Thanks to BookSprout for an ARC copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.

This is a cute steamy short story about a young woman who is poor and orphaned and being contracted into an unwanted marriage by her guardians. Miss Kitty Constable comes up with the plan to ruin her reputation to her ineligible and unwanted by her would-be fiance. She engages Andrew, the Earl of Stansfield, and a well-known member of the Rake's Club to publicly ruin her. But Kitty finds being ruined seems to be harder than expected and neither thought to find themselves so intrigued by each other.

This is a short and relatively straight forward romance with a bit of steam. It is a cute, likeable, and easy short read, but don't expect a lot of depth, character development, or intrigue.

I genuinely enjoyed this story, even though I do not often read regency romances. The premise was unique. Usually in these books, women are trying to avoid having their reputations ruined and are more discreet about their affairs so it was amusing to see a woman taking control of her future and using societal restrictions to her advantage to avoid an unwanted marriage. Instead of starting the affair to sate her sexual curiosity before a life of spinsterhood, Kitty’s main goal was to ruin her reputation.

It is a bit confusing that Kitty is beautiful but does not receive any male interest, but it might just be my modern perspective inhibiting my ability to understand why men would need to be bribed into marrying a beautiful woman with a great personality. Though it’s historically accurate, I’ve never understood dowries.

I will probably read more from this author in the future. This is the first book I have read from Destiny Davin. I am always excited to find new authors, especially of romance novellas because it is difficult to find romance novellas that are well-written.

The story was well-written, but there were a few small typos and instances of missed words, but hopefully these will be edited before the book’s release.

Plotting With the Rake . . .

Kitty Constable has been presented for marriage and is being allowed to choose her husband. Since she didn’t find anyone to her liking, the impatient guardians have chosen for her. She is to be wed to an older unattractive man who has wealth. But this is an obnoxious choice for Kitty. So she takes matters into her own hands and looks for a way to cause a scandal to ruin her reputation so she will no longer be an acceptable choice as a wife.

Kitty contacts Andrew, the Earl of Stanfield, a rake well known for his trysts with married women. Apparently it is not as easy as it sounds to arrange to be caught. But he did promise her a scandal. Is it too late to make that happen? Will they decide to marry each other instead? Or will both walk away from the situation in defeat?

Scandalous Love Story

To Ruin a Reputation is the fantastic steamy romance set in the Regency Era. Written by Destiny Davin, this book is the well-crafted love story between Lady Kitty Constable and Andrew, the Earl of Stanfield. Andrew is a notorious rake, while Kitty only has one season under her belt, but still wants nothing to do with being a bride! However, her parents force her hand and say she must choose a husband or they will choose one for her.

She makes it her ultimate goal to ruin herself so that she doesn't have to marry, and The Earl fo Stanfield is listed to help with just such a task. However, it proves to be far harder than either of them thought possible, and they fall for one another in the process.

If you enjoy short, fun regency romances then this is the book for you! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a lovely story involving an unwanted arranged marriage, a ward, a rake and scandal. Kitty decided that she’d prefer to be a ruined spinster than marry Lord Charlesworth. All she needed was to be caught in a compromising position which would make her unmarriagable in his eyes. She enlisted the notorious rake, Andrew Barrington, the Earl of Stanfield, to assist her. After multiple failed attempts, a betrothal was finally announced. This is a short story that sizzles and entertains. There is just something delicious about Andrew, and it pairs well with Kitty’s fierce determination and passion. Loved it!.

A sweet story of innocence claimed and love found, of reputations sullied and respectability gained, of rags to riches, of romance and lust.
A perfect afternoon of romantic regency reminiscing.

Probably a trope you have read many times before, but this one, though short, is engaging. The length of the story dictates the speed of the relationships so don't expect any in depth, angsty exchanges, or heavy sexual encounters. This is to the point and though claims to be steamy it lacks any real sexual tension.

In short if you like the regency vibe, delightful characters and a pinch of spice, then this is for you.

Kitty does not want to wed a Lord that has been chosen for her. In order to make herself unmarriagable, she decides the best course of action is to have relations in order to "ruin her reputation ".
Even though the plot is a cliche, it's a cliche that I happen to like. The story moved quickly, but I felt there was a lack of character development.
I also felt the plot wasn't developed strongly.
Though advertised as steamy, this in no way could be considered erotica. So for those who like less steam, you should find the book to your taste.
I think that the shortness of the story actually hurt it. If the author had more pages, the characters and plot would have been more developed.
Though this isn't a "reread" for me. It was a short story that passed some time.

