** The cover of the book I'm reading is far, FAR more professional. I'm only sorry that I don't know how to get the new cover loaded. 😢 **
This is my second Mercy Mares cosy mystery and it's really cemented my love of Mercedes. Well written and fast paced it's perfect for those times you want to give your little grey cells a rest from heavier novels. In this novella Mercy is her usual frazzled self when trying to solve a murder, with the body found while she is in the midst of a job interview. I swear Mercy has ADHD! I always read her prose like this
Lol, there is just something so frenetic about her, she's always running around like a chook with it's head cut off, making huge assumptions, but with a heart of gold. No wonder she's always exhausted!
An excellent example of what makes a good cosy read. Highly Recommended.
** As an aside I think the author has made quite a booboo in the last paragraph of the book. See if you can spot it. I may be wrong, but it doesn't make sense to me. I'll include the paragraph below.**
"James grabbed my hand and squeezed it gently as I listened to Nubbin go on and on. Charlie, while in the middle of a conversation with Hank, placed his hand on top of my other hand. There I sat between two of the most stubborn men I knew, talking to the third most stubborn man I knew. Life was good, if not complicated. The End"
If I'm not very much mistaken Mercy would need an extra arm! One to hold the phone, one James is holding and one that Charlie puts his hand on.
This is the first book I've read in the series but it wasn't dependent on the earlier books. Mercy has a close group of interesting friends who come to her rescue when needing help or in times of trouble. Poor Mercy needs them when there is a murder on the day she interviews for a new job and a series of neighborhood thefts to solve.
I liked the book a lot. Mercy can get so frazzled and that make her like a normal person. The suspense is building up with her and Charly, you do not know if there are feelings or just friendship between them. Her friends Ruby, Hank, Tina and Nubbins are so loveable. It is a nice relaxing read.
I loved this cozy mystery with zany quirky characters, and a very entertaining plot. This book can be read as a standalone but reading books in order adds to your enjoyment of the books. I recommend this book those who love cozy mysteries.
Not quite as convoluted, though still lots of threads left dangling - enough so that I really have no clear idea how they got to the conclusion they did. And Mercy was so very unpleasant and petty in this one that I had a hard time rooting for her.
this is the third in the series that I have read and I loved them all. Mercy is always getting into trouble (no fault of her own) but always catching the bad guy and getting out of her mess. The series is even more interesting with her new beau in the mix.
This is the third book in the Mercy Mares series and it's a good one. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone. This quickly grabbed my attention and held it throughout. The story is fast paced and well plotted, there are a few unexpected twists that kept me guessing who the culprit was. I look forward to reading more in this series.
