"Fate," Dorian Coralis had said. Juliet dwelt on this, instinctively recalling those days when he had so despised her. She wondered how he would react if she told him that she was the girl he had met at her aunt and uncle's home.
"I'll marry you, Dorian," Juliet whispered, triumph soaring within her. Revenge! The word was all around her. She would bring this man to the dust!
Anne Hampson was born on 28 November 1928 in England. At age six she had two ambitions: to teach and to write. Poverty after WWI deprived her of an education and at 14 she was making Marks & Spencer's blouses at one shilling (5p) each.
She retired when she married. Later, when her marriage broke up, she was homeless with £40 in her purse. She went back to the rag trade and lived in a tiny caravan. But she never forgot her two ambitions, and when Manchester University decided to trial older women she applied, and three years later had achieved one ambition, so set her thoughts on number two.
In 1969, her first novel, Eternal Summer, was accepted five days from posting and she soon had a contract for 12 more. From the caravan she went to a small stately home, drove a Mercedes and sailed on the QE2. From the first book, came over 125 more written for Mills & Boon, Harlequin and Silhouette. Alan Boon (the Boon of Mills & Boon) and she came up with the title for 'Harlequin Presents' over lunch at the Ritz. She suggested to Alan that they have a historical series. He told her to write one - it was done in a month, entitled Eleanor and the Marquis under the pseudonym Jane Wilby. She has the distinction of being number one in Harlequin Presents, Masquerade and Silhouette. Many of "Presents" have been reprinted many times (some as many as 16) and are now fetching up to $55, being classed as "rare" books.
She has had 3 awards, one at the World Trade Centre where she received a standing ovation from her American fans, who had come from many states just to meet her.
She was retired, but in 2005 she wrote two romance and crime novels, both of which were published by Severn House.
She passed away on 25 September 2014. She has been written her autobiography, entitled Fate Was My Friend.
Oh boy, this was fun. A better title: Revenge of Cinderella.
Our heroine is the downtrodden, plain orphan who has lived under the thumb of her awful aunt and uncle and beautiful cousin for years. They work her to the bone, don't give her any money and call her a different name than the one her parents gave her. She falls in love with the hero after seeing his photo. When her cousin tells her that the hero prefers brunettes, she dyes her golden hair brown. Greek hero drops into to resume his holiday affair with the cousin and Cinderella, overcome by love, asks him to walk in the woods with her. Apparently walking in the woods is a euphemism for illicit affair in Greece, because the hero kisses her and then promptly tells the aunt an uncle to keep an eye on their orphan.
In retribution, they cut off her pocket money and tell the whole village that the heroine is a tramp. No one will speak to her and things are worse at home. In desperation she runs away, steps under a bus, has plastic surgery, is befriended by a kindly couple, goes to secretarial school, inherits elderly couple's house and is now going by her original name. Life is good - she is beautiful, educated and no longer shy. The fly in the ointment is that the hero is still living and breathing and not miserable.
Then fate (and Anne Hampson's pen) lends a hand.
This had it all - a crazy plot with ridiculous coincidences. A heroine that burned with passionate love or hate. And a hero who understood that kind of passion and could return it in kind. These crazy kids are going to go the distance.
It ought to be called A Woman to be Feared as this is one kick ass heroine. She takes no prisoners.
The plot is Juliette/Emily, plain 16 year old orphan, is taken in by relatives and is turned into a Cinderella, rags and all. Her family is truly vile and over the top and deserve any and all retribution coming to them. They are so mean they won't call her by her real name but insist on calling her Emily, her middle name, as she is too plain to be a Juliette.
Dorian, Greek god personified, comes in. Guess who has a crush on him? She dyes her auburn hair dark as she hears he likes dark haired woman. Starved for any affection, she asks him to walk with her and kiss her in what is one of the most pitiful scenes I have read. He, of course, assumes she is a tramp and warns her family after kissing her. The family take it out on her and spread rumors in the village what a tramp she is so now EVERYBODY ostracizes her. She runs away, gets hit by a bus, and receives enough plastic surgery that she is now gorgeous. Just another year in a Harlequin heroine's life. Ho hum.
It really gets going when Juliette runs into Dorian again, and he falls head over heels. Of all the characters in this Angst Mc Angst, Dorian is the one she focuses on as the root of all her problems. Don't know if I agree with that as her cousin and aunt are pretty nasty pieces of work. Dorian, not being the marrying kind, promises all glory if Juliette will, wait for it, become his pillow friend. Ugh. I know gross. If I read...that phrase one more time I was going to maim. Please, just say MISTRESS, please!
