Happy Ever After in Christmas

Rate this book
It's beginning to look a lot like love . . .

As her thirtieth birthday approaches, deputy Jill Flaherty decides it's time to live a little. When she walks into Sawyer Anderson's bar in her sexiest dress, she's not thinking that he's her brother's best friend or about the many women he dated during his years as a pro hockey player. All she's thinking is that it's finally time to confess to her longtime crush how she truly feels.

Sawyer is done being a player on and off the ice. Yet no one in the small town of Christmas seems to believe he's ready to settle down, not Jill, and certainly not Jack, who is determined to keep Sawyer from breaking his little sister's heart. But as Sawyer and Jill's relationship heats up, can he prove that he's her happy ever after?

I liked this one. Very heartfelt and it's no secret that I love the unrequited love trope. This book certainly delivers on the unrequited love element, which I really enjoyed.

I am a huge fane of the Christmas, Colorado series and I love each and every one of them. Ms. Mason has a gift for taking away from your world and putting you in this sweet small town that is full of love, friendship and family.

Deputy Jill Flaherty doesn’t remember a time when she wasn’t in love with her brother’s best friend Sawyer Anderson. Now that they are older not much has changed. He still treats her like a little sister and she longs for him to see her as something more.

Finally it happens and things seem to be moving slowly in the right direction for them. Then something unexpected happens (that made me cry!) and the relationship they were working towards may be gone for good…

This whole series is a five star series. I do recommend that you read these books in order. The reason is because you will understand the secondary characters in each book better after you have read their stories.

Happy Ever After in Christmas was a good read.

It was sweet, romantic and the storyline held my interest.
There were a few things that I didn't enjoy, especially having said that it wasn't enough to take away from my overall enjoyment of Jill and Sawyer's story.

Overall Happy Ever After in Christmas was a solid, entertaining read, with complex characters that bring out all the feels and leave you with a smile on your face.

Reviewed for herding cats & burning soup.

You know how some series just make you sigh in absolute contentment every time you crack one of the books open? That's so Christmas, Colorado for me. Mason always makes me smile and touches my heart in the most unexpected and wonderful ways. And her heroines? Totally kick ass and awesome!

The quick of it is that Jill has had a thing for her brother's best friend for practically ever. And recently she's made a dream board of all the things she wants in life. The house on a lake, becoming sheriff, and finally snagging the man who's had her heart for so many years. She's just gotta get him to snap to it and pay attention to what's right in front of his face. Mmhm!

So. 5 Things about Happy Ever After in Christmas...

>>> Jill and Sawyer were both amazing characters. She's got the whole badass cop thing happening and is a little edgy and fierce with a hard outer shell. And Sawyer is laid back with a little cocky happening and one seriously soft underbelly. They were something! They're just good people that cared greatly for those around them. I loved who they were and that they both had some things happening that you wouldn't know from just looking at the surface.

>>> Heat-wise there's lots of yummy tension but all the naughty is off page. I usually prefer a bit more heat but Mason manages to keep me from missing it. Amazing!

>>> Their romances is bumpy. They had a lot of little road blocks from her brother not approving to skanky home-wrecking barmaids to unexpected surprises and losses along the way. There was some funny and some sweet but also some really hard things to get past. It made my heart hurt for them and made me want to shake them both on occasion when they wee just being stubborn and shutting each other out.

>>> Time on the job! I love when you actually get to see characters doing what they do. It really makes them come alive and seeing how passionate they were about what they did--especially Jill--was pretty awesome. I loved her on the job. Seriously. She's kick ass. She says it like it is and gets things done. It was fun seeing her go through some sensitivity training with the old folks home and bonding with them, seeing her work on a case and deal with some danger happening.

>>> The town--It's something, these people. They'd drive you crazy with their small town nosy gossipy ways but at the same time life wouldn't be nearly as amazing without them. They can really come together and are just so dang special.

All in all, Mason continues to delight. I just love Christmas, Colorado and the people who call it home. They've made a place in my heart and aren't letting go any time soon. Jill and Sawyer, well, they were just a lovely addition and everything I could have asked for.

