Eight Crazy One Night Stands: A Steamy Hanukkah Story

Rate this book
Being Becca Strauss, patent attorney, is no match for my mother, Marilyn, a top-tier Socialite in Detroit and force of nature. Mom’s endless, cutting commentary about my single-ness has reached new heights. When she challenges me to find a respectable date—no, boyfriend—before her Annual Charity Hanukkah party, I buckle under her years of taunting.

In my defense, all of my focus has been on making partner, not finding one, and I’ll do anything to keep that dream alive—including placating my mother. So, Mom and I strike a deal, and before I know it, I’m dating eight strangers in one week without a wingman. Actually, that’s not true. My lifelong friend Spencer has my back—though sometimes I get the feeling he’d like to be in the lineup, too. While I’m not afraid of a challenge, each of these dates is weirder than the last. The likelihood of me achieving my career goal and my mom’s dreams for my happily ever after in just one week seems impossible. And as each candle is lit, my stress levels spike, but my determination doesn’t waver.

This laugh-out-loud Hannukah romance written by the author of Always Falling Behind is the perfect way to light up the holiday season.

This book kept me entertained, but I wasn't super impressed. I enjoyed the Jewish representation, but the stereotyping was a little outdated. It was quick enough and funny at times, for sure. I also didn't love how Becca was hooking up with everyone while in love with her best friend. I noticed a lot of grammar and missed editing, which took me out of the story. I also wish Becca had stood up to her mom sooner rather than later. It was delightfully spicy, but some date timelines didn't make sense. As I said, it was funny and entertaining but needed some work.

If you’re looking for a steamy Hanukkah romance, look no further. Becca is desperately trying to appease her mom, and to have some holiday fun while she’s at it! I also really enjoyed the trajectory of Becca’s career and how that story develops.

I will note to be mindful of the TW if it is a topic that you do not wish to engage with. The author was very receptive to my feedback on this issue, but the topic itself definitely affected my overall enjoyment of the novel.

However, if you don’t share this perspective, you’ll surely enjoy how the author takes aim at outdated stereotypes, one steamy date at a time.

Oh my goodness, this was a fun read. The whole time I was reading I was yelling at the main character (in my head anyway) to not be stupid, to notice the man that was right there while she's going on all these dates. Spencer is a man among men. I can't say too much more of my feelings without spoilers, so I'll leave it at that.

A meddling Jewish mother sets up a deal with her single lawyer daughter in her 30s to find a boyfriend. They agree to 8 dates- one each night of Hanukkah. Cute premise. Unfortunately this book was so cringy all the way around. Just yikes.

Such a fun short read! Becca is tired of her mother trying to dictate her life, so they make a deal that she will go on eight dates (some her mother picks and some Becca picks) to go to the Annual Hanukkah Charity dinner that her mother hosts. The dates are crazy and last throuhout the Hanukkah holiday. But there's something that Becca won't admit to herself or anyone else: she's in love with her friend, Spencer! Will Becca find the perfect date for her mother's dinner? Who will it be? Does Becca ever tell Spencer how she feels? So many questions will keep you flipping the pages faster to get to your answers!

I'm sorry but this was such a bad book. I wanted to stop so many times, but wanted to support a Jewish author, but elohim adirim, it was hard to get through. The main character was unlikable. Supposedly she's in love with someone but is sleeping around over and over again. The sex scenes seemed to come out of nowhere and weren't very well written and in fact, quite cringy. All of the men were more likeable than Becca and it seemed to me like she was just playing with them. Yikes.

One top of that the editing was so bad. There were missing words all over the place that meant I had to infer what the sentence was saying. Like how in a published book are words literally missing.

What an fabulous read. Once I picked it up, I was not able to put it down. You have Rebecca, a very hot and very intelligent successful patent attorney on her way to partnership dealing with a mother who's only worry is making her a grandmother, and Hi jinks ensues. If it wasn't for her lifetime best friend Spencer, and her loyal assistant Emily she could not survive. To make it to her Mother's Charity Hanukkah Party with a forced promised date, she agrees to go on 8 dates in 8 nights all while her partnership at her law firm is on the line. What could possibly go wrong?

Becca Strauss who is trying to get her mother off her back about not being married and giving her grandchildren, agrees to go on eight dates before her mother's Annual Hanukkah Charity dinner. The dates last throughout the eight nights of Hanukkah, but Becca has a secret that she is keeping from everyone, she is falling for her best friend, Spencer. All the while Becca has been working hard to become a partner at her firm, where she works as a patent attorney. Will Becca find a date? Will Becca make a partner at her firm? Will Becca and Spencer tell each other how they feel? And the most pressing question is, what could possibly go wrong?

my husband said when he saw this title I was going to start reading " wow so she is going to sleep with 8 guys? that is a plot...... wow so she is hanukkah slut" I told him it wouldn't be that bad...... I was wrong. I thought the premise of she had to go on dates with 8 guys was funny, My question is, does she have to have sexual relations with every guy? the red flags in this book are too many the wonderful guy that she ends up with deserved better than her.....

This is a fast paced, steamy, and fun book. Unleash your inner bad girl and go on an adventure with Becca. Sometimes we need to go through a bunch of Mr. Wrongs to recognize Mr. Right.
While this book moves too fast at times, it seems to represent how Becca herself is feeling- and when she takes time to slow down you can truly appreciate what she is seeing and feeling.
Lots of steam, lots of laughs, and ultimately lots of heart

At the very least, before hitting publish, an author should probably make sure they’ve finished all of their sentences. Any kind of editing would have done this book a world of justice, the timeline was messy, the main character was vapid and shallow, but called out the men she was “dating” for the same thing…… pot, meet kettle. Why did I finish it? It felt like the fan-fiction I used to read in high school, I knew it was bad and still couldn’t look away.

3.5* I almost DNF’d it pretty early on because there was a lot of grammar and editing issues, throughout the whole book, and it was just sort of cheesy, but I kept reading and then I got into it. I really wanted to meet each of the 8 guys, know how each of the dates went and what kind of shenanigans ensued. It was a really fast read for me and of course I liked the Jewish representation.

not as good as I thought it’d be

This book was ok, but didn’t live up to its hype. It was also too preachy at points. A few funny scenes and a funny premise but otherwise it fell flat.

This book was so cute and spicy! I loved the characters and evolution of the romance. It was a fun take on Hanukkah and finding your beshert at the right time.

I do not understand why Becca is such a doormat for her mother. (May be a cultural thing) I enjoyed her resolution in this HEA. Spencer is amazing. Very steamy with a lot of variety!

A fun story

Lots of Jewish mothers guilt, sexism to the extreme, looking for love in all the wrong places and a lasting friendship.
I may read this every Hanukkah.

I love that we are getting more Hanukkah stories each year!

Aiming to make her mother happy, Becca agrees to 8 dates during Hanukkah with the hopes that one of them she’ll like enough to bring to the family holiday party. She’s also hoping to make partner at her firm and denying her feelings for her friend Spencer, who is also her brother’s best friend.

The dates that Becca went on, some definitely veered into the crazy category and her mom was the absolute worst matchmaker! I enjoyed the secondary storyline of the discrimination that was happening to women at her firm and to see where that would lead for her. I kept hoping she would bail on her dates and meet up with Spencer instead, even though she had decent reasons for thinking why they couldn’t be together.

Thank you to Beth Gelman for a digital arc in exchange for an honest review.
