New York Times bestseller Jennifer Estep continues her Elemental Assassin urban fantasy series with a novella starring Silvio Sanchez, the vampire assistant of Gin Blanco, as he goes on a holiday date that turns out to be more deadly than romantic.

Working for Gin Blanco (aka the Spider, the assassin who runs the Ashland underworld) doesn’t leave much time for romance, especially with Gin’s holiday party planning in full swing. But when he catches the eye of a charming gentleman, Silvio finds himself going out for coffee.

All’s fair in love and war, though. Just as Silvio is starting to enjoy himself, he realizes he’s being watched. His nice guy date doesn’t sense the danger, and Silvio wants to keep it that way (and, well, keep the guy alive) so Silvio ends the date early—only to be abducted by some villainous giants.

Will Silvio survive the night and make it back to the Pork Pit in time for Gin’s holiday party? Only if he decks the hall with bodies...

This was a cute little side-story, set in the holiday season, and involving one of the newest cast members in the Elemental Assassin series.

It was highly entertaining to see inside the mind of Silvio, but it was a little bit disheartening to see that behind his facade of togetherness, he's hurting and broken inside.

Luckily for our protagonist, he's joined one of the best "chosen families" in all of Urban Fantasy.

The little lingering potential thread of hope at the end was especially heartwarming.

Thanks Netgalley and Jennifer Estep (for posting the Read Now link on her facebook!) and the publisher for this review copy. The only thing I got out of it was the free read, in exchange for my honest opinion.

A cute addition about our very own Silvio, however, not as good as previous novellas in this series!

Silvio Sanchez is a fairly recent addition to The Spider clan. He originally stepped onto the scene in BLACK WIDOW, book #12, so I was a little surprised that Jennifer Estep picked him as the next novella candidate over longer standing characters like Bria, Jo-Jo, or Sophia. Although, admittedly readers do already know a great deal about these secondaries given that they've been a part of this series longer. My two cents not withstanding, NICE GUYS BITE was full of holiday cheer, and helped to bring Gin's assistant further into the ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN fold.

It's no secret that when push comes to shove, Blanco's sidekicks are more than capable of handling themselves whenever trouble comes a knockin', and the boss lady isn't handy with her silverstone knives. Silvio has proved himself to be a proficient paper pusher in his role as aide to Ashland's Queen of the Underworld, but has yet to be battle tested. What started off as a fun date—bonus points for it being LGBT in nature—quickly went South, and Sanchez demonstrated that he has skills that extend past his efficiency with tablets and smartphones.

I enjoyed the festive Pork Pit inspired decor, and Gin's holiday feast had my belly rumbling for BBQ after only a couple of deliciously descriptive phrases. There was nothing important to the story arc of the full-length volumes in this short which is exactly how it should be however, like any Estep title, NICE GUYS BITE was still incredibly satisfying.

This short story features Silvio, Gin’s assistant. She shooed him from work and constantly following her to make him go on a date and get a life outside of the blood and death that was part of the Ashland underworld.
It was really predictable and didn’t really add much to the overall narrative of the Spider’s journey. It was decent

I fell for this fun novella by Jennifer Estep. A perfect diversion for a lazy day!

This is a short story about Silvio Sanchez, the vampire assistant of Gin Blanco. I always thought about him as an old man for some reason, but he is a middle aged, handsome, dapper man looking for a love connection. This quick read is about a disastrous holiday date with a hot guy that doesn't go exactly as Silvio was thought it might.

With some bad ass moves of his own, Silvio kicks butt in this story and brings us another side of him we have never seen before. A delightful diversion that packs a punch! Jennifer Estep always knows how to keep her readers begging for more! I am a Silvio fan for life!

A short story, 15.5, in the Elemental Assassin dark fantasy series usually revolving around Gin Blanco, the Spider, based in Ashland, North Carolina. In "Nice Guys Bite", the focus is on Silvio Sanchez, Gin's vampire personal assistant.

If you're interested, there is a chronological listing of the Elemental Assassin books on my website.

My Take
It's cracking me up thinking of Gin cutting out chains of paper piggies and decorating them with silver glitter. And I did have to laugh at Estep's description of Sophia's Christmas "costume".

Ooh, Silvio is writing a book!

Okay, okay, so it's a cute story (and I'm glad Silvio is taking a chance), but the truth behind that kidnapping was pretty obvious. It's also quite sad about Silvio's realizing how his efficiency is also a negative in keeping Gin safe.

