1942 Willys Jeep at the village fete, Glinton - June 2024
This Willys Jeep from 1942 was on display at the annual Glintonfest village fete in Glinton in June 2024. The fete was scheduled to coincide with the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944.
A total of 359,489 Willys MB jeeps were built between 1941 and 1945 (with a further 277,896 Ford GPW versions manufactured to the same standardised design for the U.S. and Allied forces during this period), ranking it as the first mass-produced four-wheel drive car.
According to the owner's information, this particular example was built in March 1942 and served in France. After the Second World War, it was donated to the French Army, remaining in use until 1960 and then in storage until 1979.
