I read the first two books in this series over the course of two days, basically. My actual reading time was probably 4 hours total. Because I was so in love with the concept and the writing and the characters that I couldn't put it down. This is shaping up to be one of my new favourite alien invasion stories and I cannot wait to see where the next book goes!
I really like this one, I think it's a great series. But I would have liked a bit more urgency at the end. I mean, there is literally an evil alien trying to destroy everything and all they are concerned about is tacos. I mean, I get the need for normalcy and all that jazz but .. maybe tell someone? Idk.
I think Jess really grew in this one. She obviously couldn't do *everything* because she was human, but I think she handled things pretty well. I also liked that she did some things that the aliens and other humans couldn't do! That was awesome! I also liked that she understood that she couldn't do everything! I think it was great that she started to realize that there were consequences to her actions and that it was important to understand the why behind them. I think it was great that her and David tried to figure out ways to be together even though they both knew it was futile.
David was much better in this book. I thought he had a lot more depth and dimension to him since he was in his natural element.

I received Ashes in the Sky in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by Chapter by Chapter.
David is gone and Jess just wants life to get back to normal but everyone is so curious to find out about her alien encounter. Jess hasn’t heard from David since they all left knowing that he’s got to prove to his people that they can terraform Mars and keep earth safe. However, being normal just doesn’t seem to be working for Jess because while Earth is safe she’s not done with the aliens yet. When she’s called to meet with an Erescopian who wants Jess to travel on their ship taking pictures due to the interest of his people.
Given the chance to shoot a once in a life time series of pictures Jess jumps at the chance while her father is less than thrilled. However a chance to see David is too hard to pass up after all she’s been missing him. However her trip aboard the spaceship will be anything but a vacation as she learns the truth about the terraforming. Will they be able to stop what’s happening?
I like Jess and David they are one of my favorite human and alien couple it just works perfectly. While they may have only had a whirlwind romance when they saved Earth the first time around they now have more time with Jess on the ship. While they have this sweet relationship it’s clear that that even though they aren’t the same species they have that magical chemistry and are willing to risk it all.
I’ve been impatiently waiting for Ashes in the Sky to come out so that I could see what would happen with David and Jess next. I found the concept unique it’s an interesting twist on the idea of aliens bringing a new story that captures the imagination. The characters are great you can’t help falling in love and connecting with them. Ashes in the Sky is another well written installment it’s action packed right from the start filled with enough mystery to keep you guessing and just enough romance to balance it out. I’ve very much enjoyed the authors story telling it’s a beautiful story and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one. I've been thinking about it while I'm not a fan of them typically I think I need an Edgar. High recommend for all fans of young adult romance.

What a book totally amazing.....

After finishing this book I can safely say I’m now a huge/ massive fan of Jennifer M. Eaton’s books, boy does she know how to take you on an epic alien adventure. I absolutely adored this book and book one too it really is a no holds rip roaring ride of a book. I literally speed read this book in a few days, it’s brimming with action, heartbreak, romance and all out catastrophe. The characters are superb they all really find a way into your heart, obviously apart from the bad guys which I loathed with a passion.
I loved learning all about David and his people in this one being on the spaceship I thought was amazing getting to see how they lived the heat changes that poor Jess had to injure the heartache and I loved seeing her grow and her dad too it was wonderful seeing her in her element with taking photo’s and her father being so much more open to it.
I have to say one of my favourite parts of this book was Jess and David on the other planet I thought Jennifer did an amazing job of capturing how it would be and the surroundings also the creatures there was totally fabulous and I loved poor Edgar never thought I’d love a spider but totally did.
All in all a fantastic Alien book bursting with amazing characters, world building and kick ass battles with the bad guys get the tissues at the ready this book will blow your mind.

3...2...1....BLAST OFF! You better hold on tight, because Jennifer is going to take you on one wild ride. I loved read this book! Absolutely loved it! I was so excited to get this book in the mail, that I read it in two days! Two day, people! Ashes In The Sky made me laugh at it's creative humor, but instead of it coming from David this time, it came from Jess. You know something funny is bound to happen with a human being on an alien space ship. I also really enjoyed learning more about David's people and their unique culture; very creative and very cool! Also, the sci-tech was incredible! Jennifer's writing style and her pacing with this one was perfect, everything flowed really nicely. I liked the twists and turns that Jennifer incorporated into this one too. Now I'm not going to lie, I did shed a few tears at her frustrating plot-twists, (Jennifer killed me, my feels have been shot!) but it all turns out steady in the end, I promise. Ashes In The Sky is action-packed, fast-paced, and full of creative fun. It's a book that's out-of-this-world and will leave many with wanting more, and in a ironic twist probably craving tacos.