But what is truly sweet is how thoughtful Gin is and what a great guy Silvio is.

The Story
Working for Gin Blanco doesn't leave much time for romance, especially with Gin's holiday party planning in full swing. But when he catches the eye of a charming gentleman, Silvio finds himself going out for coffee.

It's been awhile since Silvio last took a chance, a chance who was horrifically murdered. So when Silvio realizes he's being watched, he's determined that this time his date stays out of danger!

The question is…will Silvio survive the night and make it back to the Pork Pit for Gin's holiday party?

The Characters
Silvio Sanchez is a vampire who used to be Beauregard Benson's second-in-command ( Black Widow , 12); now he's Gin's personal assistant. Derrick had been Silvio's last — tragic — love ( Deadly Sting , 8).

Gin Blanco is a supposedly retired assassin, the Spider, who runs her barbecue restaurant, the Pork Pit. She sort of "inherited" the queen of the underworld mantle for Ashland. Owen Grayson is Gin's boyfriend. Detective Bria Coolidge is Gin's sister and dating Finnegan "Finn" Lane, an investment banker and Gin's foster brother. Sophia Deveraux, an Air Elemental, is the head cook. Jo-Jo Devereaux runs a high-class beauty salon with the help of her Air Elemental magic and is Sophia's older sister.

Other friends at the party include Xavier, a detective and Bria's partner who is dating Roslyn Phillips, a vampire madam. Catalina Vasquez is a waitress at the Pork Pit and Silvio's niece. She's friends with Eva Grayson (Owen's little sister) and Violet Fox, Eva's best friend. Phillip Kincaid is one of Owen's friends and very interested in Eva. Cooper Stills is a dwarf and Owen's mentor. Warren T. Fox is a friend of Cooper's and Violet's grandfather. Stuart Mosley is the president of Finn's bank. Mallory is mob boss Lorelei Parker's greats-grandmother and a dwarf.

Martin Mahoney is the cute English professor at Ashland Community College who teaches detective fiction. The Cake Walk is a restaurant that specializes in desserts. Ira Morris is the park manager from Unraveled , 15. Liam Carter is a mid-level underworld boss.

Vincent heads up the kidnappers who include Hank. Hugh Tucker is part of The Circle ( Unraveled , 15). The Southern Shine biker gang failed in their attempt.

The Cover and Title
I hadn't realized how gorgeous Silvio is! He is quite the suited hunk standing in the forefront as the green holiday lights reflect off the darkly wet street. The author's name is at the top while the script'd title is at the bottom; both are in red while the series information is at the very bottom in white.

The title is what Silvio discovers…"Nice Guys Bite".

I love being back in the Elemental Assassin world! Ashland is covered in snow. Gin is getting ready for her Christmas party by decorating the Pork Pit with pig shaped snowflakes. And Sophia is wearing a bedazzled Santa Skull trench coat! Is it wrong that I want to steal her clothes?

I loved Silvio when he was first introduced. What was it, six books ago now? But I always complain that all he does is sit on his stool at the Pork Pit. It's nice to see him getting out of the restaurant in this story. (Okay he goes to another restaurant, but Cake Walk was so cute!) And then he finally gets to kick some ass. It's also the first time in the series that we get a vampire's POV, though we've seen them in action as villains in the past.

I felt like Silvio's story, with its Merry Christmas ending, was much happier than Finn's novella Unwanted. I'm still sad for Silvio though. It just seems like he's kind of lonely even though he's surrounded by friends. I hope that we get another story from him in the future and get to see him be happy.

Nice Guys Bite is a fun holiday short. It does contain spoilers for the previous book, Unraveled, so I would read that one first. (But it was awesome, so no trouble there.)

Silvio is a character to watch!

Silvio has been growing on me as a part of Gin's team. He can go toe to toe with Finn on the snarky one liners and putting away the food. Now after reading Nice Guys Bite we get to see that Silvio can hold his own when it comes to taking on the bad guys. He has some moves of his own, Gin would be proud of!

I will definitely look at Silvio different after reading Nice Guys Bite. He's not just a pencil pusher for Gin. I loved how the novella wrapped up and how Silvio feels like he is part of a family with the gang.

