This was a very enjoyable and well written debut novel. This was one of them books where I kept saying just one more chapter until I had it all read.

My heart broke for Kylie. Her worse nightmare has come true and now she loses her home. Feeling devastated she moves back to get home town to live with her brother. It's here she meets her first love Blake Winters. Can he protect her?

This is a really great romantic suspense. Every time I thought I knew what way the story was going to go it took a twist that left me sitting on the edge of my seat. I really liked the characters. Hope we get to read more about them in the rest of the series. Well done on a really great debut novel.

A copy of this title was received in exchange for an honest review.

It's been a long time since I could 5 star a book that wasn't erotica. Fatal Obession is the first installment of the Harden series and I cannot wait to read the following ones. There is mystery, suspense, passion, love, sex, secrets, surprises. You name, you got it. The emotions from reading this book were just as varied. I laughed, cried, felt scared. You name it.

Kaylie and Blake have known each other since childhood but haven't seen each other in 10 years. When tragedy strikes Kaylie's life, she moves back to her hometown and reconnects with Blake. Unfortunately, she also brings her tragedy with her. This debut novel by Lynn Stookes has you guessing whodunit right from the beginning. Even the epilogue has a little mystery and surprise. There are multiple characters in the book who are all very well developed and interesting. I cannot wait to read about the next couple in the series. Scenery descriptions were excellent and detail is unparalleled.

This is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I'm not going to say if it has an HEA because that will ruin the epilogue for you. Trust me, just go one-click this one.

Most exciting murder mystery ever! As the puzzle pieces begin to fit together and parts of the picture begin to emerge, the excitement builds and builds. It was fun trying to solve the mystery of the identity of the serial killer. The author would tease the reader by dangling partial clues before our eyes. The final scenario where all the puzzle pieces fall into place, questions are answered, secrets and intentions are revealed was most mesmerizing. Of course, the love story of Kylie and Blake was the icing on the cake. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars!

A very suspenseful romantic read. The story of Kylie and Blake will keep you wanting more. It will keep you on your toes throughout the read. The author did a great job with the details of the characters and the scenes. I was watching a movie in my head while reading.
I was given an ARC for my honest review.

This was a very intense book, and was very hard to put down. In the beginning Kylie is at an anniversary dinner with her husband Jeff and you can tell those two are so in love. Tragedy strikes as they are leaving the restaurant when they are mugged and Jeff is fatally shot and Kylie is kicked severely. Afterwards when she wakes and realizes not only has she lost her husband but her baby too.

Thankfully her brother Tristan moves her back to Harden with him, where is he going to be moving his business to. Even though her husband has been gone for 9 months, you can feel the sparks when Blake comes over to help her and her brother move into their house. I mean you can just feel the heat the more they are together. The heat gets stronger the more they spend time together.

When they finally realizes their is a stalker, it gets even more intense. You really need to read this book. I give this book 5 stars, Lynn Stokes did a great job with this book.

~~~~~~~~~~Patricia's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
OMG!!, where do I begin this book had me captivated from the very first page. Someone is stalking Kylie and a tragedy occurs which leads her back to her home town of Harden after 10 years. She doesn't realize the house her brother has bought is across the street from Blake a boy who broke her heart when she was younger. She goes through a lot of emotional ups and downs in this story. Murders start happening in Harden that seem to be linked to Kylie. Blake a Detective who has loved Kylie for years has to protect her from whoever this crazy person is. Then all t.he other couples in the book who you can just picture not picking up on how they are attracted to one another. I can't wait for the rest of this series I wish I could I give it more stars because this was such a really well written book I hated that it ends. But how does this story turn out well you will just have to read it to find out. It will be surprise who the murderer is and why and does Kylie and Blake get their happily ever after or does tragedy strike again?
You know when you start a book and you think you know how it is going to turn out and then that thought gets thrown completely out the door. Well that is what Fatal Obsessions did for me. This book grabbed me from the begging and left me still wanting more. You get suspense, intrigue and the love story that you crave.
Kylie Delaney thought she finally had everything she wanted in life. She had met and married the man of her dreams and she just found out she was pregnant. But one fateful night takes everything away from her and she is left with picking up the pieces and starting over with the help of her brother and her best friend back in her small hometown. But being here she faces terrible memories as well as some good and she must also face her first love Blake Winters.
