Family first. That's Skylar Austin's motto. So when her little sister goes missing, her whole world threatens to come crashing down in a single night. But then June is found and everything should be perfect, right?
Only it isn’t.
June doesn’t remember anything — not even the sister she had always admired. With the aid of the sisters’ memory jar, Skylar wants nothing more than to help June regain what she has lost. While her kidnapper is still out there wanting to finish what he started, the Austin family struggles to keep it together.
Some memories are buried for a reason. So what happens once they start to unravel? Will they keep the danger at bay - or bring it right to their door?
Jamie is an author, wife, mother, reader and coffee lover who loves to take you on an emotional ride with her books.
When she was younger, it was her best friend who got her into writing in the first place. School was boring? Afternoon off? Fanfic writing was what they would do for hours to no end. Publishing, though, hadn't been anything on Jamie's radar until she woke up one day from a very vivid dream. It was one of those you can't get rid of, so she ended up writing it down. And writing some more on it. Until a full story started to emerge. It was her best friend who ended up pushing her to take the next step and put the book out there.
Ever since then, Jamie has been writing all kinds of different stories, all centuring around women or girls fighting against their inner (or sometimes outer) demons. The stories range from Young Adult fantasy, to women's fiction or contemporary romance. Whatever idea comes to Jamie's mind.
When she's not writing, Jamie can be found spending time with her friends and family, sitting on her deck enjoying an Iced Latte, watching one of her million TV shows or simply sleeping (cause let's be honest, sleep is hard to come by with small children). She lives in beautiful Germany where she's currently conjuring up her next book.
Broken Jar of Memories is definitely a must read of 2016. The story of June and the ordeal, she went through was traumatic. Her bond with her sister Skylar is what made me fall in love with the characters and the story. The bond between sisters is a powerful thing and theirs could not be torn apart. The storyline was well thought out and planned out methodically. I was so entranced by the story that I read it one sitting. In full disclosure this is the first Jamie Summers novel I read and it will not be the last. She knows how to keep the reader engaged with the story and make them love the characters. I will definitely recommend this story to others. I give it 5/5 Platypires.
As I already mentioned in a previous post, I'm absolutely in love with this cover! I love the calming colours and it's compelling simplicity.
'Broken Jar Of Memories' is Jamie Summer's second book and I'm absolutely spellbound by this story! I already loved Jamie's writing style in her book 'Dalysian Hope' as her writing style is absolutely thrilling, full of action and surprises and you won't find one single scene, which is boring or dull. I'm usually not so much into this genre but I couldn't put it down for just one second and have read it completely on Sunday.
I have felt so many emotions while I've been reading, it's been overwhelming. I've felt sad, scared like hell, angry, frustrated and full of love.
After approx. one third of the book, I thought that I know exactly, who is responsible for June ending up in this hospital room. But Jamie took me definitely by surprise! She fooled me completely for a long time as it took me about three quarters of the book to finally figure out, who the bad guy really is.
The main characters Skylar and June are amazing. They have great personalities and they show the reader what is really important in life. The people you love. You could just wish for a bigger sister, who is like Skylar. She has a stunning character, is caring and loving and would never let anyone down, whom she loves. And even if June can't remember a thing about her past, her heart remembers Skylar from the second she enters June's hospital room.
June lives the worst scenario somebody could imagine but she is surrounded by her loving family to help her in every possible way. You will also meet Chrissy - June's best friend - while reading. June and Chrissy are the complete opposite of each other but they are a perfect team.
That's the way how friendship and family should always be. Nowadays family and friends are pushed more and more to the background of our lives but they should always be the most important part in our lives. And you can't tell the people, who a dear to you often enough how much you love them. That's the message, I got out from reading this extremely emotional book.
I also got the following message because of reading this book: Live every day exactly how you want to live and without regretting anything!
I have spilled so many tears while reading 'Broken Jar Of Memories', you could say I sobbed like a little girl. But as a mum of 2 adorable kids and with a great imagination mixed with Jamie's thrilling and detailed writing style, I could comprehend easily how everyone in this story felt.