Christmas might be for children, but I was safe with Gin and the rest of my friends now, and I was determined to make this one of the best holidays that I’d ever had, blood, bodies, betrayal, barbecue, and all.

I love Gin’s super-efficient assistant vampire Silvio Sanchez, and I’m so happy Jennifer Estep wrote a christmas novella for him :-D

It was wonderful seeing the hilarious banter between him and Gin from his POV. It just showed how wonderful their relationship really is and how well they’ve come to know each other.

When Silvio was captured in order to get more information on the infamous Gin Blanco aka the Spider, we really got to see just how lethal and tough Silvio is. He definitely is the perfect assistant for the dangerous Gin. It was heartbreaking to see his pain and humiliation in this book and I really hope that the wonderful Silvio will get his own HEA. Perhaps with a certain criminal named Liam Carter…?

This was an excellent addition to this great series and just perfect for the holiday season!

Short story featuring Gin's assistant, Silvio. This is definitely a story for dedicated fans, a little extra that isn't necessary to the series. It is a lot of fun, though, despite being a bit underdeveloped and ridiculously Christmas-y themed. Silvio is definitely a secondary character - one of many in the series but one of the few that hasn't gotten much direct page time-so it was nice to see a little extra on him even though it didn't develop his character much beyond what we already know.

REVIEW: 4.25 stars--NICE GUYS BITE by Jennifer Estep is the latest novella in her ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN urban fantasy series focusing on the head of Ashland’s Underworld and Elemental Assassin known as The Spider aka Gin Blanco. NICE GUYS BITE focuses on Gin’s assistant-vampire Silvio Sanchez.

Told from first person point of view (Silvio) NICE GUYS BITE follows Silvio as he embarks on a date with a local college professor Martin Mahoney- but things don’t go according to plan when the couple finds themselves victims of a kidnapping where information about The Spider is payment for release. As Gin prepares for the friends and family Christmas party, Silvio struggles to get himself free.

NICE GUYS BITE is a quick read; a supernatural tale of mystery and suspense that allows the reader a small glimpse into the mind of Silvio Sanchez-a vampire whose strengths have never been revealed; with a protective streak for his boss known as The Spider; and a man whose loneliness comes at a cost. There are moments of fun and humor; heartbreak and crushing realization; torment and victory. NICE GUYS BITE is an entertaining and engaging short story; another playful addition to Jennifer Estep’s ELEMENTAL ASSASSIN series.

Working for assassin and underworld crime boss Gin Blanco as her personal assistant leaves Silvio with very little personal time. While he loves his job, he’s finally decided to take some personal time to enjoy a coffee date. However, when some giants decide to interrupt his time off, Silvio must deal with painful memories from his past in order to save himself.

Nice Guys Bite is an entertaining short set in the amazing Elemental Assassin world. For the first time ever, readers are treated to a tale told from Silvio’s point-of-view. We learn a few personal secrets about this über-organized vampire, and while I’ve always respected Silvio, now he’s got my heart as well. His life while working for his previous boss wasn’t kind, and it’s a wonder how Silvio managed to come away without more emotional and mental damage.

The story is short, ending at about 75%, with the remainder an excerpt from the upcoming title. While I found the entire tale entertaining and light, I was disappointed with its predictability. I pretty much guessed the entire plot from the get go - which may be a sign that Ms. Estep has trained me well to look for clues and be as paranoid as Gin. Regardless, I still loved watching Silvio work his way out of his dire situation, and I truly enjoyed learning more about this awesome character.

Nice Guys Bite is an excellent treat for fans of the Elemental Assassin series, even with its predictable nature. I certainly enjoy anytime I get to spend with Gin and the gang at the Pork Pit.

"Loyalty is hard to come by these days, especially in this city."

I enjoyed this novella so much. Silvio is such a great character, he seemed a bit grumpy in other books, but he actually has a great heart.

It starts with Silvio out on a date with this guy named Martin. Silvio seems to be enjoying Martin's company when he notices three men watching his every move. Everything goes to hell when the three men kidnap Silvio and Martin, and Silvio doesn't know who hired these men or why.

This novella threw me back to Tangled Threads, book 4 in the series. It followed almost the same storyline, but the ending was different.

I like Silvio a lot more after reading this novella. He is a lot like Gin, and he loves his boss very much. He is quirky and funny behind that grumpy facade. I found it very cute when he was checking himself out, calling himself "dashing".

