Rate this book
Mackenzie thought she could finally breathe after escaping the Governments clutches—but fate has other plans.

After being held captive and tortured for months, Mackenzie is finally home. But her peace is shattered when Master Dagmar asks for her help. Children are still going missing, and the Task Force created to stop these abductions is hitting road bumps at every turn.

With her powerful mate by her side, she must track down the Rogue, a monster vampire crazed from drinking supernatural blood.

Their hunt leads them to the Warrens, the vampire city below GreenRiver. Where they delve deep into the world of the undead. Together, Lucan and Mackenzie must stop the Rogue before more young lives are lost.

With their relationship still forming, can Lucan and Mackenzie strengthen their bond enough to finally overcome their foe? Or will the trauma of the past be the catalyst that tears them apart?

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

DNF

Another liked series bites the dust!

I was willing to overlook bad editing of this series because I liked the story and I thought the characters interesting enough and hoped they'd grow out of the stuff I found annoying.

Main reason DNF = the 'love interest' Lucan. I'd never been that keen on him, though if memory serves I liked him better in the last book.
Second reason = MC is a doormat re LI, what he wants, he gets. (Plus I'm not finding other of her reactions believable - see spoiler.)

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: No

Would you recommend?: No

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

I honestly didn't remember much from the previous books since it's been a lot of books in between, but I enjoyed this addition to the series when considering the plot and story development on its own. Apparently we're still not done with their journey and more books are still to come. /o/

I really enjoyed this latest book in this series. Mackenzie Green is a very intriguing character, with a very dangerous and traumatic past, one which still affects her day to day, but one she is trying desperately to deal with.

After the events of the last book, she is finally home with her family. Lucan, her dragon shifter mate, has taken things into his own hands and has provided for both her and her younger siblings the best way he knows how. I do think he comes across as very domineering at times, not giving Mackenzie the time and space that she needs to readjust to life outside of her cell and abuse. She has had a lot to deal with and although physically she might be ok, mentally she is far from it! That girl needs some therapy!

Both Mackenzie and Lucan take on a case involving the vampires who are feeding on supernatural children. Will they find the leader before any more are taken? Will they be able to work alongside the vampire council to find those behind it all?

I loved the idea of the vampire underground world and loved Dagmar's role in this case. He seemed much more comfortable in his own surroundings and was much less aloof this time round! I also loved the introduction of new characters and meeting the old ones again too.

Looking forward to reading the next book in this series and I hope this next one will see Mackenzie feeling stronger and more balanced within herself and Lucan being less dominant and controlling! I can't wait to find out what happens next with Tyr as well as his traumatic episode could go either way really!

I loved it! This is one of my favorite series and a definite pre-order. Mackenzie's family and friends step up and let her rest a bit after her last ordeal and amazingly she allows it. For a little while anyway. The work getaway with Lucan was just what they needed. That cottage is a dream! Excellent author.

This author is now my new addiction!;;;

Please quit your day job and just write me more amazing stories!!

I have waited so so long for the 4th book in this series I really started to doubt it ever get made. But thank god that is not the case.

I read hundreds of thousands of books a year. With reading so many books you will find yourself just reading so so blah books until one of your favorites finally put out another book. I'm so happy that I've found a new favorite! Her characters are deep and have dark pasts. For some reason I love that about characters I read. The way this author shows the struggle and the characters growth is so realistic. They may slip into closing up after making so much progress of letting people in and to me that is so relatable than characters completely shifting who they are with the snap of a finger.

I love that the main feeling throughout the book is family. Whether its with Mackenzie's guild, the family she chose or the other friends along the way. They are all extremely loyal and supportive of each other. To me that's how we as people should be. I love how bad a$$ the amazing characters are even when they really don't want to hurt anyone if they don't have to. Also the way her characters search for the funny in the deep pit of darkness they all swallowed in is so relatable and definitely I've done numerous of times. You will be extremely entertained by so many characters you won't be able to put the book down. I know ask my poor suffering husband and kids lol.

I am really hoping this author has more series available!!!

Loved it!

I read all four books in the series over the last 3 days, and I love this series. I really was not sure I would when I chose to read green gryphon.
The only reason I gave this 4 instead of 5 stars is because there needed to be a cleaner wrap-up and some sort of foreshadowing as part of a cliffhanger. So, I do agree with other reviewers that the books need a better ending and a better segue into the next book. Another reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the misspelling of words throughout. Though not many, it throws me off just a bit when I have to figure what the word was supposed to be. For instance, a name having the c replaced by an x. The repetition bothered me too. There were more than several times we were reminded of what happened in previous books (which is not necessarily a bad thing but it's just details I skipped over when I was annoyed with it) and even new details were constantly being explained, along with the background information being repeated throughout each book. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I just get annoyed with too much repetition. I would also love a release date for Green Dragon as the final book in the series.
All in all, this is a great series with only minor annoyance at a few minor things. It grabs your attention fairly quickly, and you'll feel invested in this little family throughout. I'm looking forward to reading the final book in the series and am hopeful that all the loose ends will be wrapped up with a neat little bow by the end.

