I was born in Crescent City , California , a small logging town on the Pacific coast, home of enormous redwood trees and clear rivers. I have great memories of playing on stumps the size of small houses on my grandmother's acreage in a little town just north of Crescent City called Fort Dick . My sister and I would take daily walks to the main street store—an old, tiny white building that included the town's post office. The main street included just the market, a tavern (appropriately called The Stump) and a church we attended each Sunday morning. I loved that small town…and I still do.
In the early seventies my family moved to Washington, a state with gorgeous mountains, beautiful forests, and lots of green, which meant lots of rain, but I love all the seasons. I have wonderful memories of my childhood—a mother who was always at home, a father who worked hard to give us a good life, and a sister and brother who always looked out for me.
When I was all of 14 years old, I met Kip Templeton, my brother's best friend, and the man I would one day marry. Green eyes, dark hair, 6'1", and built like a Greek god , Kip had quite the reputation as a bad boy. I was absolutely terrified of him. Being that he was almost four years older than me, not to mention my brother's best friend, he was off-limits.
Yeah right…
Kip swept me off my feet and at the tender age of nineteen, I became pregnant with my first child. That same year I also discovered historical romance in the form of Kathleen Woodiwiss’s SHANNA. That book started a love of the genre that would spark a desire to write my own stories.
Two kids and many years later I sat down at my computer and started writing a romance novel. Realizing I had a lot to learn, I bought research books, and studied the craft of romance writing. I joined Romance Writers of America, and attended a Romantic Times convention. I went to every workshop and absorbed every word. I met authors like Heather Graham, Kat Martin, Virginia Henley and Susan Johnson who were all approachable and friendly. That trip solidified my desire to become a published author.
I sold six short stories to confession magazines, and felt like I was headed in the right direction when an untimely illness threw a wrench in my plans. Soon my focus turned from writing to fighting an inflammable bowel disease that would eventually cost me my large intestine in a radical surgery.
During my illness I had lost my desire to write, but eventually I felt that familiar urge to sit down and start a new story, and I did just that. I’ll never forget the phone call I received from Amy Garvey of Kensington saying she wanted to purchase the novel for their new Precious Gems Historical line. In that moment I had realized my dreams…and it felt incredible.
Since then, I have sold time-travel, historical, vampire and contemporary romances to Berkley, Avon, Ellora's Cave, Cerridwen Press, Hard Shell Word Factory and Triskelion. I’ve also made some incredible friends (Beth Ciotta, Jordan Summers, Tracy Cooper-Posey, Jolie Mathis, Mary Stella, Cynthia Valero, Patrice Michelle, Kathy Love, Arianna Hart & Kate Pearce) to name a few…who have gone through the ups and downs of publishing with me.
I still live in Washington with my husband Kip, who is my biggest cheerleader (I even talked him into modeling for my historical romance SURRENDER TO LOVE). Our daughter has left the nest but lives nearby and our youngest is attending college and still lives at home. We’re enjoying our lives and even bought a Harley, something we’ve been waiting twenty-plus years for. It’s a good life…and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Thanks for taking the time to read about me. I hope it gives you a good idea of who I am.
This one is just ok there’s technically nothing working with it and the writing is mostly fine but for me, the story itself is just too simplistic. It needs some added filler, some meat to it. I like the general principle middle-aged woman along with her friend is body swapped with a much younger woman. This could have been brilliant instead it was just meh.
So Deanie who is forty finds herself transported to the past and is now inhabiting the body of mid-twenties (24 I think) Abigail a vain shallow woman who has made a mockery of all of her wedding vows. Her husband Reece an English Lord quite rightly seems to hate her and they have been living estranged for many years. Following him back to his estate in Wales it’s not long before Reece once again succumbs to his wife’s allure. But with her seeming so drastically different it’s not long before he’s questioning who she actually is.
Things here just seem to happen so easily and Reese just falls back under his wife’s spell almost instantly. There’s no real angst or even any frank discussions concerning the past. I also wasn’t a fan of the eventual resolution. Overall this had a decent premise but it just then fell quite flat and failed to Inspire any great interest from me unfortunately there was definitely something missing.
It was an okay book. Was disappointed the hero didn't get to have his own kids when I think he really wanted them. So unfair! There were a few other things in the book that I couldn't be comfortable with like the friend who caught her husband "cheating" and then goes to the past and "cheats" on him as well. On the husband's end, aside from holding hands and lying about dinner there was nothing concrete on the cheating but as for the wife she totally made out with the butler. Frenching is still cheating people!! The romance isn't well developed either and barely believable.

