Hawaiian born Karma Aneko, high-end divorce attorney, is pulled from the ocean just before drowning. Officer Joe Porter is on his third transfer since an undercover drug bust nearly killed him. A hero even when off-duty, Joe fishes the woman from the angry waves, knowing he’s caught trouble as soon as she spews salt water all over him. She never planned on being so close to the sea again, but Joe challenges her to take another look at her tormented childhood from within the safe circle of his arms. She is strong enough to accept his past while seeing the man he’s become. Their undeniable attraction overcomes logic, daring them to believe in love at first touch.
From cozy mysteries to seaside romance, USA Today bestselling author Traci Hall writes stories that captivate her readers. As a hybrid author with over sixty published works, Ms. Hall has a favorite tale for everyone.
Mystery lovers, check out her Scottish Shire series, set in the seaside town of Nairn, or the Salem B&B Mystery series, co-written as Traci Wilton. Her latest project is an Irish Castle cozy as Ellie Brannigan. Whether it's her ever-popular By the Sea romances, an Appletree Cove sweet romance, or a fun who-done-it, Traci finds her inspiration in sunny South Florida, living right near the ocean.
K/Karma Aneko, grew up in Hawaii in an environment that left her jaded, running away from the ocean, and a woman who does not believe in letting anyone “in”. Now a divorce attorney, she’s arrived in Ft Lauderdale, to collect a check from her first client. What she finds is a woman whos’s attempting suicide. When she walks to the ocean , mad at the world and “karma”, she almost drowns , but is rescued by a man that would change forever her outlook in live . The plot is engaging and the characters complex. Underlying the story is the reminder that our experiences in life, whether as a child, or as an adult, will mold and affect who you are. Some will create a shield to protect themselves, others will look for justice, hoping not to lose themselves in the process. Another well written and thought provoking story by this talented author. I was entrusted a copy of this book.
K (Karma) is an attorney who travels to Florida, to meet with her client in a divorce case, and receive payment for services. When she gets to her destination she finds her client, Rita, has attempted suicide and ends up in the hospital. Stranded she agrees to take care of Rita's pets for the week. Later K almost drowns but is rescued by Joe. K never quite get over the death of her soulmate Paolo and is jaded by her parents marriage. Can she find love with Joe. Well written and sweet romance. I just love this series. * I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a perfect summer/vacation read though it took a couple of chapters to allow Karma ("K") to grow on me. Once I was pulled in, I kept reading straight through. The touches of magic add to the overall story line in ways I found both enjoyable and meaningful.
I received a copy of this book for an honest review.
This is a really sweet love story. Both K and Joe have demons to overcome, but when Joe saves K from a riptide. They just might find that together they can overcome anything. Sweet, afternoon read; which would be great by the ocean. :-)
I loved this book, Joe and Karma have chemistry. Joe is a Police Officer and Karma is a lawyer. We see sparks fly, bullets fly. This is just a great book. A truly wonderful read.
Karma is a high end attorney, here to deliver the divorce papers and get the check.and head back out. Wrong the woman had taken pills, and she had to call 911,no check. Seeing the ocean, would be good way to get rid of her frustration, then it overwhelmed her and a guy pulls her out. The client will be okay, stay in her condo, The plot of two people who have a past, that seemed to keep them from being happy and doing what they wanted to do. Interesting for an easy read.
I received an ARC of 'Karma by the Sea' by Traci Hall in a giveaway.... It was pretty good... I know it was an ARC but the editing still needed some work so it was a bit distracting... But I enjoyed it.. there was a lot of details in the plot to keep me reading to the end which is the definition of a good read! I will be looking for more from this author.
No knowing what she was feeling and not wanting to admit it. K had to find out was important in life. All was love war and danger, yet she over came her past and forged a future with a wonderful man. This book was well written and I would recommend this series to anyone who thinks that love can't come their way
After reading Traci Hall's highland mysteries, I was curious about how she started as a writer. Ambrosia by the Sea, her first book, ended very abruptly but had good characters. Karma by the Sea, her second book, was an enormous improvement and the characters had a lot of depth and I found the story truly compelling.
