Well, my prayers were NOT answered. All the more, the book wasn't even as ok as the first one. At least that had an amazing story. THIS BOOK DIDN'T EVEN HAVE THAT. Such a big disappointment. It was like the story was just stuck in that one place, not moving forward. Just kept DRAGGING.

~

HOPE, BEG and PRAY that this book doesn't have a predictable cliché ending.
And that it has more dialogues than the first.

I have this feeling, ever since I read about some frat guy that was supposed to meet Bell during her accident that Ben cheated on Dahlia with Bell while they were together......
So in my mind, I've already painted him an asshole. River and the true HEA, hands down :)

5 Amazing Hearty Stars

Torn is Book # 2 in the Connections Series, if you have not read Connected yet I would suggest you read that before reading Torn and also before reading my review as it might contain spoilers of Connected.

After reading Connected I was dying to get my hands on Torn. Kim left us with a cliffhanger and I NEEDED to know what was going to happen with River & Dahlia

Torn Picks up right where Connected left off. River and Dahlia are set to leave for Vegas and get married when she receives a phone call. Yes Ben is alive. He has been living within the witness Protection program for the last three years for putting his nose in something he should have stayed out of.

My problem with Ben from the beginning was he had a choice and in my opinion he chose the wrong choice. So my dislike for him is warranted. He could have chosen to take Dahlia with him, but he chose not to. So to me He gets what he deserves.

“I thought Ben was my once-in-a-lifetime, but who knew a once-in-a-lifetime love could happen twice?”

Kim takes us on a rollercoaster of a ride with lies, betrayal, and what love truly means. Dahlia has finally put her grief and past behind her and moved on and has found love again in River. When things start to come to the surface of both of their pasts we see firsthand what a once in a lifetime love can be like.

While Dahlia Deals with Ben being alive and all her past grief being opened up wide again, we see River become more of the man she deserves when he sticks by her and helps her work through all the darkness.

“I do know that my intense connection with River is undeniable. The love I have for him is like nothing I’ve ever felt before; but Ben was my first love and that kind of love never leaves you – does it?”

River is amazing, although we find out that he also hid some things from Dahlia, we learn why he did it and I completely stood by his reasoning for what he felt was best for her. The love that these two have for each other is put through some very big tests, but in the end it will all be worth it. We watch River become very Alpha Male when necessary for Dahlia’s sake. I loved every minute of his compassion, his love, his continued support of everything Dahlia.

“I want to believe your love is only for me. That your lips are mine. That your kisses are meant for me. That your body belongs to me.”

We get so much more closure in this book, as well as some more surprises that even I did not see coming. But In the end Kim brought out the most amazing closure for River & Dahlia. I am sad to see their story come to a close, but I am very happy with the way things ended for them. I will be looking forward to the rest of this series from Kim with the next one being Mended which is Xander’s & Ivy’s story.

“Through everything, after all this time, you need to know…I have never ever stopped loving you, not for one second. And it scares the shit out of me to think that you don’t still love me. That you might actually love someone else.”

4.5 TORN STARS

Wow, Torn was nothing expected. I've said it once and I'll say it again...

THANK YOU KIM KARR!

Yes, thank you Kim for writing a love triangle I actually liked reading, I could stomach and just all around enjoyed!

IF YOU HAVE NOT READ CONNECTED, PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS REVIEW

So Torn picks up right where Connected left off and what an epic cliffy huh? I mean SHIT BEN IS ALIVE?!!! I was blown away by that little twist and so yeah, I was dying to get my hands on Torn. Torn is exactly what the title is, it's Dahlia torn between Ben and River. Let me put that HUGE BUT there... Dahlia doesn't act stupid. I hate reading a love triangle and you get so frustrated with the Heroine, but Dahlia never went there for me and that made me a very happy girl.

I liked Dahlia and sure she does some "silly" things like runaway from difficult situations, but let's be honest girls, we do that shit, well I do. I get her and maybe that is why I got Dahlia and River's dynamics. River and Dahlia are a real couple and have real problems. Of course River is super threaten by Ben, I mean, come on, Ben is Dahlia's dead fiance. That's some heavy shit.

“I want to believe your love is only for me. That your lips are mine. That your kisses are meant for me. That your body belongs to me.”

“…he’s marking me, but I don’t care. He already owns every piece of me. If he needs this to remind him, I’ll give it to him.”

The entire read is written from Dahlia's POV, but you do get glimpses of Ben's POV from his journal entries, which I completely enjoyed. I felt like reading Ben's entries gave me a better understanding of who he is and why he did what he did.

I really enjoyed Torn and I liked it more than Connected. I wouldn't call this read too angsty, but there's plenty of tension between the three players to get you hooked and interested. If you enjoyed Connected and are like me, need to know what happens after an epic cliffy, then Torn is a must read! I have a feeling, you will be very happy and satisfied once finished.

“Tu m’as manqué … you were missing from me”

“She’s not only mine, she’s mine forever”

Torn is the perfect sequel…..Really.

