Ghost Riders MC #1

Pulling Her Trigger

Rate this book
I thought I had all I needed: my gun, my chopper, and my brothers. Most women don't crave a life like mine, but after the things I've done and seen, I never thought I longed for more.

The Ghost Riders Motorcycle Club is my family and I'll bleed for them. I'll do anything to keep them safe, even if it's from me.

One look from him and everything I fought to hide was ripped wide open. Being an FBI agent gave him the power to flip my world upside down, and he did it in a way I never saw coming.

What happens when an FBI agent becomes more obsessed with you than with his case? Do you let down your guard? Or pull the trigger?

Warning: This book contains a heroine who doesn't submit, a hero who fights for what he's claimed, and insta-love so hard it will dent your kindle. *Not responsible for dented kindles*

Pulling Her Trigger is a complete novella. No cliffhangers. No alpha-hole. No cheating. HEA. STANDALONE.

So I'm just gonna go ahead and DNF here at 25%...

description

Because, I'm #sorrynotsorry - I like crazy weird kink and all...

...but the FBI AGENT "Hero" slappin' the salami whilst LITERALLY spying on the "heroine" - whom he hasn't even actually met yet?

Through her bedroom window?

At night?

Like a run of the mill PEEPING TOM?

description

And then coming all over the side of her house?

Let me repeat that for those just joining us...

He actually EJACULATES.

All. Over. The. Side. Of. Her. HOUSE, people...

Every night.

For. A. Fucking. WEEK.

The book had hope. It was promising. The story was really good. But it was the hero's stupid form of dominance that popped up randomly and the weird-and-so-not-hot dirty talk that just soured my mood!

DNF at 40%. Thank god I didn't pay any actual money for this.

The supposed "hero" stalks Mackenzie for a week, using info gained from his job as a detective. But this isn't just any ole' stalking.

He's hiding outside her bedroom window.

He's jizzing on her house.

Every night for a week. He masturbated on her house.

And lets not forget the part where they are about to get freaky and she insists MULTIPLE times that he's going to wear a condom. No condom, no sex. She couldn't have been clearer.

“Yes you are. You’re wearing a condom or we aren’t fucking.”

His response?

Before she can protest, I pull her ass off the edge of the bed, and slam her down on my dick.

And that's where I rage quit. Mid sex scene, mid sentence.

Fuck this book.

I’ve been on an Alexa Riley run lately for two reasons.
1. I like the books
2. I’m behind on my reading challenge

Since I love MC books this seemed like a good choice for me but it wasn’t the book I’d hoped for.
I struggled with Mackenzie, now don’t get me wrong I’m all for a strong intelligent woman making it in a man’s world but Mackenzie didn’t work for me.
Vincent. Normally I would have loved Vincent, he fell in love with her from one look at her picture he adored her and put her before everything else including his career.
But.....
He stalked her, watched her undressing through her bedroom window while ejaculating against her house every night for a week.
That’s seriously creepy and wrong.

I’m jumping on my soap box for a minute, I won’t be long.

Alexa Riley as we knows write insta-love hot sexy books with no cheating and always a HEA and we love them but....
Just yesterday I had the H filling the h with his baby gravy (Unexpected Claim)
Then the H taking off the condom without the h knowing (His Rebel)
And now the H is peeping through windows and jacking off on the side of the h’s house
Is it me that’s being too picky?
I am picky I know but Alexa’s book were always one of my quick read go to but what’s going on?
I want the romance and the HEA and all those lovely epilogues but I don’t want deceit or a freaky house spraying stalker and I never ever want baby gravy. I mean that’s a huge NO.

Right I’m back and I think I’m going to leave Alexa’s books for awhile.

It's a good start to this series. I'm not into alpha heroines but in this one, it just worked. Yes, she's strong and even acted like a man at times but I didn't feel that he's weak. More of an equal. And I can't wait to read more about them in this series.

The story is about Vincent and Mackenzie a.k.a. 'Casper'.

Cas is the Sergeant at Arms for the Ghost Riders MC. She's a sniper in the Air Force. She's also the only woman patched in the club. The call her Casper for a reason.

Vincent is a federal agent. Her file landed on his desk and he knew she's the one for him.

Trusting him wasn't easy for her but he proved to her how important she is to him. She always comes first before anything else. He never asked her to change. He lets her be her and accepted it. He's proud to be with her. He protected her and did something against the law to save and protect her.

Meh. I wasn't a fan of the heroine. She's the sergeant in arms of a motorcycle club and the only female member. She's an ex military sniper and badass. Now there's badass where you're still feminine and then there's "I'm going to be more aggressive than a mating rooster to all dudes to show how dude like I am." I hate the latter. I read plenty of books with badass chicks that are way more dangerous than the guys and they aren't unfeminine. Cas/Mackenzie talking about her boobs was the only way I was able to figure out she was a chick for the first and second chapter, she's that sort of posturing. I really wasn't a fan at all with the idea of a female motorcycle club member, especially if you've read an MC book before. Those guys are gruff and basically have orgies when they're not running illegal trade. Yeah.

