I have one goal. To be drafted into the NHL and make my father proud. I've never been interested in dating, not when all of my spare time is spent at the rink perfecting my craft. There's no time for distractions. I can't afford them.
But she came out of nowhere. Octavia Layton, the girl with the pretty smile and the broken heart. One night spent talking beneath the stars and now she won't get out of my head.
I never expected to see her again, but now she's here in this new city, with ties to my new team, and I don't think I'm strong enough to fight against her pull.
AVA I hate hockey players. After a nasty breakup, I've sworn them all off for good. Or so I thought.
We met when I had puffy eyes and a broken heart, but I didn't know who he was until he shows up in my city months later as a new member of our local hockey team. The sweet guy who so easily made the ache in my chest go away with lame jokes and a swoon-worthy smile is here, and he wants me.
Despite everything I said I wouldn't do, I can't seem to stay away from him. But dating a future NHL player isn't the life I imagined for myself, and as things keep going wrong, I'm starting to wonder if maybe the best-made plans aren't always the ones you expect.
Hannah is a twenty-something-year-old indie author from Western Canada. Obsessed with swoon-worthy romance, she decided to take a leap and try her hand at creating stories that will have you fanning your face and giggling in the most embarrassing way possible. Hopefully, that’s exactly what her stories have done!
Hannah loves to hear from her readers, and can be reached on any of her social media accounts.
Edit Oct 9: Rereleased end of September with major plot changes and editing. If you are reading an illegal copy of this book on Z-library or any similar sites, you are reading the OLD original version of this story. How to tell if your version is updated? The story should now begin like this:
~ I need a shower. Desperately. Before I pass out from a mix of overexertion and dehydration and end up needing my ass carried to the dressing room.~
If you have had Lucky Hit downloaded prior to rerelease and have returned it prior, kindle unlimited does not update for you. Please reach out to me on Instagram if that is the case 💗
Original: I wrote this book, not knowing how much I was going to enjoy writing. This is my first ever story, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. It may be a bit rough around the edges to some, but I am so proud of what I accomplished with Oakley and Ava ❤️
don’t know why but this book took me too long to finish. felt like there was too much going on and it was just too insta love for me, even if they had cute moments. tbh i’m more excited to read about tyler’s and gracie’s book since i liked them more and who doesn’t love a brother best friend trope?
Unfortunately, this book felt like reading multiple unfinished ideas. The synopsis was misleading. I’m not sure what trope to categorize this under and there were way too many things going on that didn’t go anywhere:
1. There was an ex-boyfriend who caused some kind of trauma to Ava, but we never find out what
2. There was a birth mother who pops up but there’s no real storyline or resolution there
3. There’s his family that he’s worried about but they are actually fine and doing well
4. There’s a friend who is secretly in love with Ava but that plot leads nowhere
5. There’s his career that worries her with regards to distance, fame and girls, but that is glossed over in an end chapter that feels like an epilogue
Too many plots started, nothing finished. I didn’t even feel the chemistry between Oakley and Ava. They just suddenly were dating. It was very bizarre.
Normally I love hockey romances… but this one did not have high enough stakes for me. I needed dirtier and a little more emotion so I DNF’ed at 30%. This is the FIRST hockey romance to let me down! 😩😩
lord how i've hated this book. there was SO much miscommunication between the two mcs, there was barely any chemistry, both of them were so annoying and the plot was nowhere to be seen. the insta love also made it even worst; fifteen chapters in they were already together????? they won't make it past three years, mark my words. will i still read blissful hook just for gracie and tyler tho? absolutely xx
Oakley and Ava's story was sweet. I really liked both characters and their friend group, but for some reason this one was just missing something for me. I can't put my finger on it. I enjoyed it, but I wanted to love it.

“I think I’ve made a mistake by not being more honest with you,” he starts, his voice no more than a husky whisper. “About what?” “I like you, Ava. Enough that the sight of you wearing another guy’s clothes makes me see red.”
oakley and ava forever 🫶
I absolutely ate this book UP. The two of them meet at a party one night and feel a connection, but then they go their separate ways. Then the end up in the same friend group a few months later and slowly get to know each other better and fall into an easy friendship. But when Oakley finally cracks?! UGHHH. I’m obsessed.
This book is full of amazing side characters and I’m SO happy I have the rest of the series to binge. Hannah’s found family is perfection. The relationships between not only the couple but also the side characters? I loved.
I loved Oakley sm. Hannah writes obsessive men perfectly. And AVA!!!!! Her journey? I loved it. She’s adopted and is dealing with the dynamics between finding her biological mom and how that impacts her and her family. The emotions I felt while reading were 🥹
I read this in a mix of audio and physical and the audio was so so good.
Read if you like ✨ hockey romance ✨ strangers to friends to lovers ✨ found family ✨ a guy obsessed
TW Parental death (historical, but some grief is present)
A very cute sports romance with no third act break-up.
Barely any plot, very much a character driven book. I wasn't completely interested in our two main characters so I did struggle with this book at times.
However, it sets up the rest of the series nicely and I'm intrigued enough to continue on.
The hockey romance girlies who love very sweet romances would probably enjoy this!
I’m normally not a new adult romance fan, but this one was so sweet and easy to read! Lucky Hit follows Oakley, a hockey player with his sights on the big leagues, and Ava, a college student who is rightfully jaded towards dating athletes.
Oakley and Ava meet one night at Oakley’s going away party as he transitions to the minor leagues. Oakley isn’t in the party mood, and Ava had just caught her boyfriend cheating. They end up talking for hours before going their separate ways.