I can't wait for the next book, I love this world and these characters.

*My Thoughts*

Jennifer Estep's Nice Guys Bite is a 100 page novella that takes place right after Unraveled. Gin and friends have survived an encounter with a new group called the Circle. Now, it is time to get all festive and party. Which means watching Gin cut decorations into little pig shaped snowflakes, and actually enjoy the holidays doing what she does best outside of killing; cooking! But enough of the food and decorations. Silvio Sanchez is Gin's mister do everything.

I'm a HUGE fan of Silvio, and was so happy to read this short, action-packed story where he officially had the worst date ever. I loved the nods to his past history and how he reacted to a new romance. While I wasn't that surprised with the "twist," I still thought it was great for the story and made the sting that much sharper. I always knew Silvio was a badass, but man, does he know how to hold his own! I also really liked the ending, which was sweet and heartfelt and made me feel like I was there at the Christmas party with Gin and Co. Definitely something fans of the series will enjoy, and that readers looking for action in their holiday books. Can't wait for more!

Nice to have a novella involving Silvio. Liked it his date, Martin. Sad that he turned out to be bad. Glad that Silvio was able to shine and take out the bad guys. Hope he will find the man that is right for him.

Hope to see other members of Gin's friends and family get novellas. Would be nice to hear their thoughts.

Can't wait to read Snared!!! Looks like it will be good. But then again, all the books in the series are good.

Audiobook review:
Overall – 4
Performance – 4
Story – 4

An interesting story.

This was my first book by Jennifer Estep. It's part of her Elemental Assassin series but I enjoyed it as a stand-alone story.

Gin Blanco and her assistant are preparing for a holiday party but Gin encourages Silvio to go on a date with a handsome guy who's caught Silvio's eye.

From the intro I thought that maybe this was going to be an MM romance (which I love) but it really turned out to not be a romance at all – and that was fine. The story held my interest and the narration by David Marantz was very good. There were a lot of things happening in this short audiobook. Some great action scenes and some pretty descriptive bloody ones, too.

This short glimpse into the Elemental Assassin world piqued my interest enough for me to look into other stories in this series.

I really enjoyed this short story from Gin Blanco's assistant Silvio's point of view. As Gin plans a wonderful holiday party for friends and family, she sends him off on a "hot" coffee date with a new man he's met. Things don't turn out exactly as planned, as he gets way more action than he expected, and not in a good way. It's a good thing Silvio has learned a lot from his boss Gin, and being a vampire certainly helps, so he can take care of himself when he needs to. I loved the wrap up at the holiday party at the Pork Pit, where the whole gang is celebrating the holiday.

Silvio Sanchez takes his job as Gin Blanco’s assistant seriously. After surviving the Ashland underworld for years under a sadistic, power-hungry boss who quite literally sucked the life out of his enemies, he’s enjoying working for someone who protects those she considers her friends and family. Silvio spends most of his time glued to his phone and tablet, managing Gin’s schedule and keeping up with the who’s who in the Ashland crime world. He has no time for romance and no intention of getting some nice, normal guy involved in his less than legal life. But coffee with a handsome college professor should be okay, right?

I like these little short stories set in between the full-length Elemental Assassin novels, first Finn and now Silvio. They offer a nice Spider fix while taking a small step away to focus on other characters. Finn’s story was set after the events of Bitter Bite and Silvio’s after the old west style shoot out in Unraveled. With only mild prodding from his boss, Silvio finally says yes to a coffee date with the handsome college professor Martin Mahoney. He even puts his phone and tablet away in order to enjoy the conversation. But it’s not long before he realizes he’s being followed and then finds himself and his date victims of a kidnapping. Now he’s got to figure out a way to protect his boss and his date, and hopefully make Gin’s holiday party on time.

I enjoyed getting to know Silvio a bit more, I liked getting into his head and discovering that he has his own badass talents and strengths. This short novella only wetted my appetite and now I neeeeed to know more about the buttoned up, organized, fiction writing vampire who has proclaimed himself protector of the assassin better known as The Spider. Hopefully, Ms. Estep will delve a bit deeper into his character in the future. Final Grade-B

** ARC provided by the author for an honest review **

Jennifer Estep has written one hell of a paranormal suspense in Nice Guys Bite in the Elemental Assassin Urban Fantasy series! This is my first time reading her work and I can say I will be adding her to my list of authors to read.