STOP! DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT READ "CONNECTED" - THE BELOW REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS - READ AT YOUR OWN RISK

The minute I read the last sentence of “Connected”, I could not wait for “Torn”. I was obsessed. The last chapter blew my mind, ripped the entire book apart, turn the story upside down and left me craving more… More River, more Ben, more Dahlia and the incessant need to answer the burning question: How does the existence of Ben factor into their lives?? Needless to say, “Torn” has given me the worse case of book hangover I’ve suffered, EVER. This is not your typical love triangle. It is a love story about two men who are deeply in love with and fight for the same woman.

At the end of “Connected”, Dahlia’s phone is ringing…answering a call that will change her world forever. Dahlia, a woman who has seen enough heart ache to fill several lifetimes, has finally moved beyond the loss of Ben. She had witnessed his murder, which tore her life apart. She mourned his death for over two years and is managing to piece a new life together with River. Continuing her life without her best friend turned fiancée was not easy. Ben was her rock and has carried her through the emotional trauma of losing both her parents. The twist in Connected…it turns out Ben is alive, hiding from some really bad people who posed a threat to both himself and Dahlia. Ben, an investigative reporter, took on a dangerous assignment, which put them both at risk. Making a selfish decision to put his career before his relationship with Dahlia, he faked his own death and starts his life anew. When there is no longer the threat of danger, Ben returns to his former life, ready to reclaim Dahl’s heart while disrupting her plans to marry her current fiancée River. WOW!

description

River, a hot and damn sexy singer in a rock band, met Dahlia during her college days. The two become reunited and their relationship turns into a full-blown romance. River becomes an important part of Dahlia’s life by helping her move on from darkness to a bright future. He is her soul mate and protector. I could feel his undying love for Dahlia throughout the story. With Ben’s return, River begins to doubt his relationship with Dahlia and fears she will be lost to him forever. This doubt tears River’s heart. I ached for River and his devotion to Dahlia swelled my heart. He longs for assurances, longs to believe he is her true love and not a consolation prize.

description

“ I love you, Dahlia, I love everything about you. You’re perfect, really…. And I will love you more, forever.” SWOON!!

He is a white knight, a dream lover and one hell of a sexy beast. When these two get together, they have some of the most sensual, panty melting, sexual encounters. From a good old fashion backyard banging, to a birthday striptease, their passion is never ending.

description

With the return of Ben comes the discovery of his past secrets, his betrayals and how they involve the people in her life. These secrets have the potential to crush Dahlia. But, Dahlia is by no means a damsel in distress. Despite being plagued by so much sadness, she is a strong and determined woman. She has made her decision as to whom she loves and will continue to spend her life with. She is not a weak willed, fickle girl who bounces between the hearts of two men. The man she has chosen to love feeds that strength and helps her to persevere. Dahlia is rock solid. Her strength is what I loved most and she is one of my most favorite female lead characters.

description

description

Ben has torn my heart apart. With the masterful writings of Kim Karr, I abhorred, pitied and adored his character. I wanted to both strangle and coddle him (at certain times). I am perplexed as to how I could feel compassion for him. But I did, despite the fact that he is an arrogant, cocky, selfish, lying son-of-a-bitch. His betrayals are many to both Dahl and his family. He thinks himself noble, believing his decisions were made with Dahl’s safety in mind... I call BULLSHIT. Ben had choices and Dahlia was not a priority. And I love…LOVED how she rips into him… calling him out on what he has done.

“Do you have any idea what I’ve been though? What you put me though? You died in front of me… you didn’t disappear, Ben – you fucking died in front of my eyes. I saw him – the asshole who shot you. I saw the coroner take your body away. I went to your God damn funeral… I cried for you, mourned you, missed you. At times I just wanted to die without you…” Love a chick with CAJONES!

But there are times when you see that Ben truly loves Dahl. A tiny piece of my heart bleeds for him, for he too has suffered losses in this story, mostly by his own self-destructive hands. I pity Ben for what he did and what he endured. But make no mistake, he adores Dahl and is persistent in his fight for her love.

“Through everything, after all this time, you need to know…I have never stopped loving you, not for one second…” Ah Ben, you are a conundrum. I both love and hate you.

description

Both men love Dahlia. Both are loved by Dahlia. Ben and River, regardless of their faults, believe they have the right to own her heart and will fight for her future. Following Dahlia’s journey there’s the discovery of which man, either her past or her present love, she surrenders her heart too. From the pain in Dahlia’s heart comes the beauty in her soul. Torn is truly an exquisite love story.

WOW..just WOW..Loved it! Will post review as part of Torn's Blog Tour @ www.sizzlingpages.com

5++++ RIVER, YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT REALLY STARS

"More-we say that to each other all the time, but it's not about who loves the other more, it's simply that we love each other more than words can possibly express. And nothing or no one can ever change that."

[image error] photo Fotor0926192117_zps77853603.png

If only that were true..in any story that I fall head over heels with there is angst, heartache, love beyond measure and a hot guy..So obviously Torn and I are going steady. Kim Karr has a way with crafting a story flawlessly and even making you root for those who, well don't really deserve it. Living a life can lead to being flawed and when the reality you have been living gets blown to pieces it takes love, patience and honesty to pull it back together.

"You were wrong, River, we are in pieces."

This book had me with clenched fists, gut wrenched and yelling at my Kindle at times. I even laughed out loud..and noticed (I think) that Ms. Karr used Blog names throughout her story? Am I right? References to Aesta, Reality Bites, and Smitten to name a few..did I catch that correctly? If the answer is yes, then Ms. Karr this is me asking you if next book we can get a Sizzling Pages shout out? WORD!