I always love coming back to Christmas, Colorado and with each new story the more I want to move there. Mason really out did herself in this new installment. In this story we get tough as nails deputy Jill Flaherty who falls for her brothers best friend Sawyer.

Jill has always loved Sawyer but he has only ever seen her as his best friends younger sister. As Jill approaches thirty it's time to finally ask Sawyer out, but it's not going to be easy. While Jill is making plans to get up the nerve to ask him out another is moving in. Jill decides after a big fail to finally try to move on only to have Sawyer start to sabotage her dates with other men one by one. But Jill's big brother just might stand in there way of HEA.

I've probably have said this before but this might be my favorite book in this series. I loved Jill and thought she was an excellent heroine who was strong and willing to put herself out there. Sawyer came off as a playboy but he actually wasn't. Once this story got going I couldn't put it down and found myself wondering how and when these two would finally get together.

As far as drama goes this book had just enough for my taste with some surprises thrown in. It also included some of my characters from previous books that this series just couldn't do without. The road to Jill and Sawyers romance was a bit bumpy but definitely worth the wait.

Also during this book we get to know a little more about Nell. While she seems content on being alone in previous books after reading Happy Ever After in Christmas there is definitely more to her own story. Knowing this made me like more from previous books and glad that just maybe she will have her own HEA in the end.

This story was entertaining and had some really cute moments that kept it going. One of my favorites is when Jill dresses up and gets a little drunk. Sawyer handled it well but it still seemed like just maybe he should have given in to what he actually wanted instead of trying to down play his feelings through most of the book.

Will there be another Christmas book after this? I hope so! I can't get enough of the different characters who I have come to adore. One thing Mason does well is give you The HEA that each and every character is deserved. Sawyer and Jill's was special even if some heartache had to happen for them to get theirs in the end. Of course while reading their are some surprises that I wasn't expecting but I thought they made the story better.

This was a great read and I am looking forward to more of this series!

Well. I just don't know where to start. Did I like this? Overall, yes. I like stories that involve falling for the best friend's sister/brother. I had that here - Jill has loved Sawyer since she was 10. She grew up with him and her brother Jack. I had the angst of Sawyer not wanting to fall for her and when Jack found out about them. It was great! My problem was mainly Sawyer. He had a reputation as player and did nothing to change everyone's perception about it even though he hadn't been with anyone in almost a year and realized he was ready to settle down. He was kind of mean to Jill at the beginning of the book and when she walked into his bar all dressed to seduce, HE DID NOT RECOGNIZE HER! I'm sorry. He's known her for a over 20 years and he has no clue that it's her in a dress and with makeup on???? And finally, when they're together, he never made it clear to Jill that he was in love with her.

My other problem was Brandi. She was the manager of Sawyer's bar and had the obvious hots for him. He knew it. The whole stinking town knew it. He said he didn't want anything serious with her yet he kept playing happy family with her and her son Trent. Brandi flat out told him she didn't love him but she wanted to be with him and even marry him. Brandi also did everything she could to put Jill down. If I had been a man that didn't want a serious relationship with her, knowing what she wanted, I would have steered clear. Even when Jill pushed Sawyer away after a major heartbreak, he went right back to having dinner with Brandi and her son. NO! Not cool on either one of their parts. And to top it off after that , Jill was the one who did the groveling.

On the upside, this was well written and had a wonderful cast of supporting characters that were the main focus of the previous books. The people in Christmas, Colorado care for one another and it was evident. I wouldn't mind going back and reading some of the other characters stories.

Deputy Jill Flaherty has been in love with her brother's best friend all her life, but he's never seen her as more than his bestie's younger sister. With everyone around them falling in love and the clock ticking against her, Jill thinks it's time to reach out for her own happiness, even if it means putting herself out there with Sawyer.

Sawyer Anderson has successfully cultivated the persona of a playboy and no-one in Christmas expects anything else from him, but his best friend's sister is off limits, not matter how hot she looks in a red dress. But when things change between them and he realizes that he feels more for her than friendship, can he convince her to give them a chance at happy ever after?