Eventually he succumbs and her evil plan to take revenge on him unfolds. Sadly, her revenge plot is dis-railed for while. I am going to stop here, but suffice it to say some old friends show up and their is an epic confrontation that elevates this to sublime Harlequin drama. Can not be missed!!!! This is ranked number 8 on the Craziest Harlequin list which tells you something.
I dearly love the vengeful hero trope, so it's probably no surprise that the vengeful heroine doesn't do as much for me. This was entertaining, however. It had lots of fun tropes.
The heroine was absurdly downtrodden in the beginning after being taken in by snobby family members after her parents' deaths. They force her to do the mending, wear hand-me-downs, and clean up dog puke while spoiling her bratty cousin.
The hero inadvertently makes this worse when he comes to visit her family's home to screw around with her cousin. The heroine is not quite 17 and very sheltered and immediately fell in love with him when the cousin showed her his photo. He was the sexist old school Greek tycoon type who mistook the heroine's innocent interest for loose morals and warned her uncle to take her in hand. He probably thought it was the right thing to do in his own twisted black/white view of women. He didn't realize her uncle didn't give a crap about her and just used it as an excuse for the entire family to abuse her further.
She ran away not long after the hero's visit when her family began treating her even worse than usual and gossiping about her all over town. After running away she is hit by a bus and gets plastic surgery, going from plain Jane to showstopping beauty.
All those years she blamed the hero most of all for the accident and for shattering her illusions of love. Of course, when they meet up again and he doesn't recognize her and is obviously interested, she takes this as her opportunity for revenge. She was determined to marry him for revenge. Seemed overdone to me since her life was ultimately so much better after she ran away, but this is HPLandia. He, of course, is vengeful himself when she lies to him and tells him she married him for money in order to hurt him. There is a fade-to-black rape scene, so be warned. It is interesting to see a heroine who truly isn't all melty the any time the hero touches her. She really does hate him or is, at least, so angry/bitter that she isn't turned on by him.
An enjoyable read, but just a 'like' for me. It's not that the vengeful hero plots are any more rational, I just enjoy them more.
Let me just say...Woah! This was great! This little baby had so many twists and turns with angsty goodness that I'm going to be hard-pressed to find a decent follow up.
We start with a dowdy Cinderella, complete with scrubbing the floors and polishing the family's shoes, while she's given nothing but rags to wear. The family (aunt, uncle, cousin-without the h who was left at home) had gone off on vacation, where the evil cousin met the H, and he subsequently came to visit. Upon seeing a picture of him, she falls madly in love and tries to make herself noticable to him, which turns out to be a disaster. Due to actions on his part, the h's already horrible life becomes even more horrendous. Thus the need for Revenge!
After...her life changes. I can't give you details cause it just wouldn't be right, but she get's into a position where she's able to attract the H's attention and snag her prince (evil prince to her, mind you). Just as the synopsis tells us, there is some revenge involved...which made me sad, really. The second half of the book is full of moments where I was actually feeling so sorry for the H, and even the h for what she was tossing. But what do you think came of her plans? Well, the name of the book: A Man to be Feared! But I don't think he was all that fear provoking (maybe in the scenes we don't see), more like just made you want to smack him and put itching powder in his Hanes. He could've been like the H in Pagan Lover, now that guy was fearful.
There was some seriously rage-inducing OW scenarios that make you want to rip a telephone book in half. But while you hated it, you know she asked for it.
All the way through: anger...now rage!...here comes the angst...ah, satisfaction...back to angst...WTFery!!!!!!...more rage...even greater angst...misty eyes...back to ahhhhh, HEA. Lots of up and down with little lag.
And no hard limits, so in my opinion, it's safe for those who want an angsty/angry read but don't want a total trainwreck.

Oh my word........what a RIDE!!!!!!!! If you have missed this Anne Hampson special, you need to read it NOW.. But be forewarned there are moments when you will get so frustrated you will want to throw something!
This is a story about REVENGE...with a capital R....Both mete out their pound of flesh...and at 2AM, I was biting my nails.
Phew. Thank you to my friend, Julz04, for the recommend!