On to Vincent, the FBI agent. I've read other reviews complaining of his behavior before he met Mackenzie, that is him peeping tom-ing her window, whacking his salami off, and leaving his mark on the side of her house. Yeah, gross. I hope she makes him power wash the exterior. While his marking actions are gross, I was whatever about it, probably because I just read Thief by this author and that guy stalks the girl for weeks. Anywho, past that whacking time, he's very much into worshipping Mackenzie and going the distance to make her realize he accepts her being an MC member, etc etc. I liked Vincent because he's smexy and worships Mackenzie.

This book was steamy as are all AR books, but I could care less about Mackenzie and her MC brothers. Didn't like the plot or story, besides the romance part.

This is the first in a series of standalone novellas about an MC that promises to compress all of the emotion and racy smut of a full length story into a quick and action packed, dirty read (I may have paraphrased a little here, but you get the gist).

What an excellent idea.

What is also unusual is that the badass MC member with a military past is a female and her beau a federal agent who operates in the shadows of the law. He is also an Italian hottie with an improbably large service weapon who falls hard and fast for his feisty yet tormented mark.

He also has quite the filthiest mouth I've read in a while and the smut is of the exceptionally dirty variety, so that was me happy.

As a short read this totally delivers on its fast and dirty promise; somehow, in spite of the crazy-fast insta-love, this works. It's not one to read if you're hoping to lose yourself in a long, emotion packed tale as the insta love is the fastest and borderline creepiest I've ever read (literally he falls for a picture of her then spends a week peeping through her windows and jacking off :-/ ), but if you don't take this too seriously and you're looking for quick and dirty with a filthy mouthed alpha badass and a strong female, this is definitely worth a read.

At first I did not like the heroine. I do not like women who try to act like men or "one of guys" in romance or women who sleep around. And I felt that was how she was presented, especially early on. Sorry if that is sexist but it is my preference. After they got together, she chilled out a bit so she did not bother me as much.

I liked the hero. How he was so proud to be with her. No matter that they made fun of him. But fundamentally I do not want a hero willing to ride bitch on a bike. More beta than alpha.

This was not bad. It was short and safe. Crazy Insta love. But I needed something more or else more traditional mf characters.

So.
Yup.
2 stars.
Why?

I don't know, I just did not like it at all. Her sleeping around to get the edge off the adrenaline. Him stalking her, doing dirty business on her house and her not even blinking twice. No epilogue. Maybe it was just a version I got but I think if this was rewritten and fixed in a few places, it would be much much better.

Oh well... I still love you Alexa Riley.

2.5 stars rounded down to 2 stars!

I think I've become numb. I've read waaay too much AR at this point.

I need an intervention.

So. This book. It's AR's version of a motorcycle club (MC) book - but "safe" (meaning no cheating, rape, abuse, and an HEA). For those who don't read MC books, imagine the TV show Sons of Anarchy...now add "romance." The quote marks are there because most MC books are romantic travesties (in my opinion). They are normally filled with hatred (self hatred, hatred of others, etc), violence towards women, rape, cheating, and numerous other atrocities. Obviously from my description, I don't read them.

Pulling Her Trigger stars Mackenzie, a female sharpshooter (former Military) and Vincent - FBI agent who is also investigating Mackenzie (Mac). Mac is the only female member of the Ghost Riders Motorcycle Club. The Ghost Riders are mostly legit but there are some issues thus the FBI investigation.

Why did I say I needed an intervention above? Because this one was a bit...skeevy. AR does insta-love so hardcore it might as well be "fated mates" so I'm a little numb to the overwhelmingly over the top-ness of AR's heroes. But this one was eeewwww. Vincent hangs outside Mac's house and jerks off while watching her through her bedroom window. FOR A WEEK. He literally stands outside her house and ejaculates on her walls for a WEEK before they were even introduced. That is so gross. And disgusting. And gross. And eeeeewwwwwww!!

I read the whole book but I was grossed out by Vincent and never got over it.

My thoughts: Alexa Riley’s book are my crack. She writes the type of H that I love to read about. A possessive ottalpha that will shoot a person for just looking at his woman. He is a stalker but he needs her to breath so who cares. A dirty mouth with even dirtier fantasies, a will of iron and a need for control. The kind of man that makes you want to slap him, kiss him and bend over at the same time.

Only Barney can say it the way I need.

I really enjoyed this book.. from the beginning this stars good.
Mackenzie and Vincent.... are meant for each other. I absolutely love how freaking alpha male Vincent was. The way he claimed, loved, and fucked those are some good ass qualities. their banter is hot and funny. Cas is used to having control but after meeting Vincent that goes out the window. I would totally let Vincent do anything he wants. damn hot Italians bastards.. ugh. I'm being hot mess here. READ THIS BOOK.

