my only disappointment is that the story could have been longer. Novellas are tricky for this reason, and why they are a hard sell for me. I felt the ending was a bit rushed because I would have liked some more time with Maryann healing, and to see more of Ryker and Maryann as a couple. But all in all this was a great intro to a new series and I will definitely be picking up the next book. Well Done!

This is a quick easy read, a novella to introduce a new series based on the lives of the Cunningham siblings. Personally, I like a bit more grit and less sweet with the protective/alpha/cop theme.

4 Ryker and MaryAnn Stars

This is a great start to what looks like a fab series about six brothers who are all Police Officers, albeit each is in a different aspect of law enforcement.

This is Ryker and MaryAnn's story and is a novella as opposed to the rest of the books being full length novels. They were best friends as children and when they were 13 Ryker told MaryAnn that he really liked her and she admits that she has been falling for him - this part of the book is very sweet and made me smile. A huge life event for MaryAnn sees her moving away and they lose track until a chance meeting years later. Ryker is a cop . MaryAnn is broken and scared. They reconnect and sparks fly but when MaryAnn faces very real danger will Ryker be able to keep her safe?

This was a good story that introduces the other brothers effortlessly and definitely caught my interest. At the heart of it is a strong family dynamic.

HEA? YES
Cheating? No
Triggers? Yes, domestic violence is present in this book both on and off the page.

This book……

I cannot even understand how this author was able to write the most atrocious monster of a man to the most achingly beautiful man in this short story, but she sure pulled it off.

Ryker and Maryann experienced sweet young love at age 13 and because of a tragedy that affected both of their families, Maryann the worst, and a meddling grandmother, they lost contact.

Maryann is back in NY and living a nightmare and Ryker keeps seeing a woman in the diner that he can’t seem to stop looking at and soon realizes it’s Maryann. He is now a cop and has noticed some things that Maryann tries very hard to hide.

I cannot even explain how utterly perfect Ryker was. His acceptance of Maryann's whole situation just amazed me. There was absolutely no doubt in this man, and even though Maryann considered herself weak; the utter strength she had to not only endure, but also overcome her situation shows just how strong she really was.

Ryker has a few brothers and a sister and I look forward to reading more about the Cunningham's.

Triggers:

Kudos to K. Langston for writing a H that epitomizes what a real man is and a special thanks to my GR friend for the loaner :))

This was a quick, intense, yet sweet second chance love story. K. Langston has always written characters that I connect with and have a likability right from the start. Great beginning to a new series and I look forward to reading more. Big family = lots more books!

I think I needed this book in my life. Such great storytelling and writing. From page one, I was sucked into this sweet and thrilling love story of K. Langston. Ryker and MaryAnn are old loves who were forced to separate earlier in life, but when their lives entangle once again Ryker does not want to let MaryAnn go again. Ryker is such an amazing book boyfriend from page 1. You root for their love. You root for MaryAnn's strength and all that she has to overcome. Such a great book!

My love for this author and her writing is insane. The Officer’s Promise is a sweet and suspenseful romance that kicks off the Brothers In Blue Series with bang. My heart leapt for MaryAnn from the beginning, but Ryker stole the show. It was clear from the start that these two had a deep bond that transcended time. MaryAnn is living a nightmare and Ryker will do anything to keep her safe. I know this was a novella but it felt like a full novel with Langston’s incredible storytelling and ability to make me feel everything! I’m hooked!

"I love you, MaryAnn. Time and distance will never change that."

"I just want to be loved, Ryker. Is that too much to ask? I just want to be loved." "Baby, I never fucking stopped."

"It's the scars you can't see that take the longest to heal. But sometimes, the very thing that broke you is the only thing that can heal you."

The Officer's Promise might be a novella, but let me tell you, this short read really packs a punch. Ryker and MaryAnn's story grabs you from the very first page and captivates you the entire time. MaryAnn's story is definitely not an easy one. It's hard. It's intense. It's gritty. My heart ached for everything that she went through. Her story definitely shocked and angered me.