Lately I've been impressed by sequels. Like, enjoying them more than their predecessor, which is a hard thing to do, when the first book in a series is the one that grabs your attention, makes you fall in love with the characters, and is that all consuming first impression you can never forget. But I have to say, I love ASHES IN THE SKY, even more than Book 1.
It could be the amazing world building that Eaton accomplishes, creating an alien ship made of non-earth elements, which is no simple feat. Though at times I found myself reading passed the scientific explanations, I still appreciated that they were implemented appropriately in the novel.
Oh and the romance builds, which I can't complain about. Seeing the passion between Jess and David continue is an added bonus. Especially when the twist comes early in the novel, adding to the life or death action and adventure.
Enjoy this series, it goes from great to amazing. But one warning I have to give is watch for the grassen.

When we think of aliens, I think most of us conjure up visions of little green men flying around in spaceships. I can assure you, however, the ones in the book I’m about to talk about aren’t little green men. They are otherworldly. Intelligent. A little self-righteous. But they have this incredible ability to turn into something us humans can understand, and that’s human.
In book one of the series, FIRE IN THE WOODS (a must read by the way before you read this one), we meet high schooler Jess, a National Geographic wannabe, and David, this kid who just crash landed an alien vessel in the woods near Jess’s house. But he’s not your typical alien. Nope. He’s hot. In fact, he’s the heart throb of every teenage girl in the world. Well, at least he looks like him enough to fool Jess. Anyway, the two end up on this wild adventure trying to escape the army that is trying to capture him, while David tries to protect Jess from the aliens that want to kill her. It’s a great story, and a fast read and I loved it, which says a lot because I normally don’t read Sci Fi. Needless to say, I’ve been waiting for almost 2 years for ASHES IN THE SKY to come out, and lookie!! It’s here!!
After reading the first book, I was expecting an excellent read and boy did Ms. Eaton deliver. This book was jammed pack with action and romance and I fell in love with alien David all over again. Can the guy get anymore swoon-worthy? The chemistry between Jess and David jumps off the pages. He’s so into her and she’s so into him, but they are always thinking about the alien thing that stands between them. How could it possibly work? He’s from a planet called Erescopia and she’s from Earth. In his true form, he is truly as alien as they come, but Jess loves him. In fact, she loves him more as himself than as the human David. But he’s so sweet and loving and doesn’t want to pretend that things could be perfect between them. I think this is a theme that teens can relate to especially if they are attracted to someone of a different race or of the same gender. How will people react? Where will they go where people don’t stare and talk? How can they have a normal life with so many prejudices in the way? I found it refreshing how the author wove this theme into the book about aliens. I guess humans aren’t the only ones to wrestle with these everyday dilemmas.
The action in this book is still there and it grabs you from start to finish. The pace is fast and you will reach the end of the book before you know it and beg for the last book. You’ll kick and cry because you can’t get your hands on Book 3 for maybe another year or so. Yes. You heard me. Of course, miracles are known to happen, so you never know. :-)
I loved the other characters in this book as well, especially Edgar. I’m not going to tell you anything about him except that he is a brilliant creation from the mind of Jennifer Eaton. He’s so … no. I’m not going to tell you. You’re going to have to read it for yourself.
Is there a downside to this book? I guess that depends on what you’re looking for. This is a YA book and it has a YA appeal. If you’re looking for something like ACROSS THE UNIVESE or THE 5TH WAVE, this isn’t for you. If you’re looking for something along the lines of ALIENATED, or Jennifer Armentrout’s LUX series, then ASHES IN THE SKY is for you.