To Ruin a Lady

First time reading Ms Davin. I enjoyed the prequel enough to order this first book. I like the idea of the Rakes club, which is just a Male brothel and seems only fair. I appreciate the story line about Kitty taking her future in her own hands … the days where females were just a commodity for a good deal, Kitty taking the steps to ensure that wasn’t her path was brave and bold. Loved both the main characters and the sub players. Tho the book was short, the plot line was flushed out and I didn’t feel cheated…but it could have easily been longer.

Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Romantic Regency Romance

Kitty didn’t want to marry for anything less than love! Being told a marriage had been arranged, she decided to take matters into her own hands to cause a scandal and stop the engagement before it started and the Rake’s Club would be the perfect place to start.

Andrew, the Earl of Stanfield was part of this club and once approached by Kitty decided to help her to ruin herself and if along the way she let him bed her, all the better for him.

Enjoy this fast fun regency romp with a HEA.

Very short story and typical cliché. The girl wants to escape an arranged marriage to a horrible man and the only way left is to ruin herself. The mmc is a libertine lord along with 2 other friends who have a kind of "club". He sees her, they talk, he volunteers for the "job", there are a few failed attempts and finally they tango horizontally and that's it. The horrible fiance sees her leaving the house that the whole society knows what goes on inside. MMC falls in love, marries the girl and you have your hea!.

Even for a short story it could have had more development

Fast paced, fast reading book. Full of steam, romance, intrigue, twists and turns. Well written story of Drew and Kitty. Kitty is to married off to someone who turns her stomach, while Drew is use to married women showing up at the Rake's club to have what their husbands can't give them. Together they make a plan that will get her out of this engagement that she doesn't want , but then they fall for each other. Both get their happily ever after and more. Really great reading book. Can't wait for the next one by this extremely gifted writer.

If I'm ruined

Kitty is a poor young woman reared by guardians. Now she is of age to benefit them. I do not see them as a true loving couple because people in love want others to experience the same! This was not their wish at all! Kitty arrives at the Rake' s club ready to ruin her reputation! Drew is leaving and literally run into each other! This is a novella so fast paced! I love they focus on the characters and not Drew's aka Andrew's title! It is not revealed until the end!
Kitty is fire and innocence and these two make a delicious pair!

Kitty has had her season in London with no luck finding a husband now her guardians have chosen one for her who is old enough to be her father. Kitty decides to take the matter into her own hands and find a way to ruin her reputation if she can find someone to help her. Andrew is a well known rake so she sets her sight on him and he is happy to help but the more time he spends with her the more he wants to be with her. Has Andrew finally found the woman that will keep him in her bed?.

Kitty Constable is in her 3rd season and has yet to find a marriage prospect. Lord Andrew Barrington is a known rake. When Kitty realizes that she is going to be engaged to a man she doesn’t love and who grosses her out, she devises a plan to become “unwedable”. Will her plan work?

I enjoyed Kitty’s character. I always enjoy a strong woman, who knows what she wants. While reading the book, I am not sure the MMC is as believable, especially in the last few chapters.

This is a well written book with strong characters in Kitty and Drew. The author does a great job bringing an entertaining short story with an interesting storyline. Kitty wants no part of marriage and will do whatever it takes to stop it. Drew is no angel and is happily surrounded by women with no marriage concerns. I enjoyed reading their story.

Unexpected results

An entertaining story with dowerless Kitty needing a plan after her guardians arrange an unwanted marriage. Her plan...go to the Rakes Club and arrange a scandal. Bored Drew is leaving as she arrives and he is intrigued when she marches up to the front door. Learning her request he agrees. Each attempt gets thwarted so the unplanned happens. To my utter surprise she somehow becomes a Duchess in the Epilogue! However I recommend this short story.

Good quick read

I enjoyed the relationship between the two main characters. The story flows rapidly. It’s a steamy read. The end seemed a bit rushed to me, but the author gives an epilogue that wraps up the HEA and saves this ending. I recommend this book as a quick, spicy read.

First time reading this author and I think this is her first historical. A very cute story and I really loved the premise. Kitty and Drew were just adorable and even though their story took place lickety-split, it was an enjoyable read. I know it is a novella but wished we got more of them.

I would have liked it until I realized the author did not know the title of an Earl’s wife. A Duchess is married to a Duke not an Earl.