Blake Winters has only ever loved one girl. He gave his heart away a long time ago to Kylie. Even as Kylie fell in love and married, Blake’s heart still belonged to her. Now with her coming home, Blake has a chance to not only show her how much he has always cared and loved her, but to help her heal. But he also has to protect her from an unknown factor that is now stalking her.
Can Kylie find a way to let go of the past and look toward the future with Blake, or will that unknown factor stand in the way and destroy everything.
Engaging and Suspenseful Debut Novel
Fatal Obsession is the debut novel of author Lynn Stookes. Surprisingly, I really enjoyed reading this book because romantic suspense is not my go-to genre. In many of the romantic suspense books I have read, the characters and romance are lacking, while the story is very predictable. This book contains strong primary and secondary characters, steamy romance, and the story kept me guessing until the last few chapters.
I can’t say too much about the plot because major events happen in the first few chapters and I don’t want to spoil the reaction for any reader. Overall, I really enjoyed getting to know Kylie and Blake. My favorite portions of the book were the interactions between Dani and Sawyer. I can’t wait to see what Lynn has in store for them in future books.
1st book in the Harden series, but there is not a cliffhanger for the main characters. Future Harden books will focus on other characters.
I received an eARC from the author in exchange for a honest review.
- Pov: M/F
- Hea: Yes
- Triggers: it's more a thriller than an erotic/romance, so there are a lot of deaths!
- Cheating: not between H/h
Kylie is a strong woman who loses everything in one tragic night and Blake is a sexy as hell Detective who loves Kylie since she was 15 years old. Now he has to protect her from a deadly danger.
I like all the characters but to be honest I was looking for something a little more "hot" and less depressing, scary and dark.
Blake is the perfect hero, he adores Kylie so much and deeply.
It was ok for me.
Murder Mystery With A Love Twist.
On what was supposed to be the happiest night of her life, Kylie Delaney loses it all. In what seems to be a random mugging, Kylie loses her husband Jeff and their unborn child that she didn't even get to tell him about.
Nine months later and she is losing her house and moving back to her home town to live with her brother and to be closer to her sister-in-law Dani. She also reconnects with an old crush who also happens to be a detective in their home town and one of her brother’s best friends and also the man who broke her heart when they were teenagers. This does not stop her from remembering those feelings or being attracted to him when she sees him again, but she also feels guilty and thinks it’s too soon since her husband was killed.
Blake has been in love with Kiley since they were teenagers and would do anything to keep her safe, so when bodies start piling up and seem to be connected to Kylie and the murder of her husband, Blake wants nothing more than to protect her. So of course the best way to protect her is to stay with her, to be with her 24/7. The more they are together the stronger their bond becomes and those old feelings come rushing back to the surface.
While trying to find out who the killer is and why he/she is targeting Kylie and the people she knows she and Blake become closer. Their lives become intertwined and the more this happens the more erratic the killer becomes.
I love these kinds of books. I was guessing the whole time. There were a pool of suspects to choose from and when it all comes together It. Is. Mind blowing. Props to Lynn Stookes for a such a suspenseful first book filled with great characters.
First things first, don't let my review put you off!!
I did actually find the majority of the story line page turningly good. There's drama, passion, anticipation the odd of bit comedy....all the things you like to see in a good romance mystery thriller type.
Characterisation is spot on. We get to see all their little traits and everyone is an individual in their own rights. Often times one character or another kind of gets left in the background, but not in this book.
The first few chapters and the last couple really had me gripped. I actually very nearly threw my tablet across the room right at the beginning of the epilogue! I just wasn't sure I could handle the pressure of turning the page to see what had happened!
My biggest problem with this book is in the writing style and editing. I found the structure very rhythmical. Some parts were like reading an instruction manual, other parts were worded the way I'd expect new readers books to be. Blake sat on the bed. Blake lifted my leg up. He unzipped one boot and took it off. He swapped legs and took off the other boot...Sorry...not conducive to steamy sex scenes if you ask me!!!
There are also a few head shaking typo errors and a lot of repetition within sentences. I think there might also be a spot of inconsistency in there too, regarding some mail between Kylie and Ana.
I also can't help but feel the author has set up her next couple of books way too easily!! There will be not great surprises in figuring out who they involve.
