I think I'm getting addicted reading Abbi Glines's contemporaries . This is my fourth book of her and I am really loving the author more and more. Lovely characters, swoony moments, steamy scenes, heartwarming story - Because of Low has it all and just like in The Vincent Boys, I was spent the entire time giddy and swooning or drooling.
Anyway, this is a spin off of Glines's first novel Breathe and this time Marcus is the center character here. Alright, where will I start? Marcus? Yeah, Marcus. This guy is abso-freaking-lutely awesome, you know, good-looking, funny, charming, caring, sweet - alright, stop Eunice! - I mean he's really a good guy and I really adored his character. I loved how much he cared for his family and Low. He does and say the sweetestand yummiest things. I really loved that part when Low found him asleep at the couch with her little niece in his arms. I can so picture it in my head and it was just really cute! Although he did some quite stupid and irritating things still it was just so easy to forgive him. Low on the other hand is the kindest and most understanding and forgiving heroine I'd ever met. I really admired and loved her character. I admired her open mindedness and how she always tried to understand Marcus. She's sweet and caring and loved her niece so much. It was so easy to love her.
I loved how their relationship developed and how they treated each other which I say was really really sweet and swoony and hot! It hadn't been easy since they were both struggling with family problems which caused them to be not totally open with each other, especially about their family issues. There was this unexpected twist around the last part that kinda frustrated me especially how they first reacted Nonetheless, I was glad how later on they were able to handle the situation and talk things out and learned to accept things.
It was a sweet and lovely story! I loved the ending and yes, Cage too! I would love to read a story of him too! Haha! I highly recommend this. If you've enjoyed Glines previous works you'll definitely love this one too!

OK, i HAVE to write this review before i lose ALL coherent thought... First up, Marcus...can someone say hit me? Because i seriously fell for this guy from the FIRST page. No, i did NOT read Breathe, but i'm sure if i had, i would have DIED waiting for this book to come out! Marcus is cool, he's sweet, he's sexy... HOT DAMN! And Willow...what can i say, when i first met her, i didn't really like her. Why? Because of her relationship with Cage, but as i read further, i understood where she was coming from, she had been hurt and she was afraid. Now Cage...man oh man, did i hate his whoring guts from the first page, BUT amazingly, Ms. Glines redeemed him so well, so much so that i hope she writes a book about Cage; i would LOVE to see the type of girl that he falls for and that will take him on.
Now back to Marcus...did you seriously think that i would stop talking about him?! How much do i love him? [Well if you've read Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire and you were one of the million people that fell hard for Travis (unfortunately i hated his guts...thought he was a nancy-boy), the way you felt for Travis is the way i feel for Marcus.] I am seriously OBSESSING over him...
So now that you all know that Marcus is mine, i can pick myself up from the crumpled mess that i became while reading Because of Low, crawl into a hole and dream about Marcus (which would make me a cougar...ROAR!!!).
A awesome 5 star read; if i could have given it 100 stars i would have! SO, SO, SO happy that i bought this book! Congratulations, Ms. Glines, for a writing such a beautiful story AND for turning me into a HOT MESS for Marcus Hardy! LOL! :)