Ryker was just amazing. He entered MaryAnn's life at just the right moment. The feelings that he had for her never died and in fact, only grew stronger after seeing her again. I loved how protective Ryker was of MaryAnn and how he saved her and got her through one of the darkest times of her life. He became everything to her. He was the help she needed to get back on her feet. He protected her when she needed it the most. He loved her when she thought she was unlovable.

The Officer's Promise was a quick and easy read for me. It had the perfect balance of drama, romance and sexy good times. I loved the characters. I thought they were very real and easy to connect with. You couldn't help yourself from wanting to learn more about them and wanting them to find their happily ever after. This story does deal with some tough subject matter and the author did an amazing job tackling that.

I think this series is off to a very exciting start and I'm looking forward to seeing where this series will go next!

Not bad

This was a quick and cute read. I felt that too much page space was spent introducing the characters and their back stories, for the upcoming books in the series.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

The Officers Promise is the first book in K Langston's new series The Brother's In Blue. A series about six brothers all in different law enforcement agencies.

Ryker Cunningham is a police officer for the NYPD. He comes from a long line of police officers and he loves what he does He is single and pretty much married to his job. But his attraction to a lady that comes into the deli he and his partner frequent is strong. He's surprised to see its Mary Ann Glover. She's the girl he fell in love with as a teen and made promises too. Promises he's going to keep no matter what.

The Officers Promise is a novella. A novella in which you meet the whole cast of characters for the series but focuses on Ryker and Mary Ann. There is a lot to their story thin into such a short book so it keeps you in your toes. It's a good story but it felt rushed to me in the end. So much happens In the last chapter and then it's over.

K Langston has tackled a tough subject in The Officers Promise and has done a good job with it.

What a great start to a new series for K Langston. This book was pretty emotional and touches on a difficult subject for some.over coming the pain & suffering and finding who you are and loving again where some key factors in this story. They were well written and well executed! Childhood sweethearts are beautiful to witness & read about, but reading about them falling in love again even in awful situations, freaking awesome! So as for the characters themselves I loved them! Really loved Ryker he's a man who knew what he wants and went after It and the results couldn't have been better in my opinion. MaryAnn I loved her to sweet chick who's been through some real awful stuff and just wants to be loved. Loved watching her grow and overcome all the obstacles life has thrown at her. The Officers Promise may be a novella but it packs the punch of a full length novel and doesn't leave anything out.

I absolutely Adored this book.

This book is so beautiful and at the same time so gut Wrenching. It's hard to read but yet we know it's a reality. Domestic Violence can shred a human. It can rip apart at the souls sometimes never to be healed.

Thank God MaryAnn had Ryker to help her, to give her Courage and to help her heal. Both emotionally and physically. I'm sure having an Amazing man or anyone amazing willing to help makes leaving an abusive relationship easier.

Ryker was such an amazing man. He was just what Dreams are made of. It was such a delight watching him help heal and take care of MaryAnn. He is just the perfect alpha and the kinda man you want fighting for you and standing by your side.

Trust me when I say this Novella packs a punch with all the feels and also will lead to your Kindle screen steaming up.

Enjoy ladies!!!!!

I'll be honest...I'm not usually a huge fan of novellas. I feel like they're rushed and only get a little bit of the story. That is NOT how I felt for this book. Even though it's short, I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Do I wish it was longer? Heck yeah, who doesn't want more of a good book but I'm sure I'll be seeing these two in the series and I'll get my updates that way.

I love Ryker! Police officer, hot, understanding, alpha, sexy, knows what he wants, kind of guy! Yep, sign me up!!!

Mary Ann feels like she's a wimp, she's not a fighter....until she just can't take it anymore. She proves her strength in so many ways but she doesn't see it. It's up to Ryker to show her what he sees.

I can't wait to read this series, I love strong alphas and this series is going to be full of them!

This is my favorite K Langston book to date, even if it is novella length. Ryker is the embodiment of my ultimate romantic hero and Maryann is a heroine with the perfect combination of strength and vulnerability. I loved the pacing of this story - I felt as if all the details included in a novel length book were present in this shorter length story. K Langston did a remarkable job of introducing the upcoming Brothers in Blue and I for one am dying to learn more about Reese, the sole sister in this bunch!
