Melinoë, Goddess of Nightmares and Ghosts, mysteriously spawned from the deepest pits of Tartarus, spent centuries barely surviving and enduring torture in the Underworld. Now she spends her life teetering on the brink of insanity and clinging to reality. After one fateful night in a nightclub with her best friend, Persephone, Melinoë gains a stalker in the form of the Titan of the Sun.
The Daydream…
Helios, Titan of the Sun, became instantly obsessed with the little gothic Goddess of Nightmares the second she knocked him out after their tryst in the club bathroom. Since then, he has shined for her and her alone. But war is here, and Helios has some big decisions to make regarding which side he will fight for. Will he choose love or his family?
Some Opposites Should Not Cross Paths…
When tragedy strikes, Melinoë has to use her abilities to bridge the gap between her friends. The problem? Every time she does, she is pushed closer to the edge of complete insanity. Mellie would rather dive headfirst into the River Styx than admit that the only person able to pull her from the deepest recesses of her mind is the one person she can’t stand. Will Melinoë allow herself to open up to the Titan of the Sun? Will Helios choose to fight alongside his family or stand by his friends?
4.5 ⭐️ The Goddess of Nightmares fully deserves the Simp King... ehem, I mean, the Sun Titan.
So this was not dark AT ALL. I was worried about nothing (again). This was just cute, cute, cute! A little murder-y, but like picture Harley Quinn. That's the kind of murder-y, cute Melinoë is. She is amazing. And Helios is just a simp. Like picture the most simpering golden retriever that you can, then multiply it by ten, then square that to like a thousand, and you'll get close to where Helios is in the Simp Scale - idk maths are hard.
Full RTC, but omg this was so good! I loved them both!
TW for blood and knife play. Ups ok I just wrote that and mayyyybe is a slightly bit dark. But like not really, I promise!
Esperaba mucho esta pareja pero al final siento que solamente los utilizaron para hacer smut y echaron a perder una buena dinámica de pareja. Una pena porque realmente disfruté de los demás libros de la saga.
''If you lose yourself to your darkness, take me with you. I would rather live in madness with you than in sanity with anyone else.''
Thank you Jeanette Rose, Alexis Rune and Rose & Star, for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts are my own and left voluntarily.
Even though authors mention that this can be read as a standalone, I would say - read it in tandem (I did). It's because, if I would be a new reader who picked up just this novella, I would be little bit confused by the pacing and overall events. Plus, I would need a better backstory of them. More polished starts and ends of chapters, let's say.
Overall, I really enjoyed diving into both of their minds! After a while, I grew biiiiit tired of hellcat's remarks towards certain sunboy, but whatever. Yet at the same time, I laughed of their digs towards each other. Go figure lol
Helios is absolutely obsessed with Mel. Has already plans for them and their future, while Mel is well.. Mel. Her insults have the opposite effect on Helios haha And when they get frisky, they can be unhinged - lot's of purring, moaning, being stabby, the 'M' thing, paintball etc. They are so bad (right) for each other!
''Fuck, slap me, hellcat.'' His groan is guttural, and I know he is just as feral for me as I am for him.
''I fucking hate you,'' I growl, slapping him hard across the face. Helio's answering moan is the reward I didn't know I needed...''
TW - violence, self harm, alcohol and drug abuse, portrayals of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, child abandonment / neglect (past)
CW - blood play, somnophilia, primal play, exhibitionism, knife play incl branding, impact play (spanking / slapping), restraints, pain play (incl biting and scratching), breath play , public play
Tropes - hate sex, they tend to each other's wounds, novella, grumpy x sunshine, fantasy, greek mythology
Mellinoë (FMC) is the Goddess of Nightmares and Ghosts and we meet her and Helios (MMC) in The Maiden & The Unseen. I would say that this is a bit longer than a novella and i personally feel like you should defo read it as a tandem read for it to have the best impact and mesh with the story the best.
