Loving this trilogy. Oscar is hot rich alpha male but treats women as if they are after his money. Although he is an ass I feel quite sorry for him and he appears to have feelings for Elle. Ivan the rich hot Russian with the phone sex voice is attracted to Elle but also treats women like playthings. Has Oscar blown his chances with Elle, will Ivan win over Elle......"can't wait to find out in book two.

I loved this book! I love it when an author can make me say “wow, I did not see that coming!" That is just what happened to me when it came to Oscar! I am on to book 2! At this point I honestly have no idea what is going to happen next! I do know I plan on finding out!!

Things I hated about this series:
- Spelling/grammar mistakes
- Main character
- Unnatural dialogue that never flowed
- The jumpy writing going from place to place which actually made me feel stressed at one point because it was moving so fast
- The ridiculousness of the story:
-- Three billionaires working in the same building basically in love with her and competing for her? Yeah, sure.
-- Russian Mob? Yeah, sure.
-- Convenient deaths of antagonists? Yeah, sure.
-- Randomly spending 5million on her flat a few months into the book? Yeah, sure.
-- Her random and oh so clever iPhone recordings? Oh come on. Just no.
- The supposed love story with Ivan which was utterly ridiculous - how many times did he put her in harm's way or betray her trust or whatever just for her to keep going back to him within minutes?
- I think the main character is actually a sociopath. Rifling through Dascha's things and taking them all days after their death? Her constant changes of mind with Ivan? She started to really freak me out.
- "I hugged myself with glee" - phrase needs to go

Things I liked about this series:
- She is the greatest lawyer who ever lawyered even though she just came out of trainee lawyering. I mean at some point I was just reading this for the lawyer bits which seemed about as realistic as someone writing a John Grisham novel having never met a lawyer, read a law book, or indeed read a John Grisham novel.
- Erm. I have nothing else. Apparently there are two spin off books written from Ivan's and Oscar's povs. God help us.

Loved it. This book is about Elle who's twenty four years old and has worked her way from a background of poverty to being a corporate lawyer, she's worked hard, harder than most to prove herself and get where she is today. She gets her big chance by being promoted to the prestigious corporate department of Pearson and Hardwick at Canary Wharf, she finds the perfect flat mate living in the perfect flat and life looks to be on the right track for Elle. She meets her neighbour and her first, and second impressions of him leave her to believe that he's less than blessed with social graces and politeness but makes up for it with looks, she also catches the attention of Ivan a Russian billionaire who's definately a man used to getting his own way, but will he get his own way with Elle she's used to fighting for what she wants and standing up for herself, not a pushover at all.

I just loved this I loved all the characters, the story, the dynamics everything, Elle is a strong independent women and this just makes her more attractive to these powerful rich men who are used to having women literally throwing themselves at them. I can't wait for the next book, this one was fantastic.

Elle is determined to make it. Coming from a poorer background, she wants to be successful.

New job, new apartment equals a new Elle but things get tricky when she meets two handsome strangers. Both different, both wealthy. But she hasn't aspired to a wealth she didn't earn and it is Oscar who she eventually starts to date.

Their worlds are so different though and cracks appear. Soon things get difficult and her and Ivan get closer.

****3.5****

This was an extremely fast paced book. Very descriptive and interesting. No cliche and stereotypical moments and the heroine was likeable. This book was not an earth shattering experience but I'm certainly curious about what the characters are up to in book 2. Not intrigued enough to continue the series though.

ZERO STARS. Without a doubt, the WORST book I have ever read in my life - which I did not think was a possible bar to hit after the FRV series. What a way to start the year.
Also, I am so sorry to insult anyone who stumbles across this, but I am severely concerned about the collective intelligence of the people that read & rated this book - an average of 4 stars? Who is paying you??

TL;DR: EXTREMELY badly researched, SO MANY grammatical issues (ik you're self published but can you literally just proofread your work??), insufferable FMC, homophobia riddled, very sexist, atrocious writing.

I usually do pros and cons but there was not one singular pro about this book so here are the cons.
NB - I picked this up because the main character is a newly qualified lawyer from a poor background (which matches my description) so my comments will also include criticisms on the legal/sector inaccuracies. Let's go in chronological order.