Nice and crazy as only an old school Hp can be. I don’t know why the title, maybe it’s because the hero is quite aggressive when provoked but I suppose any other man would in the same situation. His big misfortune is that he met the heroine and could not see her for what she was. An abused, lonely, strange, borderline teenager on the verge of explosion. She has a history of abuse that makes Cinderella looks like a princess. Her aunt and uncle took her when she was orphaned at 6, as a companion for their child. They never loved her and treated like an unpaid slave. They even changed her name. Her cousin of course grew up a spoiled but beautiful woman while she was plain and shy. When she met the hero she fell in love with him and decided she wanted him to fall in love with her and to marry her so she could leave that awful situation. The hero is a Greek rich playboy who came to her village to have some fun with her cousin, not having the least intention to marry her or keep her. He’s 10 years older than the heroine and she’s only 16. By that time she’s severely abused and mistreated, and she’s not very far from becoming psychotic. She decides to seduce the hero and takes him into the wood and asks him to kiss her. He isn’t interested in her, first because she’s plain and second because she’s a child so he kisses her but then scolds her and goes to her aunt and uncle to report her behavior. He didn’t know of course her real situation and thought that she was a slut and maybe was trying to help her. Sadly her relatives make her life impossible and tell everyone in their village that their niece is a slut. Btw their daughter is screwing the Greek every day in their house. Lol. The heroine leaves and has an accident where she’s disfigured and has to endure several plastic surgeries. At the end she becomes a very beautiful and successful woman, who holds a gigantic grudge against the hero and plans her revenge. Why she didn’t hold the same grudge against her relatives I don’t know. Many years later she meets the hero again and she’s so happy that she can eventually make him pay. She plans to marry him and make his life impossible and believe me, she does. She marries him and he is besotted with her even if she’s cold. She denies him sex and he accepts until eventually he asks for explanation. She tells him she married him for money and he tells her since he bought her she’s now his possession aaannnndddd he rapes her. Yes, we don’t know if it was forced seduction or not, only that the heroine has to endure his attentions and to live basically as a prisoner in his yatch until she’s gets pregnant. Or maybe, fakes a pregnancy. Then they come back and guess who they meet? Her cousin and the aunt. Nobody was able to recognize the heroine since she’s so changed and that’s the funny thing since she has the same hair and the same eye color and of course the same voice. But this is Hp and all is possible. The hero tries to make her jealous flirting with the cousin but since this heroine is not a whimper she still hates the hero and only resents him because he humiliates her. No love or sweetness on her part for him. She’s a monolith. Eventually the truth comes out and the hero finds out she was unhappy and run away because she was in love with him and not a slut after all and he feels guilty and sad. So now the heroine can forgive him and he’s even happy that she wanted revenge because this means she didn’t marry him for money as he thought. He’s sorry and he loves her still. Evil cousin is expelled from their life at light speed and all is well. Most bizarre book I’ve read in some time. The characters are unpleasant but the result is very impactful and I could not put the book down.
As far as the revenge in this book goes, it was pretty lame. About the best thing was the blurb up there and the line in the book, "Revenge! The word spread in glaring capitals across her horizon; it filled the sky above her; it was all around her. She would bring this man to the dust!"
Ha, I couldn't help but love the fact she saw the word "REVENGE" as though it were skywriting.
All of the characters in this book were terrible. Dorian was not much of a fearsome man except that he incited a fearsome crush in Juliet-Emily. There's a huge setup at the beginning with regards to her name. Apparently, her parents called her Juliet but her aunt and uncle refused to call her that because she was so plain. They, obviously, are extremely low human beings, casting Juliet-Emily into the role of a Cinderella, except even more pitiful, because Juliet-Emily didn't have a cast of cheerful rodents to sing her songs.
Juliet-Emily was exceedingly pitiful, being ugly, despised, and made to work like a dog. And I suppose the worst part of it all was that Juliet-Emily had a pretty ugly personality as well. Not for her this plain but sweet-tempered lass. Juliet-Emily was seething with ambitions and feelings and dreams. One dream of which featured Dorian Coralis, who met and kissy-faced her cousin, Tanya, abroad. Tanya, bringing home a photograph of Dorian, induced Juliet-Emily to teeming girlish fantasies. Even though Dorian was clearly Tanya's man when he arrives in their sleepy village, Juliet-Emily sees nothing up with dying her hair dark to entice him, and when that doesn't work, invites him for a walk in the forest so that he can ahem-ahem his way with her. Well, he kisses her obligingly, of course, but because of her exceedingly forward ways, skewers her character to her malicious adopted family. They, in turn, make her miserable life so terrible she takes to the road that night, harboring forevermore a fearsome hatred of Dorian.