Mellie's powers mean that she suffers from what can be attributed to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Mellie goes back and forth about what she wants from Helios and it tracks for her character but I will say that it kinda got boring after a while; I just wanted her to make a decision. I liked that Helios didn't bow down to her back and forth
All in all, they were hot and got their HEA. My fav parts were Helios reassuring Mellie that he's not going anywhere and that he can be her rock and that doesn't make her weak
Scale: ⭐️ - would've DNF'ed / continued out of spite ⭐️⭐️ - shit, but whatever ⭐️⭐️⭐️ - meh, could've been better ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - lit 👅 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - loved it, inject this shit into my veins 🤪
🫑 - no smut 🌶 - no point 🌶🌶 - mediocre at best 🌶🌶🌶 - standard smut, hot 🌶🌶🌶🌶 - 🥵 okay, some CW 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 - fuck me 🥵🥵 CWs / filthy with a side of filth - see Poison / Room Twenty-Two: Hide and Seek/ The Naughty List
I know this isn’t a five star read but it’s definitely better to me when I compare it to the first three books about hades and Persephone
Might be because it’s off the original Greek mythology tales and is giving a different new couple vibe though: Unhinged goth staby FMC and supper into it obsessed MMC
I like how they where shown throughout the main books of the series, it made me very drawn to them and I loved that for sure. However I wished this book could have included the first part of when they encountered instead of just focusing on the last book of the Hades and Persephone retelling timeline
I still very much enjoyed how different and just fittting they were with each other and Dionysus is intriguing me very much so I will read the next book of this series ( it’s about Dionysus and Ariadne)
Literally hooked from page one I love these two so much! Helios is one of my favorites from this series and Mellie absolutely deserves this kind of love! The two of them had me all in my feels and giggling like an idiot so many times! I love the footnotes connecting it to TQATK too! I’ll have to go back and actually read them in tandem now.
I love Mellie so much she’s my favorite character she’s hilarious! Loved how much Helios loves this woman and how kind sweet and loving he is towards her. I wish they had another book I could read about them forever
I love Helios and Melinoë's relationship. She's the goddess of nightmares and he's the titan of the sun. Complete opposites but the love they show each other is so cute and weird I just can't get enough of it. She plays hard to get all the time but he's the cliche golden retriever boyfriend being all patient waiting for her to admit she loves him and is his girlfriend. Even if she slips into the darkness and insanity he will be the sunshine in her head following her whenever she falls. They make me so happy and I hope to read more of them if this series continues.
The Nightmare and the Daydream absolutely blew me away, I loved it so much. It is the accompanying novella to the final book in Alexis Rune and Jeanette Rose’s Hades and Persephone series. I read it in tandem with The Queen and The King and highly recommend reading that way (there’s helpful footnotes to guide you as you read both books).
This novella focuses on Melinoë and Helios - two complete opposites who cannot stay away from each other. Helios is a golden retriever and Melinoë is a spicy black cat. The banter is some of my favourite, and the way Helios supports Melinoë is second to none, and the SPICE 🥵🥵🥵 It was sublime.
There are some really dark themes in this book, especially around mental health, but they are handled so well. I wept and sobbed through parts, and at the end, my heart was so full.
If you’re looking for a completed fantasy romance Hades and Persephone retelling, look no further! The first book is The Maiden and the Unseen. All four books are available now, and are on KU!
Thank you to Alexis, Jeanette, and Good Girls PR for the gifted ARC, thoughts and opinions are my own.
"If you lose yourself in the darkness, take me with you. I would rather live madness with you than in sanity with anyone else."
The Nightmare & The Daydream is a novella in the adult fantasy romance series, Love and Fate. Taking place during the events of the third book, The Queen and the King as it follows our beloved characters Melinoe and Helios. Melinoe is desperate to help her friends find their way back together at the threat of her sanity. What she didn't expect was that she would need to turn to the Titan who has been relentlessly pursuing her. Passion ignites between these two as the gods and Titans fight. Sides must be taken and these two must decide if love has the power to save or will they give into the madness...
This novella was completely unexpected and an absolute delight.