This cover makes me laugh. I'm not sure whether it's because the title looks like something printed out on a label maker, or because of the discount Emma Stone in the arms of a dude pouting harder than a teenager taking a MySpace pic in 2005, but it's all gold. Sadly, what lies between the covers is not, though.
Abbi Glines was pretty popular about four years ago, when new adult fiction was first making waves. A lot of my friends really did not like her work, which made me curious, because I am one of those contrary, masochistic people who feel the need to read a book and find out for myself whether it's really that bad (and sometimes it isn't - case in point: TWILIGHT). When I saw one of the author's books at the used bookstore, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to belatedly check out the hype.
Marcus lives with a playboy named Cage. One day, a girl comes to their apartment looking for Cage who isn't his normal type (which means that she doesn't have fake boobs and isn't model skinny, basically - I believe Marcus calls her "natural"). The girl - Low - is crying because her sister kicked her out of the house - again - to entertain her boyfriend and the father of her niece. Marcus decides he wants her immediately (insta-love), tears and all, and is perplexed when Cage warns him away, claiming that Low is the girl he's going to marry once he's decided he's going to stop slutting around and commit himself.
(Hmm...why does that sound familiar? *stares hard at Acehole from JOCKBLOCKED*)
***WARNING: SPOILERY SPOILERS DEAD AHEAD***
Marcus slowly insinuates himself into Low's life, while both of them deal with their issues. Marcus is upset at his father for leaving his family for a younger woman. Low is upset at her sister for cavorting around with a married man. If you think that their problems seem like they're connected in some way - guess what. You're right. I mean, obviously. As soon as the word "married man" was used, it clicked for me immediately and I was like, "Well, this is not going to be a fun little ride to Happyville."
Here's the thing, the drama in the book is so stupid. I didn't like how Marcus put Low on a pedestal, praising her for being innocent and virginal, and talking about how hot she is compared to other women because she's natural. Whatever natural means. I mean, she wears makeup, and makeup isn't natural, so where is the line? Hair-dye? Cosmetic enhancements? Preservatives? There is so much girl-shaming in this book, it isn't even funny. Marcus is angrier at his father's girlfriend than he is at his father, but shouldn't his father be held accountable? He doesn't really call his father names, but he refers to the mistress as the slut or the whore, and then there's this delightful scene:
I wanted to hurt her. Slam her against a wall and scream at her. But I couldn't. So I settled for words.
"Suck him dry while you can, because you won't be young forever. He'll leave you one day too. For someone younger. A zebra doesn't change his stripes, and I can assure you there is nothing about you that's special. You're just a young piece of ass" (208).
Then there's the way Marcus treats Cage. They're supposed to be friends. He's living in Cage's apartment. Cage tells him not to hit on the girl he likes and Marcus does it anyway. He does it because he knows that Cage won't kick him out because of the fear that Low might leave, too.
There was a possibility he'd get so angry he'd kick me out. But then I was banking on Willow threatening to leave with me, and I knew beyond a shadow of doubt Cage wouldn't let that happen. He might be upset, but he wouldn't lose her. He'd put up with whatever she forced him to put up with in order to keep her close. I didn't get their relationship at all. One minute he reminded me of a pussy-whipped guy around her, and the next he acted like her damn brother. I didn't like it. He wasn't her brother. I wanted him to back off. He didn't cherish how special she was. I did (137).
This was the moment that I really started to not like Marcus. He's one of those possessive alphaholes who stalks the heroine, turning up conveniently (read: creepily) to offer rides home that weren't asked for, or to "protect" her from confrontations that he started. When he decides he likes her, he makes Low move all her things from Cage's room to his, and does sexy things to her in the common room. He's emotionally manipulative AF, and the way he treated his alleged friend really made me sick.
What is even more annoying is how Low uses Cage. She knows how he feels about her and seems to feel no guilt at all about doing stuff with his best friend under his roof. She also still expects him to stick around and do everything that he did for her before. When Marcus upsets her, who does she run to? The selfish twit has a freak-out because she's afraid he's dumping their years of friendship just because he didn't buy her her favorite soda.
Once inside I headed over to the fridge to get a Jarritos. I was thirsty. Opening the bottom drawer, I realized there weren't any more. Only beer. Cage never ran out of my drinks. But they were gone. He was letting me go (178-179).
B*tch, you can buy your own damn soda. Or have your boyfriend buy it for you. You constantly talk about how poor you two are, and you're still making him buy you soda? What the actual flip. It made me angry that this was portrayed as a panic attack because it felt more like a plot device. I hate it when mental illness is used in stupid ways to add plot points to romance novels, especially when the hero or heroine is introduced as a curative. If you're going to give a heroine anxiety, that is perfectly cool. But using it for drama and then never bringing it up again? That's where we have a problem.
At this point, I was still considering giving this book 2 stars for sheer entertainment. But then at the end of the book it makes me angry. Marcus finds out that Low's sister is the Other Woman wrecking his family and assumes that she knew the whole time and was basically having a laugh at his expense. He says terrible things to her, and starts drinking and rage-sexing other women while moping around about how hard his life is. That was when I decided that Marcus could go firetruck himself. Lack of communication to create drama is such an annoying trope, and the fact that he was so quick to throw their relationship in the garbage really doesn't speak much of him as a person (but we knew that).
The sex/romantic scenes are kind of strange too:
All I could see was all that hair spread out on my pillows. It reminded me of flames. I'd always loved to watch fires (136).
*quietly begins playing Cascada's Pyromania*
All it took was one small caress just where I needed it, and my world fell apart. It was as if someone had lit a bottle rocket between my legs (165).
Literally all he does is touch her once and it turns into a fireworks show down there. Since when did a vaginal boop lead to the Best Sex Evar?
The writing isn't bad. Stylistically, these books reminded me of Jen Frederick's Gridiron series. I think it's possible that I could get into some of the author's other works. Sadie was very likable, and I thought Cage was interesting (even though he's the stereotypical, promiscuous alpha male, I liked him a sight better than Marcus). Pretty much all of the characters in here were interesting, except for the two leads. Low's sister, Tawny, had spice, and was complex even if she wasn't likable.
I might read more of this author's books. But I can't really recommend this one.