I'm always excited to pick up a new installment in this series because I know I'll love it and doubly so because this is my favorite trope. Plus, it's about time Jill got her own happy ending. In fact, Jill was my favorite thing about this book. She's loyal, hardworking, strong and independent, maybe a little too much, but her hard outer shell covers a sensitive and easily bruised inside. I can relate to her need to keep her personal life private, which is almost impossible in Christmas because everyone knows that there is no secret in Christmas.

Sawyer on the other hand I didn't really like very much because of how indecisive he was about Jill and the other stuff he had going on, and it wasn't until the end that he endeared himself to me with how he thoughtful and sweet he was.

Any story in this series is never complete without the people of Christmas, especially Nell and I loved the glimpses into her past that we got, but even more I loved the connection between her and Jill and how she was the only person that could reach Jill when she needed it. One thing about this story and the series is that Ms. Mason knows how to really tap into a reader's feelings and you are sure to experience a range of emotions as you read.
HAPPY EVER AFTER IN CHRISTMAS is another fun and entertaining addition to the series and I hope that there is more to come.

If you've followed my reviews for this series you'll notice I walk away with pretty much the same feelings about each book. On one hand I love the stories and the characters. On the other hand I'm annoyed with the heroes of the stories and their strange need to protect and stand up for everyone around them except for the one they are in love with, at least publicly.

This time around there was less of a feeling that Sawyer didn't protect and stand up for Jill but he did probably give off the wrong impression of his relationship with Brandi. Speaking of Brandi...why are the women in this town so catty to each other one minute and then super nice the next? Brandi's behavior towards Jill for a majority of this book was horrid and reminded me of high-school pettiness. Thankfully though it didn't seem like Sawyer put up with it as much as some of the guys in the other books seemed to.

Jill was kind of rough around the edges but I was prepared for that after her appearance in previous books. She's been in love with Sawyer for most of her life and he's always treated her like a little sister. When things go in a different direction she has trouble believing that his feelings for her are genuine. Honestly, the way he acted most of the time, I can't say I blame her. However, when he did finally get his head out of his ass, he more than made up for that behavior.

The romance between Sawyer and Jill was slow to start but the story flowed extremely well and made it all feel very believable. It was hard not to root for them to get their HEA.

I love that we got a good glimpse into past characters, especially the insight into the town matchmaker/troublemaker Nell. I'm hopeful there will be more books in this series and that we'll get even more of her story and maybe even see her get her own happy ending.

Favorite Quotes:

Not that she was beautiful; the only way she stopped traffic was by turning on her siren.

Her lumbersexual. He sounds wonderful doesn't he, Alice? ... We're so happy she has a beau. We thought she was a lesbian, you know.

As he walked back down the road, she reached over the seat and grabbed the bullhorn. She yelled into it, 'I love you, Sawyer Anderson.' She was pretty sure all of Christmas heard her.

My Review:

Silly me, I really should pay more attention. I picked up this book thinking it was about Christmas, well, it was, but not the season. Christmas was the small town featured in all seven books of this entertaining series, and I would love to go backward and read the previous six. Each character mentioned in this tightly knit, meddling, and gossipy group sounded interesting and noteworthy. I wanted to know them all, well, most of them anyway. The writing was engaging and vacillated from angsty and emotive to humorous and amusing. Also included were hits of steam, intrigue, personal loss, policewoman action, and tied up at the end with a pretty bow and sigh of relief HEA.

Happy Ever After in Christmas
by Debbie Mason is the final book in the Christmas, Colorado series. If you haven’t started the series, no worries! Each book can be read as a standalone (I myself didn’t start the series until two books ago) and still enjoyed. However I do recommend reading the entire series if you like sweet, contemporary romance set in a small town where everyone is in everyone else’s business. In this final installment of the series, Jill Flaherty is tired hitting the cruise control on her life and ready to live it. First things first though is getting the man she’s in love with to see her as anything but her brother’s baby sister. Sawyer Anderson is the town’s consummate bachelor and playboy, but when it comes to Jill he’s blind to her feelings and his own.

