Jon Stanton finds his life unraveling. His fiancé has left him. His panic attacks are growing more acute. He's attacking his job with ferocity and violence. After nearly killing a human trafficker after he had surrendered, Stanton realizes he's losing control. And knows it all stems from one the disappearance of his sister Elizabeth twenty-seven years ago. For the sake of his own sanity, Stanton begins the investigation he's needed to complete for three decades. But everywhere he turns leads to a dead-end. The first big break comes at the discovery of several bodies entombed inside the home of a teacher at Elizabeth's junior high school. Armed with a resolve that he will do anything to find out what happened to her, Stanton dives into Seattle's child pornography and abduction underground, only to find as the truth emerges that some secrets might be better left buried. Bestselling author Victor Methos continues his Jon Stanton saga with a dark, heart-pounding thriller that exposes Stanton's character like no other thriller before it. Once you see the world through Jon Stanton's eyes, it's hard to see it any other way.
Victor Methos is the Edgar Award nominated bestselling author of over forty novels. He has been a criminal and civil rights lawyer in the Mountain West, conducting over 100 trials, and produces two books a year with his dog Fraiser by his side.
Jon Stanton wears his heart on his sleeve. His sister is disappeared twenty-seven years ago. Every little clues he investigates, comes up short. One dead end after another almost breaks him. But Hanny and Jon going to be very good bodies.
This may turn out for me to be the start of the demise of this series. I got a different feeling out of this book compared to the others. Previous books seemed to have a solid plot, something that I hoped was following the author's twisty plan. This felt disjointed, like it was written-as-you-go. Stanton's unusual propensity to violence in this book didn't help either. It had me asking myself "what is Methos doing?" Stanton doesn't behave like this. He doesn't conspire to kill suspects instead of arresting them. He certainly never tortures anyone to get information out of them. I don't buy into the notion that the abduction of his sister is tipping him over the edge. The obsession with it felt weak, not so complicated that after nearly three decades a level headed guy like him couldn't rationalise it. He's out of control in this book. He jeopardizes much of the evidence he discovers to the point where it would be inadmissible in court and his selfish actions almost result in the death of a colleague. The old Stanton has been replaced by someone less admirable. His colleague summed him up well, he doesn't talk to people, he talks at them.
Not my favorite Jon Stanton novel but still very solid. He felt almost like a different character in this one. He was doing a lot of things that the Jon from the earlier books would never have done. At some points I thought to myself “that wasn’t necessary.” He was not fucking around 😭 it is nice to finally know what happened to his sister. I also lovedddd how the book ended 💕 love Hanny so much and I think a dog will be very good for Jon
I’ve seen some reviews from readers saying this wasn’t their favorite Jon Stanton book, he doesn’t act like himself, where’s the level-headed Jon we all know and love…but it’s all in the title of the book, isn’t it? After nearly 30 years, he finally gets some answers and he’s willing to do what it takes to get them-he’s manic…he’s made it this far, and now he must know. The part of Jon that we know, that level-headed part, is there! We see it! He KNOWS he’s out of control, he admits it to himself, and this one incident (it feels weak to even call it that) has dictated every part of his life until now. It’s why he became a cop, it’s why his relationships failed-he is forever chasing ghosts, like his sister’s killer. And he was willing to die to get answers. The very definition of mania.
This book isn’t the Jon we know? Of course it’s not. It’s Mania and the plot fits.
For Stanton as he attempts to rid the killer of his sister years before Jon became a man. His return to his native state of Washington began with meeting a detective with the Seattle PD, an attractive female detective who wanted to see Jon find his sister's killer. Be prepared to sit on the edge of your seats as Jon determines a suspect from his past may be the culprit. Is he correct...or does he miscalculate? Returns home are not always pretty.
When Jon Stanton sets his mind on closing a case, even being out of his own jurisdiction won't stop him. After bodies are found in the Seattle area where his sister went missing nearly 30 years before, Jon stops at nothing to break down the pedophile ring and get to the truth of what happened to Elizabeth. The truth of the actual culprit who took his sister is almost more that Jon can comprehend. Great book for such a horrifying topic. On to the next book in the series!
Honolulu Detective Stanton returns to Seattle when several children's bodies are discovered in the backyard of a teacher at the school where his long-missing sister attended. Finally, some closure for him? Not really, as the story develops deeper into the depths of human depravity. No more plot reveals here. Once again Victor Methos writes a deeply caring novel that delves into the soul of a good but tortured man. I recommend reading the whole Stanton series (you will be very pleased you did) but it's not necessary if you're pressed for time. Each is nicely stand-alone.
This was a complex, intense, and emotional story full of heartbreak and devastation that changed the lives of so many people. Jon Stanton finally has the opportunity to figure out what happened to his sister, and he's not going to let anyone stand in his way. However, he never expects the evidence to take him in the direction that it does, but it's too late to turn back now. It's certainly a must read book and series. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and outstanding author.
This may be my favorite book yet - in this series. The twists, turns, raw emotions, love, hate, friends and enemies were so intertwined! I loved the ending!! Can't wait to start book 10 for various reasons. I don't want to spoil anything for the readers. I have enjoyed this series immensely. Sad there aren't many more. Jon Stanton is such a convoluted man in good ways and bad.
If so then there is no good in it. Hoping this will Just bring a new purpose in Jon. At last he's found the answer he's been searching for...spoiler alert ... no , ain't gonna do it, read it for your self. A new house mate enters. Hope Hanny stays! Read on fellow fans.
I gave this latest installment of the Job Stanton series a 5 Rating. Stanton finally was able to get Closure from the Disappearance of his Sister. He was ten when she disappeared and this haunted him his entire life. He became a great Homicide cop because of his obsession with the Disappearance of his sister. The ending was very reasonable and very believable
Methos has gone beyond his best with this tale. Jon Stanton jumps at the chance to find out what had happened to his sister decade ago. This story takes you into that quest and brings Stanton into the deplorable world of ‘pedosexuals.’ It is a thrilling book with an astonishing ending. Enjoy!
Did it again. Just as you think Victor can't pull off another one he astounds you. This series has been blessed and that rarely happens. You end up feeling connected to the character.
I have been hooked on Victor Methos series about Jon Stanton since the first book I read. I have now finished book 9 and am eager to start on #10.. They get more and more thrilling as the series goes on. I highly recommend to anyone who likes a good cop drama.
I have been enjoying all of the Jon Stanton Mysteries by Victor Methos (as well as other books he has written). I’m on my 9th book of this series and this is my favorite so far. I gave the others a 4 star rating and this one 5 stars.
Jon knew that he could never rest until he found his Sister’s killer. When the police found some corpses of young women in a house. Jon knew he’d have to go home to find out the truth. Great read!
This book brought me to a scary place. It always has some little words of wisdom in his books. A psychological study that he mentions. It was a very fast read. Do these things really go on? I think so!
Psychological insights continue to extremely powerful. The main character's life experiences, and resultant irreparable psuchological wounds are so very comforting
Jon Stanton in my book,is a hero he is always looking out for the other guy always doing the right thing can’t get enough of him and of Victor Methos Great book!!!
Just finished Mania and of course he delivered again. I am never disappointed in a Victor Methos book, he always delivers. Great read, just like all of his books.