P10 - The firm is called Pearson and Hardwick? Already, bffr, this is literally a Pearson Hardman ripoff (the law firm from Suits). The main character's name is Elle... as in... Elle Woods. Also 'six years of studying' is wrong, the training contract isn't studying so it's 4 years of study + two years traineeship but there's my first pedantic comment. Alllso, 'the big 4' is a finance thing not a law thing.
P11 - Adam Lambert lmao
P12 - "Lucy didn't have to watch the pennies as I did" girl you're on an 80k salary, whether you grew up poor or not
P13 - "our corporate department at Canary Wharf" - law firms don't put their departments in different offices? Also, later down on the page - why does this corporate firm offer a seat in family law??
P15 - "15/100 trainees were offered employment" - this is insane. Most big firms have a retention rate of around 90%. Why tf would they waste an insane amount of money (approx 100k per trainee) to legally qualify 100 trainees only to take 15 of them, whilst 85 go to other firms? That is a huge nonsensical net loss - you don't even need to research this, it's logic.
P18 - a massive flat in Canary Wharf on the 14th floor with an ensuite + walk in wardrobe + private gym + balcony + all bills included yet her share of the rent is only 1k a month? when can I move in? Also, if youre poor then max student loan is 21k for three years + tuition fees were approx 10k for 3 years (in 2013) so ur telling me on 50k salary over two years you paid off 31k? no wonder you're still poor. I know this is nitpicky but it's so easily researchable; I have read fanfic better researched than this.
P21 - ["Elle," James yelled] girl if he yelled where is the ! ["Bon appetite"]
P25 - THIS BOOK IS PUBLISHED?? AND YOU CANT EVEN GET YOUR/YOU'RE CORRECT??? DON'T YOU HAVE AN EDITOR? ALSO she has been in the office two seconds and is completely fine with extremely "sexist banter" (sic) ... PLS CALL HR
P26 - okay so youre fine with your colleagues joking about fucking you bc you "expected sexism" but this guy asks if youre a secretary and you're up in arms? okay
P30 - no gay person says "is she hetero?" - also why is your straight male character saying "raging dyke"?
P36 - missing speech marks
P38 - missing possessive apostrophe
P47 - shes from cambridge, hes from oxford, and there’s zero “which college?” question - +1 SIN
P50 - she's straight up classist about blue collar workers
P55 - once again, it should be "you're" not "your"
P59 - you keep banging on about everything you did to get here boo hoo poor me and yet you're considering DATING A CLIENTT????? Also THIRD instance of using "your" instead of "you're"
P64 - so you beefed him for a chapter because you didn't want to fuck on the first date/be a sex object yet the second he comes over to apologise you shag him
P75 - Goldings bank?... like... Goldman Sachs?
P89 - she has been an associate for like a week, if that, and is getting a private office & secretary (in an open plan office mind you) just bc she snagged a good client lmao
P108 - "I logged on to companies house" I rlly wanna know which trainee lawyer she got her intel from lol
P124 - 1) "Rothschild" is misspelt 2) Male love interest is part of the Bullingdon Club and we're supposed to like him?
P127 - what "big London law firm" puts its trainees in a Travelodge lol
P128 - NO LAWYER WOULD BE ALLOWED TO DATE A CLIENT
P129 - why is her alcoholism never addressed pls this girl has liver failure at best
P139 - finished by 4:30 ijbol
P141 - she didn't speak to him bc he was gonna introduce her as his friend but LOVER is less demeaning apparently. Also misplaced quotation marks.
P142 - the name Harvey... in a book about law...
P145 - entire group is horrendously fatphobic & make fun of this girl for the sole reason that she is "ugly and fat"? And we're supposed to like these characters and laugh with them? You could have made the girl a terrible person and have them insult her character instead.
P150 - I swear to god the amount of times I have had to read the phrase "impressive erection" is criminal.
P158 - How do you go to Cambridge and spend two years as a trainee only to STILL spend every waking moment steaming in anger and jealousy over your poor background, get a fucking grip (from someone who grew up on a council estate but went to Oxford & is a trainee lawyer, you are making us look bad, we do not do this)
P161 - paragraphing error
P162 - quotation mark the wrong way around
P170 - "Louboutins" spelt "Laboutins" ?? It takes two seconds to Google? Also sorry I am kink shaming wdym he is a shoe licker.
P173 - paragraphing error
P177 - hold on a sec - if he's a lord why is he staying in an apartment block thats apparently 2k a month bills included? why isn't he in a big fat serviced apartment?
P181 - guess what girlie this is my exact life story and yet I dont hide it like some ashamed freak; youre supposed to be this confident, headstrong girl but ur ashamed of where u come from?
P185 - hold on guys she's not like other girls who are silly and weak xx
P188 - missing question mark
P189 - right so this matriarch who apparently has only every cared about lineage and a good marry for her son... has been won over by a newsletter?
P193-194 - OKAY. This entire homophobic/biphobic rant is INSANEEEE. First of all, the decision to randomly throw in this plot twist that Oscar is secretly shagging his (male) friend is very rogue, but like sure whatever I guess? However, the phrases "homosexual tryst... made me feel sick," "Fag bangle," "It disgusts me" AND "I'm a fucking lawyer gayboy"... my goodness. And it's not even framed as a heat-of-the-moment harsh-words-were-said type vibe, it's just her being gross and we're supposed to clutch our pearls and agree with her. Being appalled at the cheating is totally fine, but the entire issue for her is that he bottomed for a man. I honestly shouldn't be surprised after the creepy predatory lesbian trope that was played earlier.
P197 - bisexuality not homosexuality but okay
P221 - this book is so gross and rude about bisexual men
P232 - she's worked there for approx a month as an associate, has worked on like TWO cases and is going from 80k to 200k? Girl lmao.