[image error] photo 2790f561-bd77-4ec7-beff-bb15633a5c14_zps2a92b065.jpg

Back to the review..The journey these two took to find their way through the past was well stunning. I was SO in love with River and Dahlia and so not in love with others..I will not name right now..but you will know whom I speak of after reading..

More it boiled down to a love that was more..and when the other characters get their turn, I hope I get More..River!

"Reach down deep into your soul, remember who I am, who we are, and I know you will have no doubts.

I love you more. I love you always!"

I felt the story took a natural path to finish, never was rushed and ended beautifully..perfect, really.

Holy love triangles!! This book was amazing.

I've been itching to post my review since I read this book and you know what happened when I checked my saved notes...?? My review was GONE!! *cue the violins* but you know what I didn't care. Coz this book was so awesome it stuck with me even though I had read it weeks and weeks ago.

If you haven't read Connected then I'd definitely suggest you haul ass and find your way to one click it before reading this!!

Torn picks up where we were left hanging in Connected. River and Dahlia are about to leave for Vegas to tie the knot and then she receives that phone call.

Then we find out that Ben...*gasps* YES Ben is still alive! He's been sitting pretty in New York for the last three years on some sort of Witness Protection thing all because he stuck his nose in where it don't belong.

Anyway, Ben is back and now Dahlia must decide where her heart truly lies. Will she stay with River the man who helped bring her back to life after years of loneliness and heartache or will the return of Ben reignite old feelings that Dahlia has for him and will it be enough for her to walk away from River and back into the arms of her ex?

Buried lies and secrets are revealed, the strongest of bonds and loyalties are tested. But will true love conquer all?

River

Dahlia

Ben

HOLY SHITBALLZ seriously...what a book! This was so awesome. I loved every minute of it and I couldn't keep still from my excitement.

I loved this book! It's the perfect ending to the River, Dahlia and Ben chapter of this series. There was so much about this book that I loved. Lets start with River!!

River, River, River...You are amazing! We see this whole new side to him that makes him so freaking hot! Not that he wasn't already but in this book we see River's possessive, protective alpha side to him and I swear I needed a few hours away from my iPad so I could stick my head in a freezer or something!! So fucking hot!!

And Dahlia! Wow!! Thank you so much for not annoying me! High five for sticking with your gut and not letting anyone make or take that decision away from you. She made me so proud! She was strong and actually used her heart as well as her head to make her decisions. Even though she had been through hell already she was able to step back, take time to sort out all the bullshit flying around in her head then made the right decision for her.

And then there's Ben. I actually despise this character so much! Like with a passion!! He was such an asshole. It was awesome being in his head and being able to read his journal entries from why shit went down the way it did with him, but you know what that showed me? It showed me how selfish he was from the get go. He never deserved having the love of such a loyal woman. He had that, though he never truly appreciated that unconditional love for what it was.

We also learn a whole lot of new things about the rest of the characters, that will most probably be intros for the next few books. AND there's also have a few cameos from a few famous rockstars in this book too!!

All in all this was an amazeballs book! I loved every moment of it and I certainly cannot wait for Xander's story!!

So I finished Connected right?? and this was me!

So I freaked out and I said KIM HOW COULD YOU ?????

But unlike a lot of other people I was lucky. I could just pick up Torn and dive right in.

Lets say the next emotion was this after hearing all the 'half truths and lies' from Ben.

Give me a freaking break dude...how sleezy can you get to fake a death and act like your some freaking martyr and that you did it for her! Grow the *&(&K up!

Take that you lying cheat a$$hole!!

Yea Sorry folks no sympathy here for Ben..NOPE I didn't have moments of "oh poor baby..nope..I wanted to do this!

So Yea get my drift?

Torn pretty much pissed me off in the beginning. But notice I haven't mentioned River yet....savoring River is like savoring sweet chocolate. I just want to keep his name in my mouth a little longer.

River and Dahlia just completely belonged together and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that they'd make it to their HEA and I can tell you that Kim has her work cut out for her in trying to redeem Ben later in his book. There were so many sad and heart wrenching moments in this book but when she put the passion on the page...it still Sizzled!

I loved their dialogue and how they just always seem to express their feelings for each other so beautifully. I still hear River when he says "really" and "beautiful" ..if you haven't guessed by now I am a huge River fan...yum.

My favorite scene.......

Can I play?? Of course I'd have to ask Dahlia to go fetch a beer and maybe get lost on the way....oh River..sweet River.

Want to know a secret my sweet River?

I can't wait for more from Kim Karr and would you like to know why??

XANDER!!

Give me XANDER NOW!!!

I'm rooting for my boy River, Ben is such a cocky bastard that hopefully Dahl realizes it! I know Ben is going to fight what he thinks is his, but he lost it when he decided to "die".

My boy River, he made me proud. As for Ben I still want the fucker to die. But hey, it happened my way so I'm all good.

I love you. This doesn’t change anything,” I whisper, feeling strongly that he needs to know this.

“It changes everything, Dahlia.”

Uh Oh!!

