This is a very good, well written, Hybrid/Human romance. This is a good start for a new series by one of the best authors I enjoy reading. The characters are well developed and lovable. Jenna just finished culinary school and wants to open her own bakery. She is recruited on a secret project and gets the opportunity to open a bakery. Read and learn how Noble becomes her helper and partner.
A creative new series written by Alana Khan will have you reading and rereading this gem of a book! I was blown away at the plot with its inventive premise. Welcome to THE SPLICED…a hybrid man/animal experiment that was exposed for its cruelty by an outside lab. The government frees the occupants but what to do with them? Socialize them with human women that will teach them a job skill but things go a bit sideways when romance hits the air. I loved this clever tale a superior twist on the paranormal genre. Excellent read! Alana, don’t make us wait too long for Book 2! Personally I’m hoping for the Naga. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice start to the ever growing Alanaverse! Jenna signs on for a secret program for two years. The pros-Debt cancellation and the salary. The cons-No contact with family or friends. When she sees what they're here for, she can't believe her eyes. Help "them" become more social? Help "them" be able to generate commerce of their own? They've NEVER even seen or smelled a female?! To say these guys are animals is exactly right because the DNA doesn't lie! Well, there comes a time when a girl has to put on her big girl panties and Hawaiian shirt and do what she has to do. Noble is on alert, his kind knows nothing good ever happens to them. When they told them that they were free. Then they told them about the females coming to "help" them acclimate to the new world. He'd only ever seen a female on the TV shows but he's totally unprepared for how he feels about the little human. His little human. He needs to learn a trade and she's something called a Baker, so Baker it is. The only thing is, Splicers don't like sweets. Well, Noble is sure he'll like one sweet and he can't wait to taste her. As it was stated, "Love always finds a way," With a few laughs and some spicy Splicer heat and even a glimpse into the future, we see what lovely path love can take. Did I enjoy it? Yes.
When the US government rescues experimental hybrid humans, their plan to integrate them into society, begins with introducing them to the women who will teach them a marketable skill. And that's where Jenna comes in: as a baker, she is all set to teach Noble, the art of making baked treats. It's not long before there's more than just the kitchen's heat between them...
This is a lighthearted tale of new beginnings and second chances. Where Jenna needs a place to begin from, Noble is being given the opportunity to have the things he never had. This is a sweet romance, fast to read, quick to heat up, and pure lighthearted fun for the reader. It's a great option for the sci-fi romance or monster romance (and even some paranormal romance) fans, who want something sugary sweet and happy: because this is definitely a happy story!
Every book is a great world building experience. Her characters are interesting and described well. These books just make you excited to read the next in the series.
I loved this. Finally a book where the military is the good guys. It so cute! I wonder if they will have women that are in trades like construction, electricians, mechanics, or door companies. They will need to learn how to install and repair things and I volunteer myself. Well, as long as I can bring my kids. They need to get used to teenagers too right? Maybe the next batch. I'm excited to read the rest of this series.
This is a great start to Alana Khan's new series about genetically engineered hybrids who are part-man, part-animal. It raises some interesting questions about how you integrate people into every-day society after they've been living in exploitive situations. How do you give a lethal, highly-trained soldier/apex predator the skills to move from unwavering obedience to self-awareness and personal fulfillment? It's an interesting problem, and surprisingly, we find the process of rehabilitation led by a dedicated, if somewhat by-the-book U.S. armed forces colonel. The premise is ingenious and the solution requires the help of strong-willed women who can see past the social miscues (and the fangs and tails) of the hybrid males and give them a chance at a new life, albeit in an artificially constructed small town with a Disneyland Main Street feel to it. There are some hilarious moments in the book, as Jenna tries to teach Noble, her hybrid mentee, the fine art of baking. Coming up with cupcake flavors that satisfy the cravings of humans and hybrids is no small task, but Jenna is up to the challenge, after a setback or two. Who knew that rodent-flavored icing was a thing? All the characters have to do some rethinking about themselves and their relationships, but it's definitely worth the effort to find happiness, even if you have to wear a Hawaiian shirt to do it.
I received an advance reader copy of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.
Another great series only Alana could come up with! A military experiment gone rogue, the 100 men/animals, or splicers, from the experiment finally freed, and trying to teach them to be something besides the animals they have been treated like their whole lives. Three years into their “training” the first 20 are deemed ready to be trained for a skill to support themselves and socialize around women. What could possibly go wrong?