I still can't get this story out of my head and I have the feeling, I will never forget it. 'Broken Jar Of Memories' is definitely a 'must read' and an absolute highlight! If you want to read a grandiose story, you need to get your fingers on 'Broken Jar Of Memories' for sure. But make sure, that you have a huge amount of tissues available <3
My usual genre of preferred stories that I like to read are romances. So for me to read a none romantic story is almost unheard of. The blurb sounded interesting and I loved the cover. Let me say for a none romance story such as this, it was the best I could have chosen. It deserves no less than 5 stars because it's that amazing.
June wakes up in the hospital with no recollection of who she is or who her family are either. She as full memory loss. Her older sister, Skylar will help her by reading quotes from the memory jar that they have started years before. The only problem is, is she safe?
This was an highly original story that was beautifully written with a storyline like no other. The author kept me reading for hours on out. I read this on a 5 hour ride from vacation. What I admire about this author is that she was able to keep the suspense going until the very end. When I thought I knew how it was going to go, it would switch around and throw me off course. I was kept on the edge of my seat and biting my nails throughout. It's very suspenseful. The author has great ability to tell stories that makes me get attach to the characters and feel for them. Bottom line it's an amazing story that I wouldn't change anything about it.
This is a standalone written in a dual POV. My teenage daughter would love this story and I would let her because it is age appropriate. I strongly encourage the reading of this addictive story. Jamie will be on my radar for future and past books also.
Skylar and June are not only sisters But as close as friends. But when the memories they share are threatened, Skylar stops at nothing to help her younger sister remember everything they shared together.
Being by her side, Skylar and her family help June piece her memory slowly back together and the lead up to the fateful night she was hurt.
Excerpt: ...you might not remember who you are, or who we are, but your soul does. Which is exactly why I have no doubt that you will get your memory back. We will help you in any way we can, reminding you of the person you used to be.
A dual POV story, that has an amazing storyline and gripped me throughout. What a story of true sisterhood and the love that they share. Jamie Summers never fails to amaze me with her talents, and this story has got to be my favourite yet.
***** 5 stunning stars! *****
ARC received in exchange for a honest review (Reviews on behalf of Ladies Living in Bookland)
I saw this book recommended on someone's page while browsing on Facebook and it looked like something I would enjoy reading. I am so glad I saw that post.
This was a lovely read, so well written and it flows extremely well throughout. The jar of memories itself is a great idea and it's something I wish I had thought about years ago. Just think of all the memories I could have kept within a jar of my own. The stories behind the memories are honest, revealing, happy, sad, and a whole mixture of different emotions come out of reading them. They are as essential to the story as the main characters.
There is a mystery element running through the story as we try to piece everything together and work out exactly what happened along with the characters. I did kind of guess just before the reveal what was going on, but that's just me. It didn't spoil the story in any way for me.
Masterfully told dual POV illustrating a family's nightmare when the unthinkable happens. You follow them through a desperate and heartbreaking search for one of their own. What comes next shows a true test of familial bonds and how unconditional love heals all wounds. You can feel the myriad of emotions jump from the pages as each character makes their way the only way they know how.
"I know, believe me. I need to hold on to that piece of hope, though. This memory jar contains all the important moments in our lives...So please don't take that hope from me."
Painfully hopeful, endearing, and brought me to tears with it's sincerity. Jaime Summer is an author to watch.
This book makes you start thinking on so many levels. Honestly, I couldn't stop thinking about it days after I finished reading it. What June went through, forgotting everything she ever knew, even who she is ... how terrible is that? After all, it's our memories that define us. And the ordeal her family has to go through... WOW. This book is touching on so many different levels AND it keeps you at the edge of your seat until the very last page. Must Read for sure. One of the best books of 2016 for me, and the year is not yet done.
Wow. This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last. What a great first impression.
The hard hitting storyline is fantastic and tastefully done. The Characters are easy to connect to and easy to love. I couldn't put it down and was gutted when I came to the end. Definitely one to read
A good read that draws you in and leaves you needing more answers and wanting to know more memories.
This isn't a usual read for me but I would read something by this author again.