Sweet, sweet, love Abbi Glines has done it again.
What is not to love about Marcus and Willow? The protective, gorgeous gentleman and sweet, broken red head. This spin off, of book one Tells us the story of Marcus Hardy and if you didn't fall a little bit then, in this book you most certainly will.

Where book one bored me, this little treasure was Romance at its loveliest.

Why do I even try?
“He isn’t like us Low. You know that right.”
I knew what Cage was saying. Marcus was out of my league. He didn’t want me thinking there could ever be anything between me and his roommate. I was low class. Marcus was a rich kid.
So, we have the Cinderella complex here. Rich boy, Poor girl, they meet and puff...
Marcus is the perfect hero guy who wants to save the world. He comes from a rich family but he is really humble. He likes to earn his things and not live with his father's money. He is hot, nice, take care of others and hugs babies. The real prince charming.
And then we find out that he came home because his family is messed up. What kinda give that "not even money can make you happy" message. And as every single NA there, his father is an asshole. As he doesn't want to spend family money, he shares an apartment with a friend's friend who he never met a lot before. And then, one day this girl comes to his door.
But wait, she is different. She has this shenanigan vibe of hotness without being slutty.
Willow (Low) has a completely messed up life. Her parents are gone and she has this crazy and incompetent sister who leaves her daughter alone with anybody to hook up with a guy.
Low tries to take care of the little kid and when she does, she can sleep at home. When she doesn't... She goes to her hot guy friend's bed. But no, nothing is happening between them. He loves her more than anything but as she friendzoned him, he leaves her to hook up. Am I seen a pattern here? But he still treated her as her future wife.
“Unconditional love is hard to compete with.”
So, as time pass and we get to know how close Marcus and Low are getting close, oh wait, we don't. He thinks she is hot, she thinks he is hot, they are making out and now they are in love. So yeap, we have insta-love.
Really, if you think that you love someone who you just met THAT IS NOT LOVE! THAT IS LUST!
Maybe it was okay when I was a kid and I thought feelings were something to eat. Or in 1800s when Cinderella was first told by the Grimms and woman could take instalove to marry and go out from home. But not now. Not today. Not with me.
The characters were completely one dimensional and the double POV was horrible. It was like I was reading the same mind, with really small differences in genre. But sometimes the way they acted inside and outside their minds were like completely different people. It was really unrealistic. Not even the drama made me keep going and the tentative love triangle made me roll my eyes countless times.
All in all, I really disliked this story and sometimes I was really bored.

Wow!!!!!!! I loved Because of Low! What a great spin off to Breathe. I’m so happy that The scenes between Low and Marcus were so hot and steamy! Totally swoon worthy. I think I might have a girly crush on Abbi Glines and all of her great books. :)

3.5 stars. I'm going to call this review - REDEMPTION.
I feel like I finally got what this author was trying to write. I had a like/dislike feeling for her book Existence, and I borderline hated the first book in this series, Breathe, so I entered into my read of the second book a bit hesitantly. The only reason I even decided to pick up this book was because of my interest in Marcus, who had been a side character in the first installment and was now being pushed into the role of leading man. In all honestly, if anyone is even considering reading this series, I would say to skip book 1 altogether and go right to book 2. Other than a brief cameo from book 1's characters, there's nothing really tying these books together.
Now I must pause a second to reign in my need to fangirl over the lovely, lovely Marcus Hardy. *pause*
If you liked Marcus in book 1, I can't wait to see what you'll think of him in book 2. He was all that...yet somehow more. For a second, I thought we were in danger of losing the character to the overpowering "alpha male syndrome," but thankfully, the author stopped just short of the point where he would have been beyond redemption. Who knew that Marcus had his own inner demons to fight? Because I sure didn't while reading book 1. I fell hard for the guy who wore his heart on his sleeve. His feelings for Willow felt natural compared to how he pined over Sadie in the first book. His protectiveness fit better with this storyline, whereas it felt forced in Breathe. And hot damn if he didn't have some sexy moments. This book was steamier than the average YA (I'm guessing because the characters were college aged). I think I had a wicked grin on my face while reading about Marcus referencing orgasms.
I have to give credit to Ms. Glines for walking the drama path without straying into "crazy" territory. There are a few books I've read recently which could have used a bit of restraint when it came to how extreme the drama was going to get. This book has its fair share of misunderstandings, ridiculous moments, and stubborn decisions, but there was never a point where I had the screaming red flag of "ABORT, ABORT...YOU WENT TOO FAR!!!" flying in my face. Most of what happened wasn't that far off from the silly everyday drama that happens in most young people's relationships. I have to give a big sigh of relief that Marcus didn't turn scary or violent. He was a bit jealous, he had his overprotective moments...but it never crossed that line.
My heart reached out to all of the characters in this story. The plot twist at the end which brought unexpected people together was a nice touch. It's wonderful to see stories come full-circle. I can't wait for Cage's book now. He reminded me a little bit of Reid from Between the Lines, except not as cold and heartless to start. Cage has a big heart. You can see it in the way he cares for Willow. He just hasn't found his own girl yet to surrender to, so he blindly goes through one-night-stands with reckless abandon. Because of this, his story of falling in love will be that much more sweet to watch.
I almost opted out of mentioning any complaints because I'm quite thrilled that this book surpassed my expectations. But if I failed to mention the fact that the term "baby" was used more than once (one of my huge cringe-worthy terms), or forgot to mention that guys rarely refer to sex as "making love," then I would be untrue to what people expect from my reviews. And one spoilerish complaint Even with those moments, I was still more than pleased with Because of Low
There were actually several quote-worthy moments that made me "awwww," but this time I'm going to opt out of posting them because this review is long enough as it is.
If you don't mind a bit of drama and some intensity in a love story, this book will work fine for you. If you cringe at even a hint of extreme behavior, you might want to give this one a pass, even if the drama was no where near as high as many other popular books I've read.