I really like Jill. I liked her in the previous stories as well and was excited to read hers. She’s the town’s deputy, takes no bull crap, and isn’t a damsel in distress. BUT she’s still a girl, something most of the men (including her own brother) forget. As her 30th birthday approaches, she realizes that her dreams of having a family may not come to fruition especially if she continues to pine after her brother’s best friend Sawyer.

Sawyer is another character I liked before reading this story but I love him now! He is the product of a single mom and his overprotection of Jill is sweet bordering on annoying. I wanted to yell at him through the pages that he didn’t get her at all. He may know her better than anyone but the man is blind to her feelings and his own, which totally made for an awesome read. Sawyer is hesitant to be anything more than a friend to Jill because he doesn’t want to risk his 22 year friendship with Jack, but he doesn’t want anyone else with her either….

The plot centers around the evolving relationship between Jill and Sawyer. My heart bled for them as I read. Jill is hopelessly in love, turning down good prospects or just not enjoying them when she does decide to date. Sawyer at first doesn’t recognize his own feelings and then denies them because of Jack. The whole town seems to be in on it as well, working their magic to get the two together. There’s one particular event in the story that hit close to home for me and I needed several boxes of tissues and a cuddle from my husband to make it through.

Overall I loved this book! It’s my favorite of the series (granted I’ve said that with every book I’ve read). The story is sweet, heart-wrenching and the town gets a happy ever after as the title suggests. While I’m sad there won’t be more from this little town and Nell, I’m happy with the conclusion. All the previous characters make an appearance and their happy ever afters are solidified. If you’re a fan of the series, you don’t want to miss this conclusion. If you enjoy contemporary romance, I highly recommend it!

I loved returning to Christmas, Colorado. Although I have not read all of the earlier books, I adore each of the books I have read to date.

There was just something about Jill Flaherty in the earlier books that gave me a but feeling that I would really like about her story.

And like I did. I think this is my favourite of the Christmas, Colorado books to date.

Jill - tough as nails with a heart of gold, she has endeared herself to me in previous books with her love for her family and friends

We can all relate to her and her crush on her brother's best friend Sawyer. Who hasn't love/lusted after a friend at some time?

Then there is Sawyer. Hot damn, the damage I would do to that man! Sweet, sexy, hot as Hades!

Watching Jill and Sawyer dance around each other gives us that delayed gratification for if/when they finally do get their act together. Though with this title, is it really a matter of if?

I am late to this series, but Ms Mason is quickly becoming one of those authors that I will always pick up and read when I get the chance.

Each visit to Christmas is like coming home to an extended family, being wrapped up in a warm blanket whilst sipping a cup of hot chocolate.

I can't wait to see what Ms Mason brings us next.

Jill can't remember not being in love with Sawyer. Ever since they were children she looked up to her brother Jack's best friend. Jack has made perfectly clear that his sister is off-limits, so Sawyer isn't supposed to think about her in a romantic way. Jill wants to change his feelings for her and decides that instead of the tomboy cop she usually is she now will be a sexy cop, someone Sawyer has to notice. It's time for a confession, so she can finally find out if her longtime crush will actually like her back.

Sawyer has a reputation. Everyone sees him as a player, a man who will never settle down. The one time he loved someone he almost lost the most important people in his life and Sawyer isn't prepared to go there again. Jill isn't easy to stay away from though. Maybe it's time for Sawyer to start making plans for the future. Only will anyone believe him if he says he's ready for a serious relationship and if he'll have one, will it be with Jill? There are plenty of women who would like to marry Sawyer. Will he and Jill have a chance to be happy together or is there really just friendship between them?

Happy Ever After in Christmas is a heartwarming romantic story. Jill is tough and she can stand up for herself. She's a cop and she's good at what she does. She can protect herself and is looking out for others all the time. I loved that side of her. She's also someone who loves deeply and unconditionally. She's a wonderful person and that made it easy to sympathize with her and to love her story.