I hate putting anything about the storyline/plot in case I give too much away but the lead male character is very intense and each reader will have their own "man" in mind. I know I do
For as long as she can remember, Skylar Austin had begged her parents for a sibling. Finally at age ten, her parents gave her a baby sister. From the day June was born, they were inseparable. Skylar lived her sister more than anything. It didn't matter that there was a ten year span between them. They were as close as two people can be. In the Austin household, family always came first.
Fast forward seventeen years and June is graduating high school. She has always been a wallflower, only having two close friends. She never attended any school events preferring to stay away from people. Seeing as it was the last school party she would have, Skylar and her best friend Chrissy, convinced her to go. Unfortunately things didn't go as planned that night. June was kidnapped.
That night Skylar’s world came crashing down around her. How could she go on without her sister? She blamed herself for forcing June to go to the party. Time stopped for her. After three agonizing days, June was miraculously found. Skylar was able to breathe again. June was alive! They never expected that when she woke up from her coma that she would have amnesia. After a lifetime of memorable moments, her sister didn't remember her.
Skylar’s love is big enough for both of them. She would move heaven and earth to help June. With the help of their memory jar, Skylar will remind June how much she is loved and safe even though her kidnapper is still out there. Some memories are better left buried, they can scar you. What will happen to June when she starts remembering?
This was a good book and it was well written. Being the author’s second book, I think that she is well on her way to having a great writing career. The only down point for me was that I figured out who kidnapped her less than halfway through the book. Besides that I found it an enjoyable read.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer is a poignant story about how important family is and the lengths some family will go to keep it together. Skylar and her sister June are best friends. Skylar is older than June and takes the role of big sister very seriously. One evening Skylar receives a call that will change her life, her sister is missing. Skylar goes home and along with her parents are frantic with worry. June is finally found and everyone is relieved. They soon realize that even though June was found, things are not going to be easy. After June regains conciseness, she doesn’t remember who she is or who the people in her hospital room are. Skylar is thrilled that June is found but also devastated that she lost her memory. As Skylar struggles with June’s memory loss, she continually visits with June to help her regain her memories. One day while at home with her parents, Skylar realizes that the jar of memories she gave June could be a great way to bring back her memories. It takes a while but June slowly begins to regain her memories, she starts to remember about the night she disappeared. When she finally remembers about that night, she can’t believe that someone she knew could hurt her. Broken Jar of Memories is a beautifully tragic story with a happy ending. It was very well written and provided the reader with a look into the bond of sisters. Skylar and June are so close and even through times of great challenge, the bond they share can’t be broken. I really enjoyed this book and it was a pleasure to read.
Broken Jar of Memories is the first of Jamie Summer’s novels that I have read; however, I do have several on my To-Be-Read List.
Honestly, I was drawn to the the cover art and so I decided to read it. There was something that grabbed me and sucked me in. In my opinion, the story was a little slow to get moving; however, I am so glad that I continued on.
I found it so easy to identify with the Austin family. Although June had no recollection of her family, nor any of her past for that matter either, she is fiercely loyal and so incredibly brave. Skylar, her sister, would obviously do absolutely anything to protect June. I shed more than a few tears imagining the pain and frustration of the family.
I picked this up because I've become a fan of Jamie Summer quite recently and wanted to devour all that she wrote. I love a good mystery and this fit the bill perfectly. The idea of a memory jar made me curious and the opening scenes pull you into the story. As you alternate between Sky's view and June's you get a whole picture of what the two sisters are like, how they interact and how they both view the other. It was an amazing ride from start to finish. I loved every plot twist and turn and very much enjoyed this book! Highly recommended!
The story was pretty remarkable for only taking place in 2 different settings (the party and the hospital), so kudos to the author for that. However, HOLY HELL! I must have counted at least, at LEAST 100 editing SUPER MISSES. What happened? Was the editor on maternity leave? The story was a high enough quality it definitely deserved much much better editing than what it got. So in conclusion: God story/Good characters Terrible Terrible editing
BROKEN JAR OF MEMORIES is a Young Adult mystery by Jamie Summer that can be read as a standalone. It is my first experience with Jamie Summer books because I normally don’t read mysteries, but I am really glad I read this one. I loved the close bond that the sisters, Skylar and June shared. BROKEN JAR OF MEMORIES is a great book of mystery, drama, angst and an unbreakable sister bond. This is one of those stories that will stay with you long after you have turned the last page. The writing is outstanding and the characters are unforgettable. They combine for a remarkable story.