She is so miserable and has such a pitiful life that she soon steps under a bus, which turns out to be the best thing that happens to her. She then undergoes a series of plastic surgery and emerges a butterfly that is desired by all men. She is adopted by a kindly couple who obligingly leaves her their cottage when they pass away.
Soon enough, Dorian Coralis, her most hated enemy returns to her life, and soon, Juliet-Emily conceives of a brilliant plan for revenge upon him. This revenge goes like so: Find a way to leg-shackle this exceedingly elusive and rich bachelor, do not let him consummate the marriage, and inform him thusly that she married him for his money.
Yes, yawn. What a terrifically lame plan of revenge. Might I suggest she contact Sally Wentworth for better revenge plots? That is to say, in addition to having no attractive genes, no great personality, Juliet-Emily is also cursed with blindingly low intellect as well.
Naturally this revenge plot goes sadly awry when after only about a week of feigning shyness, he's had enough and she had to reveal her marrying him for money, upon which he ravishes her on his boat.
I think the only thing that was lamer in this book was when it is revealed who she is, and her cousin Tanya unwittingly reveals that Juliet-Emily had fallen in love with Dorian's photograph.
"She fell in love with my snapshot...?" He spoke softly, as if to himself. "I didn't know. I thought-- You didn't mention that she had fallen in love with me when I was condemning her! This makes a great deal of difference. I grossly misjudged that girl. And if there's anything I pride myself on, it's being fair and just!"
AMAZING ride full of heartbreak, intense angsty and cold-blooded revenge!
I have never before read any book by this author, and i must say,her writing style is different to those i am used to,but she has the electric element of passion and beauty,of the way she describes intense scenes and presents exotic nature of Greece.
Juliet Hardy and Dorian Coralis are extraordinary characters i both loved.Juliet being strived by revenge and Dorian who falls on her trap and fall madly in love with her.My favourite part of this book is after their marriage...WHOOWW what an intense angsty-scenes they had! I LOVED IT!
Anne Hampson was a very misunderstood woman. For years she wrote seriocomic tragedies about sick, twisted relationships between men and omen a la Evelyn Waugh's The Loved One and A Handful of Dust; ironically, due to a misunderstanding when her first manuscript was submitted, her books were classified as romance instead, and during her extensive career she became one of the most popular category romance authors of her time.
All the while, though, Hampson's books emphasized the stupidity of lovers, the thread of toxic hate that was present in all love affairs, and above all, how people in love were driven by motivations that were counter to everything that was good and fine in the world.
This book is proof positive of this. Through their behavior, the H and h deserved no happiness; motivated by vengeance on one side and superficiality on the other, the protagonists deserved horrible fates, and in fact, they earned one: to spend the rest of their lives together.
Would Hampson be happy to see her insidious work lumped in with authors like Mary Burchell and Essie Summers, where readers seeking nostalgia and quaintness found themselves dealing with characters whose behavior was hauntingly stupid and vile? I contend she would. After all, "the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world she was a romance novelist."
Ok I really hated these characters as it was obviously a hate campaign from the start and of course the other woman he kept throwing up in her face. He basically tortures her for no real reason and she is just an easy target and continues to be his doormat until the end. No self respect and how exactly did she think she was going to get revenge when he always had the upper hand? I just did not get that part of the story. If you don't mind the verbal and physical abuse, read away. I would not recommend this book personally.

Crappy story, didn't enjoy it at all. Was excited about heroine's revenge plot, very interested in her extreme deep hatred (cos most heroines are emotionally mushy about the heroes), but really turned into a flop for me. She was just dogged down the entire time by everybody. Very depressing. And he slept with her cousin like right after they met, I hate when heroes just fall into bed with OW like nothing.
And also... so unconvincing that he'd fall in love with her. She showed him nothing nice about herself, and we're supposed to believe he fell in love with her acting like a bitter frosty B? He literally fell in love with her plastic face.