Sawyer is gorgeous and he's sweet. He's always there for the people who need him. He even makes promises that aren't good for his own happiness to protect others. He's generous and chivalrous, which is a great combination. He's just as easy to like as Jill and I enjoyed reading about them. They have such good chemistry and I couldn't wait to see if they would get their happy ending. I adored their protective instincts and loved seeing the things they are prepared to do for each other over and over again.

Debbie Mason's writing is warm and friendly. I liked everything about Happy Ever After in Christmas. The descriptions of the town and its inhabitants are delightful, the atmosphere is brilliant and there's so much kindness and respect. I'm a big fan of small town romances and the Christmas Colorado series is amazing. The books can be read as standalones, but I would recommend you to read them all because they are so lovely. Debbie Mason's charming stories always manage to put a smile on my face.

Usually I love when I have a new Debbie Mason to read and review but Happy Even After in Christmas had me up-in-arms before I even read it. Part of the reason was that I knew that it was the last book in the series!

Let's take a moment for everyone to be able to yell about that fact!

Now that you got that out of your system lets get back to the review. That's right, it's the last book. I was both happy (that Sawyer and Jill got their story) and heartbroken that I was leaving town and moving away.

Of course I know that sometimes you have to move on and a little part of me can't wait. But I will miss everyone in Christmas!

So let's talk Jill and Sawyer! I wasn't always a big fan of Jill's. It wasn't that I didn't like her, I did. But she sometimes is a little hard on the nerves. On the other hand, sometimes I think the people of Christmas are too hard on her and forget that she does have feelings.

Don't you just love a book that makes you think about things like this? Mason is wonderful at making you not like someone in one book and love them in the next.

Deep down inside, Jill is like the rest of us...a wreck! She has the same worries and insecurities that we all have. Made me like her even more. You also have to feel for a woman that has loved the same man for like...forever!

That would be Sawyer. He is so sweet and hot!!! Of course he's also dense at times and tries to ignore things he really shouldn't...a man all the way!

You will really love the dance that Jill and Sawyer do. These two have a issue getting on the same page, but we all know they are perfect for each other! So often as I read their story I yelled at one or the other because they drove me crazy! They were blind to what was best for each other!

They really should have asked me. :)

If you haven't yet read Mason's Christmas, Colorado series this is the perfect time to do so. All the books are out and with it being summer, they are the perfect beach reads. I'm so happy that I was able to make this journey with Mason. I cried, laughed and in general had a great time in Christmas! Now I look forward to moving to Harmony Harbor!

"Happy Ever After in Christmas" by Debbie Mason

My Thoughts....

This was another beautiful entertaining novels by this author in Christmas, Colorado featuring Jill Flaherty and Sawyer Anderson. What will happen when Jill has feelings for her brother's best friend? I loved how we got to see that all Jill really wanted was a family of her own.

This story really give the reader a good well written read when at times the heroine did have me shaking my head wondering when will she see just what is right in front of her and going after it before it is too late and not letting anyone stop her? I know when the story starts out it we found out that Jill has cared for Sawyer since childhood but now was almost thirty wasn't it time to either ask him out or move on with her life? And what about Sawyer and his best friend Jack[who was somewhat over protective brother]...what were they up to when they started setting Jill up with different guys? Now just what did they expect was to happen? At this point I know the reader is wondering what was wrong with Sawyer that even his best friend Jack didn't want his sister Jill dating him? As this dramatic story continues I liked how this author seemed to bring in many surprises giving the reader quite a few twist and turns before we get to the end. The readers will see many characters from several earlier series and some new ones [Chloe, Easton, Gage, Vivi, Chance, Brandi, Nell & Ty] to name a few that will tie into this story of 'Happy Ever Ever' [which was seventh in this series] however, this can be a standalone read to enjoy!