"And I regret nothing."
Ashes in the Sky is a fantastic follow-up to Fire in the Woods; it has everything I didn't know I needed! I loved the adventure Jennifer M. Eaton continued and I am so thrilled she gave us more Jess & David. Her writing was engaging and creative. I really loved the in-depth world building, character development, and the awesomeness of space!
The adventure that Jess ends up on this time around was really fun and of course scary. I can't help myself, but alien stories are one of those paranormals that actually scare the crap out of me. It's not horror scary, just believable. I honestly feel that an alien invasion is one of the most plausible sci-fi scenarios. So yeah, this series felt really real and the worlds and scene building was incredible and I couldn't get enough!
As a second novel, there was a significant amount of character development and growth. Both Jess and David have a much deeper consciousness this round and they really make huge strides in their own personal development. They both are hilarious and expressive. I was able to vividly imagine what Jess must have felt like when enveloped in warm alien love. I wanted to be Jess in those moments of bliss, but I definitely didn't want to be her when she had to experience the polar opposite.
I devoured all the action, romance and twists! As much as I liked the sinister plot that throws Jess and David in another life threatening adventure some of the things that happened throughout were a little too coincidental. It didn't take away from the pure enjoyment though. Of course the best part of this book is how much Jess and David feel for each other. Jess, overall, has a lot of compassion, it's what got her into...and out of...a lot of the scenarios she encounters. Other than her love of bacon & meat, she would make for a very compassionate case-study. Maybe I am biased since I personally could never eat another animal, but I am no Buddhist, I've killed some insects and spiders here and there. But I am pretty sure I would have acquiesced as quickly as Jess did and realized that sometimes you have to close your eyes to see what is around you and embrace the good and beware of the bad that is out there. Not everything is as it seems.
I really devoured Ashes in the Sky, it was a wonderful sequel and this series is a breath of fresh air. If you don't fall for Jess and David and if you don't catch some feels then we were reading different books! Ashes in the Sky is a brilliant adventure, a perfect addition to the series and even though there is no cliffhanger, I am so excited for another book!

If you enjoy young adult adventure stories (or romances) and haven't read this series, you are missing hours of entertainment. I'm giving this book 4.9 out of five stars because of one little issue I had with the story, BUT that doesn't diminish how much I loved the book.
This story takes off a few months after FIRE IN THE WOODS ends. All Jess wants is to get back to "life as usual" by starting her senior year and leaving the spotlight behind. Because when you save the world from an alien invasion, there is a media feeding frenzy.
This book takes Jess out of this world. Literally. She gets her dream opportunity to photograph the inside of one of the spaceships. Of course, what she really wants is to see David again. What she doesn't want? To run for her life. Good thing she's in space so there'll be more flying from people who want to kill you rather than actual running. Although there's plenty of running and sinking through liquefying floors.
My pet peeve is the amount of crying Jess does in the early chapters of the book (once she gets on the spaceship). I'm not discounting that she felt plenty of anguish, but the tears seemed overblown. Every page. Every chapter. And David's crying. And I wondered, "Where is my tough, resilient Jess?" The good news? When push comes to shove, the tears dissipate and the gumption returns. Hallelujah! There's the girl I adore from book one.
I'm not a fan of long, drawn-out descriptions which is why I am a fan of this author. Eaton orients me into each new and remarkable setting without bogging down the pace with too many details. A spaceship with walls that become liquid? Got it. A green-aired planet? I see it. A spider with ten legs and fangs as long as my fingers? I think I'll pass, thank you very much.
Once again, this book gives us a complete story. We know there's more to come, but there's no cliffhanger, no hints that more trouble is on the horizon. Just a perfect ending to an incredible outer space adventure with a hot alien boy.
Even if you don't think you're a science fiction fan, I encourage you to give this series a try. It doesn't have all the techno-geek speak that turns me off to that genre.

A spaceship with walls that become liquid? Got it. A green-aired planet? I see it. A spider with ten legs and fangs as long as my fingers? I think I'll pass, thank you very much.
Once again, this book gives us a complete story. We know there's more to come, but there's no cliffhanger, no hints that more trouble is on the horizon. Just a perfect ending to an incredible outer space adventure with a hot alien boy.
Even if you don't think you're a science fiction fan, I encourage you to give this series a try. It doesn't have all the techno-geek speak that turns me off to that genre.

Jennifer has easily become one of my favorite authors. This book was even better than the first and I didn't think it was possible. Literally, never a dull moment. There was a part at the end that made me want to throw the book, but in a good way...