It can be read in tandem with The Queen & The King but I personally did not do this and I felt it gave me more time to really dig into Helios and Melinoe's journey.
Melinoe is kick-ass character who's love for her friends drives her to do so much. I loved seeing her fight with herself as she is faced with this Titan who wants her desperately. She struggles to retain her sanity because of her gift and she fears what will happen if she lets some support her in the madness and that had me in a puddle.
Helios is this burnt cinnamon role kind of character that I adored. He is utterly entranced by everything Melinoe does and I just love how much he worships her. He loves her violence and her need to push him away but is confident and supportive of her. He sees all of her and accepts it whole heartedly.
This book is spicy - I would say 3.5 spicy peppers out of 5 spicy peppers. The chemistry between these two has been growing over the series so these two jump each other quite early on. Their spice is feral and the connection between them was so easy to follow. I loved the push and pull but also to inevitability of it. The fight between them is the easy side of angsty where it felt half hearted at times but when they finally give in...I was squealing.
"'Fight it all you want, but you come to me in your sleep and when you're on the brink because you need me.' And I need you."
In terms of story and plot, this plot is quite light. It borrows heavily off of The Queen & The King as I mentioned so if you want a bigger and more thorough story you can read them together. Instead, if you read the novella as a novella you get this delightful edgy romance that picks up with some action at the end. The banter is perfection and I loved the sweet slices of life moments thrown in here. It made me want to go back to book 1 and reread their journey leading up to this book.
Overall if you love spicy feral romance with a simping Titan and a goddess of nightmare unable to turn away from that devotion this book will be everything you want. I devoured it in one sitting.
Big thank you to Jeanette Rose, Alexis Rune and Rose & Star, for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are my own and left voluntarily!
"Nightmares and daydreams are opposites. They are never to be crossed. "
I did the tandem read (my first ever) with The Queen and The King which I highly recommend doing as they complemented each other so well! If you dislike tandem reads, I recommend reading The Queen and The King first as I think it helps this story flow much better.
"If you lose yourself in the darkness, take me with you. I would rather live madness with you than in sanity with anyone else."
If someone told me that Melinoë, Goddess of Nightmares and Ghosts, hooked up with Helios, Titan of the Sun, and would then enter into the most extreme version of a grumpy x sunshine stalker romance ever, I probably wouldn't have believed you. Yet here we are. Melinoë gives serious Harley Quinn vibes and Helios is the biggest golden retriever sunboy to ever walk the earth. This was truly unputdownable for me.
Their conversations and banter was so engaging and hilarious. Melinoë's nicknames for Helios never ceased to make me smile and were always so out of pocket.
"'I’m the only one who gets to stab you, got it?' 'Got it. Although he didn’t stab me. ' 'Well. No one except me can maim you, either.'"
It probably says a lot about my mental state since I liked this so much but oh well. I am beyond obsessed!! Melinoë and Helios were the most toxic, chaotic, messy couple and I was all here for supporting their bad decisions. Yet despite this, there were so many sweet and tender moments. Helios was out here turning me into a puddle.
"I want her madness. I want her sanity. I want her violence. I want her to purr when I make her happy. I want her."
That isn't to say this didn't have its issues. I really think if I didn't read this as a tandem I would have been really lost as the timeline and sudden jumps in events probably would've confused me a ton. The starts and ends of the chapters especially would throw people for a loop. However, with the tandem everything made perfect sense.
"She was a hurricane, and I don’t want to clear the storm with the sun, not at all. I want to dance in the rain."
I loved this so much more than I thought I would and I'm so sad their story is over because I loved this wild ride! I can't wait to see where this series goes next and hopefully we get a little cameo.
Thank you so incredibly much to the authors for sharing an ARC of this book with me!!!
“I want her madness. I want her sanity. I want her violence. I want her to purr when I make her happy. I want her.”
“You hate the way you want me,”
“I’ll wait in the abyss with her until she’s ready.”