This will be a story of with lots of drama, humor, misunderstandings, surprises, heartache and even some hot steamy passion. In the end will Deputy Jill Flaherty get the HEA with former Ice player Sawyer Anderson with the help of family and friends on this rough ride? Well, to see how this author brings this all to a end the readers you will have to pick up this good read of a small town romance in Christmas, Colorado. Would I recommend? YES, if you are into romance.

Debbie Mason writes breezy small-town romances that are full of fun, yet she has a mean streak. Her stories are filled with people who are human and multi-layered and she engages the readers by making them care so much for her fictional town and it's citizens. I know my blood pressure rose a time or two. She creates characters that you want to strangle in one book and then root for in the next. (That's right, Chloe! I still don't know how she saved your behind, but she did).

Jill has been crushing on her brother's best friend Sawyer since she was a kid. She isn't perfect and she made me growl a time or two before and in this book, she has me wishing for a protection spell to guard her vulnerable heart. Then there is Sawyer, the sexy bar owner and former hockey star. I've always enjoyed him before, but in HAPPY EVER AFTER IN CHRISTMAS, I wanted to smack him upside of the head and yell a little. He had me worried there for a while, thick-headed male. And clueless, too, especially when it came to his manager Brandi who wants a dad for her son even if she doesn't love him.

Sawyer, snap out of it!

Anyway, Jill and Sawyer really had their timing off on their road to the HEA. It was bumpy! It was so engaging as more layers to these friends to lovers unfolded and the tension was intense. Jill may be unsuccessful in the love department, but she is a great deputy who is good at her job and doesn't need someone to save her. Sawyer is a good guy who thinks it might be time to settle down. Unfortunately, he has a reputation as a player. He starts to see Jill in a different light after seeing her in a sexy red dress, but he doesn't want to lose his friendship with Jack either. They already had a falling out a few years back. Still, the heart wants what the heart wants, but the brain is giving Sawyer a lot of trouble.

It was also great to revisit with some previous characters. Love is in the air, babies are coming, and Cat and Grayson are getting married soon. In the town of Christmas, you find love, loyalty, family, friendship, as well as drama, misunderstandings, and emotional hurdles. People are growing and changing. Mix them all together and you have the perfect blend of a great heart-warming romance written by Debbie Mason.

HAPPILY EVER AFTER IN CHRISTMAS is the seventh novel in the Christmas, Colorado series by Debbie Mason. Christmas is a charming small town where everyone knows everyone. It can be difficult to live there because it is tough to keep anything a secret, but yet it is a great place to live because everyone cares about each other and does their best to support and protect when needed.
To everyone in town, Deputy Jill Flaherty is strong, competent and reliable, but to Sawyer Anderson, the local bartender, Jill is just his best friend Jack’s little sister. Jill has had a crush on Sawyer since she was 10 years old, and she decides that, since she is almost 30, it’s time to let him know how she feels. Sawyer has quite a reputation as a player, so Jack warns Sawyer to leave his sister alone. Sawyer tries to do as his friend asks, but he also finds himself sabotaging any other relationship that Jill might have.
Of course, Sawyer eventually realizes that he is attracted to Jill, also, but getting to the HEA for these two isn’t easy. It is, however, fun for the reader who is following this couple through many twists, turns and other surprises.
It is especially fun for those readers who have read some or all of the other books in this series. The town is actually a strong character in this series, with many of the characters from the other books, including the main characters from this book, woven in and out of the story. This is the only problem I found with this otherwise enjoyable and well-written book: while it can easily be read as a standalone novel, I often felt that I was missing things by not having read all of the earlier books.
Luckily, there is an easy solution to this problem. I need to go back and read the other novels in this delightful series and I can’t wait to get started. I’m giving HAPPILY EVER AFTER IN CHRISTMAS four stars, but I might change that to five stars after I’ve read the others!

I swear, every new book in this series becomes my new favorite. Each time I think surely it will get tired, or boring, I'm again proven completely wrong. I have come to know and love this town so much, and its cast of nosy but well-meaning characters just continues to bury themselves in my heart.