I’ve been looking forward to reading this book for about half a year. At the end of Connected we had a very happy ending but the epilogue was a real SHOCKER and I’ve been dying to see how this story would progress after those revelations.

Right at the beginning of Torn, we have a fleeting moment of absolute, pure happiness. River and Dahlia have put the pain of the past behind them, are very much in love and have moved on happily and productively and are now planning a future together. We had a marriage proposal at the end of Connected and everything looks rosy but the rug is about to be ripped, savagely, from under them and everything is about to go to hell in hand basket PDQ.

The shocking revelation will test River and Dahlia’s relationship and their trust in one another and will undermine the very basis of their connection. This is still very much a love story but it’s more a glimpse of what happens after the Happy Ever After – how they can continue to sustain that amazing love they have for one another when faced with unexpected and very challenging complications.

A memory suddenly flashes before my eyes—the first time I saw River’s gorgeous silhouette across the bar, his intense gaze, our instant connection. Is it gone?

Walking into the living room I pick up his guitar and strum my fingers along the strings. When I look at the glass table now broken into a thousand tiny pieces, I think, You were wrong, River, we are in pieces.

This actually made me feel more sad than all the tragedy that Dahlia endures at the beginning of Connected. I absolutely believe in true love and I am a romance addict and I find it so sad that a couple who are obviously soul mates and destined for one another can suddenly find doubt and mistrust creeping in and tarnishing their beautiful connection. That Happy Ever After seems to be drifting ever further out of reach.

This was such an emotional read and it was so beautifully written. I was so invested in these two, so desperate for them to be happy and they both tried so hard to make things work but neither of them are perfect and much of this book centred around their instinctive reactions to the events and revelations around them and while Connected was more about River slowly getting Dahlia to trust and love him, Torn is more about maintaining that deep connection that they share against all the odds. They will be tested, severely tested, and you have to have faith as you read this that true love really will conquer all as they struggle to stay together.

This was beautifully paced, it never dragged and it was never rushed – plenty of time was given for each character to react to each new event in the story and, as a reader, this is so important to me. I need to be able to feel their emotions and I definitely did here as the story is told from their alternating POV and we get to see just what is going through both Dahlia and River’s head as the story unfolds. I fully understood everything they did, the misunderstandings and the mistrust and I longed for them to just talk and to accept what was happening around them and to face it together as a united couple.

It’s very romantic, River really is just so dreamy, and the sex is still WHITE-HOT with River getting slightly more dominant and commanding in the bedroom – HAWT! That physical connection that they share really is always there and they are able to solve a lot of their problems with some pretty steamy, pantie-melting make-up sex!

So, as I look back over Connected and Torn as a complete story together, I’d have to say that this is just a beautiful love story between River and his beautiful girl and the message here is trust and faith in one another, even after the apparent Happy Ever After, despite all the obstacles and hurdles life can throw at you.

4.5 beautiful romantic stars

Oh where to start. I loved River and Dahlia from the very first few pages of Connected. The emotions Kim Karr manages to evoke are vivid and she never ceases to deliver a passionate, heartfelt, steamy and emotional read.

I could not believe the cliffhanger we had at the end of Connected and Torn couldn't come soon enough for me. I was excited to continue the journey of River and Dahlia but also a little anxious as to if the depth and intensity could deliver as I wanted.

I needn't have worried, it was everything I wanted and more. The tension is palpable and the feelings are believable. it isn't all hearts and flowers as it wouldn't be so sweet when it all comes together in the end.

I didn't know how Dahlia could possibly begin to understand the situation. I felt so sad for her and really thought it might be a tough choice. Having to choose, making that decision. But, in the end, she made me happy and her heart won out. True love really does conquer all even if it has some speed bumps along the way.

River, *sigh* he is just as adorable, sexy and thoughtful as he always has been. You could really feel the situation eating up at him. Worried about losing his girl, his everything, his once in a lifetime. He struggled so damn much and fought every step of the way even when it seemed impossible.

There may be lots of drama, but it is totally rounded off by the intense, beautiful, steamy scenes that we have come to know and anticipate from Kim Karr. They're not only sexy, but deep and meaningful. It's what keeps them connected to their very core and I have no doubt that they could overcome anything that's thrown their way.

"More-we say that to each other all the time, but it's not about who loves the other more, it's simply that we love each other more than words can possibly express. And nothing or no one can ever change that."

Lots of issues are put to bed and the future looks bright for River and Dahlia. There are still a few little issues unresolved with the secondary characters, but never fear, these issues will be addressed in Kim's future books. So stay tuned and make sure you're a part of this deeply emotional rollercoaster!