All in all, for a debut it's a good effort. Ms. Stookes shows a lot of potential and purely because I love Sawyer, I will be reading book 2 in this series...next, in fact!
This is the first book by Lynn Stookes I have ventured in to, I liked the look of the third book in the series so I thought I would start from the beginning and I’m glad I did. I have to admit though I struggled in the beginning to get into this story but after the first 15-16% I was totally hooked.
Kylie has just lost her husband and suffered an awful trauma herself, not only that but she loses her house shortly after and doesn’t think things can get too much worse. She moves back to her home town to be closer to her sister in law and her brother while she tries to get back on her feet. My heart totally broke for Kylie, the hits just kept coming.
Blake moves back to his hometown after going to college and working in Dallas for the past ten years. He had enough of the big city crimes and wanted to come home to the sleepy town he grew up in where the worst crimes they dealt with were underage drinking and the like. He has always had a thing for his best friends little sister Kylie.
There was so much going on in this story. it wasn’t your typical romantic suspense in may opinion. I have to say though I guessed a few of the big surprises in the book but overall there were so many twists and turns that I could never have guessed them all.
There were a few wee things in the book that kind of annoyed me slightly but nothing that was enough to put me off reading it.
This is Lynn’s debut but by the writing you would never have guessed that. The story flowed really well and the characters were all well thought out and developed. I really enjoyed this story and am excited to see whats to come next for the Harden series.
Things I liked -
The suspense was quite good and tight, and it’s the book’s biggest USP. For till more than half the book, we get no clues and the chase from lead to lead was gripping.
The H is as drool worthy as they come. He is hot, he is sensitive, he is caring, and he’s been head over heels for the h since she was 15!
The whole cast of friends and family was completely likable and relatable.
*Okay some spoilers now*
Things I dint like/get
The h was sad and lonely and grieving, but could still be a bitch? She lost her baby so yes it was tragic but to spew mental hate on a school friend who is pregnant? To be sad, heartbroken, to not wanna meet pregnant women would be understandable, but . .
My logical side knows it’s wrong to think these things, but the emotional side is screaming, calling her every name in the book, and throwing shit in my head. .
The whole idea of making a list of men she has ever had sex/relationship with, to give to the police was appalling at best. I don’t know if I wanted to know the number of men on that list or not, but it seemed like a long list!
She is on the pill? She is a widow of about 8-9 months and wasn’t on pills when married (as she was pregnant), so when and why she got back on the pill? The author could have added a line or two about that.
And call me a meanie, but I don’t like to read about bad people dying and leaving their kids to be raised by the ‘good’ people. All I can think of is that they can never be free of the bad memories and secondly, what do they tell these poor kids when they grow up? Thankfully, it was the SIL who gets the baby and not the h as I first supposed. That was a small mercy.
And a comment
Why does the poor ex has to be exposed as a cheater – post death? To make it look okay for the widowed h to move on? I would so like it to be okay for some similar stories to keep such memories sacred, especially after showing such a loving happy marriage. I was reminded of a similar situation in a recent book I read Black Widow
This book started out alright but ended in a mess. The heroine was alright but she didn't really have much character/depth beyond her relationships with the men of the book which isn't really the kind of heroine I want to read. The hero was better on that front but I tend to agree with her brother that he took advantage of her situation. Maybe not intentionally but he made a move on her way too soon...her husband had only been dead a few months she may be mostly done grieving but it's kinda janky to start something that fast especially after talking about how in love you were with dead dude. The couple was good together but I didn't think the childhood crush angle was sufficient to make up for the complete lack of relationship development. The writing felt stiff, with too much telling not enough showing and the occasional error. Also there were a number of inconsistencies between earlier and later points of the book (ie the beginning is all about how great she and her husband were together and she didn't need to be jealous because he only had eyes for her then later it's oh well we were drifting apart and things weren't going so well...which was it?!) I called the killer from the very first scene they were in so anyone hoping for this to be an actual mystery will be deeply disappointed. I was enjoying the book though until the final climactic scene where everything went to hell. The killer's motivation was so unclear and jumbled I wonder if the author even knew what they were. I remain confused about the why's of it. The epilogue plays a mean trick but there is a hea.
Tldr: cardboard heroine, only ok hero, no relationship development, no real mystery, writing isn't great technically, and the killers motives are unclear. Not a waste of time but nothing that inspires me to read this author again.