Listen here there is only one thing I have to say about this book … IT. WAS. FANTASTIC!!! I loved it, loved it, loved it!!! I couldn’t help myself!!! I tried to slow down my reading because I can’t say goodbye to the series and these amazing characters !!! In this way more perfect than I dare say reverse grumpy sunshine, very kinky and very spicy and steamy kinda enemies to lovers story about the goddess of nightmares and the god of sun, Melinoe and Helios are incredibly perfect for each other. The angst that characterises their relationship is unmatched, almost as much as how feral and unhinged their are towards one another. I think they are both in dire need of therapy but then again … so am I. A love as strong as it is mad and unapologetic. A passion and a list for the other that gives you goosebumps on the regular. And while Mellie is absolutely creative in every possible way but especially when it comes to new nicknames for Helios … the things he says to her and the things he is ready to do for her … he left me in a puddle on the floor. I kept on melting and somehow I felt like a part of my soul was healed by his words … I wonder if Mellie felt the same somehow !!! Considering the timelines are the same of the third book in the series a reread is in plan but overall … you can read the books in whatever order, it won’t change the outcome. You’ll fall head over heels in love with these wonderful characters and these amazing authors !!! Just as I did !!!
“Don’t go where I can’t follow,” I whisper. “If you find yourself falling into your mind, don’t leave me behind. Wherever you’re going is where I am headed, too.”
“I’m the nightmare.” Helios cups my cheek, tilting my head up. “You’re a dream to me.”
“ She is both fearless and fearful, brave and cowardly. Melinoë is nightmare and daydream.”
Thank you to Good Girls PR, Rose & Star Publishing, Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune for providing me with a digital arc.
I read this and The Queen and The King as tandem reads and I highly recommend it. If you are worried it is going to be extra work or just take a lot of time, it won’t. Alexis Rune and Jeanette Rose planned these two to work as individuals and as tandem reads so due to that they put footnotes in both books of where to switch back and forth making it insanely easy to read. Start with The Queen and The King and then when you hit a footnote switch books and repeat until you’re done. This is technically the book 4 or 3.5 in the Love and Fate series and The Queen and The King is book 3 and the final in the main trilogy for hades and persephone. But these two books take place at the same time so that is why the tandem read adds a lot of depth to the reading experience. I am so excited to see what these two authors continue to write and to see who else the give stories to in this world as there will be more.
Spoilers for books 1 and 2 in the love and fate series.
Melinoë, Goddess of Nightmares and Ghosts, wants nothing to do with Helios. She has enough to deal with as she spends her life teetering on the edge of insanity and clinging to the real world. But after a incident at a nightclub Melinoë gains a very warm stalker who happens to be the Titan of the Sun. Helios is instantly obsessed with the little feisty Goddess of Nightmares after bumping into her and her knocking him out after a tryst in a bathroom. But with the war approaching Helios has to choose who to fight for, his family or his love?
I loved seeing more of Melinoë's abilities in this book as she truly is powerful especially with Helios by her side. I loved the relationship between them and how back and forth it was and all of the amazing banter. But this relationship also had sweet moments and I loved how Helios accepted and loved Melinoë for who she is and didn’t want to change anything about her. Melinoë is a character we have seen a bunch in the main trilogy but she tries to hide how much she struggles with being on that edge from everyone and getting to fully see her tip over that edge a few times was something not a lot of authors would do. Helios supports her fully and wants to be there for her when she needs him and he helps her accept who she is and what her powers mean.
I can’t recommend this series enough and if you can do the tandem read, do it. You will not regret it and it adds so much to the story. All of these books are on Kindle unlimited and are amazing.
Written as a companion novella to The Queen & the King, this story was perfect for anyone looking for a bit darker of a romance from their Greek myth retelling. While Rose and Rune set both books up to be read in tandem if the reader wants, I opted to read one and then the other and I don't feel like reading them that way took away from my overall experience.
I loved these unhinged lovebirds. Mellie and Helios were somehow the perfect complement to each other while simultaneously remaining at each others' throats throughout most of the story. It was obvious there was a lot going on with Helios and Mellie throughout The Queen & the King, and I loved getting the full picture with this follow-up novella.
