Being a grim reaper isn’t easy, but answering to family is even worse.
Between argumentative souls, overbearing older brothers and everyday nonsense, Aisling Grimlock has her hands full.
When a run-of-the-mill job goes awry, Aisling finds herself in a mess. The soul she was supposed to collect is still amongst the living, and the man who wanted to kill him is dead instead.
Detective Griffin Taylor is returning from an undercover assignment, and the first thing he wants to do is reconnect with Aisling. Her brother Aidan is giving him fits, though, and the rest of the family isn’t making things much easier.
When wraiths start showing up again, and a member of the Grimlock family is seriously hurt, it’s all hands on deck for the final showdown. Unfortunately for the Grimlocks, they can never do anything the normal way.
Aisling is chafing under worry and pressure, and her family is circling the wagons. It’s going to take everyone working together to survive – and when the final fight is finally waged, a huge secret is revealed that will change the Grimlocks’ world forever.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
4.5 Stars... A fun, light, laugh out loud read that takes us into the heart of the Grimlock family... Having four older brothers is a case for survival of the fittest for Aisling Grimlock; add in an overprotective boyfriend and the sass and wit become a necessary weapon... Between battling deadly wraiths, a childhood nemesis, and a creepy conman Aisling certainly has her hands full, but when the hidden enemy pulling all the strings is revealed Aisling's world is shattered... Being in the mix of this crazy family was simply enjoyable from start to finish... I am looking forward to continuing the series and seeing how the storyline unfolds:)
Another fun read for me. I just love the craziness of all the characters. The snarks and sarcasms are the key factors that make the story so entertaining. No dull moments with the Grimlocks. On the other hand, the cliffhanger has left me in awe and with a question of why. Darn! I will definitely have a book hangover after this.
Here is an excerpt of Angelina's and Aisling's conversation that has made me laughed out loud while reading at work:
Angelina: "I'm going to kill you." Angelina seethed, rubbing her cheek. "I'm going to have a bruise tomorrow. How am I going to explain that?"
Aisling: "Tell people you read Fifty Shades of Grey and wanted to explore your inner whore." Aisling suggested, "Trust me, they'll believe you."
Aisling and her boyfriend are back together. Although, they actually haven't had the "talk" yet, but she is hopeful for the most part. But when they find out Wraiths are back in the picture, and one of her brothers gets really hurt things get even more complicated.
In the second book of the series, Aisling is trying to figure out what is going on, and now she's having issues with her twin, her other brother has been hurt, and she wants her boyfriend to be her boyfriend. It was filled with some crazy stunts, and hilarious issues as well.
I thought this book was really good, and I loved Aisling and Griffin together. I also enjoyed Griffin's sister coming into play, and I can't wait to read more now. This is a very addictive series, and I love it!
Want a fun romantic read? Grim Offerings, sequel to Grim Tidings is witty, funny & wonderful. I highly recommend it!
"It just kept looking at Cillian and saying 'mine.' I was waiting for it to call him 'my precious' and jump into the fiery pits of Mount Doom while cuddling him close to his chest."
Yup! A sampling of what you'll get from Aisling Grimlock and the Grimlock boys. Oh and let's not forget about Jerry too. Loved the snarky remarks & sarcasm! My kind of read! Amanda you've done it again!
The Grimlocks have already stolen a special place in the my reading favourites and this series seems to carry on with the story line more than the Midwest Witches Mystery books, as the wraiths make another appearance and it appears that all is a lot more complicated in Aisling's life than she previously thought. Once she clears up a few personal problems (and hilariously gets to deal with the her arch nemesis Angelina again) it appears that someone might be targeting her personally and the family, Jerry and griffin all rally round. Ultimately though, however much trouble Aisling seems to find, she always manages to find a way through it herself. With a large show down and some difficult decision, Aisling learns almost too much information to take on and I can't wait to see what the next book brings.
Grim Offerings is Book 2 in the Aisling Grimlock Series and I am really enjoying this series of the Grimlock Reper family.
The wraiths make another appearance and it seems more of a target and a major plot twist in Aisling's life.
The book is well written with the characters making me laugh out loud. The only thing I don't like is a cliffhanger! I don't take a star off for it because I know I love the series and will continue with it. I just prefer each book stand alone.
Point off for cliffhanger. It would have upset me more, but I read the Moonstone Bay series first and they refer back to Aisling’s past - so I know what’s going to happen. I’m happy I did Moonstone Bay first as I prefer that introduction to these characters.