This was a sweet and sexy story that also tugs the heartstrings; a delight to read, and surprisingly full of emotional depth for a short story.
The heroine, Deanie Johnson is long-suffering and loyal without being made into a martyr. I admired her emotional bravery in taking the old woman’s invitation to go and find her soulmate. The hero Reece Rayborne, the Earl of Pembroke is gentlemanly and sexy, a perfectly drawn hero of Regency England.
Reece’s feelings for his difficult and emotionally cold wife are handled well without becoming trite. It’s easy to sympathize with him.
Deanie’s feelings of shock and surprise when she wakes up in the body of a twenty-four year old beauty are realistic and well done. The sexual chemistry between her and the gorgeous man who is now her husband crackles. I enjoyed Deanie’s frank enjoyment of Recee’s sexy bod and handsomeness. I liked the touch of humor about it too. The sex was hot but vanilla, full of graphic sensuality and romance. None of it was gratuitous; it all moved the plot forward as Deanie works to melt the ice in Reece’s long tortured heart.
Ms. Templeton does an excellent job of showing Deanie’s conflict between the her ties to the world she left behind and the growing bond she has with Reece. I like how the author solves this, even if it does feel a bit rushed at the end. A perfect sugar and spice romance and a quick but satisfying read.
Do you ever wish that you could take back that hateful comment you just made, or have a chance to change the course of a relationship? In A Second Chance, Deanie, Karen, and Reece have that chance.
Deanie and Karen are in their mid forties, and have been abandoned by their husbands. Deanie and her husband are divorced. When Deanie and Karen go out to dinner, they see Karen’s husband with another woman - obviously not just a friend. They encounter this strange old woman, and she gives them a chance to leave their current lives behind and have A Second Chance at life and, perhaps more importantly, love.
They are transported back to Regency England - you know - where women wear petticoats beneath their dresses and care for the house, while the men are out on their inherited lands and title, trying not to loose the family fortune.
Deanie is transformed into Abigail, Reece’s wife, whom he hates with very good cause. Karen is also taken back into Regency England with Deanie and transformed into Bertha. They are both given their Second Chance - to stay in Regency England with new men, who may be their soul mates. There are several wonderful, explicit, steamy sex scenes. What would you do, if given the chance to have a Second Chance? Read this book, and discover Deanie and Karen’s choices. You won’t be disappointed.
A Second Chance by Julia Templeton is a compelling, fast-paced Time Travel story about a woman named Deanie traveling back in time with her best friend Karen for a second chance at love - sort of like Kieran the Black but yet not at the same time. Deanie finds herself in the young body of Abigail, wife - in name only- of the dashing English Lord named Reece. And Karen finds herself in the body of one of the servants. Both have a chance at love and Karen finds herself missing and loving her husband more. The intimate details between Reece and Deanie were rather sweet but still sizzling hot. And the book ended in a very different but understandable way than I had initially expected.
I don't know how this book got on my TBR, I must have been seduced by nice cover and not-so-bad summary. So when I needed something short for time travel romance in a challenge, I thought this short novel would be my salvation.
Unfortunately, reading it turned out to be uninteresting and sometimes irritating. Like: Why would a woman who traveled from modern age to regency period start to call things in her thoughts by outdated names? To better blend in? The love story is completely unbelievable and not developed enough.. I am being generous with two stars here...
This book was one of the best well written storylines that I have come across in quite awhile. The character development exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed the back and forth time travel. So just where is that little old woman when you need her. Loved the story and highly recommend.
2 star round up to 2,5 star. It wasn't my cup of tea but it wasn't the worst of what I've read. The romance in this book contains mystery and time travel. And the storyline, it remind me (almost similar) with When There Is Hope - Jane Goodger.
So brilliantly written with amazing plot and story line! It's a realistic love story between Reese & Deanie but, I still can't grasp the theory about time-travel and how it works. need a little more research and reading, I guess. Overall, great love story and character development!
I always enjoy romance with happy endings. This has a special heroine who's older and wiser than most and gets the opportunity to find the kind of relationship she never had. Sexy, funny and satisfying little story.
If you looking for a short, hot romance story, this is it. I agree an additional ending is needed to tie it up. Found it a little humorous with the reactions of Reece to his evil, dead wife. I think it was an enjoyable short read.