Kylie moves home after her perfect world is shattered, only to come face to face with Blake—the man who she had a huge crush on in her youth. She feels like she made a complete fool out of herself with him and has avoided him for years because of that. I liked Kylie’s character. She’s dealing with a lot, but working hard to move forward with her life. I also loved how she was able to grow and see how her sadness impacted those around her.
Blake is a confirmed bachelor, much to his mother’s dismay. That all changes when the girl he’s always loved moves back to their small hometown. He’s never been able to get Kylie out of his mind, and all of his old feelings resurface when he’s put in the position of protecting her from a killer. I am truly a sucker for stories where a guy falls for his friend’s younger sister, and I loved Blake’s connection with Kyleigh. There is definitely a lot of chemistry between these two.
Fatal Obsession is book 1 in the Harden series, and it is definitely a suspenseful 4.5 star read. From the first page I was pulled into this story with the creepy stalker scene. The events that followed kept me emotionally engaged with the main characters. I also loved the sweet romance between Kylie and Blake. The other fun characters in this story have me looking forward to reading the rest of the series. While I had my suspicions about who the killer was in this book, I wasn’t completely sure until the end. The author did a great job of pulling the mystery together nicely. Truly a fantastic debut novel!
Favorite Quotes:
“His apartment is a revolving door of dumb bimbos.”
“You’re thinking so loud it woke me up, Lee.”
My Review:
I have a new BBF, swoon! Blake is precious, sweet, kind, protective, and multi-talented. Of course he could only be found in a book… Ms. Stookes has made a strong debut with her initial offering of a steamy and suspenseful mystery. She had intriguing twists and turns that I did not see coming, the humorous character interactions and teasing that I enjoy, and likable characters with interesting traits and quirks. I am eager to see what she has planned for her characters in the next book of the series Ultimate Deception.
A great way to start a series....
FATAL OBSESSION is the first in the Harden Series by Lynn Stookes and it was a great way to start. This is also Ms Stookes' debut novel and what a terrific combination for a debutante, Romance and Mystery.
This is the story of Kylie Delaney and Blake Winters. It's not your typical "mushy" romance story, it has mystery and suspense thrown in there too. It is just enought to keep you on your toes throughout. Kylie's heart has been shattered, her worse nightmare has come true, so she moves back to her hometown to live with her brother and to be closer to her sister-in-law Dani. Also moving back is Blake, Kylie's first love, because he can no onger tolerate the violence he witnesses daily in the city.
Kylie's nightmare follows her back to her hometown. She and Blake reconnect as if the preceeding ten years haven't even existed. But it is Blake ble to protect her from the threat that has followed her home?
Ms Stookes had me constantly guessing to where she was going to take this story. that was the beauty of it. It was a pleasure to read a genre of romance that had me wanting to turn the pages quickly. Her story drew me in and her style of writing ensued that she kept me there. Yes, she made sure that she played with my emotions along the way too. She also ensured that her characters were well written and developed - you loved some and you disliked some.
This book can be read a standalone, but if you're like me, you won't want to stop at just one.
This book was fantastic it grabbed my attention right away. I have never read a storyline like this before, I honestly can't wait till finish the series. Lynn Stookes, did an amazing job with the the character's. I could not put this book down I read it in two days. This is the first book I have read from this author, I look forward to reading so many more.
The love that Jeff and Kylie had was short lived, I was sad to see it end so soon. The friendship between Kylie and Dani was special, always being there for each other throughout everything was amazing. The way Blake Winters is introduced into the storyline melted my heart, the way their love for each other blossoms in so special. Sawyer is introduced the same time as Blake, the way he teases Dani made me laugh. I really hope they get their own book.
I really think readers will enjoy this book, I highly recommend it to all, I have already recommended it to my husband. It's a gripping and heartwarming storyline. I just can't say enough about the storyline or character's.
This is a who done it, love story mystery.
Kylie, tristan, sawyer, and blake. Friends since b they were kids.