"A Man to be Feared", which should have been called "The Picture of Dorian Coralis", is the story of Dorian and Emily/Juliet. After Emily's parents die, she lives in servitude of her uncle and aunt, as well as her cousin Tanya, while they treat her like dirt demanding servitude for housing her. Her life finds a flicker of hope when Tanya's boyfriend Dorian visits, and Emily (who likes to be called Juliet), falls for his picture, and then him, never having experience "love" before. When a stroll on a beach, and a demand for a kiss angers Dorian against the innocent Emily, he complains to her guardians, who inflict torture, spoil her name in the village, and make life more of a living hell- forcing her to run away! She then meets with an accident, has plastic surgery, works for kind hearted people- and 8 years later- is a drop dead gorgeous, successful career woman, making an identity as Juliet- her heart filled with burning vengeance against Dorian. He then enters her life, wooes her, while she plans to persuade him to marry her in order to extract revenge! It was a fascinatingly silly story. Can't help feeling bad for Juliet in the first half, and we think she's going to get her due with Dorian..until she actually marries him *shakes head* He thinks he is in love with her, but when she confesses the reason as "money" (instead of the real reason, retribution), he decides to get even with pushing around, bruising kisses and throwing her, and (non/semi-consensual) lovemaking. Cherry on the top is the entry of Tanya and the evil bitch of the aunt in the last 1/4, Dorian spending time with the OW, and then taunting Juliet. I was angry by the lack of groveling by this chauvinistic pig of a hero, and the heroine suddenly forgiving him. A sorry doesn't do it. WHERE'S THE Payback?! I was rooting for you Juliet *shakes head angrily* SWE 2.5/5
Well hell! This was something new! Sometimes I found myself dying of laughter over how badly they treated each other. Our poor h starts the revenge taking first, but Jeez, did she really not know that giving our GREEK hero perpetual blue-balls wasn't the brightest idea ever?!
Then our H, boy was he mad! There were times I think he could have murdered her.
The one thing I didn't like was the abrupt ending. With about three pages left and the big revelation just being made, I was anxious and kept looking at my page number. I was worried I'd somehow not received a complete copy of the book. Even the author narrated that they still had so much left unresolved between them. That's the problem with the word-count of these HP's, and the vintage ones are on average about 5000k less than the new ones, to weave a story like this takes a few more pages. I felt there were some points in the storytelling that were too abrupt, sudden jumps from one scene to the next that were a bit disconcerting. But, seeing as this was my first Anne Hampson novel, maybe I'm missing that this was her normal writing style.
Also, 'pillow friend?' Really. I'm with you on this one Julz04.
Pretty good old HP with a revenge plot. This time the heroine is getting revenge on the hero. Of course it backfires and the hero, when he discovers what he thinks is going on, is pretty domineering and mean to her.
Kept my attention and kept me turning pages. There were places where you could really tell this was an oldie. For example once the hero says, Enough it is that I have got you here. Seriously??? Maybe Yoda talks like that but I'd think that even in 1976 hot Greek guys didn't.
DNF @ 50% - I love a good Cinderella tale, but damn did this one disappoint. The h is bent on REVENGE because the hero unwittingly made her sad life even worse when she was teen. Years later she’s no longer plain, thanks to an accident that required extensive plastic surgery…. Now she has a brand new beautiful face and an amazing life but STILL she’s hung on to a pretty extreme level of bitterness. The hero sees her again and of course doesn’t recognize her since she’s had a face transplant and instantly falls in love with her plastic surgery. She’s a cold bitter bitch to him so of course he insists they marry (🤷🏼♀️)… which was all part of her revenge plot… she plans to drive him insane through blue balls…. This is just oddly boring considering the plot… there’s no emotion here. She says stuff about revenge but I’m not feeling any of the angst. She seems like an unhinged psychopath but not in a fun way. I don’t like a heroine who intentionally hurts the hero… and I hate that the only reason he even looked at her is because she has a a new face. This is not satisfying.

One of the most unlikeable heroines I have read about. I found her wanting to get revenge against the hero unjustified. What he did hurt her eventually BUT eight year later she must have used her brain to understand that he just acted like any adult would have faced with a stupid teenager. Well... almost. Adults don’t kiss stupid teenagers but otherwise he didn’t do anything wrong.
I liked Temptation and Elusive Obsession much more. The heroines were more likeable and not total b* from start to end. We’re told here that Juliet likes children and animals. THATS IT! That’s the only nice thing you know about that woman cause a friend mentions it. Mainly the author trying to sell the heroine as a nice person. She’s not.
The hero was fun. He went over the top but with the doofus he married who can blame him? He deserved better and I have absolutely no idea what he liked in the doofus.
Altogether it was worth a read if you don’t mind a vindictive two-faced b* with an IQ of 4 for a protagonist. The good bit is that the OW gets a well deserved comeuppance which I very much enjoyed. You rarely get those in vintage romance and it felt reaaally good. Theatrical. But good and well written.
