The Swordfish was a carrier borne torpedo-spotter-reconnaissance, anti-submarine aircraft. Over 2,300 were built and were remarkably effective in their roles. The wingspan is 45' 6", length 36' 4", weight loaded 9250 lb. The engine was a Bristol Pegasus of 690 or 750 horsepower. This example was contract built by Blackburn Aircraft and delivered in May 1943. It was embarked on the escort carrier HMS Hunter and used on Atlantic convoys. The aircraft was damaged by collision with a loose aircraft in the hangar during heavy weather and although no longer airworthy was retained as an instructional airframe.