I loved the first book of this series SO MUCH that I immediately picked up the next one!
What I enjoyed about Fire in the Woods continued in Ashes in the Sky. I don't want to repeat myself too much, so be sure to read my review for the first book here. But I want to pick up on a few things that really stood out in this book.
First off, I read this book in a day, ignoring all other responsibilities, 100% because the excitement started pretty early on and continued (and escalated) right to the very end. There were moments where I was sure David and Jess were goners, or at least various body parts were!
Our main characters, Jess and David, were both kickass in their own ways, especially David. He was so caring and clever (because alien scientists), but Jess also had her smart moments. At the same time, they both had real insecurities, given that they were in love and from different planets. That's no big issue to overcome. There was even a moment where they had to acknowledge their different...err...parts. Because...ya know...David in his natural form doesn't have the same...uh...parts... AWKWARD. But I have high hopes for these two, as much as they seem to think they're too different to be together. For a start, there are ways around their physical problem... But also, the abilities that David had were starting to show in Jess, and while we didn't get too much of that this book, I'm really excited to see what else he awakens in the third book!
Other shining characters were Jess' dad, who really fought for his daughter through his PTSD, and EDGAR. I fell in love with Edgar, who was such a sweetheart in a creepy crawly way. I never thought I'd love a giant spider thing, but somehow Eaton made me want one. Edgar was the real hero in all of this, saving everyone's asses over and over. ALIEN SPIDERS FTW.
Bonus notes: I enjoyed reading about the alien technology, as well as the alien planet they stumble upon. I really felt like I was there, amongst the shiny metal walls and eerie forests. Given that none of these things are real (as far as we know), I have to give Eaton props for making it all seem real, at least to me!
Overall, this book was even better than the first to me. I seriously recommend reading my Goodreads updates below, as I think they should be enough to convince you to pick up this series. The books have kept me on my toes and made me believe in spider pets and alien love, and I cannot wait for book 3!!!

Jennifer M. Eaton is an amazing author. She draws you in to the book from the first page.
you start with Jess back on earth and David is on a spaceship but Jess thinks he on Mars. Jess is giving the chance to go on the spaceship to take pictures of the Aliens and shown around the ship. She is being followed but she don't know what by...
Her and David make out in the dark. Jess can't see him. She is thinking of him in human form, and David is hurt by that and walks away from her.
Then she finds herself lost and snaps picture of some aliens fighting. Little did she know in the back ground she found something really bad. The caretaker man found her she told him she fell throw a wall. And he takes her back to the girl alien who was showing her around the ship. They go the next room and Jess sees David in pain and she can feel it and falls to the floor. when she comes to she in the room that looks like her house. Two Aliens are looking at her they don't understand how or why she could feel David's pain. When the they leave Jess could feel David and yelled for him to get his ass in the room. David knocked on the room door and Jess pulled him in and he looked human and not in his true form anymore so he touch her with out burning her. David asked to see the pictures she took and she lets him. the one picture with the aliens fighting. He sees somethings that shouldn't be on the ship. Jess takes him back to the spot were she fell . then all hell brakes loose!

Ashes in the Sky blew me away with its amazingness. It was even better than Fire in the Woods!
One of the things I liked a lot was the alien technology. I mean, to read about technology that is far more advanced than humans is really cool. I thought that Jess’s dad was a pretty strong character in this book. In one part of the book, he had PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), and he got through it. Also, I can’t forget Edgar. I kind of wish I had my own Edgar - except for the fact that my parents would probably freak out… Anyway, Edgar was such a sweet spider and was really awesome.
There were only two small things I didn’t like about this book. The first being that in the beginning, Jess was crying a lot rather than being the strong character I knew and loved from the first book. The other thing I didn’t really like was the ending. I absolutely loved the first book and I absolutely love this book! Jess and David are back at it again in another wild adventure of a lifetime...and the Major gets involved. Jess's sarcasm throughout the book is just hilarity at its finest and I love it! The ending was to die for and I could not stop reading this book once I started it. I was hooked! I absolutely adore Jess and David and I so can't wait to read the next book!!!