Traci Hall is a new author to me. I enjoyed this story very much. I especially liked the way that Karma slowly changed her ideas and feelings about the sea when she was interacting with Joe. Karma was a divorce attorney who did not believe in love and marriage because of the way she grew up with rather kooky parents. Plus her father cheated on her mother, but her mother would not leave him. Karma goes to Florida from Chicago to give her wealthy client the divorce papers and finds the client passed out on an overdose of pills and booze. She phones for an ambulance and gives CPR until the paramedics arrive. Then she goes out to the ocean, starts screaming at the Hawaiian sea goddess and gets caught in a riptide. Joe saves her from drowning and then tries to convince her that love and marriage can be good. Joe was an undercover cop and his life is in danger from the relatives of the drug lord that he helped bring down. When he is almost killed, Karma realizes that she has very strong feelings for him; that she loves him and that things can work out between them. I also enjoyed the comments about the Hawaiian gods and goddesses. The interaction between the characters was good and strong. I received this free as an ARC for an honest review.
I was given this book by the author for an honest review.
Where to start with this book. I liked Joe and Karma. The author did a good job in making their romance believable. That was the saving grace of this story for me.
So why only 2.5 stars? There are a lot of editing issues in this story...missing words, wrong tenses, wrong words. I also found a few plot holes/inconsistencies. Not with the main romance, but with one of the subplots. It completely pulled me out of the story as my brain was going back and rehashing what I'd read previously and how it didn't fit with what was now being said.
This story also dealt a lot with gods and goddesses since Karma is half native Hawaiian. It was a key part of Karma's personality and the story would have been very different without it.
I would recommend this book to those who don't mind editing issues and are looking for a different type of romance.
I had the opportunity to receive an ARC of Karma by the Sea by Traci Hall in exchange for an honest review.
In this book we had the opportunity to revisit Celia and Dax from Ambrosia by the Sea.
Karma is a divorce attorney and she gets her client Rita a huge settlement. Karma agrees to visit her, drop of the papers, have a glass of wine, pick up a check and then head back to Chicago. Her plans are put on hold, because Rita takes too many pills with too much alcohol. She does not overdose because Karma gets there in time.
Karma meets this police officer who is investigating Rita's overdose. Joe and Karma both have "issues from their past" that they need to resolve. Will they be able to resolve them and find a happy forever after. I would recommend that you read the book and see for yourself.
Hawaiian born Karma Aneko is a high -priced divorce Attorney she almost drowns and is pulled from the ocean by Officer Joe Porter who was almost killed when a drug bust went wrong he is on his third job transfer. Joe encourages her to face her tormented childhood from the safety of his comforting arms. She is strong enough to accept his past and to see the man he has become. A wonderful sweet love story. Beautifully written a great beach read.

There are stormy waters between them as Hawaiian born Karma, a divorce attorney, and undercover cop, Joe, meet for the first time. Literally. Joe saves Karma from drowning. A mixture of suspense, humor, and romance follow these two likable characters on their journey as they learn to deal with each other and unresolved issues from their past.
A sexy divorce lawyer and a former undercover cop make an unlikely couple, but karma and fate have chosen them for each other. She's fighting it all the way, but he's 100% onboard. There's comedy, drama, murder attempts, and coming to terms with their pasts.
My first book by Traci Hall I received the book in exchange for a honest review. This book is the story of Karma et Joe. Joe is a cop et Karma or K as she goes by is a attorney with some issues in her past. As does Joe. It has enough suspense et drama to keep you reading . I read it in a day et loved it. Its a definite recommend to all who love books et a HEA
This was a sweet, well-written book. Karma was raised by free spirits and, craving structure, she became an attorney. Off duty officer Joe rescues Karma from drowning in the ocean. Their strong attraction draws them to spend more time together, and see if they can overcome the obstacles and believe in love at first sight. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by the author.
A perfect romance to read at the beach. This book moves along very quickly. Loved all the action in it from intimate times together, to watching a sunrise on the beach, to being shot at.
“I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.”
This is a sweet little love story, and an enjoyable way to spend an hour or two. Karma and Joe are both likable characters and I was rooting for them to get together. They both have problems from their past to work through, but I enjoyed their growing love for each other.