Aisling doesn't have a lick of self-preservation. Her childish antics went above and beyond in this book. The family dynamic drew me in initially but the silliness got to be ridiculous. I won't be finishing the series even though it's free.
5 STARS for Book 2 in the series: Aisling Grimlock which is exciting and well written plus provides a great BLURB. The Grimlock family are paranormal & are known by most by the slang term reapers. However, they are different than most people think and their purpose to collect souls is decidedly away from current beliefs.
Further they are not dead, extremely tall & ugly & go around with a sickle. It sounds like false advertisement to throw the masses off the track & what the real truth is. That is what the paranormals do so they can exist in harmony with humans.
I love the fast paced action packed drama that once I started page 1 I couldn't stop flipping pages until I started coloring the above stars. Great interesting characters that interact daily as a family. Friends & lovers get pulled into that loving but kooky family dynamics that share their caring & love with the other people in their family member lives. What a marvelous thing.
An exciting jolt of experience. One heck of an exillirating ride likened to the thrill of white water rafting in Olympic course runs thrilling the riders as they zoom down the river with splashes of very cold water spraying up on their faces bobbing up and down as the current takes them dodging the huge river rocks as they go past. Yes and before the reader knows it a book in this series is complete leaving you with a new mysterious drama to find the answers to in the next book of the series.
I read the first three books of this series together in a collection. The series is on Kindle Unlimited. It's a paranormal mystery/romance/urban fantasy with tons of snarky banter among the 8 main characters, 6 of which make up a family. (50+ yr old dad, 4 brothers and 1 sister, all 20-somethings - mom died 10 years ago) plus the sister's long-time best friend since kindergarten (who might as well be family) plus her new boyfriend. The family all work as grim reapers, transporting souls to the afterlife. They are all human with a bit of extra supernatural-ness that allows them to see and interact with the souls of the departed. The bad guys are wraiths (like the guards of Azkaban - they eat souls) and ghouls (witches that prolong their life by eating souls.)
Overall, the series is very funny because of the boisterous interactions among the siblings.
In the first book, there are extra wraiths in town, and a bad ghoul controlling them.
Second book shouldn't have so many wraiths, but there are still a ton around. Turns out there's another plot afoot.
Third book reveals a family enemy, a great big lie about the mom, and yet more wraiths in the picture, plus some gargoyles.
As the series progresses, little things about why the sister is being targeted by so many groups are slowly revealed.
Sorry Amanda, the snark in this one just totally got out of hand. It has happened occasionally in your other books that a character has gotten so snarky it was difficult to read, but this time it was EVERYONE.
Seriously, when everyone is sitting in a room to figure out how to stay alive after a vicious attack they should be able to put aside the snark long enough to form a plan. And how does Aisling not get killed? She shows not a whit of self-preservation. Runs into any bad situation when the cavalry is on it's way, just WAY too out there for me. Sorry, I love the witches of the midwest, but your love of the snarky reply is limited to a few characters, here you have let it run too loose.
Pick on me, that's okay but pick on one of my brothers is totally unacceptable and heads will roll.
Absolutely fantastic series. The sarcasm and snark are just up my street and when they are wrapped up in zany characters with a great storyline there is nothing missing. Although the witch is dead the wraiths are still he'll bent of getting her. Her brothers and father have got their protective faces on and she just wants to make it by herself.her romance seems to have also hit a roadblock. Will she get everything sorted before she is hurt. When one of her brothers is attacked there is nowhere on earth that the culprit can hide from her. Fast zany journey with characters that make you chuckle are on offer her. A brilliant series.
The banter between the family and friends started out fairly endearing, kinda like the chaos of the Weasleys. At first it's funny, but then it's just exhausting. Nothing really happens in the book. Our main girl is annoyingly over the top, and there's just pages and pages of needless stupid banter. You did the thing No you did the thing Well I never do the thing Your face does the thing Yea well you're stinky You were stinky first Pages of it. You can skip a few and they'll still be going at it. Minus like the three times you see a wraith show up and the two times she gets a soul, there's nothing supernatural about it. It's basically a sitcom where the actors spend 200 some odd pages trying to talk over each other.
I really like the story line but it gets interrupted much too often by the constant snark and sass of Aisling. When I think about Aisling, I don’t think of a 25 year old woman, I think of my four year old daughter who hasn’t gotten her way. The main character is my least favorite character of these books.
The bicker and banter were funny and a bit endearing in the beginning but book two took it 20 steps too far. Every time the story seemed to finally take shape, here was Aisling with some smart alec comment and acting like a toddler. Dont get me wrong, I love witty banter and a good back and forth but when it’s every single conversation, it is exhausting.