Skylar Austin is devoted to her family. She is ten years older than her younger sister June, but they still maintain an extremely strong bond that is important to both of them. When June goes missing, Skylar’s world crumbles.
Even though June is eventually found safe, when she wakes up in the hospital she has forgotten everyone and everything. Skylar is completely heartbroken and determined to help June regain her memory. Skylar uses the jar of memories they have collected over the years. She reads quotes from it every day of memories that they shared in hopes she will eventually regain her memory and remember what happened the night she was admitted to the hospital.
Skylar, June and their family embark on a journey to capture June’s kidnapper. This is a lovely story of family, love and support. You will laugh, and you will cry, but…….you will definitely love this story!
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer is a YA novel full of mystery, suspense, action and drama. This is the first time that I have read any of Ms. Summers work. I am pleased to have discovered this ‘new to me’ author and her wonderful book. Skylar and June are sisters, and despite the 10 year age difference, they are also the closest of friends- forging an unbreakable bond in the 17 years since June was born. Their family is very close-knit and loving. June has always been a little introverted; shying away from people and social situations- she has two close friends, her sister Skylar and best friend Chrissy. She is graduating high school and has never attended any school events or parties. So Skylar and Chrissy encourage her to attend the final high school party. Reluctantly June agrees, but things go terribly awry. Skylar is woken in the middle of the night by a phone call from Chrissy, to inform her that June has gone missing from the party. June is so smart and sensible and would never have just wandered off. Someone else must have had a hand in her disappearance. After an agonising, tormented, anxious and guilt ridden wait; June is found and rushed to the hospital in a critical condition. There is such a relief that she has been found, but then another nervous wait for her to regain consciousness. June wakes up in a room surrounded by strangers- with no recollection of who she is, where she is, or how she got there. She discovers that the ‘strangers’ are her family, but she has absolutely no memory of them. But even with no memories, she still feels a connection to Skylar. Skylar is determined to help June regain her lost memory, any way she can. So, by bringing the memory jar that she gave June on her 7th birthday, to the hospital- Skylar hopes that revisiting the special memories that the jar contains, will help June to remember. Whoever abducted June from the party is still on the loose. So will regaining her memories only serve to put her and her loved ones in danger? What happens when her memories begin to return? Will they, with the help of the Police; be able to piece it all together before it’s too late? Who took Jane, and why? What about the other girls who have gone missing? This book is superb, from the outstanding concept that was so well thought out- through to the intricately detailed and riveting, final product. Ms. Summer has proved herself to be an excellent wordsmith and gifted story teller. All the characters were so authentic, really beautifully written, with their own individual personalities- and were all so lovingly crafted by Ms. Summers. The author was able to build a real sense of tension and suspense in the story, sustaining it right till the very end. This book is a standalone, is told from a duel POV and an easy read. I read it in a day. I loved the messages/lessons the story contained- about the importance of family unity, love, building bonds and of friendship. How we shouldn’t take anything for granted, as we don’t know how long we will have. How we should live our life, make memories and have no regrets. And most of all, about the healing power of love.
“People tend to take life for granted, when it’s the most beautiful thing a person gets to experience. …I vowed to live life to the fullest. Whatever it took. I never wanted to look back on my life and have regrets. I wanted to know that I’ve lived the life I was meant to. Completely. Utterly. And without doubt. We only get one life, after all.”