Astounding! JS Kennedy’s writing keeps getting better and better. This book takes us to the underground world of the vampires in Green River, and it’s a thrill. The world-building is terrific – Green River below ground is very different from above ground. I was so impressed by the logical thought that realized vampires, as a large group, would likely go underground and build their houses into the base rock. I’ve never seen this created before, but it made total sense as a light-proof, easily defendable location. Now Kenzie and Lucan have to penetrate this usually off-limits underground city to hunt a rogue vampire who has been kidnapping children.

The new characters are wonderful, so fully created and individual. But my favorite part was getting to catch up with the old characters. I’m so happy to see what has been going on in their lives and relationships. It was thrilling to watch Mackenzie start to let down her walls with Lucan and see how their relationship deepened. Her wariness, and caution about letting others in has been one of the most realistic and understandable parts of her character, and seeing her become more open and willing to love has been beautiful.

self care
In Green Vampire, following the trauma of book 3, Mackenzie has realized that she must start taking care of herself in addition to her family. She's also beginning to accept GreenRiver as her home and not simply a temporary stopover.

Mackenzie and Lucan work well together on a Catch & Release assignment and as they do she tries to lower her shields that are keeping her bond with Lucan at bay. I like watching the development of their relationship and it's slow-going, but that's to be expected considering where they started.

I did feel like the book was longer than it needed to be. Additionally, there were some areas that would've benefited from some (or more?) editing. But, I continue to enjoy the series, the characters (new and OG) and seeing the growth in each. I'm interested to see what becomes of Tyr/Guardian and others, so I will be continuing with the series. I like how, at the end, the author notes she's working on her growth as a writer. I'm hoping that the story and editing will continue to improve as she perfects her skill.

Hey there! I wanted to share this amazing book with you. It's called "Mackenzie's Redemption: A Thrilling Vampire Tale." This captivating novel delves into themes of escape, redemption, and the enduring power of love.

The story follows Mackenzie as she escapes from the government's clutches and joins Master Dagmar to investigate missing children with the help of her powerful mate, Lucan. Set in the vampire world, the plot takes the readers to the enigmatic city beneath GreenRiver called the Warrens.

The novel also focuses on the beautiful but complex relationship between Mackenzie and Lucan as they navigate their shared experiences and confront their past traumas. The author does an excellent job of portraying their love and vulnerabilities.

This book is packed with fast-paced action and engaging character development that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It's a thrilling read!

Great Read!

Mackenzie was an orphan experimented on and was physically and mentally abused by a branch of the government dealing with the Supernatural. This agency killed thousands of children trying to create supernatural beings they can control. She became one of there most successful experiment. She was used as an assassin and was feared by all. Until she was able to escape with other children like her. They became her family. She was mother and elder sister to them. Protecting her family came first. Supporting her family as a hunter was second. Mackenzie was a great influence to all around her. Doing what's right was most important to her, even with her snark. Her brand of Justice is righteous even though I think She should do more and be a tiny bit selfish.

An Intentionally Muted Sequel

Not 5-star by intent of the author. The main character grows and story arc mysteries progress toward solutions. But this sequel is one dominated by crippling mental-emotional struggles and confusions on the road to recovery from the events of the previous book in series. These family problems naturally lead to short choppy action and lots mental fogginess on the part of main characters.

Overall the author's desire to communicate the correct muddled mental landscapes are is well done - but limits the overall story quality to 4 star for most people. It appears that the personal confused mental thrashings of those characters are largely over for most main characters bythe end of this book - meaning a far less muddled 5 star experience should return in the next book in the series.

so happy!

I liked the first book in this series from the first time I read it. S o much so, that I read it 2 or 3 more times before deciding to simply buy it. Then, I bought all the others. This series is engrossing, fast paced without feeling hurried, and humorous without detracting from the seriousness of each book's story. Totally worth reading many times as I pick new details out of each book that relate to the series arc each time I do. Plus there's the MC's (male and female's) relationship that is so sweet and real to life that it makes me want to see this on a big screen. It just comes alive when you read it! You're sucked in and left going, "That's it? Give me more! I need to know what happens next." You won't be disappointed.

best book yet

Hands down this is the best book in the series so far ! I dunno why I thought the last book was the completion of this series when so much was left undone and said but to my delight and surprise I saw this book recently released and after doing a much needed reread I devoured this book it picks up right where we left off . While the last book was dual pov with Lucan and kenize separated this one is only from McKenzie POV I love seeing everyone again learning more about Dagmar and his vampires and seeing the relationship bloom between McKenzie and Lucan and I love how much as a character they have each grown I’m so excited for the next book can’t wait for jasper to get what’s coming to him !!