Oh my gosh..this book was so so so good!
This whole series has completely sucked me in. The next book comes out tomorrow and I'm dying having to wait a couple of days to continue this story. Thank goodness I waited this long to read them because it would have really sucked to have to wait longer than a few days for the book.
Anyway, this book was great! It was an awesome sequel to a fantastic first book. 10/10 recommend.

MINOR SPOILERS
The book starts off a few months after where we ended with Fire in the Woods, where you can read my review of that book. Like in my previous review, I want to reiterate how fast paced and hilariously sharp tongued Jess is and I had no problem diving right back into the story once I got reoriented since it's been a few years since I read the first book. The writing and pacing are great, I sat on the edge of my chair as I binge read the entire book because I couldn't put it down.
Jess is still a fun and interesting heroine, her love of photography isn't forgotten and I'm ecstatic that this trait has been used more in this story. Sometimes it's even life saving for her in certain situations which I found fantastic. I enjoyed Jess in this book, we learned a little more about her relationship with her dad and friends but now we learn a bit more of how she is like on her own. I liked that Jess knows what she wants and goes after it even if she does flounder a bit, it just makes her more endearing to me. I'm not sure I'd say that she had a lot of character growth but I also don't feel like she needed it too much as she is already a good person.
David is back! Yay! He's still as adorable as ever but he seemed more vulnerable in this story which I enjoyed. I do find it weird that Jess never called him by his real name, you'd think she'd ask him which name he'd prefer to be called but that didn't happen in the book. I love that we learn a little more about his history and that he is still an imperfect character who tries to be a good person even though he made mistakes in the past. That just makes him more human to me. He's so lovable and honorable but strong at the same time, I just can't take it. *squee* I freaking don't blame Jess for not wanting to let him go. It breaks my heart that they can't touch in their normal skin and I hope there might be a way to solve it so that David doesn't have to change himself.
The grassen are pretty awesome. I wasn't sure how I felt about them at first but I love the new additions now! I cringed when she whacked or tried to get rid of it several times but it kept on coming back. I'm curious as to why it chose to follow Jess, wish there had been a good explanation. Such a cool little critter and I kind of want one...even though I'm not a huge fan of arachnids.
I love that we get to see the alien technology! I laughed at how Jess described the alien ship. I'm directionally challenged and strongly rely on landmarks so I'm pretty sure I'd be useless on that ship. I totally understood what she meant when describing it but loved how the aliens and later Jess, learned how to navigate the ship. I was surprised because they said that the ships were overpopulating but hardly ever saw anyone out in the halls during Jess's tour. I just found that odd for a spaceship running out of space, she'd not accidentally run in anyone.
Enjoyed learning more about the aliens but still I had several questions that were unanswered. I wanted to know more about their culture, like how they age, how they reproduce, or even how to tell genders apart if they have genders. I'd also like to learn more about what makes a bond because it seems like Jess and David have it. Jess asked a few questions earlier but I'd be probing for far more if I were interested in alien life and customs.
The climax is satisfying but I'm not sure I would say it's as big as a climax as the previous book. It's still good but I feel like there could have been alternatives to destroying a ship of a dying species. Still I felt it pretty intense and couldn't stop myself from reading and I didn't want it to end. Again, like in the previous book, I found myself wanting Jess to do something during the big fight. I felt like she could have done more, at least wield a gun/disc to shoot someone. She seemed like an observer and useless during the fight. That's one of my pet peeves, useless characters when she could have been doing something. I feel like she could have done more during that scene instead of watching it all.
The conclusion is good, I like the end where the entire story left off, but again, I wanted an expansion to the end. What were they going to do now? What would happen between the characters? What are they going to do about the bad guys? I wished that it would at least hint at it at what's to come for the next book.
Overall, this is a satisfying and worthy sequel. I highly recommended if you enjoyed the first book! It won't let you down! Thanks for the adventure!

