Modern housing on Oak Street
Modern housing on Oak Street
Following the closure of the direct railway line from Southport to Manchester via Blowick in 1965, the opportunity was taken to link Balfour Road (to the south of the line) with Oak Street (to the north). The two streets were not in exact alignment so it was necessary to incorporate two bends. These modern houses have been built on the trackbed of the old railway on the connecting limb between the two streets.