Thank you Ms. Summer, I look forward to reading more of your work.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer an unbreakable five-star read. This is a book about two sisters and the unbreakable bonds they have, and it shows how even memory loss can’t break a loving family bond. Even though Skylar Austin is a few years older than her sister June Austin it doesn’t matter. Ever since her mum sat Skyler down over ice cream shortly after her tenth birthday and told her she was going to be a big sister she felt like part of her life was complete. Even though they are complete opposites doesn’t matter, they still have an unbreakable bond and will be there for each other no matter what. One night will change June’s life forever and it’s a night her sister Skyler and best friend Chrissy encouraged June to go to the last party of high school and told her she should go to at least one high school party, they will forever feel the guilt of encouraging her to go. Chrissy mostly as she wasn’t there when her best friend needed her most, all June remembers is waking up in hospital, in pain and not knowing who she is and who these people are in the room calling themselves her family. June knows that the person saying is her sister, is probably her sister as they look so alike, but her supposed parents she doesn’t know them, they could be anybody. Skylar is panicked when she gets a call from Chrissy in the middle of the night saying her sister June is missing, and no one seems to know where she is, her sister is sensible and quiet she wouldn’t have wandered off with anyone, Sky knows something bad is happening and her worst fears are confirmed when they police unofficially tell her that three other girls have gone missing and they haven’t come home alive. She imagines the worst until the hospital inform them she has been admitted and is in a serious condition, but it doesn’t matter she is alive and that’s all that matters. Until Sky realises her sister doesn’t have a clue who anyone is, including herself. Thankfully for a birthday some years ago Sky gave her beloved sister a memory jar as a present so they set about on a journey of discovery and learning the memories June can’t remember. With the help of the memory jar and the police June sets about on the uphill battle to remember her kidnapper and what happened on the night of the abduction, the story unfolds with several twists and turns and keeps you hooked from page one right through to the end. June and Skylar’s story is a very gripping and thrilling read.
Ok so this is an emotional read that Jamie draws you in from the first page. A sisterly bond that is strong and filled with so many good memories from their childhood. In ways I can relate to this strong bond between siblings even with the 10 year gap. Skylar and June have an amazing bond are more like best friends than sisters, they share almost everything and one in one night Skylar s broken with the disappearance of her sister June. After a horrendous sleepless night she gets the call that June has been found, as relief sets in she finds her way to the hospital only to find her wishes have again been turned upside down, June wakes up to not knowing who she is or even who her family is, she has lost all her memories. After being told she was abducted, she feels strange and uncomfortable around her family, the only person that makes her a sense of calm is Skylar. Skylark decides to bring in their memory jar, in the hope it may help. It does, June starts to flashbacks from that fateful night, flashbacks come back painfully of being drugged and being taken to a secluded place. Can the police piece it all together in time? Jamie has a great read here, it is written from both June and Skylar POV which helps to really understand their bond as sister. Fast paced and even though you do work it out it doesn't take anything away from the storyline. Jamie really does grip you from the first page and would totally recommend it.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer. I give this book 5/5 stars. The theme of this book is about two sisters and what happens when one goes missing. This is a standalone novel. Skylar is the older sister of the two. She goes crazy when she gets a call saying her sister is missing. Her life is good once her sister is found and is safe. The first quote I chose for her is her consoling her sister's best friend: “Chrissy, stop. If I know one thing for sure, it's that you didn't do anything wrong. From what Logan said, you weren't exactly capable of doing anything.” The second quote is when they are going through the memory jar: “June, whatever happened to you, we will get to the bottom of it. No matter what we have to do, how many memories we have to go through, we will get answers.” June is the younger sister. She was the one who went missing. When found she can't remember anything at all. The first quote I chose for her is when the cops are asking her if she remembers anything: “That's all I saw. I know it's not much and I wish there was more, but I don't recall anything besides what I told you already.” The second quote is when she is remembering the party: “I could see myself at that party. It was weird. I was there, and yet I could see myself. Kinda like when you float over your body as a ghost and can see what you've been doing that moment. I was unconscious. John was there, just sitting next to my body. It was creepy. And then...there was another guy. He came in and talked to John. About me. They ended up carrying me outside and to the hut I talked about. I tried to get a good look at him, but it was as if my mind put a block on him. All I could see was a blurry person. As if someone had put a filter on his face, making it impossible to make out anything clearly. That person was the one that killed all those other girls. I know. John said...he said that the other….