Jenna has always wanted to be a baker since she was a small child. Her dream of opening her own bakery is just that, a dream. Drowning in student debt, she is enticed into a two-year commitment with the military in exchange for forgiveness for her student loans and a hefty salary. How could she refuse? When she and 19 other young women are loaded into a bus in Texas and driven for hours into the middle of nowhere, she starts having her doubts about what she signed up for. When they find out what is really going on, they are all totally freaked out, but are locked in the town with no way out and no form of communication.
The first meeting of the splicers and the women is hilarious! What is touching is how they learn to interact with each other as each woman is assigned an assistant or trainee to help them get their new businesses up and running. A great book full of emotion, laughter and plenty of drama! Don’t miss it!
1.5 stars. This was a ham and cheese fest of a read. I read a lot of crazy, but even I couldn’t suspend belief for this one. The premise of the book is the current USA government found a bunch of animal spliced men who were created to be soldiers. These guys have never been around women. The government wants to socialize them and gets the bright idea to hire a bunch of woman to teach them various life skills top secretly. None of the women know what they are signing up for outside of having the guarantee that their student debt will be erased and they will get a $200,000 payout. They also will be cut off from the outside world for two years.
The woman are shocked when they find out about the guys, but get use to it quickly. In the hoopla of all of this you have a military colonel who doesn’t want any fraternization between the spliced men and woman. So many questions on what the ultimate plan was with scenario. Why weren’t trained military women brought in for this?
This whole book reads very hammy. It’s mildly entertaining to read like watching a poor quality made for TV movie. I don’t see myself continuing the series as I can’t get past the lackluster story telling and premise.
Noble is a half-man/half-lion “super soldier,” one of many who the military rescues from the bunker of a rogue military scientist and now must try to integrate them into every-day society. Enter a whole ‘nother kind of military recruit!
Jenna desperately needs money -- $98,317 to be exact -- and dreams of owning her own high-end bakery someday. In exchange for having her debt paid off and a $100,000 salary, she decides to accept the super-top-secret offer from the military to live in a remote, desert town for the next two years. Jenna and Noble are paired up with a dual purpose: To teach him how to live among human females and to learn a trade as a baker.
Will they be able to stick to the plan or will their working together result in far more success for the “Splicers” than anyone could have foreseen?
A Sweet & Savory start to the "Hybrid Hearts" series.
Exciting New Series - So Many Possibilities Here!!
Jenna is a soon-to-be pastry chef, who has volunteered for a somewhat secretive 2-year program. She just knows her student debt will be cleared and she will bring in a large salary. When this contract is over, she can open her own bakery.
She and nineteen other women are bussed to a remote area. Turns out there were experiments to create super soldiers, using animal DNA. The resulting men/splicers display animal characteristics and have been socialized only with other men. The women are to assist in further socialization, teaching their particular skillset, while keeping a no fraternization rule in place.
Noble is an obvious lion splicer. He displays more attributes than some of the others. He is immediately attracted to Jenna and works to court her. Humorous, romantic and delightful read.
***** I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book *****
I love this new World that Alana has built for us! The military saves some "splicers" as they call themselves and to help them get ready to be integrated into society (or see if it's even possible) they bring women to an old movie set in the middle of Texas. A 2 year contract to help these splicers socialize. The military, being the military lol, doesn't consider what would happen if they had some mating vibes. In this case, our Lion-man really wants his baker from day 1. He helps is learning how to open her bakery as well as become a baker. I'd say this book is sweet yet spicy!!
Wow, what an amazing new series. Alana has such an incredible mind to have come up with this astonishing intriguing plot. Males who have been rescued and rehabilitated now learn they are to be integrated with human females in order to evolve in society.
Finding love was never on Jenna's mind, but when she agrees to teach Noble how to bake, well it definitely gets heated. In and out of the kitchen.
This was such a joy to read. The world building and characters are incredible........ And addictive
Alana I can't emphasize enough, but wow!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Very sweet new series by this imaginative author. As with all of her stories, you have to feel sympathy for the males as they have not been treated very well. It's understandable that they would easily love someone who finally does treat them like people. In this case, reading about Noble trying the baked foods was hilarious because he knew he wasn't going to like them but he didn't want to offend Jenna. Overall, just a sweet and fun quick read with a nice HEA ending in the epilogue. Can't wait for the next one.
