While her sisters fought hard to keep the café alive, Ruby Finch had her eye on becoming the town librarian. It took a death for that to come about which wasn’t ideal.
Now she's helping her fiancé with his new diner, the site of a murder and then arson, and wondering why bad things keep happening.
When she finds a note with a plea for help, Ruby can’t agree with the sheriff that it is a hoax or a joke. Thankfully her sisters trust her intuition. The three of them dig deep into a rich family’s history knowing it isn’t welcome.
Knowing it could be very dangerous.

C. A. Phipps is a USA Today best-selling author from beautiful New Zealand. Cheryl lives in a quiet suburb with her wonderful husband of more than four decades.
With a large family to keep her busy when she's not writing, there is just enough space for a crazy mixed breed dog who stole her heart!
She enjoys family times, baking, rambling walks, and her quest for the perfect latte.
We finally have a cozy mystery from Ruby's perspective! Ruby is a small-town librarian who stumbles across a mystery when she receives a large donation of books to her library. She is sorting through the books when a mysterious note falls out of one. The note leads her to believe that someone was held against their will in the manor where the books were originally kept.
This wonderful book follows Ruby as she tries to convince her sisters, the sheriff, and her fiance that this mystery is worth solving even though it isn't clear whether the note-writer is still alive. Ruby is such a kind-hearted woman so she simply must do everything in her power to find out the story behind the note and to help the writer if they have survived.
As a bonus, there is a pumpkin pie recipe at the end of the book- yum!
I hope we get more Ruby in future installments in the Cozy Cafe series!
Ruby Finch is the librarian in her small town. She has sisters Violet and Scarlett. While looking at some donated books from an estate a note falls out asking for help as they are being held against their will. With no way of knowing how old the note is Ruby can’t resist investigating. Her and her two sisters believe the writer was Meredith and Ruby feels she must find out about her.
It was a great book. I could not put it down. I highly recommend it.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving an honest opinion and review voluntarily.
Deadly Desserts is a seriously twisted, very intriguing, cozy mystery. I love the series and these sisters. After find a note that is a plea for help, Ruby feels compelled to investigate. The note does not provide a date, a name or anything that would really help Ruby find the sender. I was completely engaged in this mystery before the end of the second page. I ignored everything around me until I reached the end! Ms. Phipps has once again created an excellent story.
I've enjoyed the cozy mysteries featuring the Finch sisters. This time it's mild mannered librarian Ruby who's taking the lead. When mysterious notes are uncovered in old books donated to the library, she just can't let it rest until she discovers who was desperate for help. Plenty of drama with some danger thrown in for good measure. Evil where you least expect it and help in unexpected places end with another mystery solved.
It was good to see Ruby take the lead in this mystery. Some old books and a couple of notes sets you on your way to a solving a mystery. A house for sale leads to more clues that someone is trying to keep secret. Who knows what is going on and how can Ruby convince them to tell the secret so that others can be protected. A great read full of suspense and mystery, Ruby and her sisters help to find the truth even if the sheriff isn’t convinced there is a mystery to solve.
Ruby has taken the lead in this book and wants to find the truth. Of course her sisters are there to help her solve the mystery and keep her out of trouble. Or will they get in trouble with her? The mystery was unique and I loved it. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
Another fantastic book by Cheryl Phipps! Mystery is a magnet to the Finch sisters and they just can't say no. Loved reading this from Ruby's perspective. When mysterious notes appear in old books given to the library, Ruby tries to do her own investigation on the origins .
This is a mystery that intrigues you, baffles you and draws you in. There is so much human interest that it gives the story depth and character. This is a story I truly enjoyed reading.
