In this story about the little llama, Llama goes to spend the night at his grandparents' house. He's having a great time until he goes to unpack and... Fuzzy (his toy llama) isn't there. (We actually see in the illustrations that it's been forgotten in Mama's car.) Llama's grandparents manage to distract him with all kinds of fun things, but when it's finally time for bed, poor Llama is beside himself. Luckily, Grandpa knows just what to do.

This is a highly relatable story that will likely resonate with anyone who's forgotten to pack something important. The solution is sweet; Llama has such nice grandparents. (And, of course, there's a reunion at the end of the book between Llama and Fuzzy, just in case kids are worried if they ever get back together.)

Seeing the aging llama grandparents illustrated is kind of fun. The facial expressions are pretty amusing. Just like in the other books in this series, the pictures are strong.

This is yet another great title in the Llama Llama series that I'd definitely recommend.

Quotable moment:

This book is an awesome way to introduce different types of relationships. It explains to children safety when traveling, how to sit and prepare before sitting on the table. It shows the differences in environments; Llama's house and the gram and grandpa house.

Such a real tragedy of leaving your lovey behind. Super cute book but but I call bull on the kid just giving up their tantrum when grandpa brings a pseudo-Fuzzy….

Great book to teach coping skills. Children with separation anxiety can relate to this book and you can teach the children to remember what the child in the book did.

When Llama Llama goes to Gram and Grandpa’s house for his first ever overnight stay he is so excited that he forgets Fuzzy in the back seat of the car. He has fun visiting but at bedtime he has a meltdown. Grandpa has the solution… a little stuffed llama in blue striped pajamas that he slept with since he was a boy. Now Llama Llama can sleep tight in his home away from home.

Llama Llama forgets his stuffy but gram and grandpa keep him busy with fun activities. When the truth finally comes out at bedtime, Grandpa has a special someone to keep Llama Llama company throughout the night.

This is a sweet addition not just as a celebration of grandma and grandpa but for the sometimes scary feeling a little one might feel with their first sleepover away from home.

Soft place in my heart for llama llama. But honestly, it is like Caillou. I don't understand why, but it speaks to kids, and they can make predictions and text to life connections left and right.

The rhythm works better in this installment than it does in others.

It is a big day for the little Llama. She is staying overnight at gram and grandpa for the first time. She packs up all her things and goes on her way. Oh no! When it is time for bed, Llama realizes she didn't pack her stuffed animal, Fuzzy Llama. She no longer wants to stay. That is when grandpa finds a solution. He remembers that when he was young, he too needed a fuzzy llama to go to sleep. With the help of Grandpa's stuffed animal, little Llama goes right to sleep. I love the Llama series! Kids love how well they rhyme, while also being able to relate to many of the same situations baby llama has to go through. The cartoon llamas give them a childlike feel. They wear clothes, glasses, and walk on two feet, just as humans do. When the characters emotions change, it is visible because the way the illustrator positions the llamas ears and mouth. The breakup between full page and the small sequenced pictures give the readers a break, while also keeping their attention to want to read more. This is a great read-aloud because it is a fun story that students can easily follow along with. It isn't a predictable story. Students will want to know how llama is going to solve the problem. Lastly and most importantly, students can relate to little Llama and the emotions he has when he forgets his precious stuffed animal.

Llama Llama Gram and Granpa is about a little Llama going to stay at his grandparent's house overnight for the first time. Llama packs his bags and his stuffed animal "fuzzy" and goes off to meet with Gram and Grampa. He leaves his fuzzy in the car and quickly begins to panic. Not wanting to cause a scene, he does not tell his Gram or Grampa, and occupies his mind all day, until it is time for bed. Llama breaks down and explains how he left his fuzzy, and Gram and Grampa come to the rescue! The theme of this story is how important family is and how they will always helo you when you are in trouble or sad. I give this book 4 stars, because it is a very well written book and it shows the strig relationships that can be formed between kids and their grandparents. I had a "fluffy" as a kid and it was the most important thing to always have, so I feel a connection to this book when he leaves his animal. I recommend this book for grandparents to read with their young grandchildren.