Next fantastic instalment!

Sharing a bond that connected them, Mackenzie and Lucan were ready to start the next chapter in their life together in a new home, with family close by. However,
there was a rogue in their midst who was targeting children and this, together with a potential coup, needed their joint powers to irradicate.
Book 4 in this incredible series proved to be just as enthralling and captivating as the rest. Brilliantly written with plenty of twists and turns, as more pieces of the jigsaw come together the two conquer evil and slowly their bond strengthens. Great, well developed characters form this imaginative and creative saga, definitely a page turner, can't wait for the next one. Great job!

This book recaptured the magic of the series. The romance took a backseat to the further development of the plot. In fact, this felt very PG. I’m okay with it because Mackenzie has to deal with addressing a ton of accumulated trauma first.

I have to admit that I had forgotten a lot of details about the third book, but I did recall being annoyed by Lucan. While I’m still not really convinced by their mate bond (or chemistry if we’re being honest), I do think they make a good team of hunters. I’m hoping that this series doesn’t drag on beyond the next book, however, although there are many open plot threads. I’d be more okay if the non-Purity plot lines (eg Suit and the government breeding program, Tyr’s powers, etc) were addressed in a spinoff series.

Really enjoyed this, however.

good

I was excited to read this book when it first came out because I love Mackenzie and Lucan. I was tempted to start the end of the last book over again because I couldn’t quite remember what it happened to Mackenzie. Throughout this book, Mackenzie was slowly getting over her fear of the bond between her and Lucan. I like how the author described the bond between those two and how Mackenzie was trying to get the bond to open. There was definitely a lot of hunting in here and trying to find rogue vampires that have killed or kidnapped shifter children. I can’t wait to see what comes next in this series.

rushing

This had many story lines coming together for one main storyline since we needed to take down a main villain. The romance seems very rushed with the bond. There seems to be no time with the couple and all of a sudden they have a full bond. I just don’t see it happening it that way. I am thrown off this story. This should have been drawn out not done quickly. I was disappointed that there was no care given between the couple. I was also missing the family development with her being home and getting that new family bond initiative started again.

I enjoyed this. Book 2 is definitely still my favorite but this was a solid continuation of the series. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. The characters can be a bit much sometimes but they are still very entertaining and fun overall. I enjoyed Mackenzie and Lucan solidifying their relationship. Seeing more of Master Dagmar and other vampires was also a high point. I am very much looking forward to the last book in the series when it gets released.

Good stuff- another part of the puzzle complete.

As always, it's a great story, and I can't wait for the next instalment. I love the Welsh elements and history in this book. I was dying for the relationship of Kenzie and lucan to cement and feel there's more to come... I also want to know where the master vampires seen a partial change of a mythos shifter like lucan... I need the story behind that too. I'm ready for the next book already.

This was an amazing way to get back in touch with Mackenzie, Lucan, and the rest of the extended family. Kenzie is working through all of her new trauma but she is ready to be back at work. Lucan is her new partner and it helps them rebuild their bond.

Someone is kidnapping children, there is a rogue vampire, and a case is just what the two lifers need.

Excellent story telling and world. I'm always happy to return to it

Could have done with about 100 fewer pages. Still having issues with editing. Like, significant issues. Though the books seem to get better in this regard as we go along, I don't understand how shit like this can end up out there for public consumption. I don't see editors credited specifically, but the opening thanks "my editors," which leads me to believe there was at least one editor. At least spell your own character names right.

Great series!

First of all, this series is amazing. Secondly, I eagerly await the next in series. Finally, wow! What a fitting book for the vampire friend in very high places. Dagmar is an awesome ally. Well, Jasper and his purity movement are hard at work poisoning all the minds. Children are disappearing and Master Dagmar needs Catch and Release and Kenzie and Lucan's assistance. Where this leads them is a dark place for sure. Great book, engrossing and engaging.

Love this series

Unique, entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable. Loved the first three in the series and have periodically checked for a new release and finally was rewarded. Well worth the wait. The story line is imaginative and the characters endearing. Can't wait for the next one, hopefully not too long!

Amazing series

This author's creativity and world building are astounding. She's taken care to develop layers to the characters that make them immensely interesting. This one is easily in my top 5 series out of hundreds, if not thousands. And even more impressive is that she's a part-time author with a demanding career. Bravo!

Loves a hero

Came late to this author and story arc, I have just binge read the four books, I couldn't put them down, loved the stories, not at all predictable as I sometimes can see the outcome in books this was not the case here well worth reading . I cannot well read the next instalment.