The sarcasm, the snark, the sass. It was overdone. Too much imo.
Aisling is back to reaping souls after having to deal with the wraiths and the witch controlling them before. Only, it appears the wraiths are not all gone! With her quirky family helping, or not, she needs to figure out what’s going on, fast. This book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. It’s not world ending, the story in the book is completed, but it does set it all up for the next book(s). It’s a funny book, Aisling’s family are characters, and so is her best friend. Perhaps her boyfriend is the only normal one in the bunch! For fans of mysteries with a magical bent!
Aisling and Aidan are having trouble collecting a soul because he won't die.
What I enjoyed: * Totally shocked by the end * Family interactions are still fun to observe as they are all insane * Maya calling out the family on their issues
What could have been better: * Aisling acting like a child is getting a bit old. She definitely hit TSTL (it was even called out by her brother). * The rivalry with Angelina is over the top *
After finishing Amanda M Lee's Witches of the Midwest series, I decided to start the Grimlock series. It's as good as the witches, however, it's very similar... I might say a bit predictable. The love relationship between Aisling and Griffin parallels that of Bay and Landon a bit too closely, in my opinion. On another note, I know it's coming, but I may lose my mind if I read about Aisling's Converse again. We get it, she likes cool kicks... move on. I've started book 3, and am sure that I will continue the series. I do enjoy the fun and easy reading and snarky humor of Amanda's books.
…after you’ve begun this series. It will draw you in until the very last one. And then you’ll have to read or reread the many other series to see how and where they meet and interact. I really liked…well, everything. Amanda M. Lee is my kind of writer. And even though I sometimes also want to shake the “littlest Grimlock” she is a bundle of heart and snarky fun. Enjoy. There are wonderful hints being dropped, and it’s fun to try to figure things out.Enjoy.
I love grim reapers, especially whole families. Can't imagine having four brothers with dad in charge...poor Aisling! The odds are definitely against her since they all spoil her and try to protect her. Her new boyfriend is pretty nice, but he just joins her family and her roommate, Jerry, trying to keep her safe. You'll enjoy this series too!
I do enjoy the banter between family but at the same time it sort of became slightly repetitive. I figurd the first book focused on it since we were learning about the family but it's was still the focus this book. I still love the banter but I feel like the book sometimes loses its focus on the plot since it progresses at a snails pace. I usually don't mind a slow moving story but there has to be some progression in the middle. Still a very fun book though
The LOL snarky fun of the Grimlocks continues. Just when I thought that nothing could surprise me from this family, someone says or does something that breaks me into raucous laughter.
This book does snark and suspense in a fun and enjoyable read. I have already downloaded the next book in the series!
This author never ceases to amaze me with what she writes! This was a great addition to the Grimlock series. Lots of character development in this one and we get to meet a few new faces. One thing I will say is this book is a little darker than the previous one. Still loved it and I can't wait to start the next one!
“Seriously, what are you doing with your hand?” Griffin’s face was blank. “What?” “Your hand,” Dad said, pointing. “Where does it keep going?”
The story continues in the next installment. Aisling is still a reaper and dating the handsy cop. The father and brothers still around everyone is still bickering; my favorite part of the book. Their banter is so funny. I enjoyed the book very much, it never got too serious or silly. the misadventures added to its charm. The book is "clean" all sex is off the page, we get teased about it but then fade to black.
2023 bk 103. As much fun as the first, but not to be read without the first in the series. It is the interaction between the siblings that keep this series going, that and seeing the growing relationship between Aisling and Griffin. A pet peeve is that this is another series that ends in a cliff-hanger to keep you coming back for more. If it is good, it doesn't need a cliffhanger.
Aisling is at it again when she goes to pick up a soul and it turns out he is still alive. Whats up with that? What should she do not, then other strange things start to happen as well as griffen being away on a undercover job and not calling. This one has twists and turns that will keep you reading to the end.
wow.. The hits keeping coming.. Asling, Adian...Her Father .. Everyone has to learn how to be leas protective and deal .. but not this family . Hilarity ensues.. Everyone should be so lucky to have a family like this
The things that made the first book fun like the overbearing family are growing to be terribly annoying. I'm also not thrilled with the equally overprotective love interest. It's all just so stifling.
A book that will have you laughing out loud and smiling like a maniac the whole time. I am very glad that I stumbled to this series. I can even begin to find the words to explain how great this book is. The word play between the characters makes you fall right in.