And hot damn if he didn't have some sexy moments. This book was steamier than the average YA (I'm guessing because the characters were college aged). I think I had a wicked grin on my face while reading about Marcus referencing orgasms.
I have to give credit to Ms. Glines for walking the drama path without straying into "crazy" territory. There are a few books I've read recently which could have used a bit of restraint when it came to how extreme the drama was going to get. This book has its fair share of misunderstandings, ridiculous moments, and stubborn decisions, but there was never a point where I had the screaming red flag of "ABORT, ABORT...YOU WENT TOO FAR!!!" flying in my face. Most of what happened wasn't that far off from the silly everyday drama that happens in most young people's relationships. I have to give a big sigh of relief that Marcus didn't turn scary or violent. He was a bit jealous, he had his overprotective moments...but it never crossed that line.
My heart reached out to all of the characters in this story. The plot twist at the end which brought unexpected people together was a nice touch. It's wonderful to see stories come full-circle. I can't wait for Cage's book now. He reminded me a little bit of Reid from Between the Lines, except not as cold and heartless to start. Cage has a big heart. You can see it in the way he cares for Willow. He just hasn't found his own girl yet to surrender to, so he blindly goes through one-night-stands with reckless abandon. Because of this, his story of falling in love will be that much more sweet to watch.
I almost opted out of mentioning any complaints because I'm quite thrilled that this book surpassed my expectations. But if I failed to mention the fact that the term "baby" was used more than once (one of my huge cringe-worthy terms), or forgot to mention that guys rarely refer to sex as "making love," then I would be untrue to what people expect from my reviews. And one spoilerish complaint Even with those moments, I was still more than pleased with Because of Low
There were actually several quote-worthy moments that made me "awwww," but this time I'm going to opt out of posting them because this review is long enough as it is.
If you don't mind a bit of drama and some intensity in a love story, this book will work fine for you. If you cringe at even a hint of extreme behavior, you might want to give this one a pass, even if the drama was no where near as high as many other popular books I've read.

I just know that I see promise in this author and keep hoping to see the potential come to fruition. It's as if I'm standing on the outside of a very cool house and I'm fumbling with a huge ring of keys, hoping to find the right one to fit the door's lock.

Because of Low was hot, steamy, and all kinds of fun! Abbi Glines delivers! This is a spin-off story to Breathe that centers around Marcus this time. In the previous story, Marcus didn't get the girl (Sadie) so I was glad he got his own story.
Marcus has had to move back to Sea Breeze, Alabama, because of family problems, and attend college closer to home. He moves in with a friend of a friend, Cage, who is the perfect definition of a male-whore. Cage is out with a different girl every week, heck, sometimes everyday! While Cage is out on one of his "dates" a girl shows up, crying, with a suitcase in tow. This girl is not the usual type Cage goes for. She's natural looking, with no obvious "enhancements" and a red-head. Marcus is afraid this is one of Cage's many conquests that he's moved on from, that's about to be disappointed. So he's surprised when Cage finds out Low's at the apartment, he drops everything to come running to her aid. Cage tells Marcus "DON'T touch her… Low's the girl I'm going to marry." Marcus is immediately intrigued. Who is this girl that gets Cage to drop everything (a threesome, btw, gross!) and come running? More importantly, why would Low put up with such behavior? It turns out Low has no intentions of marrying Cage, but he's always there for her when she needs him. Due to family drama, Low spends half her nights, in Cage's bed, and the other half at her sister's house. Marcus is around with Low more than Cage, and they end up getting close. Both are drawn to each other, but Marcus wants Low to start trusting and relying on him instead of Cage.