I need to lie down. And this barely even mentioned the unsexy sex scenes. I'm genuinely considering reading the sequel so my lawyer friends and I can point and laugh, but I'm worried about the probable psychic damage. If you think this book is good, GET HELP.

Moral of the story: just because you can self publish, doesn't mean you should!

Having a hard time finishing. The story plot is decent but the writing style is t.e.r.r.i.b.l.e. The author goes on and on with mundane details regarding how Elle woke up, drank coffee, went to the gym, walked to work, sat at her desk, etc., but neglects details during scenes with dialogue or the story plot. She also jumps to and from scenes within a paragraph, which is annoying to follow. I know this series is in 5 parts but I have a feeling there's going to be a huge lack in creativity and I don't know if I want to spend the $ on the rest. I love reading series but not if the main point is painfully dragged on for 4 books. If I knew the author's writing style & grammar are going to be better in the other 4 books, then I'd definitely be game to finish.

Not a huge fan of the serial novel but the writing here was exceptional! There are a few punctuation mistakes but the story flows along effortlessly. There is an unexpected plot twist ratcheting reader interest into reading the next book. Love the brit humor!

What did I just read? Writing was awful: She woke up, she drank coffee, she put her clothes on, she watched tv, she went to work, she came back, she went to bed. And the characters were just awfully annoying.

A lot of sexy scenes in this book

I have used the audio to listen to this, book. It is not too bad but I feel it focuses too much on the amount of sex going on but the storyline is. Good. I am intrigued enough by this one to read the next one in the series...I found this story cut out way too soon, which makes you want to find out more...what will happen next...this is the reason I will buy the next book , just too see where the author is taking us with this story line. There is a lot of books out there with similar outline of this type of story...but saying that on a good note...it was enjoyable and as much as I like the sexy scenes,,,there has to be a good time to put them....just having sexy bedroom romps in a book does not always make it a good story....the layout needs to be more thought out and the characters need to be more believable...but as I said earlier, I am willing to see where the next book takes the story to. This Is just my opinion as a reader....and I read a lot of books.

I'm looking forward to the rest of this series... this book, naturally being the first, had a lot of set up. Even so, it managed to deliver a nice surprise about Oscar. Boom! Didn't see that coming.

I wondered how Elle and James became friends quite so quickly. Also, how she managed to charm Oscar's mother quite so easily. Those would be my two quibbles. A book in which the show Mock the Week figures is a huge plus. This author is clearly authentically English, as opposed to some of the painful crap written by people who think that because they speak the same language they know the country. I would recommend this to anyone considering writing a romance about the UK. Thank you, DA Latham. On to book two!

fabulous read

wonderful to have a strong female heroin for a change. A little long winded but worth the money, looking for the next in series now I'm hooked to find out what happens next.

I enjoyed the book, but found the editing (or lack thereof) quite distracting. The use of "we're" for "were" for one example. Frequently, there were NO spaces between sentences. Does this author not proofread her work? Or have an editor???