Jill is our kick-ass officer. She's been trying to prove her own strength for years, surrounded by a protective older brother and his best friend, Sawyer. She knows what she's capable of, but they don't always see her strength. She has perhaps overcompensated for this by developing a no nonsense, take no prisoners attitude and philosophy on life. This doesn't mean she doesn't love hard too. She's fiercely protective of her close friends and family. Too bad Sawyer still sees her as the kid sister of his best friend. Or does he?

Watching the characters grow and develop was, as always in this series, one of my favorite aspects. It always feels so natural, and about so much more than just pleasing another person. Jill works on her public relations to better herself, and develops amazing friendships as she does. Sawyer wants to be more than the serial dater he's always been made out to be. These personal reasons for changing always make it feel more realistic, more likely to stick.

Add in a slightly forbidden romance, and a sort of second chance one at that, and I was hooked. Throw in a sexy as hell man who is good with kids? I'm lost. It's over. I'm in love.

Definitely cannot wait to see what's next for this crazy town. ~ George, 5 stars

This is the third book that I have read of Debbie Masons and the 7th book in her Christmas, Colorado series. Debbie does a great job of creating well developed, multi-dimensional characters that grab your attention from the first couple chapters in her book and holds you until the end. She did not disappoint with this book. An example of this was that she took the readers through a waterfall of experiences and emotions that the characters experienced through the book from love, friendship and danger.

In addition to the developed characters that Debbie created she also was able to create a great back drop and scenery for this book. She was descriptive enough to allow you to picture the town and people in the community but not go overboard where you were waiting for the chapter to end.

Lastly, I really enjoyed the storyline in the book. Debbie incorporated humor, friendship, family, danger and sadness all in one book. Someone would worry that would be hard to do being that it wasn't a super 600 page novel but Debbie did it and it was well written. Can't wait to see who she chooses for the next book. I am secretly hoping it is Sawyer's manager as she deserves happily ever after but we will have to wait and see.

I always do the "happy dance" when a new Debbie Mason book comes out. Reading her "Christmas in Colorado" series is just a great escape to a quaint little town with absolute endearing characters. Jill and Sawyer's story will delight you and leave you anticipating the next book in the series. While each is a stand alone, I encourage everyone to read them all as Debbie's plot lines are always so good with wonderful conversation. You will truly enjoy each and everyone!!!

Our heroine is finally going to take a chance. The guy she's always had a crush on is available and she's going to let him know how she feels. Unfortunately, it didn't go as well as she hoped. Now he has to convince her and the whole town that he's interested, too.

Four stars for a romance novel. Now this is rare. But I'll tell you why this book earned it. It wasn't the romance that saved it.

When it came to Jill, the deputy of Christmas (the name of the Colorado town; and we thought Debbie Macomber was obsessed with that holiday...), and the former pro hockey player, Sawyer, there romance was a rollercoaster from the beginning. I'm not shocked that Jill's brother, Jack, was worried about her falling for him since he's surrounded by women all the time and has played the field (haha, I made a punny!). The townspeople are so fucking nosy that they post everything online that happens in their town and scream at the top of their lungs about coming across something dramatic. Even their newspaper puts petty drama on the front page. Talk about unprofessional and a waste of paper and ink. You would think newspapers would post something about what's happening in the real world.

The slut shaming with blonde women with big boobs and making them sound dumb was consistent. I know there are women out there who use their looks as an advantage, but I've grown tired of people bitching about it. It doesn't faze me in the slightest and most of the anger is coming from the main characters' unresolved issues of not telling each other how you feel.

For some reason, the author brought all the typical tropes into this story and played it out really fast. It was as if she did this on purpose since mainstream novels are prone to it all the time. Jill gets pregnant from Sawyer on their first time and, of course, he proposes to her, but it feels like he's doing it out of duty instead of love. But what made me realize he did mean it was when he bought a house for Jill. I know you can't buy someone's love with things especially if you're uber rich, but he is not the kind of guy who would have bought a house for someone he would normally have a one-night stand with. I would be shocked if someone did that for me. However, she has a miscarriage and pushes him and everyone else away.