And he's so cute with Low's little nice, Larissa. I just love how he got Larissa to stop saying a bad word. I really liked Low too. She had a big heart, and was forgiving, but wasn't afraid to stand up for what was right. My favorite part of this book was these two together. This book was HOT! Because of Low wrapped up my 2-day all-Abbi Glines reading marathon, and it was a great way to end one fun ride! I started with Breathe, then Vincent Brothers, and Low was my final stop (I'd read Existence awhile back already). With each new book, I found myself sucked right into the story and it was difficult to break myself away. Abbi has this uncanny knack for creating the absolutely perfect fantasy bad-boy in each of her stories (well, Jax isn't really bad in Breathe, but he's a rocker, so...), and the stories she develops around them are quite simply addicting. I'll probably be going through withdrawal now, so hurry up and get Predestined and Vincent Brothers out for us, Abbi!!! =)
Low is a spin-off from Breathe, with the heartbroken Marcus taking center stage in his own love story (for the record, this book is for the mature YA, not appropriate for younger teens). I was actually really surprised by this book, because where Marcus came across as sweet and tender in Breathe, he was bold and sexy in Low. That's not to say he isn't still sweet, but I was totally not expecting his sex appeal quotient to go up quite so much! I suppose because he had to be less appealing in Breathe for the sake of Jax and Sadie's relationship, we missed a whole other side of him that we get to see in living color here! Quick character run-down: he pays his own way in life despite his father's money, he takes care of his family when they are in crisis, he doesn't deal with his own emotions well, and he has a sinfully dirty mind that keeps you eating up every line that's from his POV (THANK you, Abbi!)! Who knew?!
The book starts out with Marcus returning home from college due to some family drama...aka, dad's cheating on mom and the family is falling apart, so Marcus is trying to keep his mom and sister in one piece. Living in an apartment with Cage, sexaholic friend of Preston's (from Breathe), Marcus is pretty well over Sadie and just looking to deal with school and handle family issues.
Enter Willow, the adorable, sweet, from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks beauty that is heartbroken over her bi*&^ of a sister treating her like crap. She shows up at the apartment upset and looking for Cage, but Marcus is intrigued by her. Even after he finds out that Low and Cage have been friends since childhood and Cage sees her as 'his girl', he is undeterred and drawn to her. I'm not usually a fan of the insta-love, but I think it works here. Marcus is strong and sexy, and he really takes the reins when it comes to putting himself out there for her despite his recent heartbreak.
Marcus and Low are faced with a lot of family drama, between Low's self-absorbed absentee-mom of a sister to Marcus' issues with hatred over what his dad has done. This, coupled with the fact that Low has trust and self-worth issues and Marcus doesn't understand Cage's relationship with her, it's a recipe for torment. Marcus makes some dumb decisions in reaction to his dad's behavior, one of which made me want to strangle him, but it gives his character more dimension. He's not a cookie-cutter, predictable guy. Through it all, I really loved getting to know the characters better, and Glines keeps the story interesting with the near-constant shifts. I never grew bored or had to skim through because there was so much going on to keep me involved.
As for the mature rating, Glines steams things up with Marcus and Low pretty quickly. The scene in Marcus' room....dang!! You will be needing to calm your racing heart a few times for this one!
I must admit, I felt like a total twit when I finally clued into the major twist at the end. I know every other person that read this book probably had it figured out from the get-go, but it surprised me and I was floored! Talk about a game-changer, and the huge fault line that it opened up for all of the characters just ripped my heart out. I was so scared Glines was going to leave me hanging at the end, but I know now I never should have doubted her. I know better, Glines never fails to give her readers exactly what they want. Awesome book, amazing author, definitely a must-read!!

Let me introduce you to my Low... (I know, she doesn't have green eyes but she is my Low)
This is the story about Low and Marcus. OMG Marcus!!! I loved him all the time... I was not in the mood for reading anything yesterday and I knew Abbi could get me in the mood again so I thought about reading this book that has been in my kindle forever.
There wasn't too much drama, it was funny at times, I got to know a few hot guys (I am going to read about your stories later) and their romance story was also nice :)