Torn is certainly one of the most anticipated books of the year as we are left hanging with our mouths opened wide, SCREAMING OMG at the conclusion of Connected. With that said, it is SO WORTH THE WAIT!!!! Kim Karr rocks it once again as we become entangled with her characters, their lives and their emotions.
When reading this book, one must asks oneself, "can a once in a life time happen twice?" Dahlia finally has her life back after losing the only man she had been with, until River makes another appearance and entwines himself into her life. River, after wondering if he will ever lay eyes on this girl, who immediately stole his heart, is given that chance. Dahlia, his muse, has arrived and is planning on staying. That is until Ben walks back into their lives. Their world as they know it has certainly been "rocked" and "torn".
As you may guess, Dahlia is understandably shocked and it takes her a while to process this...BEN IS ALIVE!!! Not only that, she begins to learn how everything and everyone is "connected." As a result, she loses her ability to trust and to some extent loses her ability to properly communicate.
River, too, is dealing with his own realization of Ben's appearance and the trust issues which follow. For the first time, he is questioning his relationship with Dahlia. BUT, have no fear, River is as SWOON WORTHY as ever!!! He is very YUMMY ladies and will continue to serenade you to giddiness!!!
Then there is Ben. Seeing Ben deal with the realization, River's and Dahlia's love is real, makes him more determined to reclaim what he feels is rightfully his. Dahlia and Ben have a lot of history together which is not easy to forget.
Kim Karr does a BRILLIANT job in portraying all the characters' struggles. It is heartbreaking to witness these struggles but at the same time, it is heartwarming to see how much they truly love one another. Talk about an emotional world wind! Torn will have you sobbing, SCREAMING, laughing, smiling, frustrated and horny as Hell!!! There is no denying real life passion which is perfectly played out by Kim Karr through her characters and their compelling story of "love."
It is a must read, 5 star plus book!!!!!

Torn is worth 5+++ stars. I honestly don't have any idea how to review this book but I'm going to try to do it justice. I have so much to say about Dahlia's story but I don't want to spoil it by saying too much. The first book, Connected, left me needing this book so much after the crazy cliffhanger. Torn is something I'm so glad I read right away without reading any reviews. I wanted a completely fresh, unbiased perspective. It's a story that I couldn't imagine being able to put down, I guess that's evident since I devoured it. There was no other way for me to get through it than to read the entire book in one sitting. Torn is captivating, painful, passionate, and honest. The title suggests the most obvious torn relationship but the story takes us beyond the obvious and explores many parts of Dahlia and the others for that matter who are irrevocably torn. I deeply felt every moment of love, pain, betrayal, and loyalty because of Kim Karr's excellent writing. She flawlessly executes the plot and leaves you breathless, scorned, and happy throughout. River Wilde is exquisitely charismatic and so easy to fall in love with especially because he's so enchanted with Dahlia. And Dahlia is so easy to be enchanted by; strong and sure, beautifully broken. Torn is an amazing journey. It made me laugh and cry; breaking my heart and warming it at the same time. Much like Dahlia London herself, from the words of River Wilde, Torn quite simply is "perfect, really".

*Don’t read this if you haven’t read the first book!*

5 'I <3 River’ Stars!!!

“...what we have will never be torn apart.”

Wow...that an emotional and amazing book! I loved it even more than the first one! It wraps up River and Dahlia’s story.

Everything between River and Dahlia is great...they are happy together and ready for the next step in their relationship. But when they both thought nothing can go wrong...everything changes with just one phone call. Yes, Ben is alive (I was absolutely shocked)!

River and Dahlia’s relationship is put on the ultimate test. River feels insecure and Dahlia is confused and struggles with the fact that Ben is back. But she had already moved on and found her true soul mate. Now she just has to prove to him that everything she feels is real and he is not just a substitute (as Ben is trying to convince him). But it won’t be easy. There is lots of drama, lots of broken stuff and lots of mistakes.

“A long time ago, I wished for you and now I have you. See . . . wishes really do come true even if you tell someone your wish.”

I didn’t know it was possible but I loved River even more in this book. He is amazing! I am not ready to say goodbye to him. I need at least ten more books about this couple. Their love story is so beautiful...

I couldn’t force myself to like Ben. I just can’t find the logic in some of his actions. I know there will be a book which will focus on him and I am not sure I want to read it.

I definitely recommend this series. Give River a chance. He is worth it ;)

I don't know where to begin. I didn't just read this book - I felt this book emotionally. I didn't just read about the characters and story lines - I became part of their lives and felt their pain and joy. I didn't just like this book - I LOVED this book. This is a series worth reading - Dahlia and River are truly meant for each other - you should definitely read this book and enjoy their journey, and all the ups and downs, with them. I can't wait to read the next in the series!

Initial reaction: Well, at least I gave it a good go. Suffice to say this is the end of the series for me. I can't with much of what happened in this. The writing is a little more structured and organized, but the story is just unbelievable and inauthentic in so many ways.

Full review:

As a reader, sometimes you have the ability to change your mind about the things you read if curiosity beckons enough and you think the experience may improve as a series goes on. I have a rule of 2-3 on some books in a series if the first doesn't strike me as much as I would like (unless some aspect about the book completely turns me off.) I thought about this when I saw it as a galley, and figured "Maybe, just maybe it might improve. I won't know unless I try."

I can say one positive thing about picking up "Torn" - the second in the "Connections" series from Kim Karr - the writing was a little better in this installation than the first book. It was easier to tell who was speaking, it was easier to follow some of the emotional tensions and plot details compared to the first book. But the plot was ridiculous - it was emotionally manipulative and trite. It didn't feel all that authentic or real at all. I guess coming off the heels of the last book where it felt like the plot "jumped the shark" - I shouldn't have been surprised, but I really wanted to see if this book could present the plot in a way that had some promise. I think in retrospect it actually could've worked well and recovered, but there were too many factors that worked against it.