Another book on my to be read shelf, except …I already read it. I’m pretty sure I rated it before on good reads, and yet it has vanished(no great mystery here, so I guess I’ll just move on.)So, this isn’t really a review(until I read it again). It’s just a reminder to my 50 some year old brain(hey you read it, you liked it, and you don’t have time for a reread yet!)In the meantime I am going to remind myself to check out the other reviews on this book:
Nice old HP with a revenge plot. Heroine is a real Cinderella. She falls in love with hero he kind of ruins her life and years later our fierce heroine is getting revenge on our poor oblivious hero.
the triumph of the underdog - in soap opera format; including plastic surgery,a scheming OW and revenge. This was a fast paced book and one I enjoyed reading although, some of the situations described seemed a little too contrived for me. Also, I found the ending a little abrupt and couldn't quite understand the hero's sudden realisation of love for the heroine after all the deceptions the heroine subjects him to. nonetheless, it was a fun read.
Maybe 4.5 stars, for the sheer old-school fun of it. As a lot of the other reviews have said, this is one of those great trainwreck-style older HPs where a lot of the fun is that it's completely unrealistic so you don't really have to take the characters' terrible actions all that seriously. Normally I might rate this kind of story 5 stars, but I have to say that I just can't get that into the plastic surgery romances. I can't get over the feeling that the romance isn't real when the heroine is only beautiful because of plastic surgery and the hero wouldn't have loved her otherwise. And I can never stop thinking about the children either -- you can't pass the plastic surgery on in your genes.
But whatever, this was still a highly entertaining read with a ludicrously unbelievable and short resolution at the end.
Plastic surgery, changed identity, evil relations, cruel hero, deception, temptation, and so on. THe heroine’s psychotic relations primarily took her in to force her into indentured servitude and evil cousin and aunt made her life miserable but the changing point came when the hero inadvertently upped the ant so that she ran away and luckily her whole life changed. I just don’t buy the HEA with hero to be truthful. I also don’t understand why she wished to be revenged on the hero rather than the sick relations. Anyways it seemed to me that after learning the whole truth what he felt for her was more pity than anything else.
A man to stay a mile away from would rather be more appropriate ... Not that I liked the girl too much either. Yes, she had a bad childhood, Cinderella like. And the hero met her while she was a gauche poor little girl and dint think too much of her. She swoons over his photograph !! He assumes she is of loose character because she comes across as too eager.
Her adopted family true to the Cinderella theme are venomous people, they malign the girl, she runs away. But she doesn't feel vengeful of them, instead she hates the hero !
I haven't heard of plastic surgeries which can make a plain Jane into a stunner ! Wow, HP land indeed gives too much importance to the woman being a stunner, this story is a case in point. Because post surgery , the hero falls hook line and sinker.
No sir, he doesn't treat her any better just because he loves her now. Rape on a honeymoon, flaunting an ex in front of her, repeating the idea of a meek greek wife one too many times. Are these signs of a man in love !?!?!?!?
Nothing to fear about him, loathe may be, ignore is more like it. Was quite surprised to see many 4 stars reviews for this one. Well, we women do have twisted tastes ;) And HP knows this ...
this one was a real page turner! absolutely mind-blowing! i actually minused 1 star only bcoz the sex scenes were not described. however, thank god, their 1st time was not described! it was so horrible ! juliet was sobbing her heart out while dorian raped her. juliet was a master manipulator, she lied so much yet she wud describe herself as a bad liar,or some1 who did not like lies. the lil hyprocrite ! she was devious n a real bitch but dorian gave back as good as he got. he did not spare her. he's not a male 2 cross swords wid. he did not melt nor beg. he took by force what she denied him, even made her jealous in the process. she deserved all what she got. i felt the revenge was misplaced bcoz the real culprits were her own family not dorian. dorian only made an error of judgement. however i got no cause 2 complain: i mean revenge misplaced or not, dats wat created the angst, n made the book so awesome. the only thing lacking was sex. i never got 2 no when she did enjoy sex wid him/experience her 1st orgasms:P
Oh how I despaired of every finding another HP with a plot like The Judas Kiss. At least, until this book came along. Although this book was actually published BEFORE The Judas Kiss, The Judas Kiss is still my favorite HP.
This similar plot was still enjoyable.
THE PLOT: The hero wrongs the heroine and ruins her life, the heroine is obsessed with revenge and goes from a plain girl to a beauty with the help of plastic surgery. The heroine then meets the hero again and plots her revenge with him not knowing that she was the plain girl from his past.
This book was good, but the revenge in The Judas Kiss was much harsher and craftier.
