This is an interesting cozy mystery. The suspects are not guilty. The actual killer is not a suspect. I borrowed this book from KindleUnlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book.
Dreams of Stardom; Lying Suspects; and a Scheming Murderer!
"Dreams and Schemes" is Book 14 of A Hope Herring Mystery series, written by J. A. Whiting. This is one of my to favorite series, written by my favorite cozy mystery writer. There were several technical and grammatical errors in this episode, which is why I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5. However, the plot was really good, with several subplots interleaved into the book. Main plot was discovering who murdered two of the characters in the book. That plot interleaved with a subplot of daughter Cori trying out for a Disney musical in Florida. Another subplot was the resident ghost, Max, and his online book editing jobs, even to the job of translating Hindi into English. Max not only ghost edits online for a hefty fee, he also protects Hope and Cori from people who would hurt or kill them. There is a mixture of scenes at the middle school where Hope teaches, the bakery where she bakes cakes on Saturdays, taking Cori to singing lessons, and investigating murder suspects while in the company of Detective Robinson at the police station, or while by herself. I gave the book 4 stars, but I still loved the entire plot. I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
Cori gets a call for a Disney audition. Cori says they need to go to Norrie's house. They find blood, Norrie hit her head but is in hospital, Hope meets Pam at hospital. Pam asks to meet Hope tells her about missing funds. Gerald came to see her about some funds missing and her signature was on some of the fraudulent checks. While she and Gerald were examining the records, Pam says she was on vacation when they were signed by the electronic system. The money is wired to the payee directly. Gerald found out that she is listed as the owner on the fake accounts. Pam asks Hope for help. Detective Robinson has no problem with her helping. Max has decided to write a book. Gerald is found dead from a fentanyl overdose with a suicide note. Detective Robinson calls to tell Hope it was murder, fentanyl was found in his prescription bottle, the color was different but Gerald was color blind. A really good who done it with lots of possible murderers.
Excellent as Always AND Managing to GET EVEN BETTER!
J A Whiting outdoes herself! Upward and onward! Not only does Hope have a new mystery on her hands 2x, Cori's Dreams are beginning to come true...maybe...
Well Cory goes to Hollywood what fun this will be. I hope this continues in another book. And I must have missed when the ghost was able to lift heavy objects. Which book is that in. Hmmm 🤔
I chose this rating because I like the content and the series. It is good to keep up with everything from the beginning to the end. I would recommend this series and I have to anyone who loves series. This is great. This is good read.
