He killed my brother. He didn’t wield the rock that destroyed a promising life, the life of a future doctor, but he killed him just the same. He should have been there that night, should have protected Joshua from the wrath of bullies that he’d pulled down on us all. But he wasn’t. And Joshua died.
Now my dad expects me to sit back and let this man protect me? Was he insane? I don’t care how wonderful Gray Wolf Security is. I wasn’t about to give up my freedom, my privacy, and allow Donovan Pritchard to follow me around for the unforeseeable future. I don’t care how determined the criminal who is after me is. I can’t even remember what happened the night Joe died.
Besides, I’d rather take my chances than spend even a minute with Donovan.
Donovan
When I was assigned to protect a new client, I never imagined I’d be protecting the one person who told me to get out of her life and stay out…Kate Thompson. Seeing her took my breath away. She was even more beautiful than I remembered. Unfortunately, she was less than thrilled to learn that I’d be the one protecting her and that we’d be together twenty-four seven.
I’ve worked hard to move beyond the past…but sometimes the past catches up with you.
Note: This standalone novel includes three other novels for a limited time only! Enjoy :)
This series was offered as a 5 book bundle and a kindleunlimited, so I decided, why not. I was originally going to write separate reviews for each book, but I've decided not to, and here's why: Every single book in this bundle felt almost identical. They had the same exact formula. All the characters felt the same, they reacted to situations the same etc. Very generic overall. I'd rate most of the books in this series a 2.5 star with the exception of Kirkland. I'm going to rate that book a 1.5 star because the hero was such a manwhore. In other books in the series he was constantly parading around women and screwing them, at times not even knowing their name. Ummm no thanks. By the time I even got to his book I had little interest in his character, but I did complete the book, and still did not feel as if he redeemed himself. I doubt I will read anymore of this writers work. It just felt overly predictable and generic. Cardboard characters and plot. I am glad it was offered on kindleunlimited though.
Great concept, however, I was unable to feel any connection to the couple, or dive deep into the story. I really wanted too though.
The writing was done in the past tense form, which pulled me out of any connection, especially as the story was unfolding. Also- the 'villain' of the story? I guessed it early on, but are you kidding me? I didn't like all of the stuff this person was able to supposedly do, and the reasoning behind the persons mental state. It was too convenient. I never got closure on Mr. Thompson's wife either.
Originally I planned to rate this a three star, until the end unfolded. It was just a touch of ridiculous and too convenient for me- causing some eye rolling to happen.
Something was missing from this story for me.
Also- I didn't get why the villain waited so long either.
3.5 stars. A light mystery romance. The plot & characters weren't too complex. It was a nice quick, light read- nothing too profound although the description made it seem like it was going to be intense. I figured out the mystery early on.
A series of 5 books each featuring one of the private Investigators in this firm that provides 24 hour bodyguard security to those that need it. All the people involved are either ex-Army and ex-Green Beret or related. The firm was founded by Grayson Ashford hence the name who needed something to keep himself busy and to keep his brother occupied after he was paralysed in a car accident. David, Grayson’s brother is used as the tech guy – he is rather a computer whiz; and was taught by the FBI, hie previous employers, how to hack! There is also Kirkland, ex-Green Beret and noted for his charm; Donovan, als ex-GreenBeret and a member of Ashland’s unit, and an explosives expert; Joselyn Grant Hernandez, ex army [not permitted to GB as female!!] who has not spoken since her husband and 6 year old daughter were killed – a female operative(!); and Rose, office mother and organiser. A generally fun book to read with some different stories but all obviously romances pretending to be suspense and mysteries. My main gripe – and this book is not alone in this, is that American authors have no idea how the rest of the world lives! Honestly, 1000 square feet is a LARGE home, our first home, a 3 bed semi-detatched house was just less than this and we had a kitchen with scullery and pantry off, a large living/dining room, a large hall store, and 2.5 bedrooms! And as for a kitchen that is only just big enough to have a table and 4 chairs – well I wish! Our kitchen, which is large by most people’s at 12 foor square cannot manage that – we do have a table and a bench seat but add chairs and well...
my 1st book read, written by Glenna Sinclair ... I just found the series & I am loving it. Great set of characters, love their stories, such great in depth details/back stories. Since finally this book I realized there is a set of the books. I was so confused in what order they did go. Not sure if that is Amazon or what? I have not found a real list of what book so where? nothing on Goodreads or whatnot? must read. I would say this is a bit of a thriller, love story, high school love past, etc. No secrets there I hope? ( :
Gave this a shot because rating was decent and the series bundle was a Kindle Unlimited. So not for me. Kate and Donovan, the main characters, have a long past which centered around Kate's brother who was accidentally killed in a brawl. Kate holds Donovan responsible because he wasn't there to save him. Donovan was with Kate. I must have missed the part where she explained how she's not equally accountable. Stupid plot piece one. She's a being targeted, life's in danger, but she throws hissy fits for the first half of the book like a spoiled child. She told him to leave, and he did. The nerve of him, huh? Aaaaaaannd Donovan puts up with her. You know, because he's carried the guilt she cast on him. Stupid plot piece two. That pretty much did the book in for me. Writing was okay but there were some spelling errors that annoyed the crap out of me too. I managed to finished it, but the whole book was just flat. Giving the second a try, hoping this is just a bad start since many reviewers rated it and the author well, but I seriously have my doubts....