There was the whole love triangle with the single mother, Brandi, and her teenage son, Trent, struggling to get away from an abusive ex-husband and father who kept stalking them. In the beginning, I hated her for using Sawyer's good nature to hide from her problems and would only marry him for security and to jump his bones. Her words, not mine. She admits it and I get that after dealing with a shitty previous relationship, she doesn't feel like she has a chance to finding true love. However, Brandi and Trent a huge role in this story and this makes me want to cheer for their existence.

From the beginning, Jill wanted to become a sheriff, but there were obstacles in her way with the public opinion, her getting pregnant, the town posting every incident of her doing something on the internet, and just plain sexism from people expecting her to have a man supporting her and having the whole package. There was a point where I thought Jill would give up and marry the man of her dreams popping out more babies.

But the author finally did something that should have been done a lot more in romance stories. She made Jill do her job as a cop, save Trent and his girlfriend from the abusive father, and stops him from shooting anymore bullets at Sawyer and his friend. She did this without backup and managed to shoot him twice in the shoulder and the gun out of his hand and apprehend him. Her actions helped her get a great boost in the sheriff campaign and she still gets to be a cop even after winning the man of her dreams. I didn't give a rat's ass about the sappiness because her saving the day instead of a man made me so fucking happy! You would think mainstream novels want women to be saved by men, but Debbie Mason stomped on that. She lead me on with all the romantic tropes until the very end and made Jill propose to Sawyer in the end. It's nice for once that women take the lead. Can I get an amen?!

Jill Flaherty is a deputy in a small town and her thirtieth birthday is just around the corner. With prospects of a serious guy on the horizon she has set her sights on being the next sheriff. The problem with that is she has a slight anger management issue and after numerous complaints she is now doing community service at the senior center. Sawyer Anderson, is a former professional hockey player, and a player in general. Now that his best friend is back from the service after being missing in action, story from another book. Jack, Jill’s brother has made it a point to let Sawyer know to stay away from his sister. The problem is that they like each other, and most of the town knows Jill has been in love with Sawyer since forever. Even Jack’s wife knows. This all come to a head when Sawyer and Jill are asked to watch Jill’s nephew. From there the story really takes off. There are serious moments, funny moments, and guys punching their friends. This is a very good book and has very good characters that I think most people can relate too. Take time to give it a read you won’t be disappointed. I got this book netgalley. I gave it 5 stars. Deputy Jill Flaherty is turning 30 and she wants to get her life in order. Go a little wild. So she has Ty get her all made up for a night on the town in Christmas, Colorado. This is the 7th book in this series and so you get to read about all the characters from the other books become a part of this story. Jill has always liked Sawyer but he her brother's best friend. Sawyer has always been a player so her brother Jack, has always warned him away from her. Sawyer doesn't want to be a player anymore and wants to settle down and he has his sight on Jill. But they end up having to babysit their godson for a couple of days and things heat up between them. Will they finally get their ever after or will obstacles and other people get in the way? I have loved this series from the very first book.

Happy Ever After in Christmas is a great book to just read, sit back and enjoy. There is no deep hidden meaning. There is no great mystery or deep philosophy. It is just a pleasant, entertaining book, full of wonderful characters (major and minor) with plenty of drama and romance. This was the first book that I read of the Christmas, Colorado series. All the characters appeared (I assume) in the rest of Ms. Mason's books but there was enough background to all of them so I never felt lost or overwhelmed. Curl up in your favorite chair, have a cup of tea and get immersed into the latest story from Christmas, Colorado. You will be glad you dropped in for a visit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I thought it was going to be a Christmas themed book so I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that it takes place in the town of Christmas.
Jill is a woman on the verge of 30 who works at the town police department and aspires to be sheriff some day. She is attracted to/in love with her older brother's best friend, Sawyer, who runs the local bar but he seems to be interested in one night stands.
One week, Jill and Sawyer end up caring for Jill's nephew and circumstances change their relationship forever.
Add in Brandi, a single mom who works for Sawyer, Ty, a hairdresser, and several other well meaning townsfolk and it is an interesting story.
