The hunters came in the middle of the night. Killing every vampire in sight. Their screams still haunted her. Summer Rayne was one of the lucky vampires to escape the massacre. She did what every other vampire had been doing for the past decade— she ran. She ran as fast and far away as she could, not knowing that destiny would lead her to her future. He failed his people. Vampire king Ryan Valerian lived in his own personal hell for years. Vampires were no longer the top of the food chain— they were now the hunted. The hunters wanted to eliminate the vampire race, killing them as they hunted them down. Ryan did as other vampires did— he ran. He remained hidden until destiny presented him a small curvy vampire that blew into his life like a hurricane. Their meeting was destined. Their love was instant. Their chemistry sizzled. Summer was convinced that the vampires would once again rise but would her love be enough to convince Ryan to be the king he was destined to be?

My oh my! Ariel Marie never ceases to amaze me and this novella is a sweltering tead. Summer and Ryan are such a HOT couple and the sex scenes left me wanton and breathless!
‘The woods were too quiet. The human hunters hadn’t picked up on the fact that there were no sounds of animals, or life around them. There was a dead silence as if the forest creatures had run away knowing something dangerous approached. She knew the vampires were coming for her. Her lover, her mate, her king, was coming for her.’
Paranormal vampire romance between Summer and Ryan, the King of Vampires. Never underestimate the power of novellas; this book held my attention, and the sexy times was HOTTT! Can’t wait for more from this author. I’ve been seeking paranormal romances by women of color, so happy I discovered her last night!
A really good, quick read!! Had just the right amount of excitement and heat for its length. Flowed well and kept my interest the whole time. (I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review)
I loved the chemistry between Summer and Ryan and how her belief in him made him believe in himself. I wish that it had been longer. I feel much more could have been said and done, but I really enjoyed the storyline and of course the sex scenes were amazing. Can't wait to read and enjoy more of your books.
This was a wonderful hot short read. Even though it was a short story, it was written so that even when days passed, I wasn't feeling like a missed something. Summer and Ryan were a great couple! I received an ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased opinion.
I instantly fell in love ♡ Summer is a sexy vampire who was running for her life. She just happened to run into the king vampire, Ryan's, property. Love and lust is instant between the two. This is a very hot read that will leave you begging for more. Happy reading
Um, give me a minute, please. I'm still using one hand to fan myself from those HOT sex scenes!
LOL.
Okay, ahem, now my review:
I LOVED this novella from Ariel Marie. It gave me just enough backstory on Ryan and Summer and the vampire/hunter war to feel educated enough to keep up with the plot line. Their chemistry was off the chain and leapt off the pages. Great read. My only wish? That it was longer, that I could have been a fly on the wall of their bedroom for just a little longer! ;)
*WARNING* story contains explicit sexual content This is short (novella) as it is, so I was already expecting a fast paced story. There is a full story in there, a VERY short, VERY quick story buried under to many sex scenes (in my opinion).
A vampire king in hiding for over a decade after being overrun by hunters, regains his pride and purpose after fate delivers his destined mate to him.
Ryan Valerian is humiliated and embarrassed. He feels unworthy of the Valerian name after he ran away while hunters methodically slaughtered entire vampire towns. A true king would have stayed and died in the fight. Or so he believes.
Fleeing the latest hunter attack, Summer Rayne runs until she collapses from her injuries and exhaustion. She has no idea how far she's run or where she is. She awakens in Ryan's home and recognizes him instantly as the king. As destined mates, their connection is instantaneous, and Ryan already knows he'll never let her go. Perhaps it's because of this, Summer is able to convince Ryan that his people anxiously await his return and will fight for him. I got the feeling that it wasn't so much "what" she was saying, but that it was her saying it. She believed in hm. She had faith in him. She would fight for him. When he tells Summer he needs her at his side, it's obvious her love and their connection is responsible for restoring the king.
The battles are swift and retribution is fierce. When vampires and hunters are involved, it's not always easy to say who's "good" or who's "bad", but this time we know...the humans started it. LOL!
This is a short novella - it ended at 77% on my Kindle - but the author has not skimped on development or details. You might come away with questions, but only of what happens "next"...after the ending. And yes, if this story were expanded on in a series, that would only be a good thing. I'm already invested in the story. (Said the woman who prefers standalones! LOL!)
Take a wild ride with Ryan and Summer...and remember to breathe!
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book in advance, in return for an unbiased review.
Summer's Destiny is not as long as the books in the "Dark Shadows" series, so is a great introduction to Ariel Marie's writing, if you've not already picked up one of her books.
The nice thing about this story is that it doesn't have the depth of background material that the "Dark Shadows" series has. It trickles the background information throughout the plot, without overwhelming you with exposition.
Unfortunately, having previously read "Princess" and "Toma", I was a little confused when I started reading "Summer's Destiny". However, it soon became clear that I was reading something that didn't fit within the same ongoing story, and was able to settle into what plot there was, with ease.
Despite my initial confusion, Ariel Marie has hit another high with the latest of her vampire romance stories.
What a hot quick read from Ariel Marie. If you're looking for a quick steamy vampire read, this ones for you.
Summer ran for her life when the vampire hunters attacked her small town. She ran and ran until she passed out. Little did she know she landed in the yard of the missing vampire king.
