SD8600 : The Gateway to Central Park

taken 2 months ago, near to Cheetham Hill, Manchester, England

The Gateway to Central Park
The Gateway to Central Park

The Gateway leads from Oldham Road under a railway line to Central Park, an urban renewal development project which includes the headquarters for Greater Manchester Police, a regional headquarters for multinational Fujitsu, and a postgraduate research and science park.

The Metrolink tram station was constructed in 2005 but was unused until 2012. See The Beauty of Transport: LinkExternal link for an account which explains the delay.

The tram station features a striking curved copper and glass canopy suspended by a cable-tensioned steel structure designed by architects Aukett Fitzroy Robinson.