I loved this book couldn't put it down. Elle Reynolds worked really hard to have a better life and now she was just about to find out if her six years of hard work payed off. With the help of her friend Lucy she was able to get a place to live close to her new job. James is her roommate and owner of the apartment where she will be staying. Elle met Oscar Golding by bumping into him on the elevator of the apartment he's the Chairman of Golding bank. Elle also met Ivan Porenski the Russian who is the CEO of a finance company. Both Oscar and Ivan are very impressed with Elle's work and also find her very attractive. Oscar invited Elle to his family's place in Sussex for the weekend and since she was doing some work for Ivan there also she agreed. Elle was having a great time at Oscars family home with his friends, but on the second night Elle woke up and was going to get something to drink when she cought Oscar with someone else. Elle gathered her stuff and left him and told him to never call her or look for her ever. When she left she called the driver that Ivan had set up for her, but when the car arrived it was Ivan who picked her up.

I received a copy of this book for an honest review.

I must say that I was honestly surprised that this book took me in so good. It was slow to start, but it quickly sucked me in and I finished in a day! I love that D A Latham has the female as the strong willed smart and made something of herself in this book. She was not just a stand by and let the world take advantage of her. The three men were all special in their own way, James became her best friend and confidant, Oscar her ‘strange’ lover, and Ivan just wants to be her everything. As I read on, I was surprised by the secrets that were revealed and the GIANT cliffhanger… I am so One-Clicking book 2 right now!!!

This just wasn't my cuppa, Ella turns down Oscar because she doesn't sleep with men on the first date. He tells her he doesn't chase women. She's like, that's cool, and walks away. I was like good for her.

I was good with that, but then Oscar comes to her house and is like hey i'm an ass and i'm sorry.

Then she precede have sex with Oscar.

No second date, just a lame ass apology, and their bumpin uglies.

So I kept at it, because hey, what the hell, I bought this book and i'm going to get through it.

Naaa, DNF 44%

I would say read the book, and it's sexy. IF above, doesn't bother you about the heroine, then read on.

This narrator wins the worst narration award.

There were pauses at inappropriate times and pauses so long between chapters I thought my phone turned off. No inflection in voice for characters. It was like one run on sentence until the narrator needed a breath. Was there no punctuation in the book?

The storyline :
The girl has so man men falling over her. A wonderful career and great apartment. I like at one point she says she doesn't need a man to make her happy.
How cliche that things aren't always as they seem and while the book surprised me I can still see where this book series is heading a not interested in taking the ride.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I started reading it and thought how Elle is a strong dependent woman making her mark in London. Once I started reading I was hooked. I was floored and completely on the same page as Elle when something was reviled. I absolutely love how she is in her own and stands up for what is right and what is wrong. She doesn't take lightly to being pressured or bullied. I can not wait to read more about Elle and her billionaire friends.

Loved!

Love, Love, Love Elle!

She's quick witted, crazy smart and completely independent. She doesn't need a man ...yes it's nice to have one but not an absolute must have. She knows her self worth and refuses to take crap.

She alone would be the reason to read this story.

Now... The men...Oscar is the grumpy sexy guy that lives downstairs and works in the same building as her.

Ivan is the scary Russian that screams SEX!

Did I mention both have set their eyes on Elle?

This book is sooo fire! I can't wait to jump in to book two!

Good things happen for Elle pretty fast. Within days, she lands her dream job as a corporate attorney, leaves her Mother's dismal household, finds a fabulous flatmate who owns an exclusive flat, finds 2 hot, rich, powerful men panting after her . But before this first part ends, the twist happens quite fantastically. Didn't see that coming. If "he" is not her H, then who the heck can it be? Guess I'll have to read pt. 2 when it comes out.

Wow, I started this book this morning and could not put it down, I absolutely LOVE Elle. What a strong female character. She knows what she wants works hard to move forward in her career and does not need anyone's help to get ahead. I really recommend this book, it has LOL moments and also has very sexy moments to. I congratulate the author on for writing an amazing book. Cant wait to start book 2!!!

I really enjoyed this book and have just downloaded 2 and 3 to carry on with. Book keeps you hooked - not sure my children like that fact!!
Elle is lovely - high morals, hard worked and obviously beautiful. I liked Oscar and have to say I was a little sad to read what Elle had to see! I definitely think Oscar liked Elle but obviously - not enough. I like a happy ending :-) anyway - like a lady she handled it well. I'm excited to see what's coming next