Blake and kylie liked each other as teens, but blake never followed thru because tristan is his best friend. One day kylie kissed blake, he was shocked and said we shouldn't do this. Kylie ran home, she thought that blake didn't like her. Is to its the opposite. When blake went to explain the police were at kylie's house. Then tristan showed up. Thats when they get the news that their father was killed in a car accident. Their mother had died years before sonitvwas only them three. Thats when everything changed. Kylie went into foster care for a year, until tristan turned 18 and petitioned for guardianship of kylie and won. Things get back to normal as much as can be. Until crap hits the fan. You really need to read this book. Thank united indie book blog for letting me read this book.
Where to begin?
First, this had a ton of potential. The prologue and first chapter or two were great. They sucked me in and made me want to keep reading. Unfortunately, it sort of fizzled quite a bit after that. But then the last chapter or two and the epilogue were great.
I think, for me, the problem is that Kylie and Blake don't team up faster. I know, in a way, that wouldn't have worked so well. But at the same time, from a plot standpoint, the investigation of the murders BEFORE they figured out the Kylie connection, well it was a bit on the dull side and took up quite a bit book space. Even AFTER the connection was made it was dull and filled with seemingly unnecessary and gratuitous sex scenes.
Speaking of sex scenes, by the time they actually DO happen, I was so disinterested that I quite literally skipped every single one.
Also, some of the details of the crimes that are revealed at the end didn't sit well with me. Mainly the involvement of one person and how she related to everything. It just didn't make much sense to me. It almost felt like the author was grabbing at the threads to tie them up into a nice little bow. But then realized she forgot one and tried to force it in there, creating a bit of a knot instead of a bow.
This book also needs some minor cleaning up as well. Throughout the entire book there is this annoying repetition of words within sentence structures. I'm sure your average reader wouldn't pick up on most of it, but I'm hardly an average reader. For example (and some of this is paraphrased, but not by much): "I put lipgloss on my lips" (well duh) "I look to see if I see anyone is looking, but see nothing..." um... I honestly don't think I've seen the use of "see" and "look" quite so many times in one sentence. There are other examples in the book, one involving the word leg, and I believe another with the word mouth. I didn't highlight each and every one, but they are there. A good beta reader would have picked up on those and pointed them out.
From a grammatical standpoint though, this was on par. I appreciate the proper use of their, they're and there and whatnot. I didn't feel like I was reading something written by a grade schooler, so thank you to whomever edited this.
I do think this story had potential to be quite a bit better. I do think Lynn Stookes has the potential to produce work that is quite a bit better. I do realize this is her first book, and for a first time this is pretty darn okay. I have a feeling I'll be on the lookout for future books to see how she grows as an author. She doesn't need much, just a little tweaking and better background support. But I do think she has the potential to be great!
PS: Lynn, If you want some extra help, feel free to contact me privately. I beta read and have been told I'm quite good at it. ;-)
If you like suspense, romance, drama and danger……then this is definitely the book for you!!! Amazing and wonderfully suspenseful, hopefully romantic and just a fantastic book! Totally a five bar book!!!
Kylie has a wonderful life. Husband - check, House - check, College degree - check….and now, Baby - check. She is happy and now that she is finally pregnant she is over the moon. She and her husband are heading out to celebrate their anniversary with dinner and dessert at home. She’s telling him she’s pregnant tonight and hopefully with this dream coming true they can get back some of the spark that has left their marriage over the last year. But plans seem to change in a matter of seconds. Seconds that will change her life forever. Seconds to send her, seemingly perfect, life into something unrecognizable. They won’t all make it home that night and the effects of this night will continue to change and evolve for the next year. Most of which will be spent back in her hometown with her brother.
Blake is now a detective in his hometown, after coming home from the big city. The big city wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Too many terrible things and being a small town boy meant the man just wasn’t used to city life. This makes Blake human and sweet and totally amazing. He has a big family and he loves his mama!! (I love a mama’s boy!) Growing up in such a small town you know everyone and Kylie has moved back and into the house right across the street from him. His first, and only, love. His first, and only, regret. His first, and only, heartbreak. She’s back…..so now what?
Good thing that Blake and Kylie’s brother are BFF’s, now he has a reason to see her. When things get really complicated and she needs 24hr protection…..well who better than a detective?!?!
Will Kylie forgive Blake for hurting her at 16? Will Blake be able to give her the time she needs before making a move on her? Kylie is going to have to deal with her guilt and grief….will Blake be there for her?