Might as well rip off the band-aid on this to start: Ben's back. He was proposed as dead in the last book. Suffice to say, River and Dahlia are not happy. Dahlia's devastated all over again because she's eloped with River and thinks she can move on with her life, even after a violent attack which she recovers from towards the beginning of the book. But when Ben returns, to say that a can of worms is opened doesn't even scratch the surface.

I could understand Dahlia being upset, angry, even emotionally numb from the revelations handed down, but the reactions here were so shallow and really made the characters feel like caricatures than real people reacting to some seriously messed up circumstances (which, to be fair - I could see it happening. I really could, but not the way the book makes it out to be - it was melodramatic in the worst possible way).

Another issue: too many music references here. They overwhelmed the narrative and made it far more heavy than it should've been for the read. I understand crafting atmosphere, and given River's profession, I realized the connection. But usually too many pop culture references aren't evocative of the kind of emotion one thinks by mere mention in a written work, it doesn't work the same way as in a movie. They do have to serve a purpose and it can be hard to give the kind of intimacy if the songs are tossed around as casually as they were in this book, and for sheer number. It wasn't that I didn't know the music references here - far from it. I've listened to (and like) quite many of the artists here, and I'm totally a fan of book soundtracks. But it was too much. Too much. If even the author had taken the number of songs down to ten *total* in the mention of the work - it probably wouldn't have made the narrative as weighted down as it was.

But back to the characters: they're hard to like. Ben's journals make him seem nothing more than a selfish jerk who wants to reclaim everything he lost in his life at the drop of a hat. River and Dhalia, admittedly, have pretty darned good reason to be mad at him for barging in the way he does. I don't understand how Ben couldn't have been more sensitive to how emotionally jarring the reunion would be, that when a person moves on, they move on. Dahlia believed he was dead, as did his family. He recognizes this verbally, but his actions seem to portray otherwise.

And of course, River and Ben go at each other's throats to defend their "girl" and no one thinks to tell Dahlia until after the fact. *facepalms*

The sex scenes were sporadic, awkward in their insertions, and NOT sexy. Vivid, perhaps, but not conveying intimacy very well. I would say they were more formulaic and put in the moment as a tension builder, rather than having any kind of payoff or release.

Some of the turns of events in the story did surprise me for their respective nature, but the path getting there didn't feel like it came together very well at all. I think the emotional gravity of some of the reveals and resulting actions (including the death of a familiar character), were shortchanged as a result.

In all things, I do hope the series quality improves as it goes along, but - yeah, suffice to say this needed a lot more work done before hitting primetime, and it just didn't work for what it was aiming for, imho.

Overall score: 1/5 stars.

Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher Penguin Group.

Connected had one of the worst cliffhangers I have ever read. I am not usually completely blindsided but man after reading that last chapter I was left with a WTF face! So when I saw Torn on Netgalley I just had to grab it and devour it to see what happened when Dahlia found out Ben was alive. I guess I kind of got what I wanted, but this book which looking back and remembering the first one is filled with way too many "I Love You More's" than the drama that I craved.

Ben being alive was HUGE! I never expected him to come back and when I started this book I just knew there was going to be some DRAMA! What we get though is small drama and the drama that I really wanted to delve more into got sidelined by Dahlias and Rivers need to bite each other and have hot angry sex all over the place. Oh temper tantrums! So many tantrums we are grown people! Sorry got side tracked with a rant...Ben back to Ben first...I know he was gone for three years but Dahlia had to have had some kind of lingering feelings for him. Did I want her to end up with NO but I wanted her to acknowledge that they were engaged and that yes she still loved him. What he did was wrong and she had every right to be angry, but they needed to at least talk about what happened. I just don't think feelings go away like she said they do. I wanted closure darn it! Don't get me wrong, Ben was a dog and I thought he was a dog in the first book but I really wanted to see them come to terms with their relationship. I guess maybe I have read too many NA books were the guys fight for what they want. Ben didn't really fight, he just let River have her. And again I didn't want Dahlia to end up with Ben, but I still wanted to see the fight. Honestly though I didn't care where Dahlia ended up I just didn't want to see River hurt. He was a great guy who did everything he could to protect her and he didn't deserve to be hurt.

My biggest problem with this book was the overflowing love between Dahlia & River. I swear of you took out all the pages where they were either confessing their love to each other or deciding that they just needed to talk to each other and tell them they were the one and the happy/angry sex scenes this book would have only been about 50 pages. I love steam don't get me wrong and River is steamy but I need story too, not just tantrums and sex. The first book was all about Dahlia coming to terms with the death of Ben and this book was just about her and River becoming stronger in the face of so many obstacles and that I liked but the delivery just wasn't there for me.

Oh and the BIG bomb that was dropped I suspected from the get go so I wasn't surprised but I am surprised that it was swept under the rug. What's the point in bringing up a life altering situation if it is just going to be forgotten ten pages later? Maybe it will be brought up in the next book which is Xanders but I highly doubt it. This series is going to be long and the next book is about Xander which I am not sure I am excited about. I am not a fan of his so I will have to think about reading his book.

Darkly romantic and deeply emotional, Torn was a brilliant follow up to Connected. The romance was hot and the drama was intense and I absolutely loved it!

