Severn Valley Railway - class 59 at Bewdley
There was a melee at this end of the platform as enthusiasts young and old jostled for a shot of this rare visitor to the diesel gala. This class was built by General Motors in the US with 15 built between 1985 and 1995. The first 5 were privately owned by Foster-Yeoman to work stone trains out of Merehead Quarry in Somerset. It is a diesel-electric with a Co-Co configuration. The engine is a turbocharged two-stroke V16 diesel of 2,500 kW. The locomotive weighs 126 tonnes and has a maximum speed of 75 mph as this example is class 59/2.