The twist and turns this book makes kept me on my toes. I couldn’t stop reading because I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next. The writing is fantastic and the story, if possible, is even better. It’s not complicated, it doesn’t have a million characters and the flow is easy to follow. This makes an easy and most enjoyable read. I enjoyed this book immensely. Huge fan of Lynn Stookes now!!!! You rock!!!!
Highly Recommend!!!!
Edge of your seat romance…
I read this book so fast I’m sure my e-reader is still smoldering! Kylie and Blake’s story is the first in the Harden series by this debut author. Kylie and Blake were neighbours growing up in the small town of Harden, Texas. At fifteen, Kylie’s delight quickly turned to sadness when her first kiss with Blake brought about a misunderstanding that drove a wedge between them. This, followed by other tragic events, led to a decade-long separation. It took another tragedy to bring them back together and it seemed they were being given a second chance. Of course life is not always that simple. A string of seemingly unrelated murders in the small town quickly became something much more sinister that was touching too close to home. With their close-knit friends and family, kin-folk and police brethren alike, uniting behind them, Blake and Kylie were determined to solve the mystery. Would Kylie and Blake be given that second chance after all?
I picked up this story and had to read it all in one sitting. The twists and turns to the plot just kept coming from one blind side to the next. The writing is crisp and the story is clear despite the, at times, dizzying amount of characters that seemed to inhabit the pages. I was happy to get out my scorecard, though, because I didn’t want to miss one step or nuance as the plot unfolded. Kylie and Blake were friends and lovers and I couldn’t help cheering the two on through the many harrowing events that faced them. I was reading so fast towards the end I had to stop myself and go back and re-read a scene a time or two. Each page revealed so much I didn’t want to miss anything as the story built up to a finale that entertained in its complicated simplicity. The author kept me guessing to the end which made me happy and not so happy in equal measure. Bring on Dani and Sawyer’s story – I cannot wait!
**I received this book for an honest review**
Murder Mystery With A Love Twist.
On what was supposed to be the happiest night of her life, Kylie Delaney loses it all. In what seems to be a random mugging, Kylie loses her husband Jeff and their unborn child that she didn't even get to tell him about.
Nine months later and she is losing her house and moving back to her hometown to live with her brother and to be closer to her sister-in-law Dani. She also reconnects with an old crush who also happens to be a detective in their hometown and one of her brother’s best friends and also the man who broke her heart when they were teenagers. This does not stop her from remembering those feelings or being attracted to him when she sees him again, but she also feels guilty and thinks it’s too soon since her husband was killed.
Blake has been in love with Kiley since they were teenagers and would do anything to keep her safe, so when bodies start piling up and seem to be connected to Kylie and the murder of her husband, Blake wants nothing more than to protect her. So of course the best way to protect her is to stay with her, to be with her 24/7. The more they are together the stronger their bond becomes and those old feelings come rushing back to the surface.
While trying to find out who the killer is and why he/she is targeting Kylie and the people she knows she and Blake become closer. Their lives become intertwined and the more this happens the more erratic the killer becomes.
I love these kinds of books. I was guessing the whole time. There were a pool of suspects to choose from and when it all comes together It. Is. Mind blowing. Props to Lynn Stookes for a such a suspenseful first book filled with great characters.
Have to admit I wasn’t sure I would like this book. I don’t know what I expected, but it wasn’t what I got. I was surprised and thoroughly enjoyed reading about Blake and Kylie.
This is the first book in the Harden series and as a debut novel, it really packs a punch. Suspenseful and intriguing, it will keep you on your toes as you try to figure out what is going on.
Kylie Delaney thought her life was perfect. She had a wonderful husband and was ready to start a family. One horrible night changes everything and she’s left devastated. Moving back to her hometown to help herself pick up the pieces of her shattered life, she comes face to face with the man who broke her teenage heart, Blake Winters.
Blake has grown up to become a Detective. He hasn’t forgotten Kylie and wants nothing more than to help her heal. His job as a Detective will come in handy as Kylie seems to have a stalker and murders begin to rock the small town of Harden.
The scene details and character descriptions are very well done and the writing is fantastic. So many twists and turns keep you guessing even with the little clues the author teases you with. I thought I knew what was coming and who the stalker was several times, but then realized I was wrong. I loved being surprised!