This is another daily read-to-your-parent book my 6 year old son brought home recently, and, just like the previous llama book he read to me (Mad at Mama), I found this installment very enjoyable as well! It was very sweet and, again, relatable.

Little llama is spending the night with his grandparents, but becomes very anxious when he realizes he forgot his lovey (which, in this case, was a fuzzy). I thought it was a great way to ease a child’s fears about being away from home, letting them see that it’s normal to feel anxious or scared. And the resolution (grandpa had a fuzzy little llama could borrow!) was very sweet and tender.

I loved how, when baby llama forgot his fuzzy, Gram and Grandpa were prepared and had kept Grandpa's fuzzy from way back in the day. It gave me serious Toy Story / Velveteen Rabbit feels. Cute and with a great message of family helping family and fun sleepovers with grandparents. Made me reminisce on my first sleepover with Grandma Gloria and Great Uncle Sandy - they made me the best bagels for breakfast, watched Regis & Kelly with me (which I had never seen but was such fun for a kiddo!), and told stories of NY and Coney Island. I remember it so fondly and vividly. They even bought me a hermit crab from the Aventura Mall! Those were the days.

The Llama Llama books are a WONDERFUL series for your very young readers up through preschool age. After preschool age, these are great books for your beginning reader to start to read out loud. The rhyming text and beautiful illustrations make this a fun book to read. And as a parent, I appreciate that Dewdney also includes a wonderful message and/or learning moment for your reader.

This is a really great story for kids to read before their first overnight with their grandparents. It's also a really cute story to remind children that their parents were once kids too.

I remember reading the Llama Llama red pajama when I was little. This book is about baby Llama's first time spending the night at his grandparents. This would be a good to read to children before they spend the night anywhere because it shows how Llama is scared because he doesn't have his stuffed animal but once he tells his grandparents they figure out what to do to help him. He feels much better after he tells them what is wrong and they find a solution. It is important to talk about how you are feeling so you can get help and this can help teach children that.

Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa is a delightful story about Llama's first overnight trip away from home. The stunning illustrations and rhyming story beautifully depict how much fun LLama has doing activities with his grandparents. But he still feels sad because he left his special toy, Fuzzy Llama, behind. Don't worry, though! His grandfather has a special surprise that makes him feel better. An enjoyable read with your children on how to encourage them to have fun and not be anxious while away from home and parents for a trip.

We loved this book. What a great book that shows the fun things that grandchildren can do with their grandparents and the love they have for each other.

** Talking points - What are your favorite things to do with your grandma and grandpa? What do you call your grandparents on your mother's side? What do you call your grandparents on your father's side? What would you like your grandma or grandpa name to be when you become a grandparent?

My 2 year-old daughter and I fell in love with the series after reading Llama Llama Misses Mama. Reading this as a sequel didn’t disappoint us, either. As a happy coincidence, the grandma and grandpa are EXACTLY like my in-laws. I swear, my daughter’s going to think all grandparents are just like hers.

Anna Dewdney continues to follow her pattern of rhythm and rhyme. The illustrations are cute and add to the story. The main character is relatable to toddlers. All in all, it was a fun book.

This is a good book to read to children who may be dealing with separation anxiety. It has good rhyme scheme, good illustrations, and introduces how to handle "not so nice feelings" for children. It also offers good strategies for how to combat sad feelings and the role other family members play in our lives like our grandparents. Overall, the "Llama, Llama" series of books are great social-emotional books for young children.

I like how this book is a cute a relatable book for young readers. It covers real fears that young kids may be feeling when staying at their grandparents house for the first time. I like the cute illustrations that go along with the story line. This book shows kids that their fears are normal and even shows them how to deal with them. I like how these books are simple enough that young readers may even be able to read them in their own.

First time sleepovers can seem scary, but not so much with grandparents. Our kids are always so excited to see their grandparents, and sleepovers are special treats. Sometimes forgetting something you want to have with you can be very upsetting for children though. All the better if you can find something to act as a stand in since it isn't always possible to get the forgotten item.