(did ya think I would give it away? No now read this amazing book) This is the first book I've read by Summer. I really liked everything about the book. I felt so many emotions throughout the book. I was instantly in the book from the beginning. I highly recommend this if you like YA. Check out this amazing author, series and any books she has.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer brought out so many different emotions in me. One second I am laughing, the next straight up ugly crying (like massive ugly cry), and then shocked beyond belief. Jamie Summer seriously out did herself with Broken Jar of Memories! It is a Young Adult book which I personally think is able to be read by almost anyone of any age (above 16 or 17 though) and still find it very enjoyable. The book centers on Skylar Austin whose motto is Family First. She lives by this motto. So when her sister June is kidnapped her world is completely shattered. However, her sister is found but she has no memory; no memories of family, her kidnapping, her friends, nothing. Skylar takes it upon herself to help June regain her memories by using the memory jar they created together and try and find the person who kidnapped her. Summer’s attention to detail and her writing style by making everything just flow together from one thing to the next is just mind boggling. Broken Jar of Memories gets a full 5 stars from me today (honestly if I could give it more I totally would too!) I loved the fact that this book is so family orientated. The love that I felt (which brought on the ugly crying) by both parents and Skylar was overwhelming! I feel that every family should be able to have this kind of love. I have a feeling I will be re-reading this amazing story multiple times as should you
Broken Jar Of Memories By: Jamie Summer 5 out of 5 stars
The story Broken Jar Of Memories by Jamie Summer is a YA book. Skylar Austin always put family first. So when her little sister goes missing, it is devastating for her. Then June is found so everything should be fine, right? June has no memory, not of what has happened to her, her family, her friends, nothing. Skylar being the doting big sister wants to help June regain her memories to catch the person who kidnaped her, so she brings things that she believes will help her regain her memories. Together they start on a journey that begins to bring back the past. Will this help or will this bring the danger right back in their lives?
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is such an amazing story of strength by a family that is first dealing with a missing daughter and sister and then the agony of not being remembered. You can literally feel the love that both parents have for their daughters and especially Skylar’s love for her sister. Skylar is a wonderful character. June couldn’t ask for a better sister. Skylar is the one that June asks to stay with her while she is talking to the police and others. Their bond is strong even with the amnesia. June is so confused, however, she has a strong spirit and fierce determination to find out the truth. I love the author’s writing style. The story flows well and the transition from one event to the next is smooth. The attention to detail is wonderful and doesn’t disappoint when it comes to giving you clues as to who the main suspects are. I also liked that everyone always assures June that none of this was her fault and made sure that she knew she has no reason to feel guilty.
Reading this story will have you laughing, crying, and in awe of the amazing power of the human spirit. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a heart-warming story. There are scenes that some might find disturbing, however, everyone is different in their maturity. It is just something to keep in mind when reading.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer is the story of Skylar and her sister June who goes missing one night.
Skylar wanted nothing more in life than a brother or sister, and one day that wish came true, being ten years older that did not stop them having a very close relationship with each other. One night Skylar’s world comes crashing down when she receives a phone call from her sister’s best friend saying she is missing. Frantically trying to find her but no luck, they call the police but they can do nothing as it has not been twenty-four hours so she is not missing in their eyes. After a sleepless night, she has the call. They have found her. Relief fills Skylar until her sister wakes up and has no idea who anyone is, who she is, she has lost all her memories.
June wakes up in a hospital bed surrounded by strangers. There are people who tell her she is there daughter and a woman who says she is her sister, she only feels calm around the one who says she is her sister, but why is that? After her sister brings in this memory jar and they discuss the memories, she starts to have flash backs from the night she lost her memory, the night she was drugged and kidnapped by two guys. But who are they? Would she ever work it out?