Pulling Her Trigger by Alexa Riley is a steamy erotic novella, with a hot FBI agent and a hard as nails biker chick that stands alone in The Ghost Rider series, and I was quickly drawn into their world, where their meetings are HOT and sexy, instalove is alive and well, and they struggle (just a little because it is a novella) to come to a meeting of the minds, and I want more.

Alexa Riley can write some good steamy smut with a side of an Alpha male and make the story work. If you are having a serious book hangover, read one of Alexa Riley's novellas, it will take you out of your book funk in a flash. Her books aren't for the faint of heart, so if you're a prudish person and can't deal with the Alpha and the hot sex scenes, then keep it moving. If you're down to read, make sure it's in the comfort of your own home with a) your favorite alcoholic drink and b) you favorite sex toy, just saying!

I love me a badass, sexy and confident heroine and I got all three in Mackenzie. She's part of an MC crew which is significant because you do not see a lot of women part of an MC. Her "brothers" respect her as an equal. She's their very own sniper. How bad ass is that! Throw in am extremely sexy Alpha FBI agent and we're going to get a fun ride. Vincent Cassano, has had a hard-on for Alexa, he's going to claim her. And boy does he ever. I loved how the story flowed and how Vincent would do anything and I mean anything in his power to protect Mackenzie. The chemistry and love was all there.

I can't wait to read more of Alexa's hot steamy books and so should you.

Sometimes I just need to read something short and sexy, zero angst and with an HEA. Alexa Riley delivers on this every time!

This time the setting is at an MC and the main character, a sworn member of the club is a chick - which I loved! Mac is ex-military and very handy on the end of sniper rifle, however there are some things from her past that seem to be catching up with her.

And the person who knows all about that is Vincent, the guy she just hooked up with in a bathroom at a bar. FBI agent, Vincent. Seriously, this is like inviting danger right to her door, however he is only interested in her rockin' body, and her heart.

From the outside this looks like a bad idea right but desire seems to be winning out this time!

Completely ridiculous, but it has hot sex, so that's a bonus. There's insta-love, but this book takes the biscuit! Lol! And an odd bit of stalking also, with our H masturbating outside the h's house daily as she undresses.

I'd love this author to slow down and take her time with a full length novel. She does have the ability to write well, but doesn't give her books enough time to build characters, plot and chemistry properly. There's no point pumping out loads of books if they're all just average. Quality over quantity.

I tried...sooo hard, seriously I tried but I just can't read further... I dislike the heroine. I don't even remember her name anymore... the hero was at least indifferent. I couldn't care less about their story.
It's a pity because I would have loved to read a book with a b@d@$$ heroine, who is member of a Motorcycle Club.

Sometimes, just sometimes I just want to get away from it all and read something romance, smutty and not have to use my brain at all and just.....read....and read.

I found just that book in this. I haven't read a book by this author before so I can't compare to her others, but I can say this, its a short story with a lot of action.

The romance bit in it happened fast, too fast and just not sensible at all, but you know what? This fitted my mood today, sometimes spot on, sometimes unrealistic and sometimes I was gob smacked, but I still read it until the end, it was great have a FEMALE at the lead of it all.

If you are looking for a read hot sexy read with an Italian stud, look not further.

Alexa Riley is now my go to author for quick, dirty, dark stories.
This woman knows how to write smut...and i mean that in the absolute best way possible!!!

This story is slightly different from others i have read by her. It's the first of a series of novella's about a tough as nails MC. Now, anyone who knows me knows that i am a sucker for a good MC story, so count me in! Add in a female lead that is both strong and not afraid to be feminine and a smoking hot guy with an especially impressive....weapon...and you have the makings of an awesome, quick dirty read.

Alexa Riley has a devoted book slave in yours truly.

Hands down this book and the book connected to this one their book (pulling his trigger) are books I disliked in this series.. I wont review that book.

I dislike this type of alpha female.. when she tries to be more alpha then the alpha male H and just sucks so bad.. I'm sorry.  Qlso her trying to act more like a male was what made me go naw.. beside that I also laughed at Vince.. he was also over the top.. like stalker to the T.. I just didnt enjoy it..

No ow/om drama, no cheating, slight secondary charas, sexy times, no virgins (or manwhores)

Recommend- ehhh naw

This is probably more like a 3.5 than a 4 star.

My biggest issue was it ended kind of abruptly and it never really explained how their relationship was going to work long term. Maybe there is more about them in future books? I've not read any in the series besides this one. At the end of the book she's still in a MC that is doing illegal stuff and he's still in the FBI and was actively investigating her for his job. At best it's a HFN ending, but not even for long. Not sure how that's going to work out.

*Edit - just realized this same couple is in book 4, so I will allow a happy for now then lol*

Female MC Member

I really liked this book. It was different to read about a patched female member (Mackenzie/Casper) of a motorcycle club. I also liked Vincent. The fact that his girl was a badness didn't in anyway detract from him being an alpha male. I also kinda liked that he was a creeper and did the unmentionable outside her house while watching her through the window. This made him seem more real, because let's face it a regular guy would probably do this.

The only downside is that it needs to be longer!!! I can't wait to read the next book!
