“Are you Mr. Archer?”
“No. But trust me when I tell you that he won’t mind me signing for his papers.”
“It requires Mr. Archer’s signature,” I reply, my voice surprisingly calm and steady despite my trembling knees.
“This club is bursting with hot women. You could take any of these girls home right now,” she says, her voice husky.
“But we’re talking about dinner, and we only want that with you.”
Zeke looks between Xander and me. “So what? We just tell her we want a relationship with her? All three of us? No contract, no boundaries?”
Xander throws his hands in the air. “There’s boundaries in every relationship, Z. Most people don’t feel the need to write them into a fucking twenty-page contract.”
“So we just invite her to dinner tonight and tell her we all want to …”
“I bet the reality of dating you three means constant blowjobs with minimal return.”
“Actually, Xander and West give incredible blow jobs, so that wouldn’t fall entirely on you,” Zeke replies coolly, and I realize I said that last part out loud.
“We fucking cut her loose. We let her go and we discredit her. We make sure that nobody believes a single goddamn word that comes out of her mouth ever again.”
“The launch party tomorrow night. How about we show Lily exactly who she’s fucking with?”
“Come home, buttercup,” he pleads, yanking my hand closer until the tip of the blade pierces his skin. A drop of deep crimson blood trickles over his pectoral muscle. “Come home or stick this fucking knife in my chest so that I can remember what it feels like to be alive.”
“Are you back, Lily? For good?” Leave it to Xander to ask the question I know we’re all waiting to have answered.
“He was my father, West. You wouldn’t have made it two steps with me. If you hadn’t run when you did, he would have killed you. I can promise you that.”
“I never knew what happened though. Why my father almost killed you that day.”
