After I find my fiancé cheating, the last thing I expected was to move in with my summer camp rival, Benji Applebaum. He has a spare room, and at six months pregnant, I'm more than a little desperate. It's only supposed to be temporary.
Except Benji isn't the loud-mouthed jerk I knew growing up. He's a kind, gentle soul who says he wants to take care of me -- and my unborn baby.
He spoils me with presents for every night of Chanukah. He makes me feel special. Seen.
We're playing house for now, but it won't last forever. What happens when he realizes I'm more trouble than I'm worth?
I wanted this book to be longer! I did love the development of Benji and Estee's relationship, though. Also, the unplanned pregnancy trope is usually a do not pass go for me, but I didn't hate it in this instance based on how Lasky continued the story. I thought it was delightful and spicy, and I enjoyed Benji's thoughtfulness regarding Hanukkah. Cooking Hanukkah meals, lighting the menorah, and giving gifts were prominent, and I enjoyed that representation. Overall, it felt really quick, and I would have loved to get more into the characters and their motivations. This one was cute, and I appreciated the nod to the first book and its characters.
A great chanukah story. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters. You do not need to read the first one to read this one. The neurospicy representation was great. The spice was really fun too.
This was a very cute quick read Perfect for the Jewish holiday season as it is referenced in this book Pregnant FMC Friend from the past with a secret crush Front row seat as to how they navigate life together
This book is sweet, endearing and memorable. Benji and Estee are fascinating characters that one can’t help but want to know more about. As children, they were not friends, though he desperately wanted to be. In fact, he was a bit of a nuisance and bully because he didn’t know how to handle his crush on her. The grown up Benji is much different. He is kind, compassionate and rather protective of his unexpected new roommate. Seeing Estee again has brought those old feelings rushing back. Estee has just left an untenable situation with her now ex, is six months pregnant and needs a place to stay. Benji offers her not only a place to stay, but also his friendship. At first, they avoid each other, their feelings in turmoil and feeling very confused about the situation they find themselves at this point in their lives. They gradually become more comfortable around each other, and he does his best to make her feel comfortable and safe. As they let their guards down, their relationship gradually turns into so much more than friendship. They have few rough spots, but with the help of some very good friends, they finally see a future together.
I wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful, thoughtful book.
After catching her fiancé cheating, Estee calls her best friend to come pick her up. Without hesitation, he brings her back to Boston and has the perfect roommate for her? The problem - she's pregnant. The other problem? Benji, her new roommate, use to bully her as kids. Now that they're all grown up, Benji's viewpoint has changed, and he has to question how fast is too fast to fall in love with someone.
Allie has knocked it out of the park with this story once again! I absolutely love this world and group of friends. Allie does a fantastic job of representing minorities, mental health issues, and just general "realness". The characters in Twinkle are just incredibly relatable and I feel like we can all relate to at least someone in her writing.
I would recommend this book for someone looking for a short and sweet happy ending, those into some semi-forced/roommate romance, and those seeking a more realistically set of attractive main characters. I will also just say - read all of Allie's books! She has not let me down yet.
Estee comes home and find out her fiance has been cheating on her so she calls her best friend to come get her so she can run away to Boston. Her bestie comes to the rescue and then moves her into the room he recently vacated when he moved in with his fiance, coincidentally with the guy that has a crush on Estee since they were little kids at summer camp. Benji immediately tries to support her but doesn’t want to push the line when he knows she pregnant and vulnerable so they do the roommate thing until the years of tension break the romantic dam between them.
This was a real cute Chanukah novella. I wasn’t sure about the instalove but it was cute and he gave her space to develop a bit of a friendship first. Fun spice, totally made sense, the pregnancy hormones are realllll. Kind of amazing to have so much love for side characters in a novella but I want a book about all of them, especially Benji’s coworkers please!
I meant to read this "last year," but... just didn't. But I did manage to start the book on the 7th night of Chanukah and finish it the next morning. I loved it.
