Ty Yorrick is an interesting character, but her adventures here are fairly paint-by-numbers and unless my instincts very much deceive me I can't help but suspect that the "Yarrow" temple full of dark side artifacts so central to her formative trauma was "Sith" in initial drafts but editorial came down hard on the term as off-limits for the High Republic era.

Still, it was pretty good comics Star Wars and I enjoyed the character design and the art. Good for passing an hour on a winter afternoon.

This graphic novel collects the four issues of "The Monster of Temple Peak" arc, as well as "Set for Life," "No Stone Unturned," "First Mission," "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do," "The Haul," and "A Very Nihil Interlude." The main arc, "The Monster of Temple Peak," follows former Jedi Ty Yorrik in one of her escapades as a monster hunter for hire. This story explores some of her past as a Jedi and reasons for leaving the order. While she still used the Force and a lightsaber, her beliefs are no longer with that of the Order. As a monster hunter, she certainly has seen a lot of scenarios, but this particular ask will shed light on a truly and unexpectedly nasty monster.

The other issues are all super short shorts, less then your average single-comic length, as most are specials or one-offs. "Set for Life" takes place during Light of the Jedi on the Elphorna outpost, where some fan-favorites are enjoying a wholesome meal when they get a call to help someone in a mining accident. "No Stone Unturned" follows pilots Leox and Affie, along with their crewmate, Geode, in a run to replace a sacred stone for a ritual. "First Mission" explores Vernestra Rwoh on her first task with her new master, Stellan Gios. "Crash and the Crew Do What They Do" follows a Corellian girl, Crash, and her crew designated to keep Senator Lina Soh safe during a special event. "The Haul" shows the devious side of Lorna Dee as she screws over her own storm to get something great. "A Very Nihil Interlude" follows a little girl who gets bullied by some of the other kids as she aims to get a fruit from the forest. She encounters an older Nihil woman who teaches the girl some tricks and might even gain a new recruit.

The art styles vary across the issues. The main arc with Ty Yorrick is a fun way to either be introduced to her or get to know her a little bit better if you were first introduced to her in The Rising Storm. It is a nice visual and a fun way to get to know who she is as a character. The single-issues were kind of hit-or-miss, but mostly decent and added a bit to the characters and the world of the larger works for The High Republic. I enjoyed the Lorna Dee one the most of the minis because she is my current favorite High Republic character and it just adds a little nasty to who we already know she is. Overall an enjoyable read that adds to one's enjoyment of Star Wars: The High Republic era.

This comic book collection combines the four issues of "Monster of Temple Peak" series, and a bunch of short one-offs as a bonus. All are set in the High Republic era, but no real knowledge of the era is needed and anyone familiar with Star Wars can enjoy this book.

The top billed story, "Monster of Temple Peak" is also the strongest. We are introduced to a new ex-Jedi character, Tylera (or Ty), who is a "bounty hunter for monsters", completed by a rough mercenary with a heart of gold personality. While this is not a new concept (or really, an extremely over-familiar one), I found the story and characters very enjoyable. Interestingly, the story and setting feel more like an issue of the Witcher but work well enough in Star Wars. Art is good if not amazing - I love a more clean look in comics.

From the short stories, the best is "A Very Nihil Interlude," with awesome art and a very funny story. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I've read quite a bit of Star Wars comics of late, and this collection is above the rest. There's nothing here to drive the overall narrative of High Republic forward, which I actually find a good thing - it allows the stories to exist on their own.

Not terrible, but obviously aimed at a younger audience. The main story here, about a former Jedi turned monster hunter who discovers who the "real" monsters are, is pretty good. Ty Yorrick is a promising character and we see just enough of her past in flashbacks to get an idea of why she's a "former" Jedi. I wouldn't mind reading another story with her as the focus. The other shorts are all pretty short and don't really have the room to develop much of a story, though they aren't terrible, either. Some of the artwork is really strong and some is a bit of a mess. The main story artwork by Rachel Stott is the best.

This is a decent collection of stories, with the main adventure by far the strongest piece. Seeing Ty putting her skills to use in a way that is at least somewhat divorced from the Jedi is nice, and she has some good interactions, even if the resolution of the story felt a little obvious. Less strong are the shorts in the collection; while it's nice to see various Jedi from Phase I in additional stories, they go from utterly unnecessary (No Stone Unturned,) to ugly if fun (Crash and the Crew), to intentionally unpleasant (A Nihil Interlude). It's food for completionists, I guess, but not something I would consider required reading for Phase I of the High Republic.

This comic offers some useful insight into Ty Yorrick's story, and particularly shows the events that led to her parting ways with the Jedi Order. The backstory was woven well into the present narrative, and presents Th as much more than a mere lightsaber for hire. This is a character that I would hope to encounter in subsequent High Republic installments.
The bonus stories were a good touch, too, each giving a glimpse of characters we've met across the phase 1 novels, while telling fun, easy to follow stories.

This collection of comics was such a fun read!

The Monster of Temple Peak provided a nice story about a former Jedi while the collection of shorter comics told an array of stories.

It was great to see various characters from the High Republic, specifically the Light of the Jedi and the Blade. As someone who really enjoyed the Blade, its always a pleasure to see Porter Engle appear. It was nice to put a face to the names for some of the characters from Light of the Jedi who I had not seen before.

This collection is a fun read for any Star Wars fan!

Let's catalog the offensive of our yet again ethnic female lead, any of which would cause a man to be burned at the stake:

Patronizing correction: new character says 'nice sword'. Asshat Jedi replies "IT'S A SABER"

complete disrespect: character says 'Please call me XYZ(paraphrasing all quotes since I don't get paid to research this shit)'. Asshat Jedi "I TOLD YOU I DON'T SO NICKNAMES"

Slide in a bit of politics with "I CAN'T BREATHE", because Alien Lives Matter.

After that, add in the obligatory, unnecessary, and inappropriate homosexuality and you have a Bad Read.

Looking forward to continued development of characters in the next book because this series clearly ended with more in mind. A good self contained story but with so much half back story included that you wanted more to pay everything off.

This was a nice collection of stories featuring characters from phase one of the High Republic series. The stories were all set before the disaster and just add more layers to the characters, especially Ty. As far as I can remember this is the only mention of the events that I believe led her to abandon the Jedi order.

Outta nowhere banger. Love the weird aliens and campy backstory, always a sucker for a fallen Jedi.

Fun, quick read. It's not essential to the rest of the High Republic, but I still enjoyed getting some backstory for Ty Yorrick. The collected short stories at the end don't add much, though I enjoyed the one with Bell & Loden.