This was a fab series opener and I love the idea of a hybrid man having to learn a trade and also how to integrate into society...and ending up falling in love ;P Jenna had a huge student debt and this seriously crimped her dream of owning her own bakery - until the govt offers to pay off her debt and pay her a big salary to mentor Noble as a baker. Of course, nothing goes as planned when the chemistry between them sparked off the page ;) Love sure did find a way and how their story unfolded was highly entertaining. I can't wait for the next story to come out :D
Well that was fun! Noble lived up to his name, and he was adorable to boot! OMG, the cupcake scene! Wait for it! You will burst out laughing! Jenna is open minded and feels so much for Noble and the other splicers as she discovers their sad past. These two characters were sweethearts and a lot of fun together. The colonel? Not so much. He needs to remove his stick and smack himself with it a few times! The other splicers have lots of potential, and I can’t wait until we get to that crazy fox-man! I am really looking forward to the next book in the series!
This series seems like a softer, gentler, version of Lorann Dohnner’s “New Species” series. Humans spliced with animal DNA have to learn to control their baser natures if they want human women in their lives. The women have to set aside what they think they know and learn to interact with the males in ways that include their animal natures. In this case it means developing an entire line of meat based savory cupcakes. I look forward to seeing what the other women come up with too.
A rouge government agency has created human animal hybrids. They were rescued and are being trained to function in the real world. This is a where some desperate women who have been enticed to this training camp with the promise of huge amounts of money.
After a scary first meeting Noble and Jenna learn each other while getting a bakery running and dealing with an overbearing commander.
Of course this pair beat the odds and find their happy for now.
I highly recommend you check this book out. Wonderful, unique characters. Well written, interesting concepts. Military funding misused to create hybrid, humans. At least the government steps up to make things right for the poor mistreated males and unwittingly provide them with mates. I look forward to reading more books in this series and discover more of the story and the other character's stories.
Captivating new series. Rogue military experiments gone way off the rails lead to the creation of Splicers- half man, half animal. But now they gave been rescued and acclimated to human lifestyle. What results is both funny and heart warming as human women are brought in to socialize and teach them job skills. I loved this unique storyline and can’t wait to read more in the future books. Devoured in one sitting. Definitely recommend.
I loved the characters Jenna and Noble they were so real that they could have just stepped off the pages of this book. The storyline is different from any I have read before. Aliens making hybrids, yes, but nothing like this. It is so original, yet the story draws you in and keeps you wanting more. The romance is sweet, super hot, and I loved every page. Please pick up a copy. You will be incredibly glad that you did.
I loved this new series and I can't wait to read the rest.
Our MMC Noble is indeed quite noble. The story is a love story, focusing on the brooding relationship between the MCs. The MMC might have a beast spliced into his genes, but he was more than that. It makes me no wonder that he was able to make her fall in love with him.
I was asking myself what their future might be liked and the author provided that sweet treats at the end.
First off just big fat no’s all around. The premise is laughably dumb. They would have brought military females in. I don’t mind fun weird things but I have to have some slight belief in the story and there is no reasoning or rationale to explain why no introductions to females were done military wise. This also has no real reaction like a military would.. I just can’t put aside belief that strongly to enjoy the story for what it is.
If the military offered you a large amount of money for two years of your life would you accept? Jump into the newest, top secret world of Alana Khan where misunderstanding, humor, sizzle and the ever present military abound. Great plot and wonderful characters captured my interest from the first page.
When Nobel first spotted Jenna, he had eyes for nobody else. He thought her such a tiny, defenceless yet the most perfect female ever. She, on the other hand was terrified of him. Fortunately it didn’t take long to realize first impressions can be wrong. Frustrations explodes due to senseless rules.
A sweet story full of confections, fear, strength, angst, slow burn steam, risk and wonderful rewards. Alana has created an amazing splitter world so well described, I felt like I was right in the midst of the story. Her characters are rich and comfortable to be around. I am excited to know there will be more stories to come.
A very interesting new series. I loved the context for the story, with all the Spliced being created by crazy cientists and how they were rescued. The slow intriduction to society also makes Sense, in the general picture it could really be true and I loved how things evolved from there. Can't wait to read about other spliced guys.
But not quite like this. It's a sweet and somewhat spicy tale of Frankenscience/Area 51 experiments and highly incentivized single gals, wherein our wanna-be cupcake queen finds success and love with a 'King of the Jungle' hybrid. I confess, I'm just not a furry. This wasn't to my taste.
It was alright. More like 2.5 stars because I liked the premise.
Government program for a town of genetically modified spliced human men who desperately need to learn to socialize takes human women without telling them what the contract entails.
I just found the cliches a bit boring and I wasn't into it as much as I wanted.