Several months later, Ava and her best friend (who are in their second year of university) are at a hockey game. Ava and Oakley are both surprised when they recognize each other. Turns out they share a mutual friend group that brings them back into each other’s orbit. And Oakley isn’t letting her go this time.
This was so well written. It started off a little slow, but once the story picked up, I was in love. Both Ava and Oakley have gone through a lot and both deserve an HEA. You could see their connection grow as the book went on and I was rooting for them when they took their relationship to the next level!!
The friend group is amazing!!! I can’t wait to read their books. Definitely check this out if you want a new adult, hockey romance that will absolutely make you melt!
TROPES: athlete hero (hockey - set in Canada); sweetest meet cute; new adult; cinnamon roll hero
TRIGGER WARNINGS: heroine was in foster care; death of a parent (not on page, just discussed)
This was... okay? Definitely a insta love (I used to love that ig from reading wattpads but now I love a good slow burn). Took me a lil longer than I thought to finish. I do agree with reviews saying they didn't connect with it. Also the fact that we didn't get a proposal yet? Like the author wrote them practically dating 5 chapters in but we can't get a proposal epiloge. This felt scripted in a way (I hope that makes sense) There was practically one smut scene (bit disappointed) and it was mid. (He called her g spot a sponge like wall....) I'm honestly more interested in Gracie and Tyler tbh. To me the book felt too safe. Not in like a comforting way but in a low key boring way. Overall eh.
I loveddddddddd this book. Hockey college romance? Count me in. I love how miss author Hannah broke so many stereotypes. Oakley wasn't the normal captain of the hockey team that sleeps around 24/7 and Octavia was so so so strong and independent which I loved. I really liked that it was 'a faster paced' book to what I usually read and once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. Miss Hannah made us understand each side, so I couldn't really be mad at any of the characters. And TYLER and ADAM!!!! omfg. I love them so much. Literally can't wait to read there book. I can't wait for the rest of the series to come out. I'm impatient. BuT ADAM. GUYS ADAM IS UGH I LOVE HIM. anyways read it, trust me!
I don't think I'll ever get over this book. I finished it in a day and I'm about to read it again. It's amazing whenever I find a character that relates to me in some ways. I fell in love with both of them instantly. The Romance is amazing and the Writing is just perfect ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I can't wait for the other books in the series ❤️
Such a feel good book and will definitely be a comfort book for me that I read over and over again. I love this type of genre, and it's hard not to fall in love with all the characters in this book. The romance between the main characters is heartwarming and the way the book is written feels like you're actually in the book experiencing what they are in that moment. Amazing book and amazing writing.
i really enjoyed this book . ugh oakley and ava 😩 it felt just a tiny bit strange because i had read the second generation book about their kids prior to this lol but it’s definitely my fault. i absolutely love how oakley handled the situations and the book also delved into some issues with the foster system within canada
I like have nothing to say about this. It was rlly boring idk. 2.4 stars. Only a little drama at the end but I wish it was better. They’re cute at least.
So booktok led me a little astray with this one tbh. I like the concept but I think how to put it best that I saw on another review is its a little too insta love for me. It felt like there wasn't a lot of build up, like they were instantly together and in love after meeting like 4 times, which is fine, its just not my cup of tea. I also felt like instead of Canadian, Oakley was southern like. I like his manners but felt like I could hear this country accent the whole time. It did help that I pictured him like Charlie baker from cheaper by the dozen 😋 I may read Gracie /Tyler because I think the build up will be better and the best friends brother trope is a good one, however I dont find Oakley and Tyler to be THAT close like his hometown friend that has been mentioned as his best friend multiple times. I really got myself in this web because of the book coming out in January that would be Oakley and Ava's son
EDIT: apparently I read the old versions that’s why it didn’t make sense, and it has been released since. However then you have to buy the book and I’m not willing to do that
I genuinely think this book was written by a 12-year-old who has never been in a relationship or talk to a guy. It was so unbelievably cringe that it actually hurt my soul to read, half of it, and took me way longer than normal, because I couldn’t stand to read the horrid writing. There was also about six pots going on at once, but none of them got resolved in a timely manner, and the timeline of the book was so weird and you just jump forward without any kind of warning or tell, so you were just confused for so long before you realised that there wasn’t a misprint you just genuinely don’t understand the book because it doesn’t make sense. Also, it’s ice hockey and the author did not do their research on ice hockey and it’s very obvious Genuinely do not read this book
These two were cute only a little spice, but it’s okay because something was constantly happening, so I didn’t feel myself growing bored, I love how Oakley made sure Ava was assured knowing her experiences. I wanted to hug Oakley, he had me ready to cry whenever he brought up his father. I’m so glad he got his happily ever after in the end. That being said, I’m so freaking excited about Adam’s book! That man stole my heart in the first couple of chapters.
“The only thing I can focus on is Ava. On the love in her eyes and the near suffocating feeling of obsession I feel for her. This isn’t soft or gentle. It’s intense and overwhelmingly intoxicating. She’s giving everything to me, and I’m taking just as much as I’m giving back. This girl is my world, my sun and fucking stars. She has me all of me in the palm of her hands, and I don’t think she even realizes it.”
Omg this was the first time I got around to reading the republished version since it was released and I loved it!!🥹❤️ I loved the version before but the changes within this one stuck with me! The way Ava and Oakley met in the beginning chapters was to die for!! Their chemistry, their love for one another was so so adorable!! Such a good book!! I’m so glad I read it again!!❤️