Silvio Sanchez, vampire, is the assistant to Gin aka “The Spider” assassin. Gin owns the barbecue joint in town as her cover by day but by night she is known as the leader of the underworld. Silvio & Gin have a brotherly/sisterly relationship and it’s intriguing to see the humor between them.

Silvio has had trouble in the past with dating. It seems that every man he “tries” to date ends up dead by their enemy, so he has held off until Martin Mahoney joins the scene. Just when he starts to let his walls down with the professor, Silvio is kidnapped. With being the assistant to a Leader assassin, he finds himself in sticky situations like this, however, he was not counting on waking up next to his date. Just when things start to look positive on escape, Silvio learns that all people have two different sides and learns the hard way to let someone into his life.

This novel is fast paced with a twist and keeps you on your toes!

4 Stars!!

My Review:
We finally get to see just what Silvio is made of in this novella. He's on his own and really has to rise to the occasion or he won't make it to the party. And that would make the boss quite unhappy as she's gotten him the best Christmas present he could possibly ask for, especially after the night he's had! She doesn't have a clue about computers or phones, but for Silvio, it couldn't be better or more timely. The hug just makes it a sweet moment. Get your copy if you haven't already, to tide you over between Spider fixes.

The next full-length book in the series, Snared #16, is due out April 25, 2017, from Pocket Books. It's 400 pages, so it's something to sink your teeth into. So far it's got a four and a half star rating from reviewers, so it's looking pretty good!

This was a BookBub acquisition through Amazon. I give my honest review without compensation of any kind. All opinions are fully my own.

Nice Guys Bite by Jennifer Estep is a Christmas themed novella from her wonderful Elemental Assassin series. This was a different type of story; short, exciting, some fun, and only little bit of our heroine, Gin Blanco. Gin is in the holiday spirit, planning for her party for friends and family. She tries to get her assistant, Silvio to relax and take some time to have fun. For those who are not familiar with Silvio, he is a vampire, who became her assistant after Gin became the leader of the Ashland underworld. Silvio, after being pestered by Gin, finally agrees to go out for coffee with a charming new male friend.

While having some fun, Silvio is being charmed by his new friend, and realizes that someone is watching them. He excuses himself to quickly leave, so that his friend wouldn’t get hurt from the expected attack. What follows is an exciting adventure where Silvio and his friend are kidnapped, putting both of their lives in danger. Anything more would be spoilers, but it was exciting and fun to watch Silvio use his abilities to recognize that all is not what it seems.

I am a big fan of Jennifer Estep, and this story had a lot of action, but also some humor as we see Gin planning her party. It is the holiday season, and Estep has given us a quick fun read to hold us over for the next full Elemental Assassin book, Snared, coming in April, 2017.

"Nice Guys Bite" is Silvio Sanchez's story. He is the personal assistant to Ginn Bianco but sometimes has a hard time setting business aside to enjoy life. Well, it's the holidays and Ginn isn't about to let him bombard her or anyone else with business during her upcoming Christmas party. As matter of fact, Silvio was invited to have coffee with a customer he has been flirting with for several weeks and today is that day.

What's the saying? The course of true love never runs smoothly. Well, that is certainly the case with Silvio as he and his date are kidnapped and taken hostage. His kidnappers what to know everything they can about Ginn Bianco's secrets and they are not above torturing Silvio's date in order to make him crack. The one thing they didn't count on was the 'nice guys bite."

I love the Elemental Assassin series as well as the novellas. They allow us to delve into the lives of the supporting characters in the series from their point of view. It is amazing that this series is now at book 15 and is still going strong. As always, kudos to Ms. Estep!

Finally Silvio gets his own novella!

This was a wonderful novella, even if it was a little sad. I have liked Silvio since he was introduced. He really is the perfect assistant for Gin. We finally get to see him really handle a problem on his own and he is a pro. I liked that he doesn’t let his emotions get in the way of completing the job, even when his heart was breaking.

This also had a lot of holiday cheer to it, even with the dead bodies. I loved seeing Gin get into the holiday spirit with a party, even if her idea of decorating was very unique. Also, Sophia’s outfit was awesome and I love that we are always getting to see her goth outfits!

This was a very enjoyable novella. I do hope we get a longer story with Silvio in the future though, especially after that potential hint of who might be interested in him at the end of this story.