Fatal Obsession is a romantic mystery with so much intrigue, yet never lacking in the HOT department. The relationship between Kylie and Blake developed at a great pace and every character added so much to the plot. I am now invested in the people of Harden and I can’t wait to see what Lynn has in store for the others, especially Dani and Sawyer.
Kylie is one tough woman! She suffered the tragic loss of her mom to cancer, her dad was killed in a tragic auto accident, and then she was thrown into the foster care system that failed her incredibly. She finally has a life she can be proud of and happy with, a husband, a job she enjoys, and is two months pregnant! What could go wrong?
Fast forward a couple of months and she has the strength of Dani, Tristan, Blake, Sawyer, and Blake’s entire family to fight the newest demon in her life. She hasn’t seen Blake in ten years and there is a serious amount of chemistry there between the two of them. Does she really want to re-enter that memory? Blake broke her heart 10 years ago and is her heart strong enough to test the waters?
I absolutely loved this book, so much that as soon as I got done reading it, I had to one-click it! My emotions were all over the place with this book; happiness, excited, raw, frustrated, angry, sad. This author did a great job throwing different scenarios at you then dragging you back into the happiness. The suspense in this book was just enough to keep me reading to see what was next, but don’t let that fool you! There are some incredibly hot love scenes too! The mix in this book was my type of perfect!
I cannot wait to see what the author has in store next. I love that this book is part of a series that allows the books to be stand alone books and am incredibly glad she didn’t leave us hanging at the end of this book! I would definitely check out this book and make this a “go to” author when looking for new books to read!
I received this book from Enticing Journey in return for a fair and honest review.
Romantic Suspense is rapidly becoming a favourite genre of mine, with the fantastic debut releases of authors like Sheila Kell and now Lynn Stookes. It is hard to believe that this is, in fact, a debut novel considering the depth and detail of the story.
I won't go into the details of the story simply because that is what the synopsis is for. Also, I don't want to inadvertently give away any part of the story. The one thing I will say is that, whether intentional or not, the start of this story happened to remind me of the beginning of the film 'Ghost' so I was interested from the very start and wanted to see where this story would go. I had absolutely no idea on the twists and turns that it would take me on!! Just when I thought I had everything neat and orderly in my mind, the story would throw me a curve ball and I'd be back to wondering just who had done what and who was connected to who and how.
If Romantic Suspense is a genre of yours, then I can highly recommend this novel and I look forward to at least two further stories in the Harden Series - Tristan and Harper, and Dani and Sawyer.
I received an ARC from United Indie Book Blog in exchange for an honest review.
Yet another debut author  that totally blew me out of the water !
Lynn Stookes has a writing style that has you saying "just one more chapter".
Fatal Obsession is a romantic tale filled with suspense and twisted tales of deceit. Kylie and Jeff are married and are expecting their first child but their happily  ever after is stolen from them  when they're mugged.
Kylie is left shattered and broken. I'm in snotfest mode and yet again my kleenex supply is under severe threat !
Due to circumstances unknown to her , Kylie moves in with her brother and its then when her path crosses with Blake...an old friend of her brother and the investigating officer working her case who just happens to be an old flame as well !
Some fires never die and are left to smoulder.
Soon enough Kylie and Blake rekindle their flame . In between the romance we do have a body count that keeps picking up and some frightening revelations.
Towards the end when all is revealed I'm left picking up my jaw from the floor! IT WILL BLOW YOU  AWAY!
Well done Lynn Stookes on a phenomenal ★★★★★ read !
Wow 5 stars romantic suspense book. I couldn't put it down! I wanted, no needed to hurry up and figure out what was going on and who was behind it all. The twist and turns in this book kept throwing me for loops. I love a good mystery and not really knowing who is behind what but when it all comes together you are like duh!! Lol I love that and I didn't have a clue for most of the book which hardly ever happens with me so hats off to Mrs Stookes for an amazing job of writing this book. I can't wait to get into the second installment.
Kylie Delaney had the perfect life until one night changed everything. Now she's moving back to her hometown to start over. Detective Blake Winters moved back to his hometown to escape the violence of the big city but when bodies start showing up he questions his decision up until his high school crush seems to be the connection to them. But can he keep her safe and can she trust him when he broke her teenage heart? Find out when you read this book! It doesn't leave off in a cliffhanger even if it's book 1 in a series. If you like romantic,drama filled mysterious then you will love this book. I highly recommend it.