This relationship was a lot darker than Hades and Persephone ever got. There was a lot at play between these two, and a lot of emotional trauma had to be healed before Mellie and Helios could give it a true shot. Part of that healing manifested in a darker, physical relationship as well, one which was a little surprising coming from the Sun Titan, Helios. I thought Rose and Rune handled the physical and emotional aspects of the relationship very well; after everything the main characters have been through, I thought their mutual healing was portrayed realistically. It was gritty and it was dark, and I loved these characters because of how authentic their healing journey came across.
After everything Hades and Persephone went through in The Queen & the King, this novella was a perfect way to tell another side of the story while bringing supporting characters to the forefront. While readers can enjoy The Queen & the King without reading The Nightmare & the Daydream, the true depth of this novella comes from its tie-in to the events in the main book, and as such, this novella should either be read at the same time or after The Queen & the King.
[A huge thank you to the authors and team at Rose & Star Publishing for providing an advanced copy of this title for review purposes. All opinions are my own.]
Thank you so much Rose and Star Publishing for sending me this ARC!
The Nightmare & the Daydream is a novella in Love & Fate series and can be read as a tandem read with the third book, The Queen & the King. This book was so much fun and I loved seeing all my favorite characters again!
I loved Mellie and Helios since the first time they appeared in the Love & Fate series and I loved finally reading their story. Mellie is such a complex character, she was chaotic, sometimes insane and obsessed with Helios, she was written in a really unique way and I loved reading her POV, she was an amazing and strong FMC. Helios was Mellie’s polar opposite and a sunshine to her grumpy, I loved how understanding and supportive he was for her and never gave up. Mellie and Halios have a definitely unique relationship and I absolutely loved reading about it, the banter was amazing and often made me laugh out loud and the way Mellie tried to fight their attraction and Helios was always tempting her OMG I just love these two and their romance and let me just say the spice was *chef’s kiss*.
The Nightmare & the Daydream is a really grey book a perfect next installment in this fantasy romance series, it has Greek mythology, beautiful & spicy romance, really interesting characters and fast paced plot, I loved it and can’t wait for next books in this series.
Oh my gosh just when I thought I couldn’t love Mellie and Helios more, Jeanette and Alexis go and write this fantastic novella.
What To Expect: •Novella in the Love and Fate Series/World •Can be read in tandem with The Queen & The King or standalone (highly recommend tandem) •Banter •Helios is an absolute SIMP with major golden retriever vibes •Grumpy x Sunshine •Angsty at times •Trigger Warnings ⚠️ (may contain spoilers) *Extreme Violence *Somnophilia *Primal Play *Self Harm *Sexually Explicit Scenes: -Exhibitionism -Knife Play -Blood Play * Alcohol & Drug Abuse * Portrayals of Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disorder (Melinoë) -It should be noted Melinoë is driven insane by the things she experiences as the Goddess of Nightmares, at no point should she be considered an accurate representation of humans who experience either of these disorders. •and so much more!
And I need more of them Jeanette and Alexis! So much more 🖤🖤🖤 the push and pull. The electricity. The feral-ness, from both of them. The banter. The everything!!! I can’t get enough! 🔥🥵 if there is anything I go nuts over it’s the banter and the push and pull between characters. And we were given that ten fold!
my main critics are that it wasn't really a novella (mainly because of the length), and that it wasn't exactly as much of a standalone as it was advertised in the opening. It kind of just... threw you in with no backstory for the characters at all. Don't get me wrong, I loved this book and this series but I am thinking from a new readers standpoint on this. I think instead of calling it a novella and putting it at #3.5, it should just be #4. I think it would be a very easy fix to just add to the beginning to flesh out the characters more.
The book itself was pretty fire! I have been following this series since book 1 and I love how far each characters relationship has come. I wish they had played up some stuff with their powers and how it affects them but it was a novella so I guess that wasn't the goal. Considering it was a novella, especially a romance one, the lack of spice was a little surprising. There was a good amount, but when it happened I felt it didn't match up to the main series. I am still excited for more books to come because I loved the main series... this one just didn't match it.
