Carly Springfield is the epitome of the girl next door—wholesome and sweet—she fits the image of an elementary school teacher perfectly. She loves kids and volunteers in the community in her spare time. To most people, it might seem like she has a great life, only she has demons in her closet. Big scary nightmares about her past that threaten her future chance at happiness, forcing her to always look over her shoulder.
Sean Callahan loves his job as CFO of Harper Construction. He’s laid back, funny and always willing to lend a hand. As the youngest child from a big Irish family, he’s used to being waited on hand and foot, not that he ever wants that. He had to leave his hometown just to prove he could stand on his own two feet—prove to his family he was an adult.
When Carly walks into his office one day, he realizes that all he ever wanted is standing right in front of him. The only problem is she’s skittish, almost fragile. Coming from a family full of strong independent women, he isn’t sure how to handle her, or if she even wants to be handled.
I give this book 3.5 stars. It started off a bit slow, at least it did for me. It took several chapters and a few days for me to get into this book. But once I did, it really was an enjoyable read.
Carly had a terrible childhood. Her father was abusive and her mother stayed with him until she found out that he was hitting Carly as well. So one night after a huge fight, her mother grabbed Carly after her father was called into work, and the two of them braved a bad snowstorm and ran. They stopped to pick up her Grandmother and the 3 of them hid for the past 20 years. Carly has never told anyone her story, her best friend, Brynn, knows bits and pieces of it.
She used to be afraid of being around big men, they were intimidating to her. Until she got to know them, she would claim up around them. If a man lost their temper, she would fear them; her father was like that. Would she ever find the man of her dreams?
Sean sees Carly all the time at the office when she visits Brynn. Yet each time he says hello, she gets shy around him. He's interested in her and wants to get to know her better. Can he break down her walls?
I wanted Carly to have everything! Happiness and Love. She deserved it. Sean was willing to give it. Natalie Ann knows how to hook you into a group of people. We get to watch them battle for their HEAs. I loved their story.
This series just keeps getting better and better! Carly's story is heart wrenching! No child should grow up being abused or seeing their mother going thru that. Carly basically deals with PTSD as an adult but overcomes it!
The 2nd book I have read in this series. I haven't read in order, would make more sense if I did, I am sure. I enjoyed this book, was able to read in 24 hours, since writing style is similar to book 5. I totally fell for Sean, he knew he needed to relocate from his family in order to become his own man. Although, his family always treated him as the baby of the family, he recognized what they were doing & didn't want to hurt them. I agreed they were OK in small doses. I enjoyed Carly's story, but found it hard to believe she could do so much volunteer work. It seemed as if grading her student's papers & doing her lesson plans would be enough to keep her busy. SPOILER...I could feel Carly's pain & fears, could feel her accepting the blame for her biological father's mistake. I felt as if she & her mother should have participated in therapy. I look forward to more books in this series.
Child abuse is hard to understand, much less get over. Carly was a victim of abuse, as was her mother. She meets Sean and falls in love, who comes looking for her, but the abuser himself.
Once again Natalie Ann has added to the All Series with a great romance, but this one has a twist that will tear at your heart.
Sean felt an immediate reaction to Carly the first time he saw her. Carly, on the other hand, seemed to avoid him like he had a communicable disease. When Carly's best friend marries Sean's business partner (read All the Way, you won't be disappointed), Carly and Sean are thrown together and romance ensues.
This is such a great series. It started with The Road to Recovery and All I Want is book four in the second series about the same group of friends and relatives. I have read each book and enjoyed each and every one. You don't need to start at the beginning of the series to figure out what is going on, but I am glad I did. It's enjoyable to read how each couple is progressing.
I would have purchased this book no matter what because I like the series, but I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. These opinions are solely my own and I was not compensated in any way.
Carly had a drought start in life. Because if this, she is scared and shy with men. She wants to fall in love but is scared of what could happen when a man gets mad. Sean feels something for Carly and realizes he needs to take it slow. But then her past comes back......
This book warmed my heart. I was smiling and fell in love with these two. I loved reading the changes in Carly and her blossom with Sean. He was so patient, loving, gentle, etc. He was exactly what she needed. And want he did in the end, dang....what a wonderful man.
This was not a quick read. I would say Sean and Carly's characters were fully developed. The storyline also dealt with elements of domestic violence. I thought it was interesting that neither Carly nor her mother received counseling for what they had been through. I imagine a number of people dont, but, I have read a number of books where the counseling ended up being a large part of the storyline.
After her initial hesitation, it was nice to see Carly open up to Sean, and then his family. No worries. You definitely get your HEA in this book.
Such a sweet and touching story of a woman with a horrible childhood finding love and learning to live beyond her fears. Sean was the perfect guy for Carly to help her find what she'd been looking for her whole life. Though there was some serious topics touched on and you felt the pain Carly went through, Sean and his family added a touch of humor to make this a very enjoyable read. I couldn't put it down once I picked it up.
I want to live in "their" world where non drama adults live. Where people handle problems with maturity. Where love is given and shown freely. But no. TV is filled with reality shows where people scream and hostility reigns.
Thank goodness for author's like Natalie Ann. Makes like good. Enjoy the book and don't forget to look for more of her books or books recommended by her.
This was a good book to read. I liked the characters. This book has sad and sweet moments. I want my own guy like this. I loved this part: He dropped his forehead to hers, closed his eyes, then opened them back up. “You’re all I want.”
The best thing I can say, is it was a nice, clean romance. I really wanted to love it, but for some reason I just couldn't warm up to the characters. The heroine just left me cold.
This is a wonderful love story that tells and shows you that you need to appreciate what you have with your love ones because someone else may have a nightmare while you have a dream so enjoy the dream and the series.
Well written contemporary romance, though I felt that the physical side moved much too fast. The story addressed a difficult subject of domestic violence, and given that, some aspects of their relationship did not make sense. I also could not understand why she was not honest with him much sooner.
I just love Sean and his family! It was great to read about the previous characters and see where they are in their lives too. Looking forward to the next in the series!
I have liked Sean since we first met him. I am glad he got his own story. Although I missed the original families I was glad the Sean also had a big family.