Because of Low is the third book by Abbi Glines that I have read. I have to say, she does seem to really have a theme going through all of her books with that whole insta-love, can't live with out you, might die if you leave me thing they all seem to have. Before I can really review Low, I have to go back to the first book in the story, Breathe. Breathe is one of those candy sweet romances, with a wholesome main character named Sadie, who just can't get out of the pile of crap life keeps throwing her way... That is until the gorgeous superstar Jax Stone takes an interest in her. It's a sweet story, and you do genuinely feel bad for the girl, because she is dealt a tough life. The main characters are likable enough, and the rest of the story is peppered with strong supporting characters. Marcus who makes his first appearance in Breathe, is now one of the main characters in Low. I actually liked him in Breathe, you could understand why he really seemed to be infatuated with Sadie. He was kind, and helpful when she really need a friend. He cared about her wellbeing, even enough to put his feelings aside and just be her friend. He spend time with Sadie, got to know her, before falling in love with her. In Low, we see a much different side of Marcus... a side that is not nearly as likable as he was in Breathe.
To be blunt, I really found Because of Low to be one the most irritating and immature books I've read in a while. There really wasn't anyone in this book that was an enjoyable enough character to make the book worth while. Marcus is whiney and mostly annoying. However, compared to Willow he seemed dreamy. I really could not stand Willow. She was needy, far to dependent on others, and did nothing except wallow in how sad and difficult her life was. I know I was supposed to feel sorry for Low, and the things she was going through... but I just couldn't sympathize with her. She basically uses Cage, and always relies on him to fix her problems. I mean come on... you are a grown woman now.... grow up, and stop leaning on everyone. Yes she has an awful sister, but again... she doesn't have to rely on her... yet she chooses to do nothing about the situation, and stays with her when she can, and runs to Cage when she can't. Minor problem with Marcus? Oh Cage, please save me! It was ridiculous, and honestly insulting to girls who really do have difficult issues to deal with. I wanted to like her... really I did, but I just couldn't. The other thing that bothered me about Low... and I know this is completely trivial; is the way she seemed to dress and present herself. Now, I really don't have a problem with women dressing skimpy... I think whatever makes you feel empowered, go for it. The issue I had is that she dresses in barely there clothing fairly often... but is just oh so confused when guys seem to look at her. She just can't understand why Cage continues to talk sexy to her, or why other guys seem to be ogling her. I mean the only reason I could really see Marcus being into her, is because of how sexy she seemed to constantly be presenting herself as.
Low's relationship with Cage was so unhealthy and creepy I'm not even sure where to begin... lets try, how she constantly calls him a silly boy, whom she feels is like her brother. Ummm.... how many of you discuss what you fantasize about while masturbating with your brother? Or let him suck on your pinky... or let him crawl into bed with you, get hard, and try to feel you up. Ewwwww! It wouldn't have bugged me, if she didn't continue to say how much of a "brother" he was to her. I mean, come on!
I'm really confused as to why either of them seemed to "fall in love" with each other. There's really no relationship... it's insta-attraction, then they have breakfast... and then all of the sudden they're basically having sex on the dance floor, and trying to scare off anyone that might be competition. Then... they seem to sort of figure out their issues, but of course not really talking about anything at all, but you know having sex with each other, and poof.... everything is okay! Plus, Low never actually learns to be self-reliant at all. She simply moves from relying on Cage, to just moving in with Marcus. All she's doing in trading one unhealthy and co-dependent relationship for the next.
I know a lot of people really enjoyed this book, and of course to each their own... but I found way more negatives to this book then there were positives. I know this isn't one of my most articulate reviews... but this book bugged me so much, it was difficult to get all coherent opinions down.

I ADORED this book to pieces! Marcus and Low's story has officially become a favorite of mine (and memorable one) for the series. I actually can't believe I have waited so long to read it because it has been sitting on my bookshelf forever! Sigh... Now I remember why I love Abbi's writing though...
For those who are unfamiliar with the series this is is the second book. The hero of the story is Marcus (a fan favorite as it appears) who readers met in the first book Breathe. Now, even though all of this is true, this book can technically standalone as it features a seperate love story. I would however recommend reading them in the series order though as you won't miss out on the characters backstory.
With that being said, this is a GREAT book. I was surprised at how emotional it was considering it's a pretty light read (and frankly I wasn't expecting it), but this aspect really draws readers into the story and allows them to connect with the characters in a strong way.
Would I recommend this book? Absolutely! It has definitely become a favorite book by the author for me and I think many readers who haven't met these characters yet will agree with me.

How refreshing to have characters actually speak to one another and communicate. Yes, I mean you Marcus! I loved Marcus - totally sigh worthy and a guy that wears his heart on his sleeve. I just adored him.
I could not put this wonderful book down. I read it in a day because I had to finish it before returning to work so I could sit in quiet and absorb every word of this story.

