Jesus Christ is the most influential human to ever walk the earth. We've heard and seen so many depictions of Him that we think we know Him better than we actually do. If we took the time to really look at Him, we might be surprised at what we'd find.
In 52 Weeks with Jesus, author and pastor James Merritt leads you on a transformational journey as he shares what he's learned over a lifetime of studying Jesus' life and ministry. As you join Dr. Merritt on this journey, you will come to know and encounter Jesus in new and surprising ways and be inspired anew to embrace His invitation, "Come, follow Me."
Filled with practical applications and surprising truths, this book will help you more ably answer that ancient question that's as timely today as when it was first "Who do you say that I am?"
James Merritt (PhD) is a pastor, author, and host of the Touching Lives television program, seen nationwide and in 122 countries. Previously, he served as a two-term president of America’s largest Christian denomination. As a national voice on faith and leadership, Merritt has been interviewed by outlets including Time, Fox News, MSNBC, and 60 Minutes. He resides with his family outside Atlanta, Georgia.
I won this book online on Proverbs31. I'm very thankful I did. These past 6 years have been rough. Had a government job I really liked to be turned into a nightmare because of Bullying. Got a new job, but with same local government. Needless to say never trust HR. Then.., well more

My Review:
Learning more about our Savior should be a process that we constantly reevaluate and keep learning from. We can learn so much from His short time with us here on earth. He did and still does continue to touch lives. Being like Him should be our goal. One way to learn more about Him is to spend more time with Him and a great way to do that is through 52 Weeks With Jesus.
In this book the author shows us closer and more intimate way to discover our Savior. He takes you on weekly trips to get there and he definitely delivers. 52 Weeks With Jesus is more than just an ordinary devotional, it is a teaching tool and a more thorough Bible study. Each chapter has weekly Scripture readings as well as 5 different lesson points along with a weekly prayer and a weekly question. It is complete , thorough, and short quick lessons that will definitely help you reach new heights in your walk with Christ.

When it was time to start thinking about a weekly devotional for 2015, I found 52 Weeks with Jesus on Netgalley and after reading the synopsis, I thought it would be a good fit for me! I've given it two weeks into 2015 before I even attempted my review, wanting to be sure to share my thoughts after putting this one into practice!
I have to say that right away I was captured! One of my favorite parts of the Bible is the 400 years between the end of Malachi and the birth of Jesus in the New Testament. (Yes, I did just say that a blank page is my favorite page in the Bible. And I have reasons. I do. I promise.) But this devotional starts out with a quick reference to that and then jumps in to remind you why reading the lineage in the New Testament is important. (Because it's our history!!)
With 3-5 verses per day, a weekly prayer and some GREAT in depth study and questions? I think 52 Weeks with Jesus is the perfect devotional for me for 2015!
52 Weeks with Jesus was my year-long devotional for 2016 and what a great read it was! I absolutely loved how the book was setup and also the content.
The weekly readings start off with five Bible passages that you would look up in your Bible and read. The chapter continues with the day's devotional reading, then a prayer, and lastly a question for the week. I highly recommend this devotional.
*I received a complimentary eBook copy of this book from NetGalley for my honest review. As always, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.*
Life Changing. I read straight through and will now read it again one cheater per week. This book can have a tremendous impact on you if you allow it.
Life Changing. I read straight through and will now read it again one chapter per week. This book can have a tremendous impact on you if you allow. It can have an impact on others if you acknowledge each chapter and apply where you can to your actions. Thank you for writing this.
This writer, I guess in an effort to be funny or relatable speaks too casually of important matters. He rather exaggerates biblical stories putting them into modern sounding scenarios that become cartoonish. The saving grace is that the discussion questions and prayers are sometimes useful.
I liked this book. It was simple, direct, yet profound. The phrasing and verbiage by James Merritt was excellent in causing me to think and to re-think what I had read in Scriptures before. This would be a good book to give to unbelievers and have them walk themselves through Scripture.
Very readable with some good insights. It is broken up in a way such that you can make this a daily read through the course of the year or read in weekly chunks. This is not deep theology but solid, practical insight about Jesus Christ.
Excellent book. The quote on the front says, "Fall in love with the one who changed everything." I found this book, challenging, insightful and inspiring. I highly recommend it and would read it again.
Sometimes I get nervous when I start a new book, because I don't necessarily know what I am in for, especially when it is written by an author I don't know much about. That is kind of how I felt when I started 52 Weeks With Jesus by James Merrit. I didn't know what kind of book this was, or whether I would agree with the author's thoughts.
But I have to say, my nerves were soon calmed! This book is a devotional-type book that is meant to take you through an entire year. Each chapter addresses a different story about Jesus from one of the gospels, including verses for reference, thoughts from the author, a prayer to close, and a question to consider.
I had never heard of this author before, so I was on the lookout for anything fishy through the whole book, and I thought everything he said was theologically sound. The only thing I wished for was a few more references on some of the historical background Merrit gives on some of the stories - that would have made this book even more solid, in my opinion.
The author has an easy-to-read style, and he includes a lot of illustrations, which I really enjoyed. I thought his examples and stories tied things in very well, and it made each chapter interesting to read. I loved the insights Merrit gives into the history and cultural context of Jesus's words, and he pulled points out of many of stories that I had never thought of before.
Overall, I think this would be a great devotional and Bible study aid, and it would be perfect to start for the New Year! I recommend it.
Note: I received a digital copy of this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for tho review. This is my honest opinion.
I bought this at the newsstand in the airport while waiting to board a plane. I didn't read every word of the text because I find Merritt's writing unconvincing. Yet, I like to use the very short prayer at the end of each chapter to help me in my daily life.
My Grandson was reading this book when he came to be with me after the death of my husband. He told me it was a great book. How true. I started and then read a chapter every day from Sunday thru Saturday. Each reading of a chapter brings a different perspective. You see/read again and learn small insights. I will read this again beginning New Years Day. 😊🙏☺️
I finished this last year and enjoying and learning and growing in my journey with Jesus as I start to read it again this year. Truly a great devotional.