Melinoe & Helios’ story is a lovely, dark tale of opposites attract!
Firstly, I love that these two have nicknames for each other! Helios calls Melinoe Hellcat; Melinoe calls Helios Sunboy. {Hello, Grumpy x Sunshine!}
Secondly, I love that these two are absolutely feral for each other! {the spicy scenes are top tier}
Each time Melinoe helps Hades attempt to reach Persephone she is drawn closer to the brink of chaos. Only Helios can reach Melinoe through the fog of madness and return her to a state of sanity. Melinoe’s traumatic past has left an inability to trust, a fear of being vulnerable and deep emotional connection.
After a bathroom rendezvous with Melinoe, Helios is awestruck and in love. As their relationship blossoms, Helios is pulled in another direction as his family prepares for war.
My favorite part of this book is a thought Helios has towards Melinoe “If you lose yourself to your darkness, take me with you. I would rather live in madness with you than in sanity with anyone else”. { I mean, SWOON, right?}
This Novella is excellent. I love the portrayal of Melinoë and Helios, and their back and forth. It is such a good showcase of mental illness and also what support looks like from those around you.
Supporting someone with mental illness, or someone who is the goddess of nightmares is tough work, but it doesn’t make the person any less lovable – and that is exactly what we see from Helios. He is her sunshine and he will be the light in the darkness always for her.
I teared up so many times reading this novella – the vulnerability, the despair, the tough relationship. It was all so much and so good.
Their dirty rough spice is amazing and while not my cup of tea in real life, was perfect for the 2 of them. Who new ‘sunboy’ was so dark and depraved?? We love it.
Overall, The Nightmare & the Daydream Novella as book 3.5 in the Love and Fates series by Alexis Rune & Jeannette Rose was excellent and I loved it so much. I companion read it with The Queen and The King (book 3) and it was so perfect together like that. I would love to get a special edition of the book where this and book 3 are combined.
5⭐️ 4🌶️ - MF - Grumpy/Sunshine - Epic Banter - 🔪 Play - Companion Novella to The Queen and the King
I loved this book! The banter between Mellie and Helios was giving me life! The nicknames she comes up with for Helios had me cracking up.
I loved the push and pull of their relationship. You can’t get a more obvious grumpy/sunshine dynamic than a goddess of nightmares and a sun god.
Mellie was such an amazing and complex character with more sass than any other character I can think of. Despite being terrified of trusting others and letting them get close to her, she was so fierce and selfless and would continuously put herself in harms way to help those she loves.
Helios was the perfect match for her. He wasn’t afraid of anything and was willing to fight for Mellie and proved it over and over again. I didn’t expect him to be such a masochistic but somehow it made perfect sense.
I highly recommend doing the tandem read with this and The Queen and the King. Even when this book got darker and more serious delving into Mellie’s past and fears, their banter added some much needed levity to the more morose beginning of TQ&TK.
The moment I learned there would be a novella for these 2, I was so excited because I love both characters. Their back and forth is amazing and I love how he doesn't give up on her and just knows her. She pushes but he never gives up because he knows she's just scared and that's a magical thing in itself to be honest. There is a lot of spice in this book, but the moments of them connecting and being there for each other are so beautiful. They grow together and I liked her being so difficult. Not just giving in. But Helios at the end is glorious. He will never give up and I love how he has this whole thing planned out and just knows how she will react every time but still going for it. It's amazing. I did a tandem read with the queen and the king and I can't imagine not reading them together because they follow each other up perfectly. It would have been better to have the books as one because I think reading them separately would never be as good as together.
- I received and arc in exchange for an honest review. -
The Nightmare and The Daydream is a companion novella to The Queen & The King with POVs from Melinoe & Helios. You can read it in tandem with TQATK or read it afterwards, which is what I did and I loved every second of it. Jeanette Rose & Alexis Rune did an amazing job expanding on these two lovable characters and their relationship from the Love and Fate series.