Marcus was a great character in book one, and he was even better in his own story. He's uncommonly intuitive when it comes to women, and a growly, possessive guy when it counts. Low was, of course, virginally naive and a little overly dramatic but I've come to expect that from Glines. They worked perfectly together. I'm super curious to read Cage's book.

BECAUSE OF LOW
is a very short yet incredibly sweet ya chic-lite. that starts with willow and ends ends with her.
this being my first abbi glines book , i found her writing style to be simple and plot predictable.
the story basically revolves around Marcus and willow (or more commonly known as low), two people who fall in love from the opposite sides of the track.
Marcus's family is falling apart and when he falls in love with willow,she helps him stay strong and becomes his rock.but after a point when truths get reveled and life gets difficult. it all comes down to two choices,and Marcus can only pick one.

Marcus and willow have a very cliche easy relationship and the story line almost remained constant until the very end, which too remained to be predictable.
this book was a definite light read,with a rather short predictable story line and sound characters. there is really anything worth mentioning as such,but this book defiantly had the sweetness as a main element that set it apart other than the cover of course ;) (call me crazy, but for some reason i find this cover supper adorable and bold,LOL i think my fav. color just turned red.)
recommended to : anybody wanting a light after-noon read with no complications or emotional attachments what-so-ever.

this being my first abbi glines book , i found her writing style to be simple and plot predictable.
the story basically revolves around Marcus and willow (or more commonly known as low), two people who fall in love from the opposite sides of the track.
Marcus's family is falling apart and when he falls in love with willow,she helps him stay strong and becomes his rock.but after a point when truths get reveled and life gets difficult. it all comes down to two choices,and Marcus can only pick one.

Ok I LOVED "Because of Low" I preferred it to Breathe. It was more of an everyday story, it had everyday dialogue, it was funny and *sigh* it was ALL about Marcus YUM!!!! I lost my heart to Marcus in Breathe, he was gentle, loving and super protective but he just grabbed it tighter in this one, he got all alpha and HOT..what a scrumptious bloke!!!

My heart melted over Cage's and Low's friendship!!! But got to say Marcus not only melted my heart, he left it in a puddle on the floor!! I felt such an emotional attachment to the characters, they were very REAL to me cause of the excellent writing of A. Glines!!

I <3 Abbi Glines.
She seriously has major skills when it comes to writing attraction. Her words make my palms sweat, my heart race and my knees shake. She has a way with time-warping me back to the dating days with the hubbs. I feel like I am re-living those amazingly sweet, enticingly scrumptious and extremely nerve-racking first kisses and hours-long* make-out sessions.
I always love it when a writer makes you fight for the characters in a book and when they drop bombs on you. Abbi did both in Because of Low. With all the fighting and dropping of bombs you would think it was a war book and not a YA romance.
Seriously though, great book.
*And no the "hours-long" was not suppose to say "hour". I miss being 18 and having nothing else better to do then make-out. *sigh*

In Breathe book one in the Sea Breeze series readers get introduced to Marcus Hardy. A rich kid working his summer job at the house of teenage rockstar Jax Stone. Things get complicated when Marcus and Jax fall for the same girl only for Marcus to loose out to Jax. Now in book two Marcus finds the girl who captures his heart. And will once again face a new rival. His new roomate Cage York.
Marcus Hardy finds is home bound and ready to face the family drama after his father has an affair. He is very much aware of the fact that his little sister Amands needs help since their mother is falling to peices all around her. But helping his mom and sister pull it together is the least of his worries because the love bug has bit him hard. When Marcus comes face to face with Willow a curvy sexy redhead.
Willow has been put out again by her no good sister Tawney. Who by the way only allows Willow a place to lay her head when she babysits for her. Talk about a BIT#H! Willow then makes a bee line to Cage her safe haven but he is not home. And that is when she meets him. Marcus Hardy Cage's new roomate.
When Marcus gets the call to let Willlow in but to not touch her he is more than intrigued. He is fascinated that this one girl has the power to make Cage York "the man whore" stop in the middle of having sex with not one but two chicks. While still on the phone with Cage Marcus is shocked when Cage announces that Willow is the girl he will marry. Too bad Marcus wants her all to himself and he intends to have her.
Thoughts
The only flaw I had with this book is the fact that I figured out the twist in the first ten pages. With that said i still enjoyed reading about Marcus and Low and i plan to continue with the series. In this book Sadie and Jax make appearances and we get better glimpses of Marcus's friends which was fun.