Jamie Summer has written a good who did it? book as well as gripped you with the emotions of both sisters, that made you think what happens if that was me, how would I cope? I like that you had Skylar’s side of what was happening and June’s made you empathise with both sides. I loved that you got to be in the flashbacks with June. The book did grip me from the start but I did find it very predictable, she gave the game away too early in the book for me, but then I was sitting on the edge of my seat screaming, come on catch they guy! I would defiantly be recommending this book to people. It received four stars on the simple fact, as I said it was predictable, other than that I did love it.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer is told in dual POV of two sisters, Skylar and June. It tells of a scenario no one wants to ever experience, a missing person. This story was told beautifully as it touched on a scary thing but made it a learning point with the rest of the story and didn't focus on the missing aspect but more of the love of family and how its stronger than anything. Skylar always wanted a sibling and at the age of 10 she gets her wish in a sister named June. They were each others best friends and like any siblings shared secrets and memories. For Junes birthday one year Skylar gives June a jar and says its for June to collect her special memories to look back on in the future. June is the quiet type and would rather blend in than take center stage. When talked into attending a party for graduation by her sister and best friend, she reluctantly goes but took every safety precaution while there by never drinking from an already open bottled water, staying with her friend etc. We get little glimpses of what June is feeling while missing but of course no big details come out! When she awakes with no memories of her life, she's a great people reader and knows who she's most comfortable with from instinct. Will she get her memories back to help find who is responsible for her injuries? I really liked this story. It was nice to take a break from romance books for a minute and read of two sisters who would stop at nothing to be there for each other. I had an idea of who was behind the mystery and why but it didn't ruin anything for me storywise since the story still had more to give. I really wish we got an idea of who Lucas was or why he was there and maybe some back story but if that's my only hangup I'd say that's a win!! I'll be reading more from this author as her writing style was able to just pull me from page one.
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer Rated 4 stars
As long as Skylar can remember she wanted a sibling. She repeatedly asked her parents for one. Finally one day her wish was granted. June was everything Skylar always wanted and she doted on her. Since they were such good friends a memory jar made and was used by both girls. Memories were put in the jar that they didn't want to forget. June is a reserved girl. She is not a fan of talking much or strangers. As she nears completion of her high school years Skylar and her best friend ,Chrissy, talk her into going to a party. Her first ever! June is bored at the party and not really talking to anyone. She goes into the kitchen for a drink and next comes alert in a dark place. June got abducted from the party but luckily she turns up the next morning. She has many broken and bruised bones but the worst thing is her amnesia. She doesn't remember anything. Her family, friends or what happened to her that night. As the police try to jog her memory Skylar does too. She uses the memory jar and helps June learn about her childhood and friends. As her memory starts to come back she is remembering bits and pieces of the abduction. The more she remembers the more danger she could possibly be in since the abductors are still out there. I enjoyed the idea that this book brought forward. A memory jar is a great idea so things aren't forgotten even as we get older. Memory loss is another excellent use for it. Skylar and June have a great relationship for siblings. It was nice to see their love for each other even though June couldn't remember everything from growing up with Skylar. At times it seemed to be slow moving but I suspect this would be a slow recovery.
Skylar Austin is woke with her phone ringing in the middle of the night. Her little sister’s best friend is calling her because her sister is missing from a party. She helped convince June to her first High School party so she feels even worse that she helped persuade her to go. Her world feels like it will come to an end, what will she do now? She realizes she is about to have a full blown panic attack, she need’s to stop it now there are things that need to be done and now! Like calling her parents to make them aware of their sister's disappearance, as well as the Police.
The Police can not begin the search for June because she has not been missing for 48 hours. No one can sleep, Skylar or hr parents. Questions plague them. Who could have taken June and why? She is not the party type of child, she is not a troublemaker and she has a handful of friends. Skylar decides the next morning that she will just go to the Police station herself and see if there is any update. While they are sitting there the officer is interrupted, they have found June. The officer rushes Skylar to the hospital while she calls her parents to meet her at there.
They arrive to find that June is in surgery as they speak, they wait and wait. Three days later June wakes up only she doesn't remember what happened. She does not even remember who she is. There is a kidnapper out on the lose, this isn't the first young girl who has gone missing. Are the kidnappers still out there looking for her and how quickly will they come and try to get her?
What a excellent read, Jamie did a wonderful job writing this book. There were a lot of powerful feelings and words in this book.