Overall Thoughts: Ashes in the Sky continues Jess and David’s adventure on the Erescopian ship outside of Earth. I definitely felt as if I was sucked into the books. I read through most of this book in one day since I could not put it down! My eyes were glued to the screen, for the story kept me hooked! The author definitely didn’t let me down in the sequel to Fire in the Woods!
Plot and Action (Strength): The book is so fast-paced that I tore through it with lightning speed! Eaton packed so much action, adventure, thrills, plot twists, and surprises galore that you never know what happens next! I never felt bored with the storyline since Jennifer packed so much action, adventure, and surprises into it! At times, I felt like as if I was watching an action movie! It was that great!
Characters (Strength): I loved Jess’s POV! At times I felt the same emotions she felt and wanted the same things she wanted. You could really feel her angst, her sorrow, and her tension, and this made me feel very sympathetic to her. I wanted what she wanted and became angry when she was angry! I love it when you could feel what the main character is feeling.
Similarities to the First Book (Weakness): My only pet peeve with this book is that it the story arc felt really similar to Fire in the Woods. It was so similar that it really didn’t feel too unique or as if it added something new to the story. As much as I liked reading this book, there could have been more to added to the arc in the entire series. In The Continuum Trilogy by Jennifer Brody, each book, even though they were all fast-paced, had their own touch and feel. The Fire in the Woods books just seem similar to me. The reason why I’m removing a star is that it could have been varied more so it would not have a similar feel like its predecessor, but I did enjoy them both equally.
Concluding Thoughts: Jennifer M. Eaton did a wonderful job continuing Jess and David’s escapades outside of Earth! I am definitely looking forward to ending the trilogy with the newly released Embers in the Sea! I have a great feeling that it's going to be really good!

Wow! This book is intense. The new adventure started right away. No dilly-dallying. It gets into right into the action.
So, this continues the adventure of Jess with David. This time, she is called to represent our world to David's people. Not to mention, she gets to photograph David's ship. Isn't this a once-in-a-lifetime chance? An experience no one gets to experience in this lifetime.
If you think this second installment is just about Jess having a grand tour of an alien spaceship? Well, you are truly wrong. This tour turned into something sinister and of deadly proportions. Not to mention a crash-landing into another alien planet. But this also lead Jess to meet a very unexpected and unlikely ally. In this book, the word unexpected would you haunt every time. A lot of very unexpected and literally out-of-this-world happenings were experienced by Jess. It was amazing and most terrifying, at the same time.
This book just added more oomph to this adventure. The energy and surprises just kept on building and growing. I wonder what will happen in the next book. There is no slowing down this trip to the outer space.
I give the book 5/5 clumps of fallen leaves. I really enjoyed this book. Especially, the part where they crash landed on another alien green planet. I think Edgar made all spiders, whether earthly or alien a little less scary. This adorable character has slowly crawled into my heart. I can't wait to know what else will it save Jess and David from. Nice to meet you, Edgar. Welcome to Earth!

Jess is an 18 year old who had just saved Earth from an alien invasion with the help of one of the aliens, David. All she wanted to do was get back to normal, a relative term here, and begin her senior year at school.
But that might be boring.
As chance would have it, Jess is invited on board one of the now-friendly alien space ships to take photographs. She is an excellent amateur photographer. And from there the adventure takes off in a far-flung galaxy. Jess needs to decide whom, or what, to trust. She discovers the depth of love and the bravery of friends. A fast-paced novel to enjoy. I highly recommend it.

ASHES IN THE SKY by Jennifer M. Eaton is the second book in the series,Fire in the Woods. I did not read the first book. Jennifer M. Eaton does a wonderful job of bringing the reader up to date with the story. It is a wonderful mix of adventure, science fiction, romance,fantasy and young adventures series. It has a strong young woman named Jess and David, the alien who Jess loves. Jennifer M. Eaton does a wonderful job of using the science fiction part with alien technology. Jess and David are the romance and adventure part. Ms. Eaton does a wonderful job of making you interested in what happens next. It is well written and gives just enough attention to detail to keeps you involved.I hope that the series will continue so we can found out what is going to happen next.

Book #2 was well worth the wait. It followed on nicely and was a very
satisfying read. Jennifer, please don't make us wait another year for the
next installment!! I can't believe you have me caring about a spider but I'm
keen to hear what happens to Edgar and of course, Jess and David.

A good follow up to the first one, started off a little normal and blah, however. The exploration of the new planet and the space ship was cool! I enjoyed that! However, if I see the word "chittered" one more time I'm going to scream.

Finish with this book and don’t read the third one. There is no story on the third book. This writer has talent, but please don’t give us a book that there is not plot.