It felt shorter than Spark (#1 in the series) but was somehow longer? I'm not sure how that happens, but I didn't mind it.
The Insta-love vibes of this is IMMEDIATE, which is wild but so reassuring for the very pregnant MFC. And I have to admit, it was wonderful to read. Like, God willing, maybe love happens like that to the people that deserve it the most. Jewish representation was awesome. Difficult mothers without the long details of where the disconnect is. Like, sometimes it is what it is, let's not drag it all out when we have a love story (and some spice!) to read. No shame in the horny pregnant person game! It is, scientifically, totally a thing.
I'm obsessed with the world Allie has created. The glimpses we get of characters of other books just makes me smile and my heart so happy!
Estee and Benji stole my heart from.the jump!
Allie's take on pregnancy and parenting was refreshing to read because it aligned with my beliefs.
I was born at 26 weeks because my mom had preeclampsia. I experienced tachycardia and fainting when I was pregnant with Baby Bookworm. The things we do to bring forth new life is wild. Reading Estee's difficulties made me emotional because I know what that's like.
My favorite thing about this book is how amazing Benji is as a partner and how he supports her.
Twinkle is book two of the Light My Candle Series.
Benji and Estee were super cute together. I really liked seeing the inner thoughts of Benji and seeing how he has always felt about Estee. She is really unsure of her feelings and emotions, but since Benji is such a sweetheart he has a way of winning her over and getting her to acknowledge how she truly feels. I loved how caring and considerate he was. This made me really like seeing how the story unfolded as the characters were both great.
It was a quick read, but I felt I got enough information and storyline to make it enjoyable.
This was a short and super sweet holiday romance. I loved how Estee and Benji were thrown together by their friends, but it turned out to be a good move. He's dedicated to her and her baby from the get-go. Benji just has to convince Estee that he's all in. She's guarded after her experiences, but Benji knows just how to help. They have an adorable dynamic with mutual respect and equal partnership. I loved how he went above and beyond to make her feel welcome and accepted her no questions asked. This is a perfect read for a little holiday cheer.
Estee and Benji’s story is so sweet. They met as summer camp as children, and Benji always liked her. He just didn’t know how to show it, so Estee thought the opposite. They come back together as adults after Estee leaves her abusive jerk of a fiancée. Benji offers his spare room to her and discovers that his feelings for her, and her unborn baby, are as strong as they ever were. He just had to convince Estee of them. Sweet, romantic, and a little spicy. Loved it!
This was such a great read! Estee was in a relationship that went south, needing to ge out of dodge she ends up staying with a friend of a friend. That person (Benji) used to have a crush on Estee as a kid who didn’t treat Estee the greatest. It was fun to read about their relationship going from virtually strangers (since it’s been so long) to so much more.
I loved how their relationship unfolded! This was a great read and I hope you check it out.
I love stumbling upon sweet stories that build into beautiful little worlds. This is book two in a series and I loved this one almost as much as the first. Following characters introduced in 'Spark' this story is such a sweet little love story. I love when he falls first. All he wants to do is take care of her and I think that is just so sweet. Again with the diverse representation. I look forward to reading more by this Author!
Even though what Estee had to go through to get her happy ending, it was such a cute story. Everyone deserves a Benji. He is so caring and wants to just make sure she is good throughout the whole story. Doing anything and everything to make sure she is comfortable. I absolutely loved this story and thought it was very adorable.
Cute story but I feel like it was the same thing as the hockey novella I just read except the mfc in this was pregnant. Benji was super sweet and the characters were cute together
Estee and Benji’s story is about finding your person even when you don’t think you’re looking for them. These two knew each other when they were kids and Benji had a crush on her. Now they are getting a chance. She is pregnant and has left the neglectful baby daddy. He has a place for her to stay and wants to help. You just need to read this and get drawn into their journey. Romantic, sweet with some spice. Enjoy
This was a super cute holiday (Chanukah ) read. Fast paced, can be read as a standalone but I also recommend reading the other books! Definitely recommend ☺️