Dahlia went through a lot in this book. At the end of book 1, she had gotten herself together and moved on from her past. Only to have her past dive right back into her life. She was definitely strong in dealing with it all. Despite all the emotions that were overwhelming her, she refused to let anyone make decision for her and stayed true to what she wanted. I liked her in book 1 and I liked her even more in this book.

River was just as wonderful. He's still his sweet self, totally adorable and swoon-worthy. But, the reemergence of Ben hit his crazy button. He gets jealous and insecure, terrified that Dahlia will go back to her first love. It made him get possessive and quick-tempered. But, despite all that, he was still the sweet and loving River that we all fell for in book 1. We find out what secrets he's been hiding and why. It might have bothered me that he kept things from Dahlia, but his reasons were legitimate and he never intended up purposely hiding things from her. He was just put in a very bad position and he did his best with it. So, rather than getting annoyed by it, it made me like him better. We get a deeper look into him and see more sides to him. And, seeing then all made me adore him even more.

The romance was on fire. Dahlia and River's chemistry is even hotter in this book, with all the intense emotion circulating around. It was fan-your-face hot when these two went at it. There were definitely obstacles in their relationship in this book. Dahlia has to get past her confusion and River has to get past his jealousy. But, what made these two so sweet together was that, despite all the fighting and drama and secrets, they never doubted each other's feelings and never gave up on each other. It was so sweet and that's what makes this couple so brilliant.

Ben...
At first, I kind of wanted to smack him. First, for doing something so stupid as to fake his own death, which ended up hurting all his loved ones. Then, for being so flippant about the girls he was using as a replacement for Dahlia. They all have feelings, too. Then, for having the audacity to think he could just return to his old life and have Dahlia fall back into his arms. And, finally, for what he did when he was still with Dahlia and who it was with. I sincerely feel like he needed a reality check. And, he got one. But, beyond those annoyances, we see that he's also rather sweet and he really was devoted to Dahlia, in his own special way. I ended up liking him enough to be curious about what happens in his story, which we'll be getting in a later book. We'll see how he manages to redeem himself.

The plot was faced paced and I was hooked the entire way through. The drama had me on the edge of my seat. The emotions were deep and real and I felt every one of them. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was perfect. I can't wait to read more from this series.

Torn was a perfect sequel and a fantastic New Adult read. I absolutely loved this book! Fans of Connected, you won't be disappointed with this continuation of River and Dahlia's story. And, for those you haven't started this series, you really should, because it's amazing.

ARC PROVIDED BY THE AUTHOR

We have all read them the books that stay with you.The one book that comes to your mind the moment someone poses the question "What book gripped you?" It was Connected for me and now Torn has joined the ranks.I fell in a love/hate relationship with Kim Karr during her first book I thought there would be no way she would ever play with my emotions the way she did during Connected.Yes like all of you after I finished Connected I open mouthed drooled over myself while repeatedly whisper yelling No No No!Ok, there might have been a "That bitch" (saying this with awe) in there.Lets move to present day when I started Torn and was brought back to half the time seeing Kim in a meadow with a halo around her head and the other half in a dark basement evilly cackling while feverishly writing screaming "and for my next trick my pretty ones." It shouldn't be right how one person can hold the power to have you feeling so in love one minute, heart beating out of your chest the next to just pissed off at everyone for no reason at all or for every damn reason. Honestly how my kindle survived without grip marks amazes me- as many times during this read I had to mentally tell myself ease up there princess and just freaking breathe.

What can I say about River, he is the book boyfriend that every time he opens his mouth or does something sweet you just fall a little more in love. He is thoughtful, caring and loyal beyond belief. I don't think I have highlighted so much in a book, but I just had to capture what was happening with him and Dahlia. I wanted to remember my favorite parts- I just didn't realize I would have pages of them. I enjoyed seeing a little more possessiveness out him in Torn. With everything that happened he never faltered in his love and ability to protect and trust me there was a lot to happen (yes you have to read it to find out) between all of them.

description

More gushing to follow I know, I know just stay with me the Kim Karr love fest is about over.

Not to often do you find a book with such strong characters both male and female.Dahlia was just as strong minded and loyal as River.Yes at parts I cringed, at parts I thought WTF are you doing (insert major Kindle gripage) to plenty of I can't finish this I just cant go on, but just remember although she tears you down she won't leave you there for long.

"There are no Pieces,I promise You"

description

If you thought she wowed you in the first book then let's just say she put on her big girl panties in the second book and said GAME ON.The story is beautiful. The writing is flawless and Kim is a genius. You have a true fan (perhaps stalker) forever (draws an x over my heart). Thank You for this journey into seeing your love for writing play out in your books this isn't just a read its a true experience.

I need this to come out now!! Ben can't just waltz back into her life after pretending he was dead for 3 years! He needs to accept the fact that she has moved on and move on himself. He forfeited any right he had when he "died" and left her alone and heartbroken....

WARNING: This review will contain spoilers for book #1!

*swoooon* Rock star romance. Seriously. There is just something so swoonworthy about them!

5 stars for River and Dahlia!

"A long time ago, I wished for you and now I have you. See... wishes really do come true even if you tell someone your wish."