Wow this sure was an page turner.....I couldn’t put it down. This sorry had so much adventure that I think I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. If the rest of the series is like this then I will finish it in no time. Donovan and Kate’s relationship was both steamy and loving. This relationship made for a better story line....it’s making curious about the rest. I am seeing that I have a particular type when it comes to the male leads in these romance novels....lol
I like this author on how she makes her story captivating and interesting...if i have to rate the story alone i would likely give it a four but thinking on the heroine characteristic i decided to give it a three...this is just my own personal view of the heroine...she is an easy lay, no moral or something...even if she is thinking that donovan has a girlfriend she thinks that its ok to cuddle and make up...grrrrrrr...pls make some women who is strong enough to put up men who is flirting when she is not sure enough if he is committed or not...
I enjoyed this book. I bought the series and am looking forward to more GWS adventures. First Glenna Sinclair book also. I like the way she progressively moved the story and characters along in this journey.
This was a good book, I really enjoyed it. The suspense kept me going page by page . I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. I wish there had been an epilogue at the end of the book I hope that maybe the characters will be in the rest of the series.
Donovan and Kate's story definitely kept me reading until the end. Action and intrigue, and suspense throughout, with a second chance romance mixed in. I throughly enjoyed reading it! The book includes bonus stories which is a plus.
The heroine was annoying, selfcentered and spoiled. The hero was just taking everything... There were sweet moments, but far between. I liked the secondary characters much better than the MCs so I'll try the next book in the series just to give the author a fair chance.
The story is fine, and pretty well told, but FFS doesn't anybody have an editor any more, or at least a beta reader to proof stuff? SHUTTERED is not the same as SHUDDERED, which is what I am assuming the author meant, and I seriously doubt they meant IDYLL when they were talking about some one being IDLE. I can carry on reading when this happens, but I do need to rant a bit. How can you be a writer and not know the words you are using???? Oh, BTW, where are the condoms????
What can I say about this book that other people haven't already mentioned??? I LOVED it!! LOOOOOVED Donovan and loved the action and romance in the book. could NOT put it down. Ended up having to get the rest of the books in the series bc I could NOT just read the one
Love this story. How they both put the blame of Kate's brothers murder on Donovan, even though it's really not his fault, is sad, but unfortunately happens a lot. I was surprised when they finally discover who was behind the attacks. Never saw that coming at all.
When Kate witnesses a murder, her father decides to put security on her to keep her safe. He chooses an old family friend that Kate didn't want to see again. Donovan and her twin brother were best friends and she blames him for her brothers death, she tells him she never wants to see him again and he enlists in the army. Donovan doesn't know who his new assignment is until he walks into the hospital and Ash tells him. He knows how she's going to react, but he will do anything to keep her safe...but can he keep his heart from being broken again while he's at it.
Must be a new trend for authors to write in the first person now. It seems everything I've been reading has been written this way. It is going to take some getting used to. Saying all that, I liked this book. Read it in a day. Now on to book 2. :-D
I love strong security types: protective men who'd do anything for their loved ones. Donovan's story was a great introduction to his awesome pack of guys at the Gray Wolf security. The story of Donovan and Kate was amazing story of second chances, burned bridges being crossed again, forgiveness and redemption.
Both Don and Kate learn that nothing is more important and beautiful than loving again: finding that person who'll be with you no matter what, who'll share both good and bad times with you and who'll stop at nothing to make you feel safe and loved.
The story is suspenseful and fast-paced, but through all those hard times these characters find their strength and belief in themselves again - and in each other.
3.5 stars and a good start to the series! This was a great introduction to the group at Gray Wolf Security, and I can't wait to learn more about everyone. DONOVAN is a second chance love story with plenty of action/mystery thrown in. I will admit that I guessed who the villain was fairly early on, which is always a little bit of a bummer. It was a quick read, but I liked the plot and the characters. The writing struggled in a few places--some of the dialogue felt a little awkward, and the scenes from Ash's POV felt out of place. I am definitely interested in reading about everyone else and will continue on with the series.
Donovan and Kate were high school sweethearts that were separated because of a tragic event that changed both of their lives.
Ten years later Donovan is part of the Gray Wolf Security Team. He has been assigned a new client; who happens to be none other than Kate. Gray Wolf Security was hired by Kate's dad after an attempted robbery at the bank Kate works at. Kate is livid when she realizes Donovan is her security.
This was a light mystery romance and a second chance love story. Donovan and Kate have to tackle the past.
Not much to the romance scenes but altogether a very wonderful read. The suspense was outstanding. I usually don't like reading books that are written in a third person context but in this book it worked well. It usually happened when another character was implemented into the story telling, i.e. David or Ash. I loved that these two first loves were given a second chance. They had a sad ending the first time. The second almost happened the same way but what would a romance novel be without its HEA?
I love Alpha. ex-military security body guard stories and Kate and Donovan's story has all the ingredients to deliver a great story. They were childhood friends, then teenage sweethearts torn apart by the brutal murder of her twin brother which Kate blames Donovan for. Years later Kate is witness to the murder of a security guard at the bank she works at. Kates father hires Donovan as her body guard until the police catch the killer.
Read this as part of a 5 story bundle. Premise was good, but the whole series desperately needed a good edit. The characters were all so similar, even though their backgrounds were supposedly so different. The frequent use of words such as weariness (should've been wariness) and reigns (instead of reins), just to name a couple, was incredibly frustrating.
This could've been a really great series, but fell well short.
This was a good book. It gave the background on the team members and their partial story. Donovan's story was really showing how everyone was willing to hold the wrong people accountable for a tragic accident. Great story and I can't wait to read about the rest of the team.
A great start to this series! I really enjoyed this story with it's interesting plot, unique characters, hilarious banter, action, suspense, and surprise twists. I love how Donavan and Kate found one another after everything they had been through. I can't wait to read the next book in this series! I definitely recommend this book and series!