Sí, es en serio, el libro me ha durado apenas dos horas y media.
No sé qué tiene esta autora que hace que sus libros me enganchen y no pueda parar de leer incluso aunque quiera. Ahora mismo tengo los ojos despidiendo chiribitas y no sé si quiera qué estoy diciendo, pero si algo tengo claro es que este libro provoca muchas emociones.
Tanto Marcus como Low son dos personajes con un bagaje familiar importante y a lo largo de la novela se puede ver cómo eso les ha afectado mucho a la hora de relacionarse y confíar, sobre todo Low, cuyo único apoyo es Cage, su mejor amigo.
La trama es muy simple y a medida que avanza es cada vez más obvia,Marcus es un personaje que me ha gustado a pesar de algunos ataques cavernícolas que no me han gustado tanto y los secundarios han tenido su peso en la historia.
No es el mejo libro del mundo, pero definitivamente esta serie tiene algo que engancha y que hace que quieras seguir leyendo para ver qué nueva historia va a ocurrir.

Upon starting this book I made the observation that it was definitely a step up from Breathe. But then I met the crossroads I never seem to avoid when I read Abbi Glines' books. I've come to create a list of upsets that I've noticed never fail make an appearance.
The characters are hardly ever realistic or in any way rational. An example of this is our female lead, Willow, inadvertently ruining friendships all in her quest for love. We all know from the beginning that Cage and Marcus are friends. They live together. She oddly expects Cage to be there for her no matter how much she walks all over him. And I have to call the author's bluff in trying to have us readers believe that Willow has never been to Cage's apartment before that fateful day Marcus laid eyes on her and fell in love.
So, I guess my question regarding that is...why now? Granted, there can be other circumstances that could have caused Marcus and Willow to cross paths. But if we're being honest, that is extremely unlikely given the fact that there is no chemistry between either of them whatsoever.
Someone always tries to have their cake and eat it too. This is very typical Abbi Glines. Whether it be a creepily overprotective and possessive guy that is like a "brother" or even the overzealous friends of said person, this never fails to rear its ugly head. However, these people always help move the book along because they always see what the MCs never see. Problems within the MC him/herself, or issues with their odd decisions that never fail to create conflict, these secondary characters are lifesavers. Without these sudden epiphanies brought on by nosey friends, there would be no progress.
There's usually an unnecessarily complicated relationship with someone the MC doesn't see as a romantic interest. Willow and Cage's relationship would strike me as weird every time they would let something transpire that would make one think that they could possibly function as something more than close friends. For example, Marcus came home just in time to see Willow walking out of Cage's room. (This was an ongoing childish turf-war between these two).
But...why not take the time to explain things? Why jump to conclusions at every turn? If you love someone, shouldn't you know and trust them well enough to just say, "Oh, I know you would never do this! Don't worry, I will not hop on this trampoline and jump to these conclusions."
This would be too much to expect, apparently.
Slut-shaming.
This is a very ugly thing that I always notice, but I think we like to sort of sweep it under the rug that is the MCs usually temperament. Calling others out of their name should be warranted--I mean, they are going through issues, right?
Every book has the same blueprint, just different characters in a slightly tweaked setting. If you pay close attention, you will notice that the author's ideas are hardly original. The stories are addictive, though, that's for sure. But it's a little irritating reading a book and basically figuring out who and what the next book is about. It almost makes me want to scream.
Apparently insta-love + annoying "alpha-males" + a very weird "twist" = An NYT bestseller.
I do need to talk about that "twist", though...

5 Because of Low Stars

Ahhh Willow this girl has been through enough, and what I loved most about this book was her relationship with Cage.
Now I know that wasn’t the main love interest but for Willow she knew she could always count on Cage.
Marcus was someone I loved from the first book in this series; I loved how he is with his family. How he wants to make it all better and he can’t because well his dad is just a giant arse.
And even though I admired Cage’s relationship with Low.. I loved how Marcus loves Low. Its all-consuming and sweet it really is a great love story of love and trust.
And the narration hella awesome! :)

This is probably the 7th NA audio I listen to. I swear it's always the same. Boy meets girl, they fall in love, argue and break up, then get back together. The only problem is that in here, the argument was complete nonsense. It would've been solved just by talking since Marcus misunderstood something. It's not like I hate this book, I felt indifferent. I used to only give the books I hated 1 star but I'm starting to change my mind.
Because of Low was a typical boring NA novel, offering nothing new. It wasn't original just boring.

IT'S OFFICIAL i'm in love with Abbi Glines . i LOVE reading her books and OH LALA she's getting little bolder huh?!!! ;P
i had this book on my shelve since FOREVER but i was like meeh i don't wanna read it.. last night i said what the hell and i grabbed it, and seriously WHAT THE HELL , that was awesome i always loved Marcus and low is such a sweet character. and now i really can not wait to read While It Lasts witch is Cage 's story , it is gonna be epic i just know :)