This book picks up exactly where Connected ended. And thank Christ for that. Connected left us with a brutal cliffhanger and I just couldn't work out how this book was going to pan out. I just love River and Dahlia together and despite my tears over Ben's death, his reappearance, and the effect that would have on River and Dahlia, terrified me! And then the title, Torn to boot and I was so scared that Dahlia would be jumping between Ben and River. I do enjoy a good, juicy love triangle, but they also scare the living crap out of me, so I was quite nervous about this.

Relationships are made up of so many different emotions, but the one thing that keeps a relationship strong is love. Can doubt weaken such a strong bond? Not if two people don't let it - right?

So in Torn we see the return of Ben. Just to recap... Ben Covington is Dahlia's ex-fiance. Ben and Dahlia grew up together and were engaged to be married when Ben was supposedly shot dead three years ago, at the beginning of Connected. However, at the end of the first book, we get to read Ben's journal that he has evidently been keeping whilst he has been living a secret life in New York, faking his death and hiding from the people that are after him. So Connected ends with the minor bombshell Ben is, in fact, alive! And Torn is the story of how Dahlia deals with having her first love and her current love, both in her life at the same time.

This book ripped me to pieces. But not in the way I thought it would. There is a great quote that Kim Karr has included in the back of this book, that was sent to her from one of her beta-readers. I think this sums it up really well...
"I keep thinking of the saying 'after the wedding the marriage begins' and it kind of holds true for falling in love as well, because that is the easy part. It is after that the relationship begins and all the work that comes with it. And that is definitely what Torn is about for me."

Dahlia and River and hopelessly in love with one another, but honestly, these two just can not catch a break. One dreaded phonecall after another, one traumatic incident after another. It's exhausting, but gripping. I couldn't put it down.

"What it comes down to is that unless you tell me you still love him, there is nothing we can't work out."

One of my pet hates is annoying misunderstanings. There were a few mis-communications in this book, but, for the first time ever, I think, they really worked. This book is actually a lot about the communication, or lack thereof, between two people in a relationship. The mess it can cause when two people don't listen to one another or don't share everything, the insecurities that raise their ugly heads and eventually, the resolution that only honesty and trust can provide.

We both trust each other because, after all, isn't that what love is - knowing someone can crush you, but believing they never will, trusting them not to?

It broke my heart to see both Dahlia and River suffering. Their worries and arguments were totally valid. The things they go through in this book would test even the strongest, longest-standing relationships. It was completely understandable that they would argue and the strain would get to them.

"I want to believe your love is only for me. That your lips are mine. That your kisses are meant for me. That your body belongs to me." His arms move to my waist and tighten around me and he presses his hard body against mine. "But when you leave me to see him, it's hard to know for sure."

Let's talk about Ben. I truly was totally torn when it came to Ben. In that respect, this book could not have been entitled better.

See, as we've established, I adore River and I think he and Dahlia are perfect together. However, Ben... here is a man with absolutely nothing. He was forced to give up the life he knew due to an error in judgement. He is finally allowed to return to his life, which he thought he would never be able to do, and nothing is the same for him. The woman he has always loved and hoped would still love him back, is deeply in love with somebody else, he has no job, his family have their own problems and he is just a sad, desperate man, not knowing which way to turn.

"Brigitte told me once that in France they don't say I missed you, they say you were missing from me, and you were."

I have to admit, as much as I didn't want Dahlia to leave River, my heart did break for Ben. I know he isn't all good, he has made mistakes and done wrong, but jeez, who hasn't, right?! I don't know whether or not we are supposed to like him or hate him, or whether the author wants us to experience the internal battle over our feelings for Ben, but I really did. I believe we do get Ben's full story in book #3, and I can't wait.

“I try to understand why death takes a person from you, but not the relationship. It leaves you to carry on with only half of what you need to make things whole.”

I have to mention that I absolutely love all the references to familiar names in these books. Absolute genius, Kim! She mentions a couple of our favourite fictional rockstars, including Jake Wethers and Kellan Kyle and there are also some book-blog names scattered about, mine included, Aestas, Reality Bites, etc. It's a real fun addition to the book and a great tribute to this fabulous indie-author community that we have all become a part of and that has brought us all together.

So that's pretty much it, in a nutshell. I'm really, really enjoying this series. It's incredibly hot, adorably cute, a whole lot mysterious and a little bit of everything wrapped up in a very engaging package. And let's not forget, a super sexy rockstar hero with a heart of gold.
I love River and Dahlia and the brilliant cast of surrounding characters promises more great stories to come from Kim Karr.

"To women who think they're all that, may their boobs drop at a young age."

3 torn stars....

I've been looking forward to this book and I'm a bit disappointed, well, more than a bit really.

The book continues where it left off in the first book. Dahlia found out that Ben is alive, and wants her back... and so the story is about how this is affecting Dahlia and River's relationship.

I'm sorry, but this was just exhausting! The tantrums, the running away! Oi!!! They said "I love you's!" I don't know how many times and then the urgent sex just so they will not be talking! This book is frustrating!!!!

Dahlia's reaction with Ben I get it, betrayed, hurt, angry, blah blah, I get it.... but her reaction on River's insecurity, for her to slap him, NOOOOO!!!!

But I'm glad to put closure on Dahlia and River's story and I'm a sucker for happy ending.