Melinoe & Helios are the perfect opposites attract steamy romance. Melinoe is the Goddess of Nightmares and such a badass snarky FMC with a tragic past and darkness in her that brings either madness or insanity out. To see what she goes through gives a better understanding of why she acts the way she does and seeing her character arc was such a treat. Helios is the Titan of the Sun, all warmth and sunshine, with a fierce need to protect those he loves and a man obsessed from their first encounter. Gosh I adore the way he loves Mel even as she tries to push him away. Their banter and steamy scenes are perfect!
I devoured it in one sitting, I cannot recommend this whole series enough!
Guys, I am FERAL about Helios and Mellie!!!! Utterly FERAL!! This is now my fave ever couple from this series (Hades and Persephone who?!). They are fantastic, unhinged, a true clash between insults and care. This was so much fun to read - it's faced paced, SUPER spicy and just a fabulous ride that I couldn't put down!!!!!
Ever since they hooked up in a club bathroom and Mellie left Helios unconcious, I've been desperate to know more about their relationship... their relationship is chaotic, full of vitrol (from Mellie, Helios is a love sick puppy and we love him for it!) I loved that we got both of their POV's - Mellie's mindset was extremely interesting to read. She's such a wounded soul but also, deep, deep down, very caring!! She will go to Hell and back (literally!) for her friends and those she cares about.
Honestly, this was a fun, spicy read and a fantastic companion to The Queen and The King!
I absolutely loved this book. Helios and Mellie were always characters I enjoyed, but in this book, hearing their internal dialogue and having a focus on their relationship, I fell head over heels for them. Their banter was one of a kind and so freaking funny. Their love was unusual, but beautiful nonetheless. And Helios' determination and unwavering doubt in his love for Mellie was swoon worthy.
While this was a novella, I felt like it had a lot of substance, especially read in tandem with The Queen and the King. However, it definitely felt more feel good and spicy with a side of plot than TQ+TK. We still delved into some deep issues and I loved the action scenes, so there was plenty to love about this story.
I'm super excited to see that Jeanette and Alexis have plans to continue the series, I felt like a Dionysius story was hinted at during the battle and was so excited to see the lil teaser for it at the end. I can't wait for more of this world.
This novella is so good and I am so glad that the authors wrote Helios and Melinoë's story.
Their relationship starts as a one sided enemies to lovers, because Helios is so in love with Melinoë. He is there for her all time, understands her and takes care of her when she disappears into the deepest thoughts. It is very difficult for her to understand love and to trust another person, but she starts with small steps.
Their story is really cute and lovely, but it seemed so short. I would have loved there were more moments between them. If you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for? Start it now!
Thank you Jeanette Rose and Alexis Rune for the opportunity to read this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.
This was soooo good. I was craving more from Melinöe’s perspective and I absolutely LOVED this novella of her and Helios. I read it in tandem with The King & The Queen.
She’s like a cute Harley Quinn-type. This book was surprisingly deep and while her conflict is about her power being the goddess of nightmares, there’s a really great conversation about the way we can get lost in our own heads and mental health awareness.
Helios was a total cinnamon roll for Mellie and I loved all of it!!
The enemies to lovers was amazing (although it was only on Mellie’s side - Helios was always down bad for her). Melinöe fought Helios’s love and affection every step of the way and I ate it up.
And the spice was spicinnnnnnn. So hot. (TW knife play, breath play, bl00d play)
Giving this 4.5 because some of the lines between the two of them got repetitive throughout the story!
This book is a companion novella to book 3, and I highly recommend a tandem read! Trust me!
Mellie and Helios are so freaking crazy together, and I love it!! I’ve always loved Mellie, so I just love that she has her own novella! These two are the definition of banter!! Helios is so obsessed and Mellie is not having it! She’s constantly insulting him, but he loves it! I seriously can’t get enough of them! They are opposites in every way, but there’s something that just works with them!