Ryan was king of the vampires and he was the last in the Valerian line. When the humans started taking our the vampires 10 years prior he room the cowardly way out and fled.
Now, he has found Summer in his yard and injured. He is taken with her from the moment he lays eyes on her but she is unconscious. He undresses her and lays her in his bed to heal.
She wakes and the chemistry they share is off the charts. She convinces him that his people need him to once again lead and fight the hunters, but is it already too late.
The Vampire king is in hiding, hunters have advanced weapons that kill almost instantaneously.
The town in which Summer lives has been found and is under attack. Hunters are killing her neighbors and friends. She is running for her life. Even with her vampiric speed, they chase via helicopter.
She is rescued by the Vampire king and instantly they have a pull and need for each other. Can she convince him to return? Will they be able to survive amidst the humans or will they be wiped out?
I enjoyed this novella as it is fast paced and gives you just a taste of adventure you can squeeze into your day at any time. I would not be surprised if this becomes an actual novel.
Wow! Ariel Marie has blown me away with another great paranormal read. When Summer Rayne runs to escape hunters and in a storm is found by none other than Vampire King Ryan Valerian. He saves her and then there is instant chemistry and they know they must be together. Ryan has been hiding but the world is about to change and it is all because of his destiny wrapped in a beautiful vampire named Summer. This book left me wanting more because I didn't want this story to end. I devoured this story and loved every bit of it. Summer and Ryan are hot and sizzling together and I want more of them. This book is hot, sexy and full of fire.
This short novella is good, quick read, filled with action, and hot and steamy romance.
With some short stories it's hard to get a feeling for the characters, but not in this case. The chemistry between Summer and Ryan was great and I liked how her belief in him as a leader, helped him believe in himself and spurred him into action.
Davenport had been attacked by the vampire hunters causing Summer to run for her life. When she had finally exhausted herself and passed out, Ryan found her. Ryan, the vampire King, had been hidden for ten years before someone had found him. And when Summer finally woke, it was as if destiny had put them together. With Summer convincing Ryan to take back the throne and lead the vampires once again, will they be able to defeat the hunters? Or will the hunters find Summer and kill her? After all, they don't like to leave any town until every vampire from there has been killed.
Ok...this is a re-edit after some clarification. Ha. Thanks Ariel!
Although its short...too short for me cause I wanted more I did love the story. Characters were great and of course we wanna know more about them. Summer and Ryan were very interesting and I wanted to know more about their struggles when everything happened. I guess since it was a short we can't know everything right? Very enjoyable and naughty. :)
For a novella to be it had it all – love, steamy hot scenes, good vs evil and a HEA. Summer is running for her life straight in to the arms of Ryan. He’s the hidden king of the vampires and had also fled the battle between the hunters and vampires and is hiding out. Summer gave his life meaning and for her he will do anything – even stand up against the hunters, who wants him dead. Only complaint – the book was too short. Hopefully more will come
Never disappointed with Ariel Marie !!! I absolutely love her writing ! This story was shorter than her other ones but still amazing !! Makes me want to be a vampire in one of her story's . One thing i love about her story's is she uses words that we use every day in the sex scenes ....no cringe words with her !! Hot sexy love story for vampire fans !! Another great job !!
This is my first read by this author and I have to say it's a phenomenal one. Ryan needed a good woman by his side to make him realize he is the man that he didn't think existed, and vampiric community was better for it. What's next for Summer and Ryan?
Good book for short read. It left me wondering more about the vampires history and what is ahead in their futures. I'm looking forward to more books from Ariel.
Summer Rayne doesn't know how she's alive. The last thing she remembers if fleeing the hunters as they chased her for hours on end. The Vampire king Ryan Valerian found her barely alive and took her into his home. He was believed to be dead, but Summer is ecstatic to find him and discover how absolutely gorgeous he is. For her, Ryan is willing to leave his solitude and rule over the vampires once more to help them rise against the cruel hunters. But will they survive to find a life together?
A short erotic paranormal read that delivered on the steamy scenes, but left me wanting a lot more from the rest of the plot. Summer and Ryan are a couple that complements one another well. I'd like to have more characterization with them.
I liked this novella, but I think if it was developed into a full length book, I would have loved it. From the back story, to Ryan and Summer's meeting, and the downfall of the hunters, everything was really interesting and just good. I liked both Ryan and Summer and would have loved to see more of them being the great couple I know they are. Though, to be fair, I do have a weakness for kings with power like Ryan.
Because this is so incredibly short, everything happened within a time frame that I found hard to believe. Even with their vampire abilities. And I would have loved more details on all that went down. Still, this was pretty great and I look forward to reading the rest of the novellas.
I liked the premise of the book and there were some hot sexy scenes. This was a short read which left no time to really get to know the characters. I think the idea of this series holds promise but the lack of internal narrative and sensory details plus the overview style writing of telling instead of showing dropped the ball for me as a reader. The king in hiding... The vampires being hunted... The sexiness at the start of the book was enjoyable reading but I think this lacks a certain depth that can be found even in novella form. Some of the timeline was off and I was a confused at the start. As far as the story goes on a whole I think it starts a unique series.