4 stars for Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer. This is the first book by this author that I have read and while this book was a little different than the type of books I usually read. I truly enjoyed this book. Skylar always wanted a sibling. After years and years of asking and praying to get one, her mother tells her that she is finally getting her wish! When June was born, Skylar, couldn't have been happier. She vowed to always be there for her and protect her. And she did, until that one time. Skylar received a phone call from June's best friend, Chrissy, whom she had gone to a graduation party with, and hears heart shattering news. June is missing. When Skylar arrives at the party, she is met by her sisters friends and realizes that June has pretty much just disappeared. No one has seen her and has no idea where she could be. When the police show up, they aren't any luckier with finding anyone that saw June. Skylar also finds out that there have been other girls disappearing and some of them, were not lucky. She hopes and prays that June is found. When the phone call comes in that June has been found, everyone is so happy until they realize that she has absolutely no recollection of her past or what has happened to her. Skylar has the idea to bring her “Memory Jar” to the hospital, maybe it will help her remember. Will it work? I had an idea what the outcome was going to be at the end even though I was really hoping that it wasn't it. This book was a nice smooth read, it got you immersed in the story and you aren't going to want to stop until you find out “who done it”.
Looking for a book to end the 2016 year? This is the one that you should be trying. Are you ready for this amazing book by Jamie Summer? First off I wanted to say the cover was one of my favorite things. The book didn’t need some flashy kind of cover. The beautiful colors were enough for me. The author knew what would be perfect for this This is not going to be the typical story that I read where you have two people fall in love with one another whether it be a billionaire, football player or whatever nonsense it is going on. This is about two sisters. June and Skylar as sisters and main characters made me want a bond like theirs. You see what happens when disaster strikes June and the family comes together to help her through it. You think you know who put her in the hospital but you don’t know jack until the person is revealed. Unconditional love and family can get you through the hardest moments. This book gives you hope, love and every ounce of ‘awe’ you can handle. It is dual point of view but it is so well done that even for those who only like one point of view would love it. Skylar and June are best friends, sister and each others strength and how Jamie wrote these guys was far better than anyone that I could imagine. She did this book justice and made people who do not normally read this genre want more. Take a chance on Broke Jar of Memories because not only will you be kept in suspense but you will also fall in love and believe in something more. I don’t want to go into details but for someone who doesn’t normally read these kind of books you will not be disappointed
Broken Jar of Memories is written by Author Jamie Summer – what an emotional charged read!!
This is the story of family, two sisters: Skylar and June. June goes missing and Skylar’s world shifts. June is found, but nothing is the same as it was before – June doesn’t recall anything of her life. She doesn’t remember her family, not even her big sister. To try to help June remember, Skylar brings out their memory jar…
This is one of the best books I’ve read this year. It’s not necessarily the type that I would typically read, but I think that is what make it’s so much better. The story for these sisters is not perfect; it’s not full of roses, stars and rainbows. It’s heart-breaking, it’s trying, and it’s emotionally driven and will have you riding the story along with the characters that Jamie Summer has masterfully written in this book.
Skylar’s character as the older sister is well written. She’s lost her younger sister to only have her return, but not remember her at all! You can only imagine how this entire ordeal plays on her; however, she holds that big sister card so close to her heart and you see it fold out in the story. A little sister tends to admire and strive to be just like their older sister, we see glimpses of this with June. Even with her memory lost, she feels some type of bond for Skylar.
As the sisters go through the memory jar, you will ride through every emotion you could imagine. Hands down a magnificent read that should not be missed!!
Broken Jar of Memories by Jamie Summer is a book about family coming first and how the deep connection between siblings can be the difference between a good life and a bad one. Skylar has always wanted a sibling and when she turned 10 she finally got her long time wish. She does everything with June and wants it to continue to be with her all of their lives. She loved everything about her sister June and created a memory jar so that they will always remember the good times. She never wanted June to forget anything that they did together because she knew that she never would. Never did they think that they would need it to remember her life all together, but that is exactly what happens. June ends up missing from a party and even though she comes back, she has no memory at all. She wakes up in the hospital and everyone and everything is unfamiliar. Everyone is devastated but Skylar takes it the hardest. Together the family shares the memories of the jar and things start to come back to June, but the memories that are coming in can possibly put everyone she loves in danger. Will she be able to keep them all safe or will she lose them all anyway? I really enjoyed this book and loved the way that the family circled the wagons. I feel that this is how all families should be. This is the first book that I read by this author and I would love to read some more because I think she did a great job with this book. I have to warn you that this is an emotional read but definitely worth the tears.